For anybody who cares, this song is a combination of a Danish Christian hymn with a yoik, a traditional type of singing among the Sami people.
*****
The song was composed by Frode Fjellheim, a famous Norwegian yoiker, and I recognized the rhythm as being similar to that of the hymn "Fairest Lord Jesus."
Thanks for the info.! :)
Are there actually words being sung to this?
Duncan Morgan
Not words, per se. Yoiking is more like chanting than singing, similar to Native American vocables.
2wingo Thanks .I was in a debate with my friend about it. She thought that there were actually words while I disagreed.
I was really impressed that Frozen started off with a bang thanks to this song. It gave me goosebumps even the first time I heard it.
And you know what else is amazing? The song is entirely a cappella.
Oh wow, I just realized that. O.o
I agree, this song made me like the movie from the start just sort of set the feel of the movie.
Oh ya, and also, this song is actually from the Saami culture. The Saami people were located in the northern part of Europe (Norway, Finland, Sweden, etc.), the same region where Arendale is located. It makes so much sense now.
The transition from this song to Frozen Heart(Ice Harvester’s song) is also quite important. The Saami people were under intense pressure by Russia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Denmark. They lost most of their culture and the right to use their former territory.
The transition from Vuelie to Frozen Heart represents the Scandinavians and Russians depriving the Saami of their culture and resources.
my school did this in choir, absolutely ruined this song for me
.... yeah I’m back from they Frozen II teaser.
Damnit Disney got me.
Nah :) The Great Thaw (Vuelie Reprise) is better :> (similar to tailer theme [a little bit])

MY CHOIR IS TOO
This is one of the greatest ways to open a movie, especially the way it blends in with "Frozen Heart" was just too perfect for words
Couldn't agree more. I think that combination is even more powerful than "Let it Go", though that is debatable.
Lasertech Studios I think they should have "let it go" from the soundtrack and just concentrated on nifty Sami/Norwegian instrumentals with great vocals like this one...
Calvin Hill agreed, too bad the rest of the movies music was generic.
me too
My disappointment is that there isn't enough music like this in the film itself. It returns when Elsa is escaping the palace after the big fiasco and at the very end. I think, for the pop music, if they were able to somehow incorporate the traditional/folk sound to them it'd be fantastic.
I personally felt like there was not enough dialogue to compensate the music in the film. However, the moral and the characters were too cute for the film to not be enjoyable, and despite the songs being UBER catchy, the film was wonderful. Disney did it right. Though I still believe they outdid themselves more with Brave. However, this song was my favorite from start to finish (in the film). All the poppy songs, and Olaf's little scene were a nice touch, but if they were to have added more tribal-like/instrumental hymns then it would have made the movie feel less like Frozen (to me) and more like The Lion King, or Alice in Wonderland. To each his own, yes?
I have my issues with Frozen. I don't feel they used the characters to their full potential, and the twist, while interesting, was done poorly. Like Brave, the story had a lot of potential to go beyond what they did, but they decided not to. It was a good film though, and as for the music, well, if they wanted to separate it from Lion King I guess that works. But it seems, with the opening music we get a taste of the film's atmosphere, and that's what I expected. Disney has done that a lot with several of their films-the consistency of the location travels in the music. The songs are nice though, and I adore "Let It Go." Sure, to each his own.
god damn disney... the song producer made alot more music for the film and they didnt even put them in. :(
Agreed.
writethatrainbow lore
Don't worry. They use it a lot more in the Broadway show. I saw the first performance of the tryout run in Denver just last Thursday.
By the way, the musical was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!
When this music started to play, even with the whole room black-out, I already knew something magic and epic was coming.
And I was correct.

yes, i agree. I feel that a good disney movie should always have a title scene with beautiful vocals.

Welcome to the "who is here from the frozen 2 trailer?" comment section! 😂
Lol. It will happen soon... XD
Of course 😂
Harshith Alva That’s me. The teaser didn’t excite me much but the music and character looks were the only two things I liked.
@@manuelorozco7760 Knowing the first movie even became a hit thanks to the music, that's understandable!
Harshith Alva I’m just not excited for the sequel yet overall since I liked the first movie but the publicity was too over the top for me. Left me paranoid and overwhelmed but I just need something to get me almost excited as I was for the original to come out.
Many of you are calling this Tribal and forest-y.. it's actually not really meant to conjure up that image... it's a story-telling Nordic/Ice-folk chant. Tribes of the north would sing this when the sky lit up at night to summon spirits to help tell their tales.
It sounds magical...
It's important to keep in mind here that North and West Africa and Nordic countries share deep ancient roots together. There are strikingly similar cultures, procedures and stylings from both ancient cultures. Coincidence? Maybe. But probably not.
Collin Gifford
Well, we all share a common ancestor, so maybe when Humanity spread out across the world (Or Pangaea split apart, whichever way you want to look at it,) stories, traditions, and customs traveled with them, eventually adapting to the new area with the new inhabitants. When I first heard this song, I thought it sounded like African Chanting, yet my dad said it sounded more along the lines of Celtic, and my mom thought it might have been Nordic. Either way, it's an amazing song, and that is something i think we can all agree upon.
Well, if tribes would sing it... then it is tribal.
@@collin4555 the song was composed by Frode Fjellheim, a norweigan composer, in 2002
I really did not expect Frozen to be that good. But it surprised me, it is probably one of my favorite movies of all time, and might be my favorite Disney movie. I really like the music as well. Some have a beautiful tone(like this one) and others feel like the good old classic songs Disney has always made. I really love the movie and this song.
Omg me too!
i hate disney movies with a passion but frozen is the best movie i've seen that doesn't involve war
they should do the scrat opening scene after the vuelie
Leavittman I had a feeling, when the previews came on, that this would be a movie I adored. I asked my mother to take me to the theaters for this as my 24th birthday present and that experience is still one of the best gifts I've received.
truisticprince what about the classic Disney movies?
The first time I watched this movie THIS intro literally made me cry. May be silly, but also made me think of Walt Disney and what he left here on Earth. After several decades, he's still present and is still an influence in every work the factory creates.
Amen to that
+Mariana Garcia Same here! And I had no idea why :O
+Mariana Garcia Me too .
In the theater this intro was powerful.
To me it s the best disney intro ever.
That snowflake in the beginning of the movie is very important as it symbolizes an important aspect of the Frozen! :)
Did you know Walt actually worked on frozen? Even before Snow White

Speak for yourself -_-
When I heard this in the theatre... Just wow, goose bumps and spine tingling
I went into this movie for the first time having serious doubts that it would be anything special...I've never been so glad to be so wrong in all my life. The second this started playing I got goosebumps instantly. I'm a 20 year old dude and after seeing it 3 more times this song still gives me shivers like no other. Best animated film I've seen in a very long time.
pretty much my reaction going into this with huge doubts 3 seconds in this starts playing I am on the edge of my seat and all past doubts are already out the window.
I was actually so skeptical (based on trailers) that I didn't even bother seeing this in theaters. Kicking myself!
I went to this movie because a dear friend got me a ticket. As soon as this song started to play I did not care how the movie was (it was awesome) because this song was amazing.
Max Baker I was 20 when the movie came out too. But I felt potential for this movie long before it came out. So I had moderate expectations going in. And most of them were met
wow now u r 26 year old dude time moves fast
I adore this style of music... the chanting is very calming. It makes you think of whole other worlds, other stories and opportunities.
Very tribal music, and makes it so dang natural, can't stop loving Disney movies. the music and plots just keep coming.
Frozen 2 ended with this as well. To finally close a chapter of Elsa's story arc
@Shadow Hedgehog Do you really think Disney would pass on the idea to make Frozen a trilogy? Toy Story didn't need to be a saga yet we have Toy Story 4.
Anyone else want a 3rd movie or just me probably more than just me
It's a great sign when the title screen already gives you chills (get it, chills? :P )
Oh man, the castle and this song, it was just magical! I agree!
***** Brace yourself, winter puns are coming.
***** They're so bad, even Elsa would give them the cold shoulder.
Glad to see that they finally made this movie after it's spent the last few decades on ice
Dang! All of the good puns were arleady used. Now I don't have a snowball's chance in having a funny reply/comeback. :(
I thought I was watching a Lion King sequel or something when I first heard this in the theatre. Extremely beautiful.
Allen Douangchak This would actually fit perfectly
This is Norway; You’re thinking Tanzania.
It was so beautiful listening to this in the theater when the movie was beginning.
If you're like me, hearing this music is when you knew Frozen was going to be amazing.
I never thought they'd beat The Lion King's opening, The Little Mermaid's Songs, or The Beauty and the Beast's touching story... but they did... they did... :D

The first time this was played, it was stuck in my head so much that I didn't pay much attention to the next song, Frozen Heart XP
I remember seeing the movie the first time. As soon as the opening starts off with that, even during Walt Disney intro, I said to myself, "This movie is going to be great..."
I know that because it's a popular movie Frozen gets a lot of hate, but it deserves its popularity. This will always be one of my favourite Disney films. It's so magical.
Even after almost 7 years, i still get goosebumbs over this song. Especially at 1:15

This was really calming to hear & it made me excited to watch the movie when I was in the theatre.
I used to hate Disney movies, but ever since this one, I've come to love nearly every single one of the animated films, my favorite being Big Hero 6. Hopefully Frozen 2 turns out to be a great movie.

My friend can sing the exact thing, no flaws, the perfect tune and everything, she is a great singer
That is amazing :O
she must hav a great sense of pitch
She does..its so weird, in school plays, she always gets solos
well it has like 5 or 6 parts if she can sing all of them thats impressive, not like just soprano or alto
One of the most beautiful things I’ve ever herd in my life
I feel like the song is a mix of Lilo & Stitch, Brother Bear, and The Lion King.
That is a perfect description of this song.

omg yes!! it reminded me of the lion king immediately but now that you mention it it really sounds like lilo & stitch and brother bear too
yes I agree! it reminded me so much of Brother Bear :)

This is the combo of Lion King and Brother Bear.
I admit, I had my doubts about this movie. The trailers were absolutely atrocious, and I hadn't heard anything other than that beyond "new disney movie based on the Snow Queen starring Idina Menzel". So, I was a little skeptical.
However, when the movie started, and this began playing, I knew IMMEDIATELY that I was in for a great ride.
Same here man, same here.
Everyone says this reminds them of Lion King but I can't help but think of Brother Bear.

I was thinking Avatar
This song is beautiful
When I first heard this in the theater, my first thought was "Lilo and Stitch?!" It really set the mood for the rest of the movie. :)
Have you ever listened to something so powerful it gave you chills? This falls under that very definition. Beautiful, Peaceful, Epic, . . .Perfect.
This is pretty nostalgic for me now. Can't believe the first film is actually 7 years old. Those were simpler times...
I think this is my favorite song from the movie. Well and For the First Time in Forever
GeekyZelda Mine are Let It Go And In Summer
reminds me 10x more of Pocahontas than The Lion King. Ethnic chanting with beautiful chorus singing and ethereal-sounding music?
Pocahontas is one of Disney's best classics. And thinking about it while listening to this brings back a lot of childhood memories! I agree it reminds me so much of Pocahontas! This piece is AMAZING!!!
True!
I actually synchronized this song with the opening song of Pocahontas. It was amazing :)
Exactly
You know, this is my new favorite Disney Movie. My last one, Lion King, opened with a chant in a traditional language. Does anyone else see the connection? I also feel like early-film Anna resembles young Simba a little bit.
Yes, my thoughts exactly :)
we both feel the same....
the music is so heartwarming
like THE Lion King OST
it's so great,, salute to the composer
Well they are both like from the same composer was it?
Nope! Hans Zimmer did the score for TLK. Frozen's score was done by someone else.
even both movies had different composer they both deliver the best of it..
The sound of angels from heaven.
omg the beginning of this was my all time fav. I was attached to it when the movie started.
***** hahaha true when I watched the movie for the first time the next thing I noticed was this song after the storyline. I didn't know whether there's a song like let it go,mean I didn't really notice.
i come because of moana opening and tried if frozen has one too lol
Ru- TBANA SAME
OH MY GOODNESS! This song gave me goosebumps!
Kind of interesting how the only 2 Disney movies that incorporated this sound somewhere in their movie, specifically the beginning, happen to be rated the top 2 Disney movies of all time.
This and Lion King. Openings of both movies have a sound very similar.
Damatovg Pretty true, Lion King was the first thing i thought about when i read your post and really listened to the music. But even so, it's still worth the prizes, right? :)
What prizes *****?
Damatovg actually Brother Bear has this kind of sound too
not sure I remember that one Juan Santos
Glad at least here the comment section is not overflown with hipsters hating on this movie all the time. If you filter out all the hype and judge the movie based on it's actual quality instead of just bashing it for its popularity or because it wasn't part of your childhood, you will see that this movie is pretty fucking amazing!
THANK YOU!!!
I second that that thank you. The Lion King kids are the worst haters. I grew up on Peter Pan and The Jungle Book butbI love and adore Frozen.
I was one of those who grew up and loved The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. But I always see the youtube comments on old disney songs be like "UHR;UHGURD FROZEN SUCKS THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER!!11!" well, I think a lot of people who write that do not realize how tired people would get at us listening to all the songs back then. It's really just the same thing, just that a new generation has come. I for one LOVE Frozen and I think it is a brilliant Disney movie, though it does not surpass Beauty and the Beast (not talking out of Nostalgia here!)
Evelien Nijenhuis Haha me too. As a grown adult you'd expect me to like Disney movies only for nostalgia purposes. But Frozen and every other Disney flick are just effin amazing to watch.
***** Nope. I take away the popularity, and I still see a mediocre movie filled with plot holes, poppy songs, and dull characters.
Anyone watching after frozen 2. This song makes so much sense
I got chills when I heard this in the beginning and the end... soooo beautiful!!!! I love that they took traditional music and style for this movie!!! This choir is amazing!

As much as I loved this movie and find it to be very outstanding and awesome, it was pretty short in my opinion, felt like it was a setting for a sequel that we could get in the future. Hope it happens, cause this, and Wreck It Ralph really deserves one!
seriously, I think everyone who watched and enjoyed can agree with this right now ha ha ;P
Definitely
Eh, maybe not a sequel. You know how disney is with those. However, more princess movies set in this universe (like tangled seems to be) would be more than welcome.
I actually doubt a sequel would happen, but it's ever announced, I'll be gladly to watch it.
Well maybe they could make a proper show out of stuff like this and replace the junk that's on tv now(shake it up, jessie, etc)

The most touching song in Frozen.
This music is so beautiful
When I saw this movie for the first time in the theaters, just as the movie started,
I just gasped excitedly when I heard the voice echoes singing through the theaters
It was an incredible intro
This intro reminded me of some intros from other Disney films
1. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
2. Brother Bear
3. The Lion King
Even though they open a little differently, the intro kind of reminded me of those three mostly "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"
Because just when the movie begin, you hear the voices singing just before the screen shows us Notre Dame ahead
I love this opening
Love it LOVE it
When hear it a lot, it haunts through my head
