- This is 2 part video of my custom bioactive vivarium build inspired by the floating mountains in the movie, Avatar. I need to let this cure in sections so once that's all finished I'll work on part 2 which will be more exciting. I'll be adding a false bottom, clean up crews, plants and a fogger. I hope you all enjoy this build and get inspired to make your own custom bioactive vivarium!

Subscribed! I really would like to see part 2. I'm researching building a bioactive vivarium and I want to have a stable and mature 10 gall ecosystem complete with custom micro mesh lid ready for my lasius ants when the queen's first workers hatch. A layered tank like this with moss or ficus ivy for ladders or even just leaving the islands as escapes for other inhabitants would be amazing. Have you ever considered miniature carpet forming type orchids? Some almost look like something between ficus ivy and moss.
Are you going to make a 2nd part for this? It's a very interesting concept; I'd love to see more!

What kind of wire did you use to hold them together?
I used regular baling wire that i found on a job site but i'd recommend using a stainless steel or galvanized wire since mine was rusting out(not good for animals) You'd have to silicone the shit out of it and make sure none is exposed to moisture if you went with just regular baling wire. Learn from my mistake.

This is amazing! Where do you get your sticks for your other terrariums?
I go into local pet stores quite often and when they have sales on their dried grape vine branches I buy a few. They're usually like $10-12 regular price but sometimes you can find them for like $6. You can also just go the beach and find some cool looking drift wood but you'll have to boil it in hot water to kill any mites and to get the salt out.

Quick question I got an Africa mantis not eat do this mean getting ready to molt?? help please as it'd first time having a mantis and what other things can you feed them many thanks Aaron
Aaron Squirrell How long has it not been eating? Is it just hanging in one spot without moving? Odds are its getting ready to molt, so just keep the humidity up and everything should be fine.
flightless fruit flies when they're nymphs then after L3-L4 you can bump them up to house flies and wax worms. I'd avoid crickets and mealworms since they can actually kill your mantid.
Ye lol, that's happened to me before. I had this mantis since it was born. When it finished its last molt and its skin dried. I put in like 5 adult crickets in for food. Then in the morning you knew, I ate the crickets ate the mantis. TRIGGERED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow great build! I am going to get a female orchid mantis soon and will start with a jar Vivarium. Do you suppose you could make a video or give me some tips to make the mantid not only happy, but aswell as making it look truly attractive?
Hello need help my dead leaf just had a molt but one the front arms is on one side but it do move just look like it has not set right is there any thing I can do???
and will it die now???
Aaron Squirrell I've never had that happen before but I think he could get better after another molt. make sure to check what humidity and temperature your mantis needs, that will make molting easier on them. I bet you could hand feed him even if he's stuck with one bad arm. I don't think he'll die as long as you keep him fed and hydrated. I hope everything works out though.
