☝️ We've demoed the EFNOTE 3X electronic drums, and we've demoed Toontrack's epic sounding EZ Drummer 3, now we're showing off BOTH TOGETHER 🤯✌️
For this demo the EFNOTE 3X kit was hooked up to an audio/midi interface via midi out, EZD3 was set up as a plugin in Logic Pro Audio on a Macbook Pro. We then used the midi mapping preset for ATV aDrums, which worked great with some slight modifications / remappings 🍸🥁
Everything you see / hear in the demo is available from www.drum-tec.com, you can also get any custom kit modification of your choice!

Thank you for this beautiful video!
At this point, nothing too suprising: Killer drums, killer sound, killer drummer!👌🤟🥁 Let's Rock!
Thank you Guilhem! :-D
Gorgeous drums, great playing as always Ralph! 🎉
Thanks dude!
Just purchased EZD3 and I can't wait to try it out this weekend. As always Toontrack has great sounds and GUI.
Hey Mark, great have fun with EZD3 & happy drumming!
Gosh perfect timing. I was looking into VSTs for this exact setup. Does this have round robin on the samples for snare/toms? I did not hear much machine gunning at all (if any). Sounds so good!
Does it have the cymbal muting samples as well? Can you mix/match kit parts?
Thank you for these great demos!
Great sounds and druming as always.
Thank you!
Drummer level:
beginner, intermediate, pro , world class drumtecTV
Sounding excellent on this video, Ralf!
Thank you guys! :)
Hi, is there a guide on a correct setting of the EFNOTE 3x with EzDrummer 3?
Thank you 🎉😎👍🏻
Top Demo as always Ralf. 🙂
Thank you pal!
Amazing attack!!
Thank you for sharing. I just bought the EFNOTE 3x and the default EFNOTE Map preset does not allow for choke on cymbals
What a great idea for a low-cost option for excellent sounding drums with fantastic playability!
Wow 😃
Awesome as usual Ralf. They should just pack that VST into a module and sell it like the Mimic Pro.
It would cost more than just building a small PC or getting a laptop :)
Thank you Paul! I think it's actually really complex & difficult to do all this in a standalone sound module unit, but I agree it would be great to have it :)
Mitch the pearl mimic also costs more than most gaming laptops. If toontrack made one and either made it $1500 but you had to pay for expansions like they do with ez3. Or if they make it $2500 I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
Did you monitor the EZDrummer 3 midi sounds in real time whilst playing? Was there any perceivable latency? Do you think this would be the same for the Efnote 7 kit with Superior Drummer 3? Thanks so much! 😊
i found the module sounds are more dynamic than VSTs- have you observed that? Or am I not setting the parameters properly?
Great Channel and drumming! Did you use a preset mapping in EZ DRUMMER 3 or did you have to customize the mapping since EFNote is not in their presets yet. Thanks!
Thank you very much Dave! I was using the midi mapping preset for the ATV aDrums and remapped the tom rims using the midi learn button. Kind regards!
Will say it again best drummer on the Tube...!
Thank you so much Ed! :)
You are the only person I've seen who has chokeable cymbals that actually work with easy drummer or Superior drummer. Please please tell me how did you do it?
hi, cool video . which midi map preset did you use for the 3x ? or did you create one yourself?
Can you guys do a video of Lemon T - 950 ???
Is this drum worth for that price ?
Hi Ralf, great drumming demo as always! What audio- and MIDI interface did you use?
Thank you Ruud! I am using an RME Fireface UCX for the video stage, but you might use about any audio/midi interface actually. Kind regards!
Is it possible change the sound of rim hits on the toms on this drum kit using ezdrummer?
Thanks a lot for these kickass demos!
Quick question: for 100% use with Superior Drummer or other plugins, would you rather recommend Roland or Efnote ? :)
Thanks!
Thank you very much! If you're mainly using external sample libraries at the studio / at home, I'd go for a TD-27 module, which has positional sensing & can use the Roland digital pads.
VH-14D & CY-18D especially are outstanding in my opinion. EFNOTE also plays very nice, yet the most articulations/realism will be put out from a TD-27/TD-50X still.
Kind regards!
@@drumtecTV Awesome! You even confirmed to me that Roland's articulation system was useful for external samples as well, which was another thing I was wondering.
You rock man, keep up with the good work, awesome drumming and being so kind and helpful on top of that! Faith in humanity and internet so much restored. 😊
Can I use on alesis drums
Amazing performance. What plugins did you use, because I'm trying the studio basic full mic kit and it sounds brighter and more ambient than in this video.
No plugins active honestly, just a little comp/limiter at the end to bring up levels. No additional mixing/editing, I don't see how the same kit might sound drastically different on your side. Are you monitoring through the same monitors/headphones and at identical level (most important)? 2dB more volume might also seem brighter & more ambient :) Kind regards
@@drumtecTV I think it may be what you say. Thanks!
Can you share the mapping you did for the efnote? for some reason I can't get my cymbals mutes to align...
Hi, I basically used the ATV aDrums mapping & remapped the tom rims. That worked pretty well as far as I can remember. Kind regards!
Can you do a video playing the Efnote triggering SSD with the Patrick Carney expansion? would love to see this!!
Hey Amit, generally speaking triggering any sample library with a well playing e-kit is possible, but midi mapping support is much more flexible/advanced with the Toontrack libraries. I've done a demo with SSD5 on a drum-tec kit some time ago, and actually used an SSD kit for one song of the drum-tec Silent Studio Sessions:
ua-cam.com/video/Ga720o4oe6M/v-deo.html
ua-cam.com/video/7qf9GC3RPoc/v-deo.html
Apart from this, unfortunately there are no further SSD projects scheduled on my video list currently. Kind regards!
Based on my look at the module, it only has a USB-C output - no MIDI out. Did this ever cause any problems for you in connecting the drums to the Macbook (since I see you’re running Logic Pro in the background)? My iMac, for example, doesn’t recognise my MIDI keyboard controller, which is why I always link it to the computer via a MIDI cable. (For my current Roland TD-9, I had no other choice but to go with the MIDI output, since it only has a USB input, but no USB output).
The Efnote 3x is currently my top candidate, but my two main concerns are a) the apparent lack of a MIDI out and b) the durability issues I’ve heard some people report about (after all, the 3X says Made in China, the Efnote 5 is Made in Japan).
How do you choke your cymbals by using Ezdrummer?
Ralf, I thinking of taking the plunge into drum soft ware.
Does Ez drummer 3 require some sort of recording software or is it able in stand alone version?
Do you any lag time? Do you compensate with a additional hardware other than computer>USB cable>module?
It works as both standalone and plugin.
Hi Bruce, you'll need an audio interface for low latency monitoring & a fast audio driver, as well as enough CPU power to make this possible generally speaking. You might get in touch through experts@drum-tec.de for more advice if you like, kind regards!
This set slightly expanded would be perfect. Another mounted tom, few more cymbals, and a cowbell, because i gotta fever, and the only cure is .... More cowbell.
Hey Rick, you can actually get any customized kit configuration from www.drum-tec.com :-D Kind regards!
Thank you! Did you have any "Extra Midi Data" issues with the moving Hi Hat? I remember in your Logic Drummer video you said you preferred a not moving Hi Hat because there is no crosstalk or false triggers.
Hey Matt, that's hard to tell because for the demo I didn't go into (midi) detail that much as when I record drum takes for a track at the studio. But it felt good & I didn't notice any problems actually, so I'd say it works well & if there's music around it, you'll notice even less if there's any little midi "problems". And you can always clean up the midi file manually if neccessary :) KInd regards!
What prevents you from going directly from the module to the laptop via USB? Would love to see a step by step set up video for both methods including driver download and mapping.
I didn't have the appropriate cusb able at hand honestly :-D otherwise I would probably have done so, but I guess you'll then also need to download the EFNOTE midi driver. Kind regards!
When I connect it to my MacBook pro via USB, I experience some latency which make it unplayable. Do you have any suggestion on how to fix it?
@@david9318 Reduce audio buffer size in DAW or EZ Drummer 3 standalone player for lower latency. Kind regards!
@@drumtecTV Thanks, I've just managed to fix my latency issue. It was due to the Bluetooth connection to output to my headphones or to my amp...
@@david9318 oh yes, bluetooth won't work for low latency monitoring :) kind regards!
Sounds great! Would you mind sharing the midi mapping parameters you put in for the hi hat? I can't get the foot pedal to both splash and chick.
I think I just replied to your post on Facebook 😃
@@drumtecTV Yes, thank you for taking the time to comment! Another user shared a preset they had found and that was able to fix the issue.
Hey@@TheQuestion31 ! would you be so kind to share the preset or settings with me? thanks! was it in the "drum-tec engage e-drums group"
@drumtectv did you find you had to mess with any of the velocity curves or sensitivity in the program or module? I have an Efnote 3 and for some reason it triggers EZdrummer and Superior Drummer extremely quiet.
Hi, I basically set up the EFNOTE kit/module so it feels nice to play & used the ATV aDrums midi mapping preset inside of EZD3. I had to remap the tom rims, but apart from this everything worked well. Kind regards!
excellent video! is it possible to add an extra cymbal to this kit?
Yes
Any tutorial on how to set it up?
How does this efnote kit compare with Roland TD-17KVX? Mostly in terms of trigger accuracy to use along a VST
I have the same question. I cant decide between the EFNOTE 3 and the 17KVX. It seems the EFNOTE has better triggers on all drums (cone triggers / 9 on the snare alone, 6 on the toms) and more zones. No Maps for BFD3. Just preset maps for Toontrack stuff.
I somehow missed this one when it came out. You changed your watch ;)
How are you connecting this to the pc? Also, can you daisy chain 2 eFnote modules in order to have more inputs?
I got quite a large Xmas bonus this year and it's burning a hole in my pocket.
Hey Patrick, yeah every once in a while I like to change watches (yet, they're all made by Nixon) ;-D
You might check out this little tutorial over here:
ua-cam.com/video/nPOYxyzc4zs/v-deo.html
Please feel free to get in touch through experts@drum-tec.de concerning the other questions. The guys can also assist you in finding the perfect kit for your individual needs, it's actually possible to get any custom kit configuration.
Kind regards & happy spending/drumming! ;-D
Do you notice any difference in latency between EZD3 and SD3, and if so, what setting did you use to get optimum performance? I know this is directly in conjunction with the spec of the computer you're using. But it would be good to know.
Toontrack has made great job with EZD3. My personal experience is that latency in EZD3 is minor vs SD3 with my 4 years old setup (Win 11- I5-16GB-SSD disk on RME FF800). I can play 128 buffersize EZD3 where SD3 needs to raise at 96 or 64 buffersize to equal performance. EZD3 its made to play edrums. Sd3 is best but tuff to play on edrums! (my edrum is old td15kv Roland)
when i use ez drummer 3 with headphones it sounds great but through my speaker it doesnt??? Is this normal or is my speaker just crap. I use a Eurolive B112 as a drum speaker
Awesome! Did you note any difference in triggering with Roland digital technology (snare, ride, hihat)? Are tip/edge different articulations triggered? I still don't understand if positional sensing is somehow used by EZ3. It would be great if you could share your settings for efnote 3x :)
Thank you Maurizio! EZD3 does not use any positional data unfortunately, you'd have to step up to Superior Drummer 3 for this feature.
I actually didn't change a lot of settings, I used the ATV aDrums mapping preset inside of EZD3 & remapped the tom rims, then everything worked nicely :) kind regards!
@@drumtecTV thank you, I already own SD3 and trying to do the best choice in v-drum. Positional sensing is not available in EFNOTE 3x, so Roland seems to win on this point. I'd like to know if at least tip and edge articulations are triggered by efnote kit.
@@maurizioita86 Hey Maurizio, sure all triggers are dual zone (head/rim, bow/edge) and the ride has 3 zones. The snare has the additional cross stick trigger also. You can hear/see all this in the video demo intro starting from 0:25 actually. Kind regards!
@@maurizioita86 Crash 2 is also 3 Zone. Crash 1 is the only 2 zone cymbal because you are taking the second input from it and using it for tom 4. Crash 2 still uses both inputs and has 3 zones in this configuration.
@@maurizioita86 I am in the same situaiton as you. EFNOTE kits also have their own form of positional sensing called "Elise" sensing using more sensors in the snare drum. I am not sure if that works in SD3.
I just watched this @ 4x speed bro.
Now I want it!
😀
What do you recommend for speakers on this thing? Trying to get a range
You can find several options for e-drum monitoring over here:
www.drum-tec.com/accessories/monitoring?p=1
I really like the LD Systems Dave 8 XS as a very affordable little "full range" stereo system:
www.drum-tec.com/ld-systems-dave-8-xs-active-2.1-e-drum-monitor
Kind regards!
I have the 7x, what would be the most realistic settings/midi mapping for it?
Hi, I was using the ATV aDrums midi mapping basically and remapped the tom rims. Then everything worked nicely :) kind regards!
Hmmm, this or Addictive Drums 2? I only care about playing it with my e-drums (not using the midi/groove packs stuff).
@DrumTec Which size mat is under this kit ?
It's the Roland TDM-20, which you can find over here:
www.drum-tec.com/roland-tdm-20-large-sound-absorbing-drum-carpet?number=1001397
Kind regards!
I recently bought from you the module and the hi-hat efnote 3 and I can't find how to record in MIDI the cc4 of the hi-hat, however it plays perfectly in the module but no recording in Reaper of this cc4. I forgot to specify that I am connected in usb. Should I prefer midi connections? It's to bad if that's the case to have to add a midi interface with a laptop
Hey Vincent, please get in touch with the team through experts@drum-tec.de directly regarding your question. Kind regards!
Which interface did you use? Thx! 🤙🏼
Hey Tommy, for the video stage I am using an RME Fireface UCX, kind regards!
can you demonstrate ez3 and sd3 on the efnote 3? pleaseeeee
Hi, it would basically be the same thing, just with different pads. The EFNOTE 3 module is identical to the 3X module & has midi out, so you can trigger those libraries with any of the modules very well. Kind regards!
Does anyone have a tutorial on how to play with drum plug-ins such as this one on an efnote kit? I got the Efnote 5 and really would love to get heavier drum sounds!
Hey Thomas, the basic setup will be the same no matter what sound module you use:
ua-cam.com/video/nPOYxyzc4zs/v-deo.html
Kind regards!
@@drumtecTV thank you very much!!
Can y’all do a modo drums electronic drum set playing one of these haven’t seen anything of UA-cam
Hey Brandon, I am not sure if Modo drum actually offers e-drum midi mapping support. I remember that when it was still rather new, there was no such features available as far as I remember. Kind regards!
Ok thanks for the response!
m.ua-cam.com/video/nuQuHSoGXfU/v-deo.html
Just saw this about the e drum midi control I think they may have the ability to do it now but if it’s too much trouble no worries! I just wanted to see what the infinite round robin would sound like compared to other drum vst’s
which brain would you say tiggers the software best, or is it the sensors and brain, etc, td27 with digital drum maybe, looking for the most affordable set up not interested in the brain sounds as vsts all the way
It depends on what software you are planning to use. Generally speaking, Roland modules offer state-of-the-art playability/triggering. TD-27/TD-50X offer digital pad connectivity (those are great) and also feature positional sensing. But only Superior Drummer 3 will support positional sensing, EZD3 won't.
So generally speaking Roland all the way, you can get great results with a TD-17 & a great kit already:
ua-cam.com/video/2AIiIqNWHTc/v-deo.html
But if you are looking for most realism possible, I'd look at TD-27 probably. Kind regards!
@@drumtecTV ahh, many thanks, gutter i just got ezd3 i layer up vsts, but the positional sensing snare vid you did is superb, the gamechanger for sure, the td27 with digi snare and ride may be the end game kit for me then :), it will be the end game when the missus finds out, its got to be good enough for a proper album, i just cant stick the static snare samples anymore, plus digi hats
really thinking of selling my acoustic kit and going in 3000 deep for this kit so has to be right :)
@@drumtecTV What about EFNOTE "Elise" positional sensing for SD3?
@@theblowupdollsmusic Hey Matt, as far as I know there is no positional sensing features on any other brand than Roland (TD-27/TD-50X). Kind regards!
and what about triggering "Perfect Drums" from Naughty Seal Audio?
Crikey. Can you surprise us avid watchers and post some videos of you kinda' making an error or two in your playing?🤪
:-D
I don't understand why would someone buy a good/expensive module (like TD50) if the goal is to use a VST.
I'm probably missing something. Will the ezdrummer output differ a lot between, let's say, a TD11 and a TD50 ?
This is a different kit. This kit and module costs $2700 altogether. The TD50 module alone costs basically this whole kit. For the price of an entire roland setup you can purchase this kit, a nice laptop, and EZdrummer 3 and get better sounds/expandability. Not to mention the fact that you then have a laptop for whatever you want. Not to mention this kit has some excellent pads/triggers for the price. Arguably the best hihat at this price range as well. So you could spend $5.2k to 8k on just a drum set, or spend about $3500 on this kit plus a laptop/software.
The other part of this is that imported samples are 'one-shot' on the TD50 which gives you the dreaded 'machine-gun' effect which most are trying to avoid.
A modules internal latency and triggering will greatly impact the experience with VST’s.
Your first sentence hit the nail on the head. Expensive modules have good sounds at best, if you want "great" sounds/flexibility you really need to invest in a VST library. Latency shouldn't be an issue with reputable module manufacturers and a decent computer setup. Opinion of course.
This sounds more reliable than my Roland 503 and it cost me £4.999 🥴
But you'll need computer/interface & EZD3 for the sounds in addition to the kit :) you can also hook it up to your VAD kit, kind regards!
So basically EZ drummer is alot of different acoustic kits DW,Pearl,Yamaha etc. And same with cymbals Sabian,Paiste and what not ,and you use it to make your electric drum set sound like any of them would be rite ??
Yes, but with the flexibility of midi based production work, being able to switch out any of the instruments with a single mouse click at any point of the production procedure.
Also I guess you wouldn't be able to book Hansa Studio with all of its high end vintage recording equipment for the price of an EZdrummer 3 for too long :-D
And lastly, you are able to play physically noiseless with the right e-drum kit, so you can set up jam & recording sessions in your living room if you want to:
ua-cam.com/video/F8iciO7ENcA/v-deo.html
I still record acoustic drums at my studio a lot, but for several situations the elctronic drum setup is just so much more convenient, flexible & faster to get great results with. KInd regards!
:)
Are ex-Engineers from Roland who made this Drumkit?
My understanding is yes and also ex-ATV employees
@@Alexzw92 Thanks
Mm
Great performance, but the results in terms of sound are very disappointing (( Spatial placement of flour toms, ride and hihat seems to belong to different kits. Also the hihat dynamic/velocity doesn't sound natural. Together with the panoraming the kit "from the drummer's perspective" it just overloads my brain 🤷🏻♂️ Maybe this can work somehow in some busy mix, but sounds very artificially solo. But to be honest, no one VST managed till now to provide natural sounding kit out of the box, so EZD is not exceptional here in any way.
I still don't like the sound of the toms. Still sounds artificial to me...
Qualcuno dice che i suoni sono tutti uguali a me non sembra anzi sono potenti come quelli della GEVA
