Props to you for doing these videos the right way. So many people just build based on hat they like.. completely missing what the animals need to be happy and healthy. Keep up the good work.
I'm glad you mention things like expecting mold to occur. I had some nice drift wood I collected and sanitized for use in a small closed terarrium. It started molding after a week, so I thought I had messed up the sanitization, I ended up redoing the terrarium and trashing the wood.
What I do is introduce the inhabitant 1 week after the mold leaves the vivarium. I do this so my inhabitant won't get poisoned by the mold, and so the inhabitant can be introduced at a period where the springtail population is high.
Been binge watching your videos for over an hour now, randomly stumbled upon one of your terrarium vids. Keep up the good work, I really love your channel! Definitely won a new sub here
Hey everyone! I am basically at 20k subs and I just want to thank you all so much! I am honestly shocked at how quickly this channel is growing. Expect content like this and what I have been putting out to continue. I also want to apologize that some terrarium updates haven't happened yet. I have about 20 projects going on right now and inevitably those fell by the wayside. I do intend to continue making updates, but I might cut out the 1 month updates. What do you all think? Also I'm trying to juggle all of this while holding a full time job, finishing up the new website and spending time with my family, fiance, etc. Finally I am curious. Which sounds more appealing, a nano paludarium or nano planted aquarium (7 gallons)? First one to 50 likes will make the decision! As always, thanks for watching. I truly appreciate you all. - Tanner
SerpaDesign Hate to intrude here, but have you thought of doing a carnivorous plant paludarium/ terrarium? that would be so awesome if you could do one of those if you haven't done already!!
I would be VERY interested in learning how to build a carnivorous terrarium! I know that carnivorous plants all have different requirements so I'd like to know which ones can be planted with which.
I'm so happy you could adopt Henry from folks who couldn't keep him. You gave him a great home too. I like to see that. You put a lot of work into Henry's home. Great Job.

just wanted to say thank you for this video. i watched it a few times and used what i learned to build my own crested gecko vivarium. it turned out amazing. thanks again.
That's amazing...you know you could even sell these bad boys (with care instructions, of course). I know I'd buy one off you in a heartbeat. Anyhow, keep up the awesome work man. Subscribed for sure.
I just got my first crested yesterday and I'm already loving him! This is what I now aspire to be able to do for him at some point in the future. I'll definitely be referring back to this video when the time comes to do my own build :) Thank you for the video and Henry looks so happy in his new home!
All I did with mine is cover up some of the acrylic vertical enclosure vents to increase humidity, put a very thick layer of coconut substrate, and establish a very large colony of dairy cow isopods as a very effective clean up crew as well as secondary food source, it's a done deal. I use those Dollar Store plastic toothbrush holders that have suction cups for their food and water, they work great and save me lots of money.
Work fast with silicone and foam as it dries fast! Wearing gloves is a must! I didn't notice a mention on bacteria, which is needed for full circle bio-active setup.
Wow thats one of my favorite builds thank you Ive never thought of using a tank like that to make a taill tank! I feel so stupid I have been rescuing and taking in just about any type of Pets my entire life I've had so many different kinds of animals. Hi SerpaDesign . Lovely crestie and a wonderful viv! I would personally add some vines (I think there are some by Lucky Reptile but I'm not sure) just for some extra stuff for him to climb on. Mine love them! Also, thankyou for this channel and these videos. I made my mum a mini jar terrarium for her birthday and she loved it so much!! Thanks again!
That's one happy Henry! Awesome techniques! I just found you and am already subbed... I'm very impressed with your understanding of simulated natural environments as well as the requirements of reptiles, like Henry. Good show, mate! Keep up the excellent craftmanship and naturalism!
This changes mine I would like to do so many ideas are in my head now. I have a crocodile gecko so it doesn't need to be huge, though rocky is there main liking
ZAwesome!!! Did you attached mini screws too and thru the lexan sheet thru the frame??? Or you just used the silicone and that will hold the lexan sheet to the frame just perfect???? because the 2 long sides of my 20 gallon frame is not big enough to put screws thru it,I don't know if I should risk it????
Plz add silicone on the glass before you put the spray foam in makes it look better when looking at the tank from the side.. also silicone inside the flower pots with also drain tubes coming out of them to drain.. besides all that looks very cool
You know, if you wanted to collect all the loose can put a plastic bag in a vacuum hose and make sure you secure it so it doesn't suck all of it in but wrapping it with a rubber band. Then when u suck all of it up you can take the bag out :-) if it doesn't make since I'm sorry it's hard to explain
what kinda silicone did you use? how much did you use? how long did you wait for it to cure? and is there anything that needs to be done for the smell to leave the tank .I built one be for but the smell of the silicone stayed in it for about 2 months be for I decided to take it apart it was a waist since I did not feel it to be safe to keep athena in the tank. I had the tank outside so i feel like it was not that it did not have well ventilation. the time I am not sure if it was enough but a lot of people say it takes them like 2 weeks.
I love this kind of vivarium and thought about building something similar for my first ever created gecko. But what happens if I have to clean the background? I don’t suppose there’s any way to get it back out ?
Does the silicone you use have mold inhibitor? I’m trying to find black silicone, but all I can find is the “mold free” type. I’ve built/modded/resealed aquariums before and you have to use the silicone without it. If you’re not using the “mold free” kind, do you know if it’s ok to use in a terrarium?
I used GE Silicone II in this video. It says mold free on it, but a lot of people have used it with no issues. Additionally I have resealed several aquariums using the stuff with no issues whatsoever (most notably a 90 and 125g). Apparently people have contacted GE about it and claim that it's exactly the same as the other stuff. I don't think that's actually true since it's not an acid cure, but it's something to consider. Finally silicone by nature is "mold resistant," so I suspect that's what it's actually referring to. Regardless if you are concerned with using this product simply buy a tube of aquarium silicone like you've used before. I can only tell you that from 12 years of personal experience with the stuff, it seems to be just fine.
Hello, long time follower. First time commenter. I know in this video you did the ground a little different, Just wondering with the way you set up your substrates, say for frogs. Do you make them to set and forget or do you regularly replace the substrate? Weekly or monthly?

Right
Better than a lot of owners, but with this size of a vivarium certainly far away from the best owner.

It's a very common occurrence. Usually goes away in a few weeks on its own.
What I do is introduce the inhabitant 1 week after the mold leaves the vivarium. I do this so my inhabitant won't get poisoned by the mold, and so the inhabitant can be introduced at a period where the springtail population is high.
