It has some rather unique lines and creases that actually work really well together, the front and rear light signature gives the car a more upmarket look too. Even more surprising, the interior looks fairly premium also! Fair play Suzuki, fair play. Shame about the small boot and not so great range figures though, bit of a let down there.

Thank you for the preview. If you do not like the handle “city car” (I don’t) you might coin the phrase”country car”. This has a solid use case for anywhere in the countryside which has bad lanes and B roads in winter, muddy fields and tracks, a farm to get round, an emergency to get to in all weathers. It does some of the job the old Landrover Defender did before it got too huge and complicated. As the review suggests price will be important but Landrover have left a gaping space where the old Defender used to be, so maybe the 4WD version can be a bit more expensive than you might think. I think this might do something which other EVs simply do not.
Its a handsome looking car, really liked the concept and this seems to have stayed true to the original design, looks nice inside too. Let's wait and see what the range figures actually are when launched. Suzuki knows how to create a proper small off road workhorse.
The only off-roaders were the (old) Grand Vitara and the Jimny. The AWD ones (Vitara, S-Cross) can be taken off-road but for anything more than light off-roading you need to modify the suspension (lift, shocks, etc), and a bunch of other things too (these cars don't have any rated recovery points - and you definitely need some for off-roading, and of course also no way at all to mount a winch, etc). And, the last thing you'd ever want to use off-road is an EV.

EVs don't consume while idling and can regenerate what's lost going uphill. Distances are far less too, so all in all range anxiety isn't really a problem when off-roading.
I see some Citroen eC3, Jeep Avenger, Ssangyong Tivoli and Alfa Romeo Junior in there, but it looks good. It doesn't really stand out, but it's a decent EV with the option for AWD.
Huge bonnet, no frunk. What's under there? Also whatever piece of plastic trim they have low down on the front needs to go for better approach angles. Off roader with no spare wheel/tyre. What are they thinking? Get a Jimmny to follow you with a spare?
Ah yes, work with Toyota, that manufacturer famous for their game-changing efficient BEVs. FFS. Why don't they just get Hyundai or Kia to electrify the Jimny for them, that would've been a better plan. This car is DOA.
Suzuki doesn't have close contact with either you've mentioned - they're Korean companies who's basically the same underneath if you look a bit deep, and they have no interest working with Suzuki much either (they are willing to work with Toyota though, if you've heard of the racing festival both held in Korea a few weeks ago). Suzuki has closer ties to Toyota, which doesn't have any trust in making EVs. Don't even say Mazda or Subaru or Nissan or Mitsubishi either, Mazda is kinda lazy on this regard aswell despite reviving the rotaries to be a range extender for EVs, while Subaru is just following Toyota's game, Mitsubishi is basically a zombie now, and Nissan... Well, you'd be hard pressed to find many Kicks and Leafs out in the wild now. If there's any good manufacturer that can help with good EVs, they'd have to look way over seas to either Lucid or Rivian.
What a beautiful car... the back side design is a bit strange, but why not... I'm looking for small cars... very small and powerfull full cars even for 2 people like a motorbike shape. Not like a Smart ForTwo.
Well, you're not going to be invited back for the next one! One of my principles when choosing an EV recently was not to take a car that was that brand's first or only model - I wanted them to have some experience with them before I considered buying one. I think this illustrates my point!
Regarding charging -- it is unfair to judge charge time against charge rate. As an EV reviewer, you should already know that EV makers always quote peak charge rate, but in reality, most if not all EVs achieve that maybe only for a few minutes. Next, this car has a relatively small battery, so the average charge rate will be quite low. Therefore, to satisfy your demands, the car would need a bigger battery, which will be more costly, and less appealing to the buyers, etc....
Hmmm. The Citroen eC4 can charge from 10-80% in 26 mins despite having a lower peak rate. This will add around 181 miles of official range whereas the Suzuki will take 4 mins longer to add just 136 miles of range. If anything, it’s Suzuki who are trying to impress with their 150kW peak, not Electrifying. Saying you need a bigger battery to have better recharging times just doesn’t ring true when you look at some of the Suzuki’s competitors. It’s just another out of date from a Japanese manufacturer who will profess that EV’s are selling well because they make crap EV’s
The range is simply not enough when you think what it could drop down to in cold winter weather...and the lack of boot space is a disappointment. This is a big shame because overall the actual design is appealing and practical.
Oh, Nicola, you chose your outfit for this review to match the car! Can't fool us! The specs are lacking. The brown bits are nice, but… way too much piano black for an otherwise useful console. I wonder how your impressions will change once you get to drive it…?
This is going to be the basis of the bZ3X. Considering how expensive the new facelifted ICE Vitara is this version electric Vitara will be comfortably over £30K.
@@oliverstemp9132 Marked up Mk4 Jimny's sitting in the dealer lot meanwhile because everyone hyped it up way too much nobody can afford it anymore without complaining the price is not worth it anymore:
It has got a blade battery - that is a BIG plus - you can rapid-charge it "to death", therefore having less deprivation of the battery in the long run. However when it comes to that Suzuki is late to the party - that has somewhat to do with japanese carmakers being conservate when it comes to EVs. They will wait to see what other carmakers do before deciding "to go full Tesla". The car looks cool to me imho - shouldn't this make the Suzuki the first japanese carmaker to dipping their toes in the EV-water? Albeit Toyota (and Subaru) half-assing it with their bZ4x (Solterra)....? It will be very popular in Norway depending on the price, although we love everything 4x4.
Marketing has understood that nowadays you can't sell a charging time over 30 minutes. So they are just cheating when reducing the percentages. Often that is 20-80% instead of the usual 10-80%. But 15-70%, wow, I've never heard those numbers. That's just an incredibly poor charging performance. If they were brave and honest, they would say the 10-80% charging time is 45 minutes. Which was the norm 10 years ago. But that wouldn't sell.
It has some slightly (new model) Dacia Duster looks.... The brown interior looks good. Audi did a study decades ago, and it found shades of brown in car interiors promoted a more relaxing feeling while you drove..... Make of that what you will.... There didn't appear to be any under knee/under thigh support when you sat in the back Nicola. I can't imagine it being too comfortable on longer trips....
Suzuki and Mitsubishi were very similar in essence that I’m pissed we in us abandoned Suzuki, cuz Mitsubishi ain’t it at all 😭 damn I had no idea Suzuki could pop off with modern design
With such a low range it should be cheaper than the leaf to get buyers interested, because if there is one main concern customers have about EV's, that would be range.
Don't knock it NICOLA your in Milan You could be on an ice rink in Birmingham In respect of the boot you can't see it when you are driving. Range anxiety is built in Making it up as they go along a bit like the brown interior back to the 70s
Suzuki is only doing it because they want to have an EV so they have the rights to say "here, we have an electric car now. Happy? Good. We'll be continuing to make the Jimny and Swift as usual, don't bother us anymore." If you notice, all Japanese car companies seem skeptical with EVs and isn't giving their full might in developing EVs. At most, for example Toyota, will only go as far as PHEVs and Hydrogen, while not giving much thought in their EV (coughcough bZ4x)
If it starts at £30k, it has a chance of selling, in spite of mediocre EV bits. The interior is more interesting than the exterior, but you are right that screen surround is rubbish though. As for not making a BEV Jimny, yet more proof that that Japanese manufacturers have lost the plot. If Suzuki think that a crappy combustion engine is what makes a Jimny any good, they are clueless. A BEV Jimny would be awesome, a BEV soft-top Samurai would be even better
Not making the jimny an EV is just leaving money on the table. They could update the interior. Stick a 45kw battery in it and sell millions of the things.
Not mentioned in the video but you'll also be able to buy this later on as a Toyota, since they're too lazy to develop EVs. Judging by the concepts they'll just swap the front bumper out and call it a day, like a reverse of the Suzuki Across.
Feels like a ZEV mandate compliance car. As Nicola says it'll need to be cheap. I also agree that Suzuki are missing a trick by not doing a Jimny EV. It would sell far better than the Vitara that's for sure.
It appears Suzuki has copied Toyota’s homework and produced an EV that is already behind the curve even before it’s been launched. Sounds like they plan to sit back, watch the sales not hit their internal target and then claim that EVs don’t sell so they’re sticking to hybrids…..

I see some Citroen eC3, Jeep Avenger, Ssangyong Tivoli and Alfa Romeo Junior in there, but it looks good. It doesn't really stand out, but it's a decent EV with the option for AWD.
I'd love an electric Jimny! 👏👏
I like the look if the price is competitive then it could be a winner 😊
Well, you're not going to be invited back for the next one! One of my principles when choosing an EV recently was not to take a car that was that brand's first or only model - I wanted them to have some experience with them before I considered buying one. I think this illustrates my point!
I like the interior too.
As you say pricing is going to be critical to successful sales
Hybrid is the future, not electric
Ehm no.
The range is simply not enough when you think what it could drop down to in cold winter weather...and the lack of boot space is a disappointment.
This is a big shame because overall the actual design is appealing and practical.
And EV Jimny with a small motor at each wheel would be the best off roader on the planet
So given the back seat space is so tight and the boot is more of a box, it’s an utter waste of even bothering to go to the dealer to look at
Oh, Nicola, you chose your outfit for this review to match the car! Can't fool us! The specs are lacking. The brown bits are nice, but… way too much piano black for an otherwise useful console. I wonder how your impressions will change once you get to drive it…?
Its the Lexus NX, right?
This is going to be the basis of the bZ3X. Considering how expensive the new facelifted ICE Vitara is this version electric Vitara will be comfortably over £30K.
Suzukis are all cheap
They're not.
@@oliverstemp9132 Marked up Mk4 Jimny's sitting in the dealer lot meanwhile because everyone hyped it up way too much nobody can afford it anymore without complaining the price is not worth it anymore:
They just wanted to reveal it before mahindra BE 9e and BE 6e😂
Yes, if it’s £30,000 or less I would definitely consider it.
Looking forward to the e Swift and e Ignis
The only reason I watched this video till the end is because of her... Nice green color btw.
Can we just standardise 20-80% or something it feels like charging drops off a cliff after 70%
Marketing has understood that nowadays you can't sell a charging time over 30 minutes.
@ we need a mandated norm
It has some slightly (new model) Dacia Duster looks.... The brown interior looks good. Audi did a study decades ago, and it found shades of brown in car interiors promoted a more relaxing feeling while you drove..... Make of that what you will.... There didn't appear to be any under knee/under thigh support when you sat in the back Nicola. I can't imagine it being too comfortable on longer trips....
VW Id3 offers 80l more of boot space for the same lenght…
I've just read the rest of the comments, it appears more people are here to see Nicola than the Suzuki! 🤣
Not a fan of the car, but loving the dump truck though Nic - my word 😉
Suzuki and Mitsubishi were very similar in essence that I’m pissed we in us abandoned Suzuki, cuz Mitsubishi ain’t it at all 😭 damn I had no idea Suzuki could pop off with modern design
Shouldn't it be call an e-tara?
With such a low range it should be cheaper than the leaf to get buyers interested, because if there is one main concern customers have about EV's, that would be range.
Made in India. Hope it is built better than the Nissan Micra, which they ruined.
Very cool car
Don't knock it NICOLA your in Milan You could be on an ice rink in Birmingham
In respect of the boot you can't see it when you are driving.
Range anxiety is built in
Making it up as they go along a bit like the brown interior back to the 70s
Suzuki too? No doubt about it now, EVs ARE the future.
Suzuki is only doing it because they want to have an EV so they have the rights to say "here, we have an electric car now. Happy? Good. We'll be continuing to make the Jimny and Swift as usual, don't bother us anymore."
If you notice, all Japanese car companies seem skeptical with EVs and isn't giving their full might in developing EVs. At most, for example Toyota, will only go as far as PHEVs and Hydrogen, while not giving much thought in their EV (coughcough bZ4x)
No word on price yet?
Huh. Not a good omen - this needs to be reasonably priced. We don't want another Across debacle.
Looks good
if you cover the suzuki sign, we know it's a suzuki because it says vitara underneath
Looks like the Alfa Romeo Junior
The reliable EV 's ARE COMING
Suzuki should have an ICE equivalent of this one under NEXA and name it Vitara, that way it can sit between Vitara Brezza and Grand Vitara
Not making the jimny an EV is just leaving money on the table. They could update the interior. Stick a 45kw battery in it and sell millions of the things.
Refreshing, that's what I wouldn't say. Not enough differentiation, unless the off-road capabilities are proven.
Thank you 🙏
Not mentioned in the video but you'll also be able to buy this later on as a Toyota, since they're too lazy to develop EVs. Judging by the concepts they'll just swap the front bumper out and call it a day, like a reverse of the Suzuki Across.
Can't remember anything of this size with 4-wheel-drive option. Will shortlist this at least.
Feels like a ZEV mandate compliance car. As Nicola says it'll need to be cheap.
I also agree that Suzuki are missing a trick by not doing a Jimny EV. It would sell far better than the Vitara that's for sure.
It's not a Frunk, it's a Froot (Front Boot!) 😂
The Vitara has suffered since Suzuki left the American market. They don't have big enough engines to make a big enough SUV.
