Guys' I am following you both ~ and from my view I'd like the Retail with higher margins better, however my best opportunity to keep cashflow is with a Grocery store (a smaller sized bundle at a wholesale price). I too am exploring new ways to market and sell bundles. I am learning the best processes and trying them out. I am not going to invest/work this hard to sell "Cheap Wood" ALL the cutting, sawing rounds, moving, splitting, stacking, sorting, packaging etc. IN the end, I am learning to be as productive as I can with the remaining energy in my body after walking 18,000 steps at my job. Love what I do! CBJ

Unlike most UA-camrs doing firewood, Joe's main income source is firewood sales so he has had to learn how to maximise profits, or as bankers say - sweat his assets, if he wants to put beans on the table.

Just spent a couple of hours today sifting through a rubbish pile like yours , picked up 800 L of kindling and 400L of split wood ( tossed into IBC's plastic tub ) So a good $150 NZD of wood which would have been wasted . I had a firewood operator work for 6 months without cleaning up a thing on my property , so in the process of reclaiming the land , there must be 20 -30 tons of this , and another 20 tons at a guess of saw dust . all going into a burning heap once I recover the things worth saving .

Im at a loss Joe! I went to 1-1.25 CF bags this year and stuff them full of nothing but straight very dry beautiful 16" pieces and our kindling bags are .75 CF bags and stuffed full as well as a included fire starter. We're in 4 beer distributors and 1 convenience store (right down the road from a huge camp ground) and I thought for sure after Memorial Day weekend, (first nice weekend we've had since the snow melted) they'd all be calling to refill the shelves and 1 beer distributor sold 2 bags of fire wood and 2 bags of kindling and zero sold at all the other places. Just to get in the door these places are making 38% profit on each bag, our bags are anywhere from 3-5 dollars more than I see advertised locally but the 5 dollar wrapped bundles are about 6 sticks of wood and the bundles that are closer to our price you might get about 8 pieces and all look like crap. Any advise?

Gonna hit up a hardware store that had wood so ugly, I would not take it for free.

Are you still selling smoking chips? If so, how are they selling?

I am. I sell them to two restaurants regularly. I don't really go after the sales for them and just use them as add on sales

Who’s the clown that told him he doesn’t understand his firewood industry? The arrogant audacity to say something like this when he runs probably the most professional firewood business… freakin commenters man.

So someone actually commented that you don't understand the industry??? That's hilarious, seeing as how you've built a highly successful firewood business that is your sole source of income!! Makes me think of another channel that I watch, where the guy stated that selling a partial facecord "never works out" and "Isn't a good idea". I thought to myself, "Gee....Joe seems to be pretty successful at selling small quantities and demanding a premium price for them"!!😂
