    I don't see this as a 'knock off' necessarily of anything, to give it it's fair due. It's surely simply it's own version of an ancient tradition amongst woodsmen who love their stoves that is already many thousands of years old. Just like all the rest of the portable wood stoves out there. So Who copied who originally?
    It's also different in all aspects, anyway.
    The hinges are there, but different. The way the top part of the stove fits the base is also different from most other designs. It is common practice for engineers of ALL countries to take a given known design and then add their own unique features, which is exactly what this is.
    And is why it is immediately attractive to those out looking for a new wood stove without bias of origin. There is some very nifty and unique engineering gone into this design indeed, such as the clicking in of the top to base, really really nice!
    Which adds incredible stability to it. The base also adds a 'wideness' to the bottom that those which have the base integrated don't have, making it much less 'top-heavy' compared to it's other competitors.
    I think the base gives it great advantage also as regards airflow, because of the amount of air entering directly from underneath it, not just around it. This Boundless Voyage stove also reminds me very much of the Winnerwell backpacking, wood stove. The base on that is similar (with legs) and also can be separated.
    All in all, greatly impressed! Many thanks for making this version known! It's not one I have spotted before..

    To be honest Andy I actually like that one and a fair price to love the idea of the air getting in underneath because of the stand.All the very best pal 👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿👍🏻🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Been playing about with it for a couple of days,now, a quick stove hack, saw a 4mm deep slot in the ends of the pot rests, use the slots to put on and take off the grill plate, using the tabs on the grill plate.
    Am really liking this stove.

    I have the older model of titanium Boundless Voyage. The model you are using in your video just came out. I love my BV larger size (8.3" X 7.2" X 7.2") from the other stick stoves. The price is what appealed to me most. The others are triple or more. I think I paid $57. In the USA, the old model BV stove on Amazon is on sale for $49 dollars now. For grilling I just put a BV titanium mesh grill on top.

    I decided to go with the Boundless for the price of getting titanium with the base and grill grate all included and around the same size as the XL. No regrets here. Just cooked an awesome plate of steak and eggs and it easily supported a large cast iron skillet and cooked the meal with one load of sticks once they burned down a little bit. Seems to be of very good quality to me.

      did the base not warp too much even with the heavy cast iron skillet? I like the base a lot but I'm afraid It'd just warp too much and become unusable after a wihle

      Agreed mate, I've collected quite a few of BV's products and generally they've been really good, almost all of them still perform well in use to this day.
      The only one that I've had a bad experience with was the titanium skillet, which came with the ceramic surface treatment a bit chipped and it dished quite severely on it's first use. Okay if want to fry bacon or sausages, but it'll turn your eggs into a ring shape...erk. In hindsight, maybe titanium isn't such a great material for making a frying pan out of after all...

    • @jamesellsworth9673
      @jamesellsworth9673 Рік тому +1

      @@mazdamaniac4643 I agree with you about Titanium fry pans. These types of fireboxes produce long-lasting heat: I can bring heavier small fry pans made of blue steel or even my favorite tiny Wagner cast iron skillet. I find using them to be less frustrating as to the results.

    • @mazdamaniac4643
      @mazdamaniac4643 Рік тому

      @@jamesellsworth9673 Aye, need to get myself a wood stove. Gas stoves and titanium skillets just don't mix, the heat is too localised. Where it would shine though is from the even, dry heat the outer casing on a wood stove. I don't think that folks would have many issues if used like this.
      In the meantime, I had to bin that warped titanium skillet, it was useful for nothing any more. I've replaced it with a Fire Maple frying pan which is made from aluminium, slightly heavier and quite a bit larger so packing it into a hiking bag is a bit of an issue now, but I know I'll have less issues with it in the long run.

    Near the end of the video with the 2 stoves side by side, you can clearly see the hot metal bluing pattern on the right and nothing on the left. Very suspicious that Boundless is calling their stove titanium - I'd assume aluminum with titanium coating on some of the parts. Real titanium is very expensive and as the saying goes - "you get, what you pay for".

  • @Standswithabeer
    @Standswithabeer 8 місяців тому

    heck yeah; cheaper & runs the same. Bought one, thanks for showing it; i didn't know about it, but have been looking for a less expensive alternative to those hi-dollar folders. Bazinga! (most excellent review, btw).

    Thank you for the great review/comparison video. You got a like and I subscribed.
    I wish that I knew about this company before spending about $800 US on Firebox gear. Yes - I got almost everything that they make or sell...and it has all been good quality gear..and I like to support a US company, but...
    ...most of my stove/cooking gear is stainless, because the titanium stuff was either too expensive or unavailable. I do think that the stainless gear is generally more robust and less prone to warping, but my full cooking kit weighs way too much for anything but car camping or very short treks to camp.
    Maybe I’ll buy a few of the Boundless Voyage titanium products for backpacking. I suppose it’s good that I didn’t know about them when ordering my Firebox stuff just because I’m supporting an original and non-foreign company, but it’s a bit of a punch to the gut to realize that I could have had almost all of the same gear in titanium for about half of the price.

    It is a very very good video, but I find it a little biased with the weights, The Bushbox XL grill plate, in titanium, it weighs only 46gr. The bushbox XL titanium case weights 145g... I think it would have been fairer to put a weight comparison with the same accessories, also more interesting for people who watched the video.

      BBQ Charcoal works very well in these stoves .. ideal for cooking in more 'sensitive' areas and if one wants a lower more constant heat. Cleaner too.
      I used my SS Bushbox LF this morning on my 3rd floor flat (enclosed) balcony using compressed Charcoal Briquettes (not very mobile right now .. knee injury).
      Breakfast. Oats Porridge with lots of goodies in it, a slice of French (egg) Toast, another standard slice of Toast with Jam .. and Coffee.

    I don't see the BV as being a rip-off, or even a copy of the BushBox. Just like i don't see the BushBox as being a rip-off of the Firebox. All just variants on the same basic design solution really. For me the big difference are the hinges, having had both BushBox and FireBox, and both being great at their job, I'd take the BushBox every time just for the hinges, they make a massive difference in soot, gunk and ease of cleaning, at least in my experience anyway.

    Good review Andy. Don't recall seeing you use this stove since review. Very interested in a comparison with the recent LOFI stove you reviewed on this channel. For overall versatility this stove seems to knock the LOFI into a cocked hat, while saving about £40.
    Comparisons would give folks some sense of the utility and value of these stoves.
    Final comment - I think it only fair to viewers of your channel(s) if you declare up front (as many other reviewers do) whether a) you bought the item with your hard earned cash; b) you were provided with an item to review and return later or; c) you were gifted the item. Then viewers can factor this into your review conclusions. If you have to buy this kit yourself, like me, rather than say, having it gifted to you for review then 'ethics' isn't a major factor in whether you buy this item over a much more expensive stove made in the USA or EU. Perhaps you got them both free in return for a review. If not please enlighten us, so that I can apologise if wrong.
