- Field testing the Titanium Pot with Stove Set. See how well it performs as I make a post hike lunch.
If you have any questions I didn’t answer in the video, please post them in the comments below.

When cooking with a canteen style cup and stove, you turn the pot in the opposite direction of each other. In other words, if you consider the shape of the canteen and stove as a D shape you would have the pot in the opposite direction of the stove. A normal D shape on top of a backwards D shape. Canteen cups were designed this way since at least WW2. Do your research. It’s described here on you tube.
I hear you. And maybe to put it out, you have to put it how the d pattern is.
It's weird, but all the Boundless Voyage adverts show the canteen set up the two D's on top of each other with no offset. This video shows the effect of this is to smother the fire as sure as any fire blanket would. Lots of comments say the UA-camr's using it wrong which may be correct, but he's actually following BV's own examples.
Very revealing. Thank you for the field test.
People who use a usgi canteen cup and stove by setting them exactly on each other by the same shape fitment are wrong. You are supposed to put the on top of each other with the curvature faceing opposite direction. This looks like it was designed to nest incorrectly when you use it like a stick stove. When you turned it and let it breathe that was correct. I would just face them curvatures in opposite directions just like the usgi was meant to be used 😂🤣😂. Chalk this up to operator error.
I picked this up about 3 weeks ago. Saw that issue right away, Fixed it with 2 steel tent pegs across the "stove" put the hooks into the holes to keep them from moving so much. All fixed now. and it really works great with the civilian model Trangia stove. Atb, John
Great idea. I will have to try that out. Thanks for the comment.
@@BarnYardOutdoors Try the tent pegs and a Trangia combo. You will not believe how fast you can get 2 cups of water ro boil.
Thanks for the review before buying. However I did buy the pathfinder and you pointed out the raised nodes on the base and now I see why. Airflow is vital with these stoves. Good review thanks again. 👍🏽
Thank you ! I was thinking about buying one but you saved me some money
Thanks for the review. I was on the fence about get this. After seeing the review im definitely going to wait to see if they fix the issue
Good review. I just don't get how it would work when the pot covers the flame and then there is no air flow.
Exactly. I am not sure what the designers were thinking. 🤷♂️
@@BarnYardOutdoors The air flow holes are too small.
Try cooking on it and you'll soon see why, it's no issue to turn the pot slightly to boil water, but a massive issue when you can't control the flame to stop food burning. I for one wouldn't have it any other way, all my soups and stews would be an inch thick of char on the bottom of the pan if there was more holes taking away the ability to control the heat by turning the pot
Has your friend upgraded the stove?
Thanks for breaking this down man. I was curious about this as well. It’s a shame that it has to be at an angle. The cup is pretty epic man, you’re a pretty good friend dude. He’s already all excited about it. Hopefully, we get to see his modifications soon. I’ll ignore what you said about the canteen cup and expect you to be buying another real soon. Take care.
Thanks for watching Shane. I am sure my friend will figure out something to raise the cup and improve the airflow. When he does I will revisit the setup and his mod in another video. As for me getting another canteen cup.....there is one in my Amazon cart.....just waiting for the price to drop a bit.
Good review. I like the design features of this set. Too bad the fire gets choked out when the cup is properly aligned with the stove. Maybe 2 steel nails or tent pegs placed between the stove and cup would allow enough air to pass through. Take care.
My friend suggested using a small square grill on top, that would definitely help with the air flow, but that would be another item to carry. I was disappointed it was not designed to function as a true stove for the canteen cup. Thanks for the comment.
I was also gonna suggest to put a couple of tent packs across the top of stove. As it is, it's designed more for aesthetic than function. Thanks for sharing your test!🔥👍🙏
My Pathfinder bottle cook set came with a similar 'stove' , just round, not kidney shaped.
I seem to remember there were instructions to use it as a pot stand and place it into a burning campfire.
I suspect this 'stove' was designed & engineered to be a 'stand', then promoted to 'stove' hy marketing.
Does it work better?
@@jakubkozamlecka7375 Better than the kidney shaped one, I assume?
I honestly don't know, since I always place my pots directly into the coals or, if they have a bail, suspend them from a tripod.
I looked up Boundless Voyage, trying to find this canteen cup with bale and saw your video. I will tell you this - go watch my USGI canteen cookset video / BCB Mark II parts 1 and 2..... On the Boundless Voyage though, I wouldn't even bother with the 'stove' section, I am however wondering if their Canteen will marry up with the Cup/Pot as a set because that would get my interest.
All the best from New England.
I have that stove it works great
Don’t lie to me. Are you bringing the beard back. ❤️
Could you give this a try with a fancy feast, Trangia, hexamine or small gas stove.
It might be a great thing without the fire.
There is nothing wrong with placing the cup on the stove at an angle. Properly done it can limit the amount of heat exposing the handles. The old original USGI canteen cup set worked based with the placing the cup at an angle on the stove.
I like the canteen cup ...but , I have to say it ? That stove was terrible...it's like the company didn't even test it ? Thanks for your videos.
You buried it in a fire place so how do you expect it to work Properly? You covered air channels with ash! Don't blame the stove! Blame the guy using it!
I'd probably use this with a trangia burner, If I was using wood, maybe a couple of tent pegs over the top to create an air gap?
Might want to try a small square wire grill. Might be just enough room raised up a few millimeters.
Turn canteen cup 180 degrees so it sits on top not in stove
Thanks 😊
No joke. Everyone! Literally everyone on UA-cam uses the USGI canteen wrong so they all use this the same way and they are dead wrong. You are correct KC 👍🏻. Also doing this on a bed of ash isn’t the best for a fire to breathe in a stove. The guy was fubar from top to bottom 😂
You choked it. The little stove works but shoving that many sticks don’t help plus the pot should go sideways, not covering the opening.
Sideways or turn around
Prolly work ok with a Trangia . that's the reason the pathfinder stove has the dimples on top . it keeps a small gap between the pot and stove for air 😊
Das ist der Unterschied zwischen Denken und Nachdenken!.
Etwas mehr Nachgedacht und das Ding funktioniert vernünftig und wäre sein Geld wert !.
Hi, nice one. It's the same with ya kit. If you don't use it, an it fails too work when you need it. Nice shame tho looks like it good bit of kit.
Well damn.. too bad it didn't work how out
Thanks for the video brother
have you tried nesting canteens into the kit? i am looking at buying this set but hesitate because i would like to find a lightweight canteen for it.
Yes. Here is the link to the review testing different canteens.

.Agree, these "stoves" are meant to be placed into already existing campfire coals. You can't generate enough hot coals under it attempting to use it as a "stick stove". It's not. I use my Pathfinder canteen cook stove w/an alcohol stove. The top of it is raised for air flow and perforated so you could use it to cook a steak on and hold any size cup and better vent the a fire..a nice plus....
I prefer the Pathfinder stove as well. It has worked will for me with all types of fuels for cooking with or without the canteen cup.
Where is it made? Metric is the norm except in the USA.
It is made in China.
Could you simply just turn the cup 90 degrees and let some air in?
Yes. I found that turning it about 30 degrees increases the airflow enough to efficiently maintain the fire in the stove.
180 degrees
If you want to drill four screws on the side like the pathfinder style.
That’s a great idea. Thanks.
@@BarnYardOutdoors You're very welcome!
It looks nice but ....... Unfortunately pretty pictures don't cook your food.
it is s bad cook / fire builder not the stove,
See my comment on your other post on this stove.
Thanks
Is this "stove" made in China?
Yes it is.
what a pity
Just get it hot! 🥵 😋
