- In today's episode "Axis Companion 4".
Axis Companion is a video management software that is designed for small business needing to monitor their premises, people and assets.
The main differences between Axis Companion version 4 and version 3 are :
- Version 4 supports Axis Companion IP Cameras, Axis Network Cameras and encoders with Firmware 8.40 and higher.
- Version 3 supports Axis Companion IP Cameras, Axis Network Cameras and encoders with Firmware 5.50 and higher.
- Both Version 4 and Version 3 support SD Card Storage and Axis Companion Recorder
- Version 4 doesn't support third-party NAS while Version 3 supports third-party NAS devices.
- Version 4 supports multiple users with different access rights while Version 3 doesn't support Multiple users.
- Version 4 supports Alert notifications while Version 3 doesn't support Alert notifications.
- Remote System Management is supported by Version 4 but not by Version 3.
- In Version 4 Internet Access is required during system setup and management. Live and recorded video are available offline.
- In Version 3 Internet Access is not required.

Hi, Thank you for the tutorial. From the timeline 6:20, you got back the fourth camera. Did the system update the firmware automaticlly?
It's not clear to me what is needed in order to run Axis Companion 4. Is it installed in a PC but then an axis recorder is needed, or only a PC is enough? Can it be used without a PC and only with axis recorder?
I can't find the axis recorders ip adress. I have already downloaded the IP utility but that one also didn't find anything. I can't connect the recorders to the cameras. Please help.
When adding a recorder on companion, the install process stops on “Configuring AXIS Companion Recorders” then on the add device tab on recorder doesn’t show a recorder. What am I missing?
I believe that it is better to contact Axis for that.

I am about to install an axis camera for a friend. If I add it in my account in order to test the camera, will I be able to assign the camera to my friends account later ?
Hi! With Axis Companion 4 you are able to create multiple users. You may choose between Viewer-Operator-Administrator. You can invite your friend by just entering his email address in users menu of Axis Companion 4 software!
