    When you are processing wood, the material that falls out of the screening system can be turned into a usable product instead of a waste stream, it is about perfect material for biochar, specifically in a cone kiln or flame cap kiln, check it out.

      Much of that is operator error. I can adjust the bar pressure but I seem to forget to do it most of the time I vid. In this case I was running a fresh chain and it was cutting aggressive with too much pressure. Had I dialed it back it would have been fine. Happy New Year Gary!

    Happy new year. Great video now comes the job of stacking it’s the bottle neck for all producers who stack. If you could run the machine a full 8 hours you would need 8 trailers or 4 helpers feeding you and stacking or a week to stack alone. But by producing it fast allows time to do other things in life that come up. I use hay wagons and my dump trailer to load up so I can stack later. I won’t tell you how many wagons I have but there all full. Peace

    Joe, Japa needs a "log roller" button on their processors. It would save you from opening the hood, to shift the round to avoid splitting thru a knot! 60° weather is much better than 10°!
    Happy new year.
    PS: I heard Andrew Easton on a live stream, tell a story of a guy who installed "perfect split" on his Eastonmade wood processor. Why not just get a Japa, and save $100k, and get a 405?
    The big 60C's, and 48C's, are so fast, and expensive to run, it just slows them down to install Perfect Split. Its a waste of money. There is no advantage to pay that much extra just to install Perfect Split?
    Because of the JAPA perfect split patent, my idea for Eastonmade, is to install an "After Split" feature where it does automatic "resplits" on over sized split rounds coming out of the initial split!
    Then, "they would have their cake and eat it too"! This would fix the biggest disadvantage on their big processors: re-spits! The big diesel engines just "gargle" the diesel fuel, they should at least address this issue, and give the customer more value for their $150k investment and operating expense!
    The "After Split" feature would work as follows: the split chunks would be "pushed thru" an extra chamber, where "over sized chunks" would be detected, and extra wedges would be activated to further split the chunk. The speed of the processor would not be slowed down.

    • @ohiowoodburner
      @ohiowoodburner  Рік тому +2

      That sounds like an interesting thought process Gary. I would think the Eastonmades are not competitors for the Japa...just a different business model IMO. If the owner installed a box on one you would think they may have purchased a machine not ideal for their operation?

    • @ohiowoodburner
      @ohiowoodburner  Рік тому

      So I have a theory about this. I think one of the appeals of my vids...the way the camera follows me...gives the impression to the viewer that they are right next to me. Having to lift my voice over the drone of production plays along with that feel. If I were to use a mic and speak into it with conversational voice that would kill that perception. Just a theory...or I could be too cheap to buy one. LOL

    Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. A New Year, and undoubtedly new challenges. In every production process, as volumes crank up bottlenecks can develop and require resolution. My perception is that now your bottleneck is in the stacking process and I'll be interested to learn in due course how your workflow evolves to tackle this issue. I have my own thoughts on the problem but it's too easy for us fireside experts to pontificate, which I'm sure can be an irritation to you.

    • @ohiowoodburner
      @ohiowoodburner  Рік тому

      ha ha. You can never be an irratation to me BR. I agree with you but still it seems the best solution is paying a HS kid $20 a cord. I like the Posh Packfix but it seems there would be some required processes developed that I may not be able to pull off just now. Only time will tell.

    • @jakebredthauer5100
      @jakebredthauer5100 Рік тому

      Another thing is his dependency on those temporary log mats. I am pretty sure that with good drainage he could have a network of cheap, reliable dirt roads.
      It would require the use of a dirt machine to remodel the surface. With his tractor he could do the necessary repairs and maintenance. Short periods of mud and dust are likely with dirt roads. I believe good maintenance would be a substitute for the use of gravel.
      He could look around in his area for examples of how dirt roads perform. They perform better with use because of compaction. He could start with small areas to get experience and to test the feasibility.
      A lot depends on the soil texture which is composed of various combinations of sand, silt, and clay. Adding sand to critical areas would, most likely, help. Using sand would depend on the cost of the sand. Back-hauling sand with his trailer would cut the cost considerably.

    • @rodneysweetnam8653
      @rodneysweetnam8653 Рік тому

      Hi Jake - Big Rodders again. In theory I don't disagree but the Bold Joe is a sole operator and, unlike the vast majority of Log Hounds on UA-cam, relies on firewood production and sales for his only income stream, which focuses the mind greatly and influences how he has to expend his energies.

    Beautiful weather up here in New England. Happy new year Bud. I just bought my first load of logs. Hopefully selling some bundles I live on a very busy road. Plus I burn of course

    i wonder if the machine would benefit from a higher hp motor? i do understand the reason to stay at the 25hp mark for the diesels.

    Happy New Year Joe! Hope 2023 brings you continued success. Have you considered putting your Ultratech trailer under the roller screener? When it's full just pull it over to the wood boiler, shovel the scraps in, and they're gone!

    The splits look awesome, do you notice more waste ?. From watching the video, it seems like a lot of lose wood laying around.

    • @ohiowoodburner
      @ohiowoodburner  Рік тому

      Keep in mind the temps you see are deceptive in time. Must of the scrap is still frozen to the ground. Also I have been cranking out wood as fast as I can given I ended deliveries thru the holidays and I have a break in the weather. I will clean up when I come up for air!

      @foxlake6750 Рік тому

      The perfect split is a box wedge built into the processor, they tend to produce more scrap vs a 4/6 way wedge. A vertical splitter produces the least amount of scrap. It’s a balance between speed, quality and scrap rate, with what your customer wants. Joe is really getting the most out of the 405 in this clip, due to the bigger logs, which are mostly straight.

    • @foxlake6750
      @foxlake6750 Рік тому

      Joe, when there is a bitty piece left on the second last stroke, why not cut another piece and split…..save a stroke ?

    At 6:25 your 4 bolts that are on the ram that’s being pushed into the splitter will wear out and won’t be able to be taken off easily.
