Hey I was an intern at McLaren while they were working on this car. The “UFO” bit on top is for channeling air to the rear wing. It used to have more of a shark fin on top of that, but they ditched that because it didn’t really do anything aero wise.

Gordon Murray is a man to be remembered as the greatest designers not only for cars, but all for all.
Its dry weight is 1,399 kg, but the GMA T.50's wet weight is 986 kg, and it has that delicious Cosworth V12 that revs to 12,100 rpm. They're all still way behind Gordon Murray...

I disagree regarding the design. In my view, it looks quite appealing and would be even more striking in a darker color. The McLaren Senna faced similar design critiques but has since become a classic.
McLaren seem to have a history of releasing cars in specs that do them no favours I remember looking at the 720s press release and not being a fan then seeing it in person and loving it

The suspension components were an eye-opener for me; they look more like bones than traditional components. Mother nature and evolution make some of the most spectacularly strong, efficient shapes out there, so I'm really happy to see McLaren using nature's algorithms to make the W1 quite literally an organic machine... that's so sick!!

The Saudi oil kings would see the wealthy business man who buys this car as poor.

Umm, educational. My opinion of the W1 has improved considerably following this video. Even if I’m still not enamored by the nondescript styling. The engineering’s great though, and Gullwing doors! Oh and really nicely styled wheels too. It’s actually a shame they’re black (which I usually like) and not silver allowing the styling to standout more.
This is awesome and thank god this is not the final build cause around 12:10, when they open the rear wing it did not deploy amazingly. The left side had a delay in it's deployment please fix it this should be perfect.
I think there’s something to be said for the launch spec, having the two tone black and orange will likely affect the perception of lines, there’s every chance it’ll look better with different options.
God bless McLaren for focusing on light weight, stellar driving dynamics, and keeping it RWD.
