Massively! Big thing for me is usually musicians fade or are rarely as good as their first group.. with the exception of Weller who I personality prefer style council and then solo work over the jam. Only other person I can think of is George Michael, who’s solo work was better than Wham imo. Both unbelievable British musicians
While he has put out some great albums this century (22 Dreams for one), his output in the 90s was just epic. 4 lps in a row as good as anything anyone has recorded...PW, Wildwood, Stanley Rd., Heavy Soul.
Those 4 are my alltime fave PW albums , I don’t think he came close in the 2000s in my opinion, I think his debut solo is very underrated, Kosmos, Bullrush, into tomorrow, uh oh yeh, and above the clouds are absolutely brilliant songs, Kosmos is my fave Weller song …..
@samuraininjarockstar9355 100% 1st album is a classic....I think every song there has something...Bitterness Rising...Strange Museum...Above the Clouds...well...every song 😊
This album and this song, as played on Jools Holland, is what reacquainted me with Paul Weller. I had listened to The Jam and The Style Council but this made me realize how talented Paul is and I became a true fan.
What many ignore is Paul’s eye for talent. A tender aged Steve White is tagged immediately and becomes a driving force for TSC ... then stays with Paul for many years after adapting to Paul’s genius along the way ...
So glad I lived in a time when Paul Weller was making and performing music live. Blessed to have seen him play this song and many more, as he has taken each one of us on a most enthralling musical journey. He is truly a unique musical talent.
Rage and glory! Great performance of a brilliant song. Neil Young & fxcxing God Marriot seem to possess him. For me this album was an statement, new rules of how a heavy soul style could sound, refreshing the soul panorama and roaring hard. Really kikd m off on 97! …And now with 66 splendid work …go on Mr Weller!
Esta canción es de lo mejor que escuche en toda mi vida. Juro que al final, el solo de Paul acompañado por los violines y demás cuerdas, me hace llorar. Gracias Paul! Genio Paul!
I think when SR came out it was also (1995) a real big Brit pop vibe going on.... by the time this came out.... it was dying a little. Stanley Road definitely set the bar high for sure. but I bought borh and I did like this but felt that there were less great tracks on it than SR.
Think by his performance Mr Weller knew this song was a classic.Plus he might of been Flexing for that excited blonde cellist. Amazing period for the man.
Whitey and Weller, nothing more !
How under appreciated is Paul ? up there with the best singer songwriters ever in my opinion .. so much soul ,,
John Kenny ,Now "That's entertainment' with a Heavy Soul ,it's a joy to hear from the floorboards up. "Paul Weller Movement'.
Very true.

He is his generation's finest guitarist songwriter but I don't see he is under-appreciated. We appreciate how fine he is.

@Lloyd Boon: world of music In your opinion. However, his new band (apart from Cradock) are no match for this line up.
It appears like he’s playing an audition we’re his life depends on it…….truly awesome!

This man simply blows my mind. His enormous creativity, supreme poetry, style, energy....♾🌹
Totally in my top ten Paul Weller songs ever. Brilliant. Amazing. Love it.
I admire and enjoy the way Weller uses a guitar, as a raw, powerful, but sensitive instrument.
Weller at his best and Stevie White on drums 🫶🏼
Nice to see a clip of when Matt Deighton was there. He has some serious chops.
The Rt. Hon. Lord Steven White on drums y'all...
Absolutely legendary! Without fail Paul weller is up there as one of the UKs best song writer of all all time . Period . No I’m not an oasis fan 😁
Oasis=Beatles tribute act!🙄
This is seriously some of the best rock n' roll I've seen in ages. I don't know why I wasn't following Paul Weller in 1997. Guy is brilliant.

Listen to that SG... PW is beyond words in so many ways.
Really liked Heavy Soul as an album never felt it got the recognition it deserved previous 2 set the bar V high to be fair 👍

this guy is amazing! few people know him in Brazil. unbelievable!
Denise Avalone Good music always travels well;-)

Def. Every video she's 👀😍
@ginosupernova- Good point- like it!
Heaviest Soul PW ✊
I just watched a jooles from 94... he aged a lot in 2 years...
By his own admission he was in something of a personal spiral at that point and 'partying' way too much. It took its' toll.
Bugle
A god
Little by little xD
A great song with great lyrics, weller was always better with Whitey behind him, no Craddock
Anybody else think this is slowed down slightly?
Smash this nme
the last year of paul weller when he meant it, post 90s paul weller TRASH, just in it for the money, 77 to 97 when I was a fan
The start of the decline till 22 dreams. Hed started to run out of ideas.
I can't be beaten & I can't be bought Such arrogance:-)
Paul weller is not,i repeat,not unappreciated.even suggesting such a thing is true musical blasphemy.
I thought everything that ever happened was underrated?
