    LYRICS:
    The snow glows white on the mountain tonight
    Not a footprint to be seen
    A kingdom of isolation
    And it looks like I'm the queen
    The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
    Couldn't keep it in, heaven knows I've tried
    Don't let them in, don't let them see
    Be the good girl you always have to be
    Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know
    Well, now they know
    Let it go, let it go
    Can't hold it back anymore
    Let it go, let it go
    Turn away and slam the door
    I don't care what they're going to say
    Let the storm rage on
    The cold never bothered me anyway
    It's funny how some distance makes everything seem small
    And the fears that once controlled me can't get to me at all
    It's time to see what I can do
    To test the limits and break through
    No right, no wrong, no rules for me
    I'm free
    Let it go, let it go
    I am one with the wind and sky
    Let it go, let it go
    You'll never see me cry
    Here I stand and here I'll stay
    Let the storm rage on
    My power flurries through the air into the ground
    My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around
    And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
    I'm never going back, the past is in the past
    Let it go, let it go
    And I'll rise like the break of dawn
    Let it go, let it go
    That perfect girl is gone
    Here I stand in the light of day
    Let the storm rage on
    The cold never bothered me anyway

    Elsa is one of the most complex character Disney ever designed. She's trying to be strong for everyone but inside she's still a little girl scared by her "curse", scared to hurt someone and to be rejected.

      Doesn't that count for most youth these days? The whole moral of the story is to think less and feel/love more. It's a great message to the world.

    • @Necrovoker
      @Necrovoker 10 років тому +3

      FearTheFluffiness That's why I love this movie so much: 1. you can't find true love in one night, 2. love between siblings is as much important 3. Feel, don't think too much and 4. You don't need anyone's strenght but yours (Anna pretty much saves herself). These are really good morals to pass to the next generation, instead of the "Leave the sewing to the women!" of Cinderella and Co.

    • @FearTheFluffiness
      @FearTheFluffiness 10 років тому +1

      Necrovoker Cinderella has very manly mice helping sewing a dress. :P
      I have not seen any of the Disney girls not fight for what they believe in. They all walk down the roads that they choose. I don't think that any of the Disneyprinces will get away with; "Make me a sandwich, woman", without getting punched in the face, hard. When saving Elsa, I kind of expected Anna to punch Hans in the face before turning into a block of ice. XD

      FearTheFluffiness i think necrovoker meant that unlike other disney princess anna didn't need the prince's kiss to save her she saved herself by saving her sister, who she truly loves

      There's a word for a movie that is also a musical. It's called "a musical." Quite a few of Disney's movies have been like that. Aladdin, Lion King, Pocahontas. All of them had a strong musical side as well.

    Sorry, but I got to say this. It's just I love how in the song, each "Let It Go" is different. Like the first time she sings it she is aware that maybe her powers are worth something. Maybe she shouldn't hide any more.
    The second time she sings the part "Let It Go" she is amazed with her abilities, with what she's capable of. She looks at it like it's art. Thus, she begins building with it.
    Then the third and final time she sings it, she is accepting of herself and is finally able to put her past behind her and "Let It Go".
    I'm sorry this is just such a great song!

    Elsa is my favourite Disney princess ever. She feels like the only one that had insecurities. The others aimed to prove themselves worthy, save their family, help others or live out their dreams, which are all noble aspiration and I admire them too. But Elsa struggled with issues ever person faces, accepting herself for who she is, especially for everything that made her so different. It felt like looking at myself in the mirror. She means that the fact that Elsa later learns that her 'Letting Go' means that she did the exact same things she feared, hurting people. Also at the beginning, 'Don't let them in, don't let them see, be the good girl you always have to be, don't let them know, well now they know' expresses the fact that her father tried to suppress who she was, despite the fact that fer father loved her (which is absolutely heartbreaking, the fact that your father loves you, but doesn't love/fears who you are). I'm not sure what her mother thought of it, though it hints that she was afraid of people fearing her baby, thus making Elsa hide her powers "A kingdom of isolation, and it looks like I'm the Queen. Couldn't keep it in, heaven knows I've tried." Says outright that she had been trying to hide and suppress her powers and who she was for a very long time, and also "And the fears that once controlled me, can't get to me at all" and "I don't care what their going to say" Not only hints at her crushing fear of hurting people, but also people not accepting her, and she never had that fear until she almost killed her sister. "The cold never bothered me anyway" and "The perfect girl is gone" also hints severely that she somewhat resents her parents for making her hide who she was, a playful ice witch who loved the cold and winter (also chocolate), instead making her to be a perfect princess full of diplomacy and grace ("No right no wrong, no rules for me, I'm free" hints at her being disciplined to be something her parents wanted her to be instead of what she was supposed to be). It is rather sad, if you think of the lyrics and what they mean. It's rather deep for a kids movie.

      well all i mean is her frozen castle represents her isolation she imposed on herself from her sister. so it's tragic and lonely but also beautiful, considering the beauty of her power. so in the end she's able to live with both the love of her sister and the beauty of her powers which is a happy ending, but the ice palace is a mediphor for her isolation, considering she says herself that she is the queen of a kingdom of isolation, and she literally has a castle of isolation

      @TheGlacier05 10 років тому +13

      chipper9898 i think that's the point. Disney almost always does a movie version and a pop version of songs. think Reflection where Lea sung it as Mulan and Christina sang the pop version. Idina being the movie version, it HAS to have more emotion to tie in with what the character was feeling at that moment. the pop version has to survive outside the movie storyline.

    • @GalaxinaStyle
      @GalaxinaStyle 10 років тому +1

      TheGlacier05
      But Christina sang the song with emotions too, just the lyrics were different, and that is with more pop versions of disney songs. There are just few ones without the deep emotions, and I think the lyrics are enough for this song to stand in it's own feet outside the movie too. It has his own storyline.

    What I love about this song is it's so triumphant and exuberant, but at it's heart ultimately flawed. She literally builds a castle of ice and makes herself queen of a wasteland, totally oblivious to the damage she is causing, or that there is any option between absolute control and total abandon.

    • @izziebloomfield6541
      @izziebloomfield6541 10 років тому

      I don't really think it is ultimately flawed - yes in the sense that she's being triumphant by hiding away in a frozen wasteland, but that's her way of coping with her powers without losing control. plus the whole reason the kingdom froze was because of her freak out before she left, not her letting go and building her ice palace.
      The way I see it, it's her agreement with herself to start anew in a new place, and letting herself embrace who she really is. She's running away, but she's standing up for herself and that redeems the flaws for me.

    • @stormelemental13
      @stormelemental13 10 років тому

      Izzie Bloomfield But she isn't in control. The kingdom continues to freeze because her power is radiating unchecked. That's what the line, 'Let the storm rage on!' is about. She's letting her power out to do what it naturally does. She can direct it to an extant, but it remains something that she fears, distrusts, and believes is beyond her control. That's why despite this song the ice later turns red and spiky. Her power is controlling her rather than her controlling it.

    • @izziebloomfield6541
      @izziebloomfield6541 10 років тому

      Eric Taysom when she loses control and lets fear take over herself, she loses control over her powers like we saw in the red and spiky ice when the guards came. When she is confident and free she can use them as she wishes, such as building her ice palace and doing all that stuff at the end like the ice rink.

    I enjoyed "Frozen" a lot--it reminded me of the classic Disney movie musicals I grew up with in the '90s and it was wonderfully refreshing to see that Disney's starting to get back to its roots as storytellers.
    With all this said, though, am I the only one who thinks the plot could have been a bit stronger? This song brilliantly sets up Elsa finally releasing her power and learning to have fun with it, ultimately deciding not to go back home . . . and then almost immediately, she gets captured and brought back home anyway. I think it would have been much more interesting if she fought off the soldiers and became the villain of the story, sort of a Scandinavian Morgan Le Fay, if you will. And since the tale is obviously set in a Scandinavian-inspired land, how cool would it have been if she got to the top of the mountain and met some of the fair folk who were more along the lines of the original, shady characters from Norse myth? She could start off happy and positive, as this song illustrates, and then the fairies corrupt her and she becomes the baddie. Like I said, I enjoyed the film as is, I just think some parts of it could have been stronger.

    • @MysticDragonSA
      @MysticDragonSA 10 років тому +14

      I think they were about to do something like Elsa being the antagonist in the story, but they changed it heavily to let Elsa be understood more: specifically how she trapped herself in the room on purpose, and why she ran away.
      The ending became a lot more interesting though I must say. The original idea + script was developed in the 90s along the lines of what you were thinking of, besides the shady characters you mentioned. But I found the idea of Frozen very interesting, rarely you see a movie where you sympathize with both sides as much as Frozen.
      The twists in the movie were pretty unexpected for a disney movie though, I don't think anybody expected the twists in the movie, which is what made it very unique for a disney movie. (not saying any for spoilers)
      IMO I would've preferred something much more darker than the usual Disney movie. There are a lot of points where they could have taken advantage of the plot to make it turn dark and genius Disney movie.

    • @TheaterRaven
      @TheaterRaven 10 років тому +13

      I love what they did with Elsa. I like that her powers were connected to emotion; if she got too angry or excited, they popped out. It makes them much more interesting in comparison to how Disney has handled magical powers in the past, that they're tied to wands or potions. The twists in the movie were great, but I just think they could have gone even more with them. But let's face it, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" is the darkest Disney ever dared to get.

    • @TheaterRaven
      @TheaterRaven 10 років тому +2

      Agreed. What's so great about this movie is that it basically is a traditionally-animated film in 3D's clothing. And the 3D here was used to tell the story and it was beautiful. How they were able to make the ice look like actual ice was gorgeous. It didn't feel like past 3D films where it seemed like, "Yeah, we COULD make this as a traditionally-animated film, but why? 3D's all the rage now, so we'll make it 3D and throw in all kinds of unneeded effects just to show it off. Who cares about story anymore?"
      The music is fantastic, too. This song in particular sounds like a traditional Disney character, not a song written for a famous singer that just happened to get stuck in a Disney film. Or even better, it sounds like a song from a Broadway musical, I've heard that there are plans for a "Frozen" stage show. If that's true, I can't wait to see how they do that. Imagine ice shooting up all over the place as Elsa uses her powers. Wow. I don't know when the show would be, though. I just read in an article on Playbill.com that next year, previews will begin for the US premiere of the stage adaptation of Disney's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame". As cool as "Frozen" is (no pun intended), as a massive Victor Hugo fan/fan of the Disney version, I'd love to see "Hunchback" come out first.

    Let It Go
    The snow glows white on the mountain tonight
    Not a footprint to be seen
    A kingdom of isolation and it looks like I'm the queen
    The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
    Couldn't keep it in, heaven knows I tried
    Don't let them in, don't let them see
    Be the good girl you always have to be
    Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know
    Well now they know
    Let it go, let it go
    Can't hold it back anymore
    Let it go, let it go
    Turn away and slam the door
    I don't care what they're going to say
    Let the storm rage on
    The cold never bothered me anyway
    It's funny how some distance, makes everything seem small
    And the fears that once controlled me, can't get to me at all
    It's time to see what I can do,
    To test the limits and break through
    No right no wrong
    no rules for me -- I'm Free!
    Let it go, let it go
    I'm one with the wind and sky
    Let it go, let it go
    You'll never see me cry
    Here I stand and here I stay
    Let the storm rage on ...
    My power flurries through the air into the ground
    My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around
    And one thought crystallizes like an icy blast
    I'm never going back
    The past is in the past
    Let it go, let it go
    And I'll rise like the break of dawn
    Let it go, let it go
    That perfect girl is gone

    The whole situation with the magic getting "out of hand" could have been avoided with a simple spanking, or at least yelling at the kids. The dad says "Elsa, what have you done? This is getting out of hand" which shows that they have been up WAY TOO LATE/EARLY several times before. The parents could have at least yelled at them, or locked them in their rooms at night. Elsa's magic was totally IN CONTROL. It was the whole freaking her out by telling her to hide it that messed it up, and THAT wouldnt have happened if the girls were set straight early on. The whole situation could have easily been avoided.

      I totally agree, horrible parents. They should have brought her out to the north mountain a long LONG time ago and was like "Elsa, go H.a.m. with your powers" and learn their extent and how to control them. But then again its conducive to the movie so =/ meh.

    • @nakotaihatemylife486
      @nakotaihatemylife486 10 років тому +11

      Okay, this is a kids movie. You're reading way to much into this. I don't think punishing her would have done good. Her magic isnt destructive as long as she looks at it knowing it's beautiful when it's controlled and she isnt scared of it. It's only dangerous when she is in fear. If her parents would have taught her to understand her powers, she wouldnt have had anything to be scared of.

    • @sparklevampFTW
      @sparklevampFTW 10 років тому +5

      The problem was that they were scared of what her magic could become, so made her hide it and kept her away from people, and since they weren't around to see what it was doing to her later on in her life, they couldn't know how that would effect her. Giving her a spanking would do nothing. Sending her up to the North Mountain as a child may have made her want to run away. The solution is in the movie: she just needed to accept herself and the love of her family to find the confidence to control her powers.

      sparklevampFTW maybe giving both of the girls a spanking (Before Anna got hurt) would have taught them to stay in bed until they were told to get up. lol. then they wouldnt have been creating chaos with the snow without supervision. and i think that ***** meant that the parents should have brought her up, and had her kind of "go at it" with her magic, not just send her up there alone

    Dear God...that scene in the movie...Just watching Elsa build her Ice Palace and sing her little heart out gave me chills and the feels....the whole plot around Anna and Elsa's sisterly bond is just heartwarming, heart wrenching, and tear jerking...and I have yet to see Frozen Fever. Beautiful song.

      I've been thinking the same thing. I like to think of her starting to embrace her powers, instead of hiding from them, the way she has her entire life. It's a real turning point.

    Comparing this with Demi's version is a lot like comparing Gary Jules' Mad World to Adam Lambert's rendition of Mad World
    One is a better singer in the conventional sense, but the other just puts so much more emotion into it

    • @Moofmoof
      @Moofmoof 10 років тому +67

      Idina's got both the better voice and emotion though. Demi's sounds like every other pop song imo, while this version sounds like something original.

      Thank you so much for this comment. I've heard too many people saying "Ugh the one in the movie was terrible, Demi's was so much better."

      MayliSong Demi's was completely autotune. This was a real person, with a real voice. Idina's is so much more beautiful and meaningful.

    So I just come to realize that let it go wasn't just a song to vibe with when I was younger, I didn't know the message not until I grew up and realize that it's a song that is trying to make us appreciate and accept ourselves, and not be afraid to show our unique abilites because this could be something worth

      I think it is perfect for Mapleshade because after when she is exiled from RiverClan because she had a mate from a different clan and dropped her kits in the river, this could be her rethinking her life, and then going to the dark forest. I am actually thinking about maybe making an animation to that!
