LYRICS:
Anna:
Elsa?
Do you want to build a snowman?
Come on let's go and play
I never see you anymore
Come out the door,
It's like you've gone away
We used to be best buddies
And now we're not
I wish you would tell me why
Do you want to build a snowman?
It doesn't have to be a snowman
Elsa: Go away, Anna
Anna:
Okay, bye
Anna:
Do you want to build a snowman
or ride our bike around the halls?
I think some company is overdue
I've started talking to
The pictures on the walls
(Hang in there, Joan!)
It gets a little lonely,
All these empty rooms,
Just watching the hours tick by...
(tick-tock tick-tock tick-tock tick-tock)
Anna:
Elsa?
Please I know you're in there,
People are asking where you've been,
They say "have courage";
And I'm trying to,
I'm right out here for you
Just let me in
We only have each other
It's just you and me
What are we gonna do?
Do you want to build a snowman? (sniff)

I felt so bad foe both of them. Anna felt her sister ignored her for an unknown reason and was lonely growing up. Elsa was thinking she was a monster and had to deal with ignoring her sister, who she loved.

the last part seriously makes me cry.. Anna's voice has so much emotion in it :( I wish Elsa had opened the door
This part of the movie broke my heart.
Hrrrrrgh. All the cute feels at the beginning, young Anna muffling her voice through the keyhole, pre-teen Anna talking with the portraits...then the sad feels of teen Anna not even attempting to knock anymore, the loss of their parents, and Anna and Elsa grieving alone.
Excellent job Disney, you built up and shattered our emotions right at the beginning of the movie, putting us in the perfect mood for the rest of it.
This is a spoiler. Great job. You RUINED THE MOVIE. Please remove your comment sir/mistress.
AcezXFS AcZ Yes, how dare you spoil the first 10 minutes.
AcezXFS AcZ Shaddup.
When she didn't use the code knock anymore. =(
AcezXFS AcZ the only thing that is "spoiled" in this comment is the part about her parents dyeing. However in the lyrics, at the end, Anna talks about how its only herself and her sister, basically telling the listener that her parents have either died or are not in the picture anymore
"Oh, Anna, if only there was somebody out there who wanted to build a snowman with you."
I WOULD! :D
i actually prefer Anna over Elsa. :P

This song really hits home to anyone who has a sibling who's withdrawn because of depression. When I was a kid, my older sister one day stopped coming out of her room and wanting to hang out with people; she isolated herself from anyone who wasn't in her immediate circle of friends, and her and I had been close for so long. She was having so many problems, but I couldn't help her because she wouldn't let me in on them. Thankfully, time heals all wounds, but it's still such a hard time to think about. Everyone, be good to your family and friends when you suspect they aren't well. Please be with them and be thankful for all the days you have them.
I'm glad she turned out okay.
Leah Cedillo Nobody asked you

i wish i had a sibling like you lol
JoshDPathfinder well at least it’s all good now
I can never get over how hard this must be for Elsa, watching her sister slowly give up on her.
The beauty of it all is that she never completely gave up on her.
To Elsa she did, every time Anna came knocking Elsa had to push her away and lock her out. Until one day there were no more knocks at her door.
yuishizu2 Yes. Yes she did. That last "Do you want to build a Snowman" was her ultimate plea for help. The last chance she gave her sister to open the door, to be her sister. Her last chance to make it "you and me". She's begging Elsa, and Elsa doesn't even answer. To Anna, it's over, she's alone.
The thing is, Anna is a Mary-Sue... but in the good sense of the term. She's just so good as a person, and in the end, she is just as strong and smart as her sister. Her main characteristic, throughout the whole movie ( and especially put forward in this song ) is enthusiasm. When Elsa finally lashes out, Anna gets it. She just gets it and forgive, because that's how nice and smart she is.
God the character building in this movie is good.
It is one of the reasons why it is my favorite but I wouldn't call Anna a Mary Sue since that is someone who is never threatened by the events of the narrative. But she is threatened (A lot) but she doesn't change who she is as a character because she necessarily doesn't require any dramatic character change (unless you count the changing of romantic love interest, which I don't) she's kind, loyal, fair and most importantly she's logical.
She doesn't immediately jump to "OMG MA SISTAS A WHICH!" when she discovers Elsa ice powers, she's one of the first characters to actually propose that she is scared and just trying to get away. And not only in that movie but in fiction too! I've seen to many characters fall under the "instantly hate" when another does a panic mess up.
AcetylsaliciIique How the heck is Anna a Mary Sue??? 0_o
I don't know who has it the worst. Anna for having her sister shut her out and she never knew why, Elsa for being forced to shut herself from everyone including herself, or Olaf for never being rebuilt during the time lapse.
Elsa

I don't know. I feel like Elsa has the burden of her power, but Anna doesn't understand why the two have to be separate.

I know, its so sad. Makes me cry x
anyone else come back to this song because you just remember the last verse and start tearing up? i can’t be the only one-
YES
I don't even. This entire movie was the greatest disney movie in YEARS. I'm a teenage guy and this movie me feel like a toddler watching Aladdin.
Same here, not a big fan of disney's recent explorations but this was great....kinda wish they would go back to hand-drawing some stuff since that's become a lost art to them it seems :-\ still a amazing movie I loved every second of it and i'm a 19 year old XD
Same. This is probably the only Disney movie I would watch on my own time willingly.
The trailers didn't do me justice, and I wasn't going to see it at all. But thank my female friend for taking me along. During the Let it Go song, my heart fully embraced my love for this movie.
I think it's because of the many many many songs, it's just so 90s style this way.
The scene with the parents' ship in the stormy ocean was one of the most haunting things I have seen in a LONG time.
the person that wrote tarzan, also wrote this one, so you know he likes making orphans
Ana Rodriguez
Well, yeah. But in the visual sense is what I am talking about.
This song depresses me greatly. It reminds me of how similar me and my younger brother's relationship is with Anna and Elsa's. We kept ourselves separated even while living in the same house and now as adults with busy schedules we barely see each other. So even a simple thing as making a snowman is impossible for us. Even more sad is that my brother share's Anna's personality and I have been compared to Elsa by my friends. This song hits me hard like an icy blast to my heart.
Remember as elsa said it: "Love will thaw", you'll find that time to hang out and maybe you'll be best buds like elsa and anna ^.^ trust me
"Love will thaw,yes, love"
Zachary Guiuan Thanks. Your kind words mean a lot to me.
so how is it
How is it now?
Me and my brothers relationship is similar..... We see each other, but never talk, or play outside together anymore, even though "We used to be best buddies, but now we're not. I wish you would tell me why......"
why people say that Anna freezing is the saddest scene????? i found this part as the saddest, and also mades me cry always i hear it and for some reason makes feel alone!!!!!!!
same here....been crying a lot because of this song...
Can't agree more, this scene was the saddest one for me too .
i agree i think annas freezing scene was the 2nd sadest XD

"okay, byeee...." I wonder how many takes they did of that before they hit the perfect combination of cuteness and sadness!
I know right?
Watched this movie today. I am just so blown away. The story is not original in the slightest, but it's a classic story, presented in an incredibly strong fashion with a lot of humor and charm. More than just a cash in, it feels like a fairy tale, told by people who really wanted to create something. And of course, awesome animation.
"We only have each other now, it's just you and me. What are we gonna do? Do you wanna build a snowman?"
Why? Why do I always find myself singing this part of the song since that's one of the parts in the movie that drains and spends all my emotions?
I like to think the three notes at 3:05 - 3:08 are meant to be Elsa's response and fit to the words of "Yes, I do." but since she can'r say those words out loud to Anna, the notes represent her response within her head... :)
OMG I thought the same thing! I always sing "yes, I do" the way she would.
Cody Merna i do this too
i like to think that Elsa sings right after Anna singing "OF COURSE I WANNA BUILD A SNOWMAN"
Thought I was the only one!
There was a deleted scene where Elsa sang "Yes, I want to build a snowman" and a couple of other lines right before the very end. It's so sad they took it out, I think it would have fit perfectly!
I love how they use three different vocalists in this song and it just works so well. I absolutely love this song.
that last part... makes me cry...
me too I was crying so much
Man, I just LOVE this song! ❤ But it's also so sad since Anna misses Elsa just as much as Elsa misses her...and they can no longer do their favorite pastime...building a snowman. And then when their parents die. 😢😭
snowman.... I FEEL LIKE OLAF HAS THEIR SOULS
the last lines kill me inside
just the contrast between the beginning and end oh my god
Having a neglecting dad and brother, I lacked a lot of daddy influence when i was younger. Then later realizing that my brother had literally nothing from my dad, I feel so bad.
This song just breaks my heart.
Oh don't worry, things will get better
What a sad song ... Anna was rejected because Elsa was scared ... for years.
... Her final knock isn't like the other ones ... she's matured by then ... and still just wants to see her sister who "abandoned" her years ago.
Exactly what 9/11 has done to me now. Woody noticed the guilt I’m feeling about not saving those who died from the towers because I hadn’t been born for another 9 months yet. Even Woody.EXE has noticed it that I’m rejecting my duties as Queen and he’s concerned that I might not continue my reign anymore but he knows I need time. I’m up every night thinking about them and I think the United 93 movie screwed me up hugely that I’m giving up easily. I can’t believe this happened
What the fuck are you talking about? 🥰
Wait didn’t her parents tell her to hide?
@@ampPlayz1the parents did a terrible job helping her through her emotions. That lead to fear taking over her young mind and”conceal don’t feel “ didn’t help anything. Because her magic is completely controlled by her mind. And the gloves were a huge crutch
All these comments are from like 5+ years ago and I’m thinking damn...it’s been that long since the movies initial release. And now the sequel is coming out in 5 days. Where has time gone?

Amazing storytelling throughout the movie. These songs are amazingly well written.
This song made me cry so hard when I was in the cinema. D:
I know right! I cried so much throughout the movie >.< Curse you, Disney!
7 years AGO WTF. my childhood is slowly drifting away... But it feels like it's going by so fast..
If you listen to the lyrics and actually understand them, this is a really sad song and it made me tear up. :(.
Anna asks, "do you want to build a snowman?" And then the next line she says, "it doesn't have to be a snowman." She is literally begging her sister to spend time with her. Anna suggests building a snowman but they can do whatever Elsa wants, but Anna just wants to hang out with her sister. :(
Well yeah she's got no idea what on earth is going on (as her memory was wiped). She's sincere in the request for sure. Children (target audience) won't notice this detail of brutal, forced separation from your beloved sister, so I guess they let it pass because of that.

2:05 - 2:22 - Oh please no...

2:54 - end - (Screams loudly while crying) I WANNA BUILD A SNOWMAN!! AHHHHHHHH!!!! y u do dis to meheeheeee...?

6years later now we have it
Movies like this make me realize how much I wish I was a decent singer... and that everyday people sang randomly...
I now I wish everyday people sang randomly to
Greg Chiles I do sing randomdly. Pretty much everyday.
Danielle Flowers
Me too. I sing while driving, while cooking, while doing almost everything.
Singing is like anything else- if you closely observe and practice, you get better. I'd wager the number of irrevocably tone deaf is very, very low. Just work on it, if you want to.
I like the later versions of Guitar Hero, because it visually demonstrates if your singing pitch is flat or sharp. We need more stuff like that. :)
I was discussing this song with my family.
My ten year old brother told me that he got bored in this song, it didn't give him anything to go on.
Whereas my dad, who's normally quite tough looking and no-talky-talky about his feelings, just turned to him and went 'Well... I got a bit emotional at that part actually'.
So I've decided that this song must be really FREAKING emotional, which it is. No matter what kind of opinions you have on family values, you can sympathise with these two sisters. And I mean, you can REALLY sympathise with them. Only having each other left, but feeling like they don't even know each other anymore. How are they even going to cope? They're going to feel so alone, and by the next song you can tell that they have been. Anna's excitement for just a few windows to open, to see other human life, it just proves that she's been far too lonely for a teenager like her. And Elsa, well Elsa feels that she's got to stay away from others in order to keep them safe. Isolated permanently. That is really heartbreaking. And if you can't feel sympathy for THAT, I've got to question how much you're actually paying attention to the film...?
This is one of the few songs that can make me cry.
me too...I cried while watching the movie..wont lie....I was like this is sad as heck wtf..thought it was supposed to be funny..but now im addicted!! lol

Why is this so adorable?
This song is so meaningful it isn't even funny. My friends and I sing it to each-other in the hallways at school, and we've even made up our own lyrics. Although, the original second-verse is what we usually jam to. Whenever we have to part ways, we sing, "Okay byeee.."
And I recently went on a church retreat. Everyone was singing the soundtrack. Literally everyone. There were over 100 of us. We all wanted to build a snowman.
dats funny :D i was singing this song and my crush walked by singing it at the same time :D
Bonnie Eblen Omagerd that's so cute and beautiful >.< Dude, I'd internally squeal really loudly if my crush sang with me XD (even if only for a bit)
i only chuckle at Okay Byee.. cause its cute. but thats awesome that everyone was sing
OH MY GOSH! SAME! I went to a church camp and we all sang that song and our dorm parent would sing right back at us, Do you wanna hide a dead body?

No idea but I know that Anna has different parts for younger and older so does elsa
Can't blame you for that...😭
i think this was my favorite song. I think because it said so much between the both of them and how much it was hurting both of them. My sister and I relationship is just like anna and elsa. I hope one day we will be able to be close like they did at the end.

i saw the film in french and i can clearly say that in the original version we can feel it way more! just omg got goosebumps man
That last line. Goddammit.
"Hang in there, Joan" and when she speaks through the door got me in stitches at the cinema! xD

"Do you want to build a snow man?" :) I love this movie!
Thank you Rose Red and, as a reader, I love your screen name. :)
Frozen Movie Fan Credit. Not money. Right now I've listened to a song that Disney spent work writing, composing and recording and they didn't earn a dime. I think Rose did instead because she has ads turned on.
I advise people to listen to this song for free on Spotify if they live in NA. I live in a region where it's unavailable but the instrumentals aren't.
open.spotify.com/album/7lZs5r4oQV2nutddffLrg0
I'm not denying my own hypocritical actions. I just think it's important that people can at least acknowledge that it's not sustainable just to give credit to other peoples work. They need to earn fruits off their labor as well
wonderful pic... how did you find it?
You're definitely not wrong about credit. But ads placed next to UA-cam videos typically are there to generate revenue for the claimant (in this case UMG) and not money for me. Not much better, obviously.
...its blank
I cry every time!
Quincy Chuu same at the end
Honestly, this song gives me chills. More than any other song (for record, Let It Go it's my favorite and it didn't made me feel like that). Because it kinda remembers me my problematic relationship with my older sister. She's always mean to me, even when I know she's hurt and that she needs me, she puts this huge... Door and don't let me in. Anyway, this song is great and I love to hear it.
That brought tears to my eyes :(
Do you wanna cry your eyes ooout? This scene was pretty saaaaad. I watch it in the theater then, drove home at half past ten, and hugged my mom and daaaaaad! i watched this in the cinema last night and at the end a little kid yelled out 'mummy is she okay?' 'does she not want to build a snowman??' and we were only two songs in and i freaking lost it
The way you can relate to this song about being alone and someone you love not wanting anything to do with you anymoren
my name is abdullah i am inlove with you come see me ok
can i meet you my name is abdullahmohamed were are you from
I honestly think that this song and For the First Time in Forever (Reprise) are the saddest songs, because they show the struggle of Anna trying to repair the relationship between her and Elsa.
kristen bell is such a wonderful singer.. i feel like she kind of has the same qualities in her voice that belle/paige o'hara had sometimes.
That last line...
"Do you want to build a snowmaaaan...."
Just that last line alone can break the biggest, meanest, manliest of men. That got me when I saw it in theaters...hell it got me again now...
I watched this to feel happier, since I'm super moodswingy right now.
Then the last part kicked in... :'/

Just saw this with my nephew today. I'm in love with this soundtrack.
I'm addicted to this song! >.<
When Anna's voice starts to break at the end makes me want to cry. ;m;
So did a little kid actually sing the part of young Anna?
Yes, the youngest girl is Katie Lopez, the songwriters' daugther :)
xXxItsEmily whoa. thanks for telling i need that for my stalker mode to this movie
Miku Hatsune
There are 4 people who sing/voice Anna.
Kristen Bell is the main voice. Livvy Stubenrauch is her voice as a child.
Katie Lopez was the singing voice for her as a child, leaving Agatha Lee Monn as her 9 year old voice for this song.
''it doesn't have to be a snowman.'' cracked up!
Oh it is me.. this is making me so sad
I can't wait for frozen 2 to come out.
I DIDN'T KNOW THAT, THAT IS FREAKING AWESOME!!!!
0;0 when is it coming out?
yleineping i doubt we'll get a sequel. the story is done. i wouldn't doubt if they gave us a short like they did with tangled though.
ZNearX mooooooooooooooooooooooooooo now I am dissapointed :(
I think I am going to melt like olaf only then of sadness :(
yleineping well put it this way. would you rather have a good standalone movie, or a shitty ass sequel?
Why not option C: 2 or three really good movies? Like toy story or lion king?
When I was younger, I used to make jokes about this song all the time. Now, I understand and relate to what Anna and Elsa were going through, man growing up sucks.
