There's a reason Paul Weller is so respected by his fans despite his shifts in musical styles over the years. Weller follows his heart and his tunes stay true to the times and his age. I first heard him in 1977, when I bought a British import of a 45 and later an album called In The City by The Jam. Inspired by The Who, the music of The Jam was infused with urgency and melody. Then Weller wanted more from music and began The Style Council with a bit of R&B, ballads and even jazz. For nearly 25 years, Weller has been recording under his own name. Now he has new songs for us all and an album called Saturns Pattern. Here at the Tiny Desk he brings this humble collection of songs acoustically and includes a tune from what may be his best known record, his 1995 album Stanley Road. It's a pretty heartwarming moment - especially for longtime followers of his shifting but consistent music.
Set List
"Dusk Til Dawn"
"I'm Where I Should Be"
"Out of the Sinking"
"Going My Way"

Surely a Weller 2024 NPR session is deserved
I wish Paul was a huge act in the U.S.....Would love to see him more often in Chicago....Americans have no idea what they are missing with Paul Weller...
I couldn't agree more with this.
@@ChrisHayworth100 nor me love everything he does. His voice and music takes me to a very special place in my heart
I so agree, but at least we get to see him play smaller venues. At least I hope we will post COVID.
Totally agree Brad! He does have a following in your country, but as you say not massively known really. I never understand it either 😕
agree, but his band is pissing about on npr 🤣
This man carried me through my early 20s to my 30s. He sang my life to me. I saw him at Glastonbury and that was that. Thank you Paul.
Proud I was the kid in a class of over 400 who wore a The Jam shirt.
The mans a legend. A superb acoustic mini set. The voice gets better with age too. Never stop doing what your doing PW
Sorry, he is entirely derivative and cliche and rips off others far better
@@chrisgreene2623 Your deluded. Over 40 years and still at the top of his game. Universally recognised as one of Britain’s best song writers. All musicians use influence from others in their work. You obviously see that as “ripping off”. As my original comment states “the man is a legend”. No matter what your opinion, that is a fact
@@chrisgreene2623arguably all white "rock" musicians are derivative amd copied others, doesn't mean they should be dismissed entirely. I don't think Paul Weller has ever hidden who his musical influences are.
Mr. Weller is just like fine wine, only gets better!!!
As long as Paul Weller is on this earth everything should be just fine 👌💚
Out of the sinking ***** so emotional and inspirational ... what a song ! Paul Weller ever so true and brilliant ... Respect
Mr weller your a legend.
Omg the stripped down mostly acoustic version of "Out From The Sinking!" Beautiful beyond words. And Paul's VOICE.❤️❤️❤️
His first solo album, self-titled, is still my favourite among his many good ones. Such a beautiful record.
I agree.
It's flawless. A masterpiece of song craft, playing, production, everything... soul!
rory toomey indeed... ☀️
@@storiestellr It just turned 28 yesterday! Released Sept 1st 1992. Our bodies have replaced every cell at least 4 times since it came out :)
rory toomey ...28?? jesus... I just felt four times older 😂🙄
Paul Weller & Acoustic Guitars 👌🏼
Love listening to Paul while we are on lockdown. Keeping us positive with his music. Covid 19 pandemic 2020 won’t beat us. Stay safe everyone 🌈😷🙏🏻

Yesterday and today always nr 1!
LOVE Paul Weller’s voice and The Jam…. Soundtrack of my high school years.
Out of the sinking sounds like some old Soul Classic here...weller is a master songsmith ✌🏾
Beautiful ❤❤❤
I love everything he's done.😁
Amazing!!!!!
Brilliant.
Absolutely amazing arrangement ✨️
Great little session with talented fellas
'Out of the sinking' is masterful, this acoustic arrangement really works well :-)
In love with all the arrangements for Out Of The Sinking these last years.

class
Stunning amazing
Lovely version of Out of the Sinking
Amazing! He's so good! :)
Absolutely superb
Good musical memories, Paul Weller.
Thumbed down by 13 fans of the Jam who still can't let go
Great set from a great artist whose only misstep is not appearing in Chicago nearly enough! I hope to see him here some day.
Yes !!!!!! Man love to see him at the Auditorium
Very nice!
I really like the heartwarming acoustic version of "Dusk Til Dawn".
Superb
Wow didn't see this...mad good
THE BEST!
Amazing. If you've never heard of Paul Weller check out Stanley Road and any Jam album to learn some important British music history.
All Mod Cons, Setting Sons, Our Favourite Shop, Wild Wood and 22 dreams would be my choices!
The Style Council
dont forget the style council
Or any Style Council album
Stripped back and beautiful .whats else is there to say.❤️
One thing i see straight out is what a team they are, thats hard to find to get your tunes across.. fantastic
Amazing
I’m where I should be brilliant love this man what a legend
Why have I never seen PW's Tiny Desk performance? It's a great find!
Dude, Tiny Desk let a musician play that doesn't suck? Today is a good day.
i dont normaly sit and listen to it all but that was realy nice! he looked at peace with him self. they all seemed like they were having fun. how it should be.. Free
Paul Weller on NPR Tiny Desk Concert!
The other day I was listening to a Dallas radio station and they were announcing celebrity birthdays. Paul's name was read and there was a debate with 3 DJ's over who he was. Most thought he was an actor. Finally someone looked him up and then said, why is he even on celebrity birthdays??😳 Absolutely shameful.
Proper super group with Weller, Peter Buck, Clem Burke, Steve Craddock, Tom Meaghan and Bradley Wiggins.
Takes me back to my London living days, had so forgotten just how good he is (once at a small wedding in north London where he was a guest..a good night)
Sweet~
what. a. set. the man is a legend
Yeah seeing him At The Sydney Opera House
If they had started with Out Of The Sinking this would have 2 Million views. Sublime
Very nice, chaps. The test of a great song: does it stand up when played on an acoustic guitar? Answer: 4 great songs.
🦅❤️❤️❤️🕊
👏👏👏✌
🤘🤘
👍❤
Has he developed a new genre?? sounds like it!
is that the drummer from Jr loaded, what a legend😮
ANDY 😍
Out of the sinking he almost sounds like Richie Havens
6:15 Out of the Sinking
I need the Lyrics of Dusk Til Dawn. Thanks
The song at 2:00 sounds like Christmas carol to me.
We have four guitars?.
Tiny desk is never to be again it appears now, hope i am wrong.
Anyway, very nice.
Reminiscent of Melanie Safka - Candles in the Rain.
I Lovd.e both artists, no criticism.
They're both true to themselves and not the music industry.
6 players! Can't help but thinking The Jam would have had a bit fuller sound with at least ONE more player.
He is a lot better than this. True he experiments with different styles but this current one does not show him at his best. Having said that I am a huge fan of Paul Weller. Congratulations to NPR for getting him on
Along canal plu
What happened to Andy? (Lewis)
how much can you love someone you never met? Fucking boatloads.
04:20 the guy who looks like Lennon gets the line wrong... goes to sing 'reach for the sky...' then changes to 'no reason why' you can't put that one past ol' Fadi
Paul at 9:33 giving the lads a bollocking hahah
I know! Can only make out a bit of what PW says. The conga player looks embarrassed.
Jose Feliciano looks quite young here.
Tiny desk? You 'avin that?
Man, Pilgrim is such a great compliment to Paul Weller's lead vocals. Not to mention, whoever the sound engineer here is, he/she's really good.
He really isn't.
is it guigsy mcguigan ex Oasis on bass? he looks like .
If it isn't he's got a pretty good body double. Oasis were idiots getting rid of him though so I'm kinda glad he's doing better than Liam and Noel.
Good job as usual paul, but you didnt look comfortable playing that massive Gibson.
I love Paul, but didn't really get into this. Not sure if it was the set list or the setting or if they were just having a rough day. Just didn't feel it.
the kexp acoustic session is better than this one
One too many guitars!
Jamming. Heart of England.
Andy Goncalves????? You mean Andy Crofts surely.....
It's his real name :)
@@888macky888 Not many people know they're actors.... Paul Weller played by John William Weller, Andy Crofts - Andy Gonclaves, Andy Lewis played by Bernard Breslaw, Steve Craddock - Sid James, Sreve Pilgrim - Scott Pilgrim and last but not least Ben Gordelier played by Orville the Duck
Jesus 😳 so dull no fire in the old reptile
that Modfather tag is pathetic as we know, this lad is the most music obsessed white soul boy on this planet, for decades, keeps on keeping on
Basic pub band
C.J. Friel I'm not too impressed with the song writing. They play well enough though.
I just find the guy a constant bore since 1983
you can't leave this empty Blah blah, you're just being a precious "basic" princess Paul Weller robot. Deal with it.
C.J. Friel Saw him in Brixton a few years back and I had a similar opinion but I have to admit he was outstanding, no bullshit at all he was a human jukebox. I do like his earlier stuff though much better than his later stuff, but its because I was there at the time and it had the punk attitude and energy that I was into and still love. Great songwriter though I have to admit.
C.J. Friel Sure , if you didn't get what is behind , it tells more about you making this remark...
Paul Weller one hit wonder the rest forgettable and he knows it
Let’s hear your catalog Legend ????
What hit are you thinking of?.
You have no idea what you're talking about.........
