LYRICS:
Born of cold and winter air
And mountain rain combining
This icy force both foul and fair
Has a frozen heart worth mining
So cut through the heart, cold and clear
Strike for love and strike for fear
See the beauty, sharp and sheer
Split the ice apart
And break the frozen heart
Hyup! Ho! Watch your step! Let it go!
Hyup! Ho! Watch your step! Let it go!
Beautiful!
Powerful!
Dangerous!
Cold!
Ice has a has a magic, can't be controlled
Stronger than one, stronger than ten
Stronger than a hundred men! Hyup!
Born of cold and winter air
And mountain rain combining
This icy force both foul and fair
Has a frozen heart worth mining
Cut through the heart, cold and clear
Strike for love and strike for fear
There's beauty and there's danger here
Split the ice apart
Beware the frozen heart.
Shoot me but this is my favorite song of the movie.
*bang*
Samuel Wallace i think so too
Happy to help. Please select your Nerf gun of choice and I'll be there as soon as possible to pummel you with foam darts. Right after I listed to this nifty song.
Mine too. Fantastic intro.
Samuel Wallace Boy, this song makes me love winter more than I already do.
"Break the frozen heart" this is the heaviest foreshadowing Disney has ever done.
I dunno… that whole turbo thing in wreck it ralph was pretty heavy
Also probably "beware the frozen heart"
not really, that was a backstory in the middle of the movie. This is an entire song in the beginning of the movie that's basically about the entire plot.
Rikusgirl001 No one really pays any attention to the song in the beginning though. To be honest, almost everyone thinks it is only about the ice they're breaking.
Exactly, that's what makes it so brilliant. One of the lines is even "let it go". Good foreshadowing should only be seen in retrospect, in my opinion.
"How to foreshadow your entire movie in two minutes."
More than foreshadowing the movie, it describes cold-hearted people like HANS. It supposed you'll never realize it untill the scene when Anna says "The only frozen heart around here is yours" to Hans character.
Joselyn Hernández-Maldonado
"And not let anyone realize."
Marry, this is miching mallecho.
Shakespeare-ian
"Born of cold and winter air mountain rain combining..."
"Where the northwind, meets the sea..."
I swear the lyrics to these two songs are borderline genius
I had just thought of that and came to this video to see if anyone had the same idea. What I find clever is that in frozen 2 Elsa forges a strong connection with the wind and water spirits, possibly foreshadowed by those lines
?
This is the most underrated song in the whole movie! I freaking love it!
I agree with both your statement and your name :)
It makes me sad that we didn't get another song like this one.
Super Fun Network Archive I just understood you thank you I love this we all see “something “ that live , love, & Wisdom
I agree! I love the folksy music of it, I hope the sequel will have more like it.
It a sea shanty for ice
Wow, I can't believe I just realized this song was a summary of the whole movie.
Omg, you're right. Mind blown!
nice catch there
This song is the underlying theme for the movie. It's known as foreshadowing
Dinoman5550 It's not as much foreshadowing as it is a summery though.
Yup! And I love it! They basically end up playing the part of the narrators, giving us an introduction to what the story is about before it begins, even if their song doesn't make all that much sense in context. Sure, the movie could have started with the princesses but i think this song just gives the movie that teeny extra layer to contribute towards pushing is to be as good as it is.
No one ever remembers this song when they sing Frozen songs :(
Even though it's so good.
i do, im making a cappela of it :3 (dont watch it. its shit)
I love it gave me chills xD
I do! I want to do a Vocaloid version with Big Al!
It even got lost in the Broadway version as it opens with Vuelie and not this song. Vuelie is the beginning song played during the open of Frozen II.
This is the manliest Disney song since "I'll Make A Man Out Of You"
That song wasn't manly, it was sung by Donny Osmond
Yeah, but the lyrics were manly.
*****
Jackie Chan did the Mandarin and Cantonese versions though, so there's that.
That's in my recommendations right now 😂
@@ajfreeman5885 Jackie Chan would like a word with you..
What I love is how this song is actually sort of foreshadowing the plot.
"Beware the frozen heart" is the final line of the song.
Anna's heart gets frozen, which is clearly stated to be a dangerous occurrence.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who noticed this.
Also, that line could refer to someone else if you know who I mean.
"The only frozen heart around here, is yours!"
KitKat It could also be referring to Elsa in the line:
"Split the ice apart"
the song even plays when elsa strikes anna.
@@Moonlitwatersofaqua yeessss someone else noticed that
And “watch your step, let it go.” Might be referring to Elsa singing let it go while building that bridge.
This song is just so underrated.
If anything this song has that northern region atmosphere that all the others in this OST just lack.
Best song in the movie...
Yeah, incredibly underrated.
there's so much foreshadowing in this song & it's almost like a prologue & a short story/introduction to the entire movie. it doesn't just introduce sven. there's a reason they show men randomly cutting ice. just listen to the lyrics. it's like a short story for the entire movie. it reminds me of the beginning of romeo & juliet, telling us basically the entire story in a few sentences. this is brilliant on disney's part. i don't think i've ever seen anything like this in disney movies since like cinderella. i didn't understand this song until watching frozen a couple times & realizing they tell you exactly what's going to happen in the next 100 minutes. it's like these guys were breaking the fourth wall telling us all of this.
Well, what you describe has a name, which is overture. What lyrics establish is called pathos ;)
Santiago S Actually, what you're thinking of is leitmotif. Overture is just the introduction to an opera. Pathos just means emotion in Greek, so you're technically right, but it's not that meaningful compared to just saying emotion.
Hexane those are some of the nerdiest replies i've ever seen.
crystal jackson that's true for a lot of Disney movies, just look at hunchback of notre dames intro song when Clopin says " who is the monster and who is the man"
Why is this song so underrated? I MEAN IT WAS THE OPENING!
I gotta say for not being much of a fan of Frozen, this was a great opening scene and score.
As much as I like let it go, this has to be my favorite song in the whole movie.
I remember being one of the few children chosen by disney to see the premiere and i've just been in love with the movie, but the first saw you see always scared me as a kid 😂
I'm a big fan of Heavy Metal and Vikings. I took my little sister to see this movie the other day and I thought this movie was gonna suck, but this scene really impressed me. I really liked the Scandinavian influence in the whole movie and there were a lot of funny parts too but this was no doubt the best part and song.
200 likes an no comment? Lemme fix that, i personally also really like that too and i do kind of think this movie isn't the best, but yeah, great song
@@r.i.pnoobanimations4567dude, you replied to a 9 year old comment.
@@Purpleguy626 true 💀
When I was 12 and 13, I was crazy obsessed with Frozen. Even watched it to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of its release
I adore these kind of songs.
tried "misty mountain" from the hobbit?
TheDragongladiator
oh, yes i did. but thanks anyway. great things.
TheDragongladiator Exactly what i was thinking hearing this song in the movies. Then i missed watching the Hobbit xD.
Maybe you'll like We All Lift Together from Warframe. The genre is called 'work shanties'.
@@CelestialDraconis do you know any other good ones in that genre, i've listened to both before but haven't found anything else with the similar industrial vibe to them
Never understood why people don't like this song! It may be stylistically different from the other songs in the soundtrack but it does a great job of foreshadowing elements of the movie and transitions very well into the backstory. Not to mention, the song itself is a banger!
Irony Elsa was born in the summer.
How do you know?
MissSelmaSongs Cuz her coronation was on or near her birthday, and the coronation day was in the summer
Thank you.
ThisJess613 wooowww knowledge! fancy
ThisJess613
Fair enough :)
This is my favorite song in the movie. It's real underrated.
i agree my brother loves this song and i do to
Second! They play the Scandinavian style one first with the title
I wish these men had met Elsa. I bet they would have been the first people to accept her for who she was, and could have even helped her out with her powers... maybe.
Edit: Thanks for the discourse, I was 14 when I made this comment. How's 2021 going for all of you?
I thought Elsa and Kristoff would end up together, when Anna is like "don't come in" and Kristoff literally lives by ice(sells it for a living)... Disappointing as fuck in my opinion.
CrimsonAnihilator Well, I don't see a ring on Anna yet.. ;3
Yasha TDP Nah, that's too far for Disney =P
Jack Frost for Elsa? (Pixar and DreamWorks engaged :O)
Yasha TDP Orrr, they might have tried to mine her heart... That'd have been bad.
I always preferred this song over "Let it Go".
+AlbinoTanuki Its always been my favorite song in the movie.
Beautiful - Anna
Powerful - Elsa
Dangerous - Hans
Cold - Kristoff
This song was foreshadowing the entire movie
Also
"Ice as a magic can't be controlled" -Elsa's struggle to control her powers
"Beware the frozen heart"
-Anna's heart being frozen
@@PlutozDreamz Or also Hans being the frozen hearted individual.
That was what I realised about this song. It's incredibly crafted.
You forgot Russia version - Gulag workers song.
@@njannah97 The only one not Frozen around here is
Oh wait, she fell into a river, Anna's frozen too.
Oh yeah, she also turned to ice. So everyone is cold, in their own way.
manliest disney song since "ill make a man out of you"
I take when they first sing it and not the second time, when they're in drag XD
SEELE ONE No it's totally when they were in drag. XD Manliest thing EVER! XD
Cora Shumake Quite correct, If a man is comfortable enough in his manliness to dress in drag for the greater good and pull it off without looking hilarious that is quite a manlyn thing indeed.
Richard Spere
I'm sorry, but they're fake boobs where fruits... That was frikin' hilarious...
yes it was, but the hilarious part was that it was fruits, not how they looked that was just ugly nothing more
I can imagine the people in Solitude from Skyrim cutting the ice while singing this song O_O
I agree. Also, I love your pony-fied "Dinkleburg" meme avatar :3
Omg same
I’m super late but you’re super right
I keep imagining Vordt from Dark Souls 3.
"Cut through the mind, cold and clear
Strike for pain and strike for fear
There's horror and there's danger here
Kiss your body goodbye
Beware the Pontiff's Eye"
Or Winterhold
It would be hilarious if all this foreshadowing stuff was just a coincidence.
... I did not think of that... rofl
MCdeltaT Don't you agree?
Ross Pit: shark hunter
It's a movie after all.
From the point above the 4th wall to see it,
that would be stupid for the crew if that's just coincidental and not intentional.
"Wow, guys. Just heard your song. You've captured Queen Elsa's story perfectly!"
"Who the heck is Elsa?"
it's impossible for it to be a coincidence. just sayin'
Fuck Let it go and For the first time in forever, THIS is the best song from the movie.
shut up! every song owns a special spell! and this song sucks! and why u r using profanity?
>every song is special
>this song sucks
um
All the songs are actually spells made by witches
MultiYoshiman hahahahahahahahahahaha
Ben Dover i mean that every song owns a special spell...that means that every song has something special like nice lyrics nice performing etc...
I love this song, it foreshadows nearly the whole movie's plot, including let it go. Wonder why it's the least popular song out of the whole soundtrack :-(
To me, it mostly foreshadows Elsa...
Elizabeth, that's the whole point of the song :) It represents all the big moments in the movie, along with the plot. It further represents prince Hans, and is a parallel to Anna's quote near the end "there only frozen heart around here is yours."
am i the only one who finds Elsa relatable? even "the could never bothered me anyway" is relateable
***** I agree! My friends wanted to see Frozen too but I kept insisting it was a children's movie. I decided to see it anyway in January (by movie hopping of course, because I was too stubborn) & was so blown away that I decided to buy the bluray. :-)
the song isn't so much about the entire plot, it's more about the relation between anna, elsa, kristoff and hans and how those relationships develop throughout the film
This song needs to be longer
i agree
Yep I agree with you
So needed
Exactly
★ Froggie Animation ★ Just for the soundtrack though, not the film version
We are cutting ice. Cause we are cutting iiiiiiiiiiiice.
Best honest trailer ever
Do you want some exposition? Some information through a sooooooong?
More like:"We are cutting iiice...and in the meantiiime...we're spoiling the entire plot of the fiiiilm..."
I never realized it but this song totally foreshadows the movie in the beginning haha
it really does! :D
i noticed a lot of things that foreshadows the future in the movie the second time i watched it. LOL
framedpirateer yeah that always happens when I re watch films. I start paying attention to everything going on in the background haha
Actually after the movie I was all "Wait did the first song spoil everything? IS THE FIRST SONG A SPOILER!?"
I always thought they were singing about Elsa
To be honest, this is my favorite song out of all the others in the movie. It's just so catchy and exciting :3
I feel you.
It is, its got my attention and now i keep hearing it again and again lol
Yes
"Beautiful
Powerful
Dangerous
Cold"
Are they talking about ice, Elsa or Hans?
theyre talking about the ice and or elsa
MAYA REVERA its foreshadowing what is going to happen in the movie. very clever and very well done.
lol
There talking about Elsa and Anna. Powerful and Cold is Anna and Powerful and Dangerous is Elsa
***** and they are both beautiful
unpopular opinion: this is the best frozen song
I never thought this was possible, but they managed to make accordions sound manly.
dang I didn't even notice that!! haha
to be fair accordions have always been manly, simply unnoticed
That's disney for you:)
Animalimeshiwakawa Japan I agree! ;)
i love the fact that this is basically the biggest foreshadowing ever put in a song like ever
I didn't even realize it until I read the lyrics how much it foreshadows
I love this now, but in the theater, I was like "What is with this manly chanting type song? Where is my Disney Princess movie about love?" And then by the end, "Ohhhh."
Pocahontas began with a song like this too.
Roq Alucard Yeah, and it was awesome! XD I was thrilled when Frozen started with this.
skulblaka92 ohhhh same here same here :DDDDD i loooove this kind of songs! (misty mountains
Pocahontas (The Virginia Company) and The Little Mermaid (Mysterious Fathoms Below) both started with more of a manly chat type song.
It's like a shanty c: I mean, it could be but it sounds like one.
Watch your step! Let it go!
Epic foreshadowing everyone missed
Uh, no, I heard it on my first watch of the movie
the whole song is foreshadowing if you think about it, it pretty much tells you the whole story. ''Born of Cold'' ''split the ice apart and break the frozen heart'' ''beautiful, powerful, dangerous, cold, Ice has a magic can't be controlled, stronger than 1, stronger than 10, stronger than 100 men'' I could go on.
Morons who think Grade 9 English makes them analysts.
The first time I watched this movie I thought they were just talking about gathering ice, but when I actually listened to the lyrics, it foreshadows the entire plot!
yep
That's the brilliant beauty of it. It is talking about the natural elements itself while intricately and subtly crafted to represent various characters and plots in the movie. Brilliant.
I want this to be longer. Even a lumberjack would tip his hat to this.
i know
Let's be honest here, what were the men singing this if not ice lumberjacks?
UnholyTrooper That's where I was unsure as they were not lumberjacks, but more Icejacks. Doesn't quite sound the same.
Roulden It really doesn't. I couldn't think of a name that sounded good so I just went with ice lumberjack. Icejack sounds like an inuit masturbation technique.
UnholyTrooper Frostjacks?
This song is brilliant. It foreshadowed the entire film yet no one realized this until they watched the whole film.
Unpopular opinion: this is a better song than Let it go.
Most underrated song in the movie
After listening to this opening song again I realized that the song actually summarizes and foretells the Frozen plot. "Born of cold and winter air" meaning Elsa got her powers because she was born in winter. The song also goes "strike for love and strike for fear" connecting to the fact that emotions play a big role in how the powers react and behave. And of course I think everybody who has seen the movie knows what "Beware the frozen heart" relates to.
THE ENGLISH VERSION IS SO COOL I CAN'T
I love that this song is the first thing you hear in the movie. Its such an awesome song! Sort of reminds me of the Work Song from Les Miserables.
I had the same thing!
Yes I felt this too! Or like At the End of the Day song.
Unironically my favourite.
There's an insane amount of foreshadowing in this. Like, this line is the most perfect thing:
"Let it go! Beautiful, powerful, dangerous, cold! Ice has a magic, can't be controlled! Stronger than one, stronger than ten, stronger than one hundred men!" Plus the entire "Beware a frozen heart."
I mean, think about the movie it's opening. Disney, you're amazing...
Are they referring to elsa?
edzyl blane They are referring that she was born with a frozen heart, so she has magical powers that can't be controlled and very powerful, and she may seem beautiful, but dangerous
If this movie was taking itself seriously, it would be so much better! This song is pretty badass describing the power of ice for such a kiddy movie.
same here
+Lukas Cvancara Because psychotic killer boyfriends are too kid-friendly.
The story started out as being about Elsa being the villain. It wasn't until they wrote Let it Go that they decided to rewrite the entire f**king movie.
I wonder if Gray fullbuster listens to this
More than foreshadowing the movie, it describes cold-hearted people like HANS. It supposed you'll never realize it untill the scene when Anna says "The only frozen heart around here is yours" to Hans character.
I get goosebumps every single time they sing “beware the frozen heart”.
This song is full of foreshadowing.

You can take just any song and find any number of things to fit into it perfectly. Or Disney really is a double agent from cold war.
Airplane Maniac Well, obviously.
Morbed True, I can see that, especially in the "Beware the Frozen Heart".
I never realized how much foreshadowing there was in this song.
Best minute and a half of the whole movie
Most of people forgot about this song immediatly :I
one of my fave songs in the movie~
Angela Taruc
WHY DO PEOPLE LIKE THIS SONG? I hate it. Of all the songs in the movie, I think this one sucks the most. It's sung by too many people first of all, it isn't catchy, and the first time you watch the movie, you have no idea what they're saying and it goes by too fast.
Brett Merrow THIS SONG IS AWESOME. ITS WAY BETTER THEN LET IT GO, NOOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brett Merrow
Sung by too many people? I didn't think anyone actually paid attention to this one...
I do have to disagree about it not being catchy. The ice picks keep an excellent time and the tune is that sort of jaunty, rowdy, drunken men dancing tune.
*****
I meant in the movie it's sung by too many people. I guess I'm just not one for accapella :P I see what you mean though; it gives one a feeling of being manly, powerful...like you're in a tavern drinking ale and singing along to drinking songs with other men.
This theme fits the tsaritsa from snezhnaya well
i would so love to see an edit of snezhnaya when it comes out in a year or two
I was just jamming out to this song in the theater and then I looked around to see if anyone was grooving with me, but no... Some people in the freaking audience needed their frozen hearts cut out -_-
Maybe in the sing-along release starting January 31st, they'll be more cooperative. :)
lol
Maybe they'd never seen it/heard the songs before and just wanted to take in the moment? Wait.. were YOU the one singing For The First Time in Forever behind me?!?! I PAID £9 FOR THAT TICKET I COULDN'T EVEN HEAR THE FILM.
But seriously, they probably hadn't heard the music before.
ROSE RED, your's is the best
THEY ARE BRINGING FROZEN TO THEATERS IN A SING ALONG VERSION
JANUARY 31!!!!!
Imagin8io I didn't here the music either, but when it came on I was like "Man! This is sweet" (of course I didn't say it out loud we're in a bloody theater), but everyone looked so bored and I take offense to that.
Guys, It's Disney, it's always foreshadowing :p
Ain't that the truth? :)
You can't really hear the lyrics in the movie theater, but when you listen to this, it's pretty much a summary of the movie xD
Ye theres always that one kid that cries...
Born of cold and winter air
and mountain rain combining.
This icy force both foul and fair

So cut through the heart, cold and clear.

hi pennywise my name is isabella your a good actor when can i marry a clown like you
Because UA-cam won't let me use the miniplayer for music, this helps me read along on mobile. Thank you person from 6 years ago
Bro thank you!
I have this song stuck in my head right now 😭😭
i wanna rewatch frozen now 😭
This song brought back pleasant memories of the opening of Brother Bear.
well they are from the same studios:)
What is it about work sounding songs is so satisfying like this, underground by tom Waits, and many more
I’m just gonna say, I was probably 6 when they made frozen and I liked it so much I saw it in theaters twice and NOW they make a frozen 2 when I’m in 8th
This was my fav song when I was a little kid but almost a teenager I’m absolutely obsessed with this song
"watch your step! let it go!" --> did they just foreshadowing 'let it go'?? 0___0
"beautiful, powerful" --> Elsa
"dangerous, cold" --> Hans, you can see in the movie they split this dialogue in different scene. So much foreshadowing here!!
God, the songwriters are genius!
Devo Fauzan Rahman no they're talking about ice
Devo Fauzan Rahman Not to mention "Beware the frozen heart"
Devo Fauzan Rahman I agree!
Little Regg ever heard of double meaning??
Plus "frozen heart" and "ice has a magic" (or whatever the line is) and "love and fear" (love thaws a frozen heart)
Anyone feel that this song is foreshadowing what's going to happen in the movie, or is it just me?
That is pretty much the same in every Disney movie. But this one is really...just....
This song explain everything that going to happen in the movie. I agree with you.
Frozen heart is Hans.
No. Aunna gets Frozen Heart at the end (when Elsa zaps her int he heart with ice).
Beware the frozen heart. I think it like Hans because he want to kill Anna and Elza to be a king of Alendel. Anna has frozenheart from Elza magic too haha.
... You think?
How the hell is this so underrated? it's the first song of the movie for god sakes!
When you finished to watch the movie, you already forgot there was something good in it.
They better make this longer when Frozen hits Broadway.
Oh jah, EPIC FORESHADOWING ALL UP IN HERE!
It took me 3 times seeing the movie in the teaters, before I made the connections XP
If you listen at the end of the For the First Time In Forever Reprise (when Anna gets frozen again), they use this theme again.
Margaret Dushko I know, I was thinking the same thing! X)
"Watch your step! Let it go!"
Foreshadowing the song sang by Elsa. Plus more but that would be spoiling the movie.
This whole song is more or less a foreshadowing of Elsa, her abilities, and what she ends up doing with them.
Petman5312 My personal theory is that the ice harvesters as a group have had a legend about a foretold ice queen that would come to power one day. This song is how they passed the legend down and eventually they forgot it was a prophecy but they still sing it as a matter of tradition.
Aaron Radney I believe Frozen's original storyline involved a prophecy. It's in the outtake songs, like Spring Pageant
I noticed that actually and felt super smug for a minute.
Aaron Radney true! I just wish they had discussed Elsa's powers more. Like where did she get magic powers and nobody in her family has any idea where they came from but this song seems to suggest something.. its just never made clear. Like at the end they should have tied it back to this, like they knew all along and Kristoff always had something to do with it
Bruh when I was watching this movie, I thought to myself "why are these ice dudes going so hard right now?!?! 🥶" THIS SONG IS FIRE
this is the most criminally underrated disney song, imo
without a doubt the best song in the entire movie. what made is even more amazing was the chant that was preformed at the begining of the movie. The scene also reminds me of the "Song of the Roustabouts" song from Dumbo (My fav disney movie of all) cause the way these grown men were doing all this impressive work and then having the little guy try to replicate them but not doing it exactly right. thats why it is my fav
ugh every song in this movie is so awesome. Frozen Heart is great!
"Let it go" this, and "love is an open" door that, y'all are sleeping on this song.
Fact: This song IS ABOUT ELSA AND ANNA! When it says: "There's beauty and there's danger here" It's about Elsa because when the troll talks to her he says: "Your powers have beauty but also great danger!" When it says: "Beware the frozen heart" It's about Anna because her heart gets frozen by Elsa!
never notived that! great point!
***** Technically, Elsa's heart was frozen, too. I always saw that as a double meaning- a literally frozen heart, and one that had been frozen through years of isolation and fear.
I love this movie, because, all the songs need each other to make the history, if you listen to "For the first time in forever" reprise, you can listen this song. (Sorry for english)
They also song ¨Let it go¨ in this song. Neat little detail for the people who watches it for the second time.
WolfieXp and the love and fear and they make it clear that a frozen heart is bad
This song gives me chills it’s so good (and nostalgic too)
“Strike for love and strike for fear”
The first time Elsa hit Anna with her powers was while she was trying to save her from falling and the second time was when she was scared of hurting everyone and not being able to control her powers
Girl: Have you seen Frozen yet?
Me: Yeah, it was a great movie!
Girl: What was your favourite song? Mine was Let It Go!
Me: Well, I really loved Frozen Heart...
Girl: Ahahaha! You haven't seen it, weirdo! There's no song called Frozen Heart in Frozen! Hahahaha!
Me: *le sigh*
Find the vid and show her easy
I like both of them but Let It Go was really well done, both vocally and the animation. But i love this song, particularly the begin stanza, something about the first sentence and the male voices sounds fanominal!
Call her on only hearing about it online.
Bet you a dollar. XD
was this an actual conversation?
cus if it was then maybe that person should see the movie one more time
this is my favorite song in the whole movie
the song that explains the lore of the movie at the beginning
ikr
this is worse than a fucking anime op.
Milkshake Mastery XD
Kitteh DaKratragonus I always thought it was forshadowing of elsa's birth
Director Jennifer Lee described the song as a tribute to Dumbo's "Roustabouts" song.
During the moment when Anna is struck in the heart by Elsa (at the very end of the song "For the First Time in Forever (Reprise)"), an oboe is playing the melody for "Frozen Heart" in the background; specifically matching the lyrics "Cut through the heart, cold and clear! Strike for love and strike for fear! There's beauty and there's danger here. Beware the frozen heart..."The song is clearly a reference to Elsa and her powers.
On another level, it may also allude to Prince Hans in conjunction with Anna's remark at the end of the film, "The only frozen heart around here is yours."
The lyrics "Beware the frozen heart!" can be interpreted as a warning of Hans' true nature.
The line "And break the frozen heart" is foreshadowing the event where Anna gets fully frozen, but frees herself by choosing to save Elsa from Hans, rather than saving herself by kissing Kristoff.
The line "So cut through the heart, cold and clear. Strike for love, and strike for fear" also foreshadows that only true love can break/thaw a frozen heart.
The opening song establishes the various themes of the film.
For example, the struggle between love and fear, the symbolic nature of ice representing beauty and danger, Elsa's internal battle betweening hiding and freedom.
"Watch your step, let it go" have a reference with the scene when Elsa runs away.
The closing lyric to this song "Beware the frozen heart..." foreshadows the fatal ice in Anna's heart, put there by Elsa accidentally.
Ironically, Anna is the one character without a symbolic frozen heart; she never hides her true feelings, she is the most emotionally open.
Kristoff, Elsa, and Hans can all be described as having cold or frozen hearts for concealing their true selves, feelings, or intentions under a tough, refined, or charming exterior, (Kristoff, Elsa, Hans respectively).
However, Hans' true self happens to be more sinister than Kristoff and Elsa's true selves as their "frozen hearts" facades was born from lack of contact with the general public, especially Elsa, who does this to make sure that no one got hurt by her powers, while Hans' appears warm-hearted at first, but this was a façade to keep the public unaware of his cold-hearted true self in order to gain their trust and become king of Arendelle.
The idea of a "frozen heart" is a recurring motif.
Also, the lyrics "This icy force both foul and fair," may be a hint of Grand Pabbie telling Elsa that although her powers are beautiful, they are also dangerous, indicating that Elsa's magic is both beautiful and dangerous.
This is my childhood
Favorite song from Frozen.^^ Made me think of Fathoms below from Little Mermaid.
+chriseqisaeqmoi that rousabout song the worker sing when they're putting up the circus tent?
+chriseqisaeqmoi glad to help ^^
I completely agree. The music at the beginning of the film got me really excited because it had Nordic influences and then the rest of the music was mostly pop or something modern. I did like "Let it Go" but it doesn't make up for the fact that the rest of this soundtrack was really not cohesive.
I need to see this movie!
it's so good. it WILL make anyone cry
Nick Brestle Last time I saw it I got choked up just because I was seeing it again and I was so happy then by the end of Snowman I was totally crying
Oh its so sad. Everytime I see it I cant stop crying.
***** SPOLIERS!!!!!!! DONT LOOK AT THIS COMMENT IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE!!!!!!!!!
I already knew that anna got frozen, the second time they sang For The First Time In Forever.
I like all songs in the movie, but I think this one is the best one because
- it's a folk song that the men would sing to help their work feels less tiring
- has it's rhythm in the moviment of the characters,
- has lyrics that foreshadows the whole fucking plot of the movie, which is literally the coolest thing ever
- Is cool
and, no offense, Let It Go is one of my favorite songs in the movie, but I think this one fits the whole idea so much better.
i really didnt think so many people liked this song!! i love it
They don't.
This is probably my second favorite song in the movie. It literally got me excited to watch the film.
I just came back from the movie and... wow. It really felt like good, old Disney movies. And this song just blew my mind.
I love how other people said it reminds me of snow white. Love it!
BRO THIS IS SO NOSTALGIC 😭✋
Also am I the only one who got chills while reading the lyrics while listening or just me?
I'm loving Disney's sort of new direction, if you understand. Brave, Tangled and this movie has moved away from that predictable fairy-tale thing! Am I the only one that thinks this?
For some reason this kind of reminds me of the Dwarfs song from Snow White.
I have a feeling that the entire film was bringing back all the classic songs, that made it sound the same just a lot more different.
Heck right, that's what I was thinking!!
"This icy force, both foul and fair, has a frozen heart worth mining" is my favorite part of the lyrics for no particular reason.
Most underrated song in the movie, and it’s by far my favorite one.
best movie
This is the only song that I can listen from frozen...
I was surprised this was the first song. LOVED IT.
Elsa = Ice
Anna = Ice miners
It's how I see the song.
WRONG! Anna LOVES Elsa.
Veronica Martinez so.. Ice miners LOVES ice?
Quote Kristoff: "I love ice, ice is my life!"
No, listen: THEY WANNA BREAK IT, TO SELL IT, (EARN MONEY) DUHH!
DUMBO.
Veronica Martinez
You're thinking about it too literally, think more symbolically. The ice miners understand the dangers of ice, yet they still pursue it. Sounds a lot like Anna to me.
Why is this the most toe curling levitating soul assending song ever ????
Why can't there be a musical that is just full of the manliest songs ever conceived?
My 4-year old daughter makes me listen to this over and over. she’s obsessed with this song way more than the others 😂
Apparently like half the girls in my school (which is an all girls school) think Frozen is overrated. Their main reasons for thinking so: "Too much singing" and they think "it should have been a kiss that saved Anna, not a hug."
My response (in my head): Okay, first of all, it wasn't the hug that saved her, it was the fact that SHE JUMPED IN FRONT OF A SWORD TO SAVE HER SISTER'S LIFE!!! Secondly, *THOSE WERE THE BEST PARTS DAMMIT!!!*
Half (or half-ish) of the girls in my school are blind.
Clearly. Too much singing? It's a friggin' Disney Musical for christs sake, what were they expecting? And I'm actually glad that this movie didn't take the tired, predictable route and have everything be solved with a kiss. Tangled was good, but so was Frozen, in their own unique ways. In my opinion, neither of these movies were overrated in the slightest.
BrokenStereo33 Yes! Amen to that. When I found out that Frozen made it to top 10 in the Highest Grossing Movies of All Time and first place on the Highest Grossing Animated Movies of All Time (just today, actually: I haven't been keeping up with the updates) I was so friggin happy! In my opinion it definitely deserves its spot. That might be because I'm a little obsessed with that movie, but still...
RaroCookie15 I agree with both of you! But to shorten everything, those girls just lack common sense.
***** A-yup! :)
Ryan Spurlock Yes. Yes it was amazing :) Let us all bow down in reverence of the film, its makers and it's wonderful cast.
