I would pretty much chew my left arm off to have been at this concert to see this, this one unbelievably excellent cut. Stunning. Exceptional. Outrageous. All words that fall tremendously short of the mark.
Superb. This one sort of flew under my radar a bit when the album came out. Listening to it now? How talented is PW? The greatest singer / songwriter ever, bar none. No one else need apply....
the song is hypnotic, the 2 chords in the beginning are magical, it is so sweet to the ears, Your voice compliments the feeling of romance of life, the song makes me melt, so soft, takes me away, exquisite, well done Paul! T Leckner, Montreal
Seen him play this one a fair few times but this version is certainly top-notch. Kudos. The song was first released as track 11 on his1997 album "Heavy Soul." Lyrics: Gentle rain, here it comes again Rattling 'round your window, threatening pain Coming on like a friend but you know better than Yesterday that held you by a different hand Hail and stone and all that's gone When everything that passes cuts to the bone Turning like a wheel, dragging a heavy stone A weight that ties you down that you will never own Strange to see a paper smile on thee When once you moved and light the room for us all to be Now if I could be the sun I'd shine in your life If I could be the rain I'd rain from your eyes And I'd wash away the emptiness you feel inside
I think i saw Paul on this toir, Edgar was great on bass. This song reminds me of how much i really loved Heavy Soul; i was initially disappointed with the album when it was released but in fact its one of the most distinctive, passionate and his best and from a great era for music.
Heavy soul the album and title track are my favourites from the man himself. That album had a bit of everything and nothing after that really had the same energy....for me anyway
Paul..please release a live CD of your best live tunes!..it must include "above the clouds" with the gorgeous black female bass player (forgot her name)..shout to the top..my ever-changing moods..headstart to happiness and you're the best thing !..thanks☺🎶🎶
Amazing showmanship and sound quality on this recording, and those world weary lyrics show a man fully aware of his foibles and place in the world. This is an amazing version which totally transforms it from the very mediocre album cut . There is a big nod to the influence of Curtis Mayfield in Weller's guitar playing here .
I keep coming back to this. Whole band is on fire 🎸❤️
A national treasure. No one comes close to his consistency, quality and relevance. No one close.
"Turning like a wheel dragging a heavy stone, a weight that ties you down that you will never own" Don't tell me this man isn't a Poet.
The Jam were fantastic, but thank god he finished the Jam to produce classics like this
Great version of a great tune. Was blown away when he played this many moons ago at the AVLC.❤
What a gem. The best fuckin band in the world ❤❤❤
I stood next to the speakers and lost myself in the pure bliss of his talent. Forever Weller ❤
…man, this is good! ❤
Steve White on drums, a gentleman and a scholar 🌐🍻✌🏽
Oh hells yes
He is absolutely the best one of them all. Live long and prosper Sir Paul Weller
My favorite Weller live performance bar none. Never get tired of hearing the new direction they took this to
Simply amazing. I keep coming back.
Mind blowing.
I have this bookmarked. I can't tell you how many times I come back to listen/watch. It is good for the soul.

Me too this track is so addictive
Can't stop listening to this. What an assured piece of axe mastery
Just another masterpiece by the master of music from the British Isles... the Modfather!
It's a pity the album version doesn't go into this territory. This tune is amazing.
It's on the live from Albert Hall CD/ DVD mate.
Superb version
So true. And yet tge allbum version is great.
But this is exceptional.
@@paullockwood7219 I've never been able to find that, alas. Might not be available where I live.

Hidden gem!
Edgar jones , bass masterclass
Edgar Summertime (Jones) . He once played bass for Johnny Marr too.
I will never get bored of this

I'd say he peaked with heavy soul
Heavy soul always been my favourite Weller album loved it from the day it was released
Heavy Soul has aged so gracefully. Certainly much better than a lot of its stable mates from that year.
Wow amazing version of this song!!
I just think this is brilliant! I liked the song but it really comes to life in this version
And may i add the guitar, i just close my eyes and some other reality descends around me, you know how to carry me away with this gem ETL
I like his body and how he uses it when he's performing and I love his constantly changing hair....thats always some version of the original .
Absolutely superb...think I had this as a b side back in '97. This version is fab.
Heavy soul is my favourite Weller album this live version is better than the album version though
Immaculate 👌🏿
Another string to this guy.s bow!! Great sound!!
This is a good song, I wish there was the full version of this on the live CD disc.
Paul..please release a live CD of your best live tunes!..it must include "above the clouds" with the gorgeous black female bass player (forgot her name)..shout to the top..my ever-changing moods..headstart to happiness and you're the best thing !..thanks☺🎶🎶

Way to show how you can stretch an under 3-minute cut to 8 minutes. Genius.

Topper!! = )
He has to do this on a live album sometime
5 people need to lean into the light
20 B&H in the top pocket
Dreamy...
A great song but it would of been better to hear all of it on the CD. I've liked his solo albums brilliant.
Is this from Live At The Albert Hall DVD?

What a great tune for a pole dance!
What can you say.!
