Awesome video on firewood wrapping! I learned alot! Looks like the builder of the twister is 55 minutes north of me in Mora MN. I will be buying a wood splitter this week! (Should have been today, tractor supply said they had it in stock, when wife and I showed up to buy it, they had sold it to someone else!) You have an awesome operation for sure, looks like for the most part, you're having alot of fun!👍👍
As someone who has bought these bundles in the past, (when I lived in Cleveland) I wouldn't bother with the handles. The wood bundle chest is usually locked and a store associate has to get them anyway. So, there is little issue in getting the consumer to buy the product. The story boy carries them to the car anyways. Sure, you could say the consumer will have issues from the car to the burning area but it isn't something I ever thought about when I bought them. I was just happy to have some good dry wood for Thanksgiving and Christmas...
Thanks for the input Rofl. I think there is a market hidden in the customers who buy bundles. I think there are a number of potential sales in there somewhere. Just have to be able to get to them. Joe
You know, i am aware that all these pieces of equipment don't come cheap. However, for the people that will spend a bunch of time trying to invent their own bundler instead of just buying one. I think those who can afford one and not buying one are missing the boat. I bought a cheaper manual John's welding bundler based on that wood guys recommendation, and we couldn't be happier with the investment. All that hand tying, and bags just can't touch a bundler, no way, no how
Great machine Great information, firewood in UK is sold in builders bags or smaller bags from fuel stations quality varies dramaticaly, species, moisture content etc, in Northern France i buy excellent firewood by the stere at a good price delivered, firewood in Normandy is copiced beech ash oak seasoned and produced with great pride like you do.

I have a Built Rite firewood prosser they recommend you sell 400 to 500 ricks a season to benefit from it .Also i usually double my money on a load of logs which is great
Thanks for the comment Dewey! Built Rite's analysis reminds me of what one of my restaurant owners said about trying to make a buck in food service. He said it's more about what you buy it for then what you sell it for. He said this is mostly true bc restaurants are very competitive within their markets and don't have much wiggle room on their menu price. They look to raise profits by their cost of goods. I argue that, at least for me, there is more to buying a processor than its ROI. To me, I need one to keep me in the game longer. I'm not getting any younger and I need this machine to do the grunt work for me! lol. Stay cool Dewey. Joe
I've 3d printed some fairly strong parts with a 20-30% wood fiber PLA. It'd probably take 2 hours or so to print a single handle, but if you got everything dialed in you should be able to print 6-8 in one go on a good sized printer like a creality 3d 1x1ft. You can increase infill to get an idea of required strength (solid would be ridiculous and take longer to print). It can be stained and sanded, under a grand investment but can be a lot of messing around calibrating. Downside: lets be real everyone is going to burn them.

Thanks for showing the wrapping machine, my only negative is adding plastic to the world. Is there no natural rapping, biodegradable methods? EG. Rope etc.
Thanks Steve. I appreciate your comments and I think you raise an excellent point. The benefits of this wrap is it stretches and squeezes the wood for tight packing. Im not sure of a biodegradable solution other than bags or twine...both of which significantly changes the process. Joe
I'd rather have dipshits wad up some plastic and throw it out rather than plastic twine. Animals can swallow the twine. How fast does sisal decompose? Is it strong enough?
I tried the bags too. I used onion bags and they did well but the wrapper is more to my liking. My estimates is there is $0.17 stretch wrap in each bundle. But of course the Twister adds to the process for sure!
There are always bags but they are much more expensive. Of course you don't need a machine to bag them but I think the customer can't see the wood as good when they are in bags. Joe
Chuck wouldn’t appreciate the negative comments about bundling speed. I have 1 worker making 65+ and hour and another 20 year old lady making 50+ an hour. Also twisters are made in Mora Minnesota not Wisconsin
Oops... did I say Wisc? Lol. Got that wrong. If a person can make 65+ an hour that is FLYING! Maybe if I had some help, used the speed loaders, and didn't worry much about the looks I could get close but doubtful. Joe

Thank you Matt. My thought was to be in a position to make professional appearing bundles so I can get more retailers. That was the deciding factor in purchasing the Twister. Thanks for watching. Joe.

Great video! Love that “Twister”. I am considering selling bundles as well. Just curious, what do you sell them to the campgrounds and convenience stores for and what do they charge for them? I appreciate you covering all these great topics! Keep up the good work!
It seems retailers shoot for a 40% markup. I look at what neighboring stores sell their's for and calculate in that general area. My stores range from 3.50 to $4. They sell approx $6.99 . Campgrounds, now that I think of it, are about the same $$ and markup. I put more wood in the camp bundles but the wood cost me less. Joe

The trend I am seeing in firewood production is new and more exciting machines. There may be a day where the entire process is integrated into such a process. Could be an exciting day. Joe
Why is everyone selling these bundles so cheap!? Around here, Lowe's, Home Depot, and a chain of convenience stores is selling .06CF bags for 8-9.00! I'm wrapping bundles that are just over 1CF for 10 bucks.
I think you touch upon a consistent reality in our industry as a whole. The shame of it is I am able to buy firewood already made, have it delivered and stacked on my land AND still be able to make a profit selling bulk and certainly in bundles. I really think we can all benefit if we move away from commodity based firewood and start selling value added. Joe
It's a little off isn't it Michael! I guess working with 16" logs makes for the discrepency. At least with .75 cf it comes out correctly at 9"x9"x16" ... I have always been told there are 128 1cf bundles in a cord but I have never gotten near that. Too many logs are excluded bc of twist, knots etc. Joe
Ok thanks! So you probably just let it go at 1.3 cubic feet? That wouldn’t bother me. I plan to do this myself but I’ll make a simple bundling rack till I can afford better machinery. I appreciate you and folks like you sharing your story. Have a good day
Can you have your truck close to your bundler? That way you can load directly into your truck and save you from handling them twice. Another good video.

That is a lot of bundling Chris. Wow! I think if I were to do that many I wouln't want to do it anymore! Joe
Cheap 1/2 inch Manila rope 9 inches long, and a air powered stapler 2 shots per end..
This is made in Mora Minnesota
Hi Mary. You are right! I hope you are well and staying safe. Joe
That is nice
Thanks RG! Joe
how much do you get for A bundle
Depends... $3.50 to $4.50
How much do you get for a bundle at the camp grounds? You said you get 170 bundles from a full cord.
I get around $3.50 to $4. In theory there are 170 .75cf bundles in a cord. For practical purposes I never had that yield from a cord bc I throw out a lot of logs that don't fit nicely in a bundle. Joe
I had a firewood business once. But then cats peed on it. J/k love it
Darn cats! Joe
What do you sell a bundle for?
Hi Ray Ray. My price for bundles varies based upon size labels and the customer. They range from $3.50 to $4.50. I do not sell to the end user otherwise I would sell full retail price for that. Probably $6 for that
@@ohiowoodburner im getting 3.50 and 4.00 a bundle. witch is great. considering my clients like .5 cubic ft. I'm doing a average of 400 bundles a week on top of my mowing contracts. God is good
Good job I subscribed
Thanks Will. I am glad to have met you. Joe
I do 5k bundels a week i cant git ahold of twister i need 2 PURCHASE 4 machine, s .can you help me contact THEM ty.
Hi Kathy. I have found getting a hold of them is difficult. His VM is full and you can't leave a message. I just kept calling and calling until they answered. 5000 a week? Wow! That is awesome. Where are you from? Joe
Im from nw Arkansas (Rogers) THEY called BACK left a message so i called them back lol and not hurd NOTHING BACK yet.
just curious, but how far do you ship the bundles to convenience stores for example?
I serve the entire Mahoning Valley which is a three county geographical area in NE Ohio. Prob the max distance is 30 miles one way. Joe
How about putting in a handle of some sort, that would be a little extra work though
I had thought of that but determined it is not worth the expense and extra step in production. So far I have not had a single request for a handle. Joe
I prefer net bags. Can't understand why you want keep handling the wood
I enjoy what I do and I'm able to make a living doing it.
@@ohiowoodburner I enjoy getting paid the year after I've done the work. Made a net bag log loader which will help speed up my work. It's great fun until a split log smashes my shin. I like the convenience of the net bags. You've got a lot more wood than me.
Would it be possible to combine the bundle machine with the processor so you get a round bundle the same as the log?
Hi Keith. I like the way you think! I suspose anything is possible but I am currently looking at my 1990' era VCR blinking 12:00 ! lol. The trend I am seeing in firewood production is new and more exciting machines. There may be a day where the entire process is integrated into such a process. Could be an exciting day. Joe
@@ohiowoodburner Perhaps use net with a handle or a string bag so it will season in the bag. Just thinking out loud here.
Would be fabulous if people had common sense and didn’t toss the wrapping into the fire . I like that machine to keep some wood dry for the cabin
twister is made in mora minnesota not Wisconsin
Yup. I misspoke Dean. Thanks for the comment.
Joe
I’m not sure if I missed something but I don’t see how 12” x 12” x 16”= a cubic ft.
Hi John. That is possible. My current process is I keep the bundles inside the garage until they are delivered. That is to avoid rain. I am able to back the truck right up to the pallets when I want to. Joe
@@ohiowoodburner I thought that I heard you say that you were delivering those bundles that afternoon. Just a thought.
Doesn't look like you'd get more wood in the 12 inch bundle..
I don't like all the plastic being used. We should use something biodegradable like twine.
Probably takes too long.
Dont tell all the secrets ha ha
Givers give Jody. LOL. It's just how I live my life. Joe
Sorry. I should have watched the whole video before I opened my mouth. 🙄
"I can do 40-45 bundles per hour"
"Ok everyone that's 30 bundle" as he's on one knee dying!!!
Ok bud pretty sure some of those were already there to top it off need do start carrying them bundles farther or something stacking split wood should be effortless
sorry but I had too
You're killing me Daniel. You made me go back and look at this video to make sure I was accurate. It was hot as heck this day! I can do 40 ish in an hour! Not that I want to right now...maybe in the fall when the temps cool off. thanks for watching. I have high self esteem so no feathers ruffled. lol. Joe
@@ohiowoodburner I'm just busting balls bet telling people what you were doing while working didn't make it easy on you thanks for the lesson had no idea about shrink wrapping fire wood
Please no plastic
