I have an original 427 Cobra that I purchased in 1968 for $4,995. A friend brought his Kirkham over and we put it up on my lift. I love that I have an original but the Kirkham is an upgrade from an original car.
That is amazing I would love to see some pictures of your car, PetesSnakeBiteKit@gmail.com Did you notice any difference between the bodies. I think they changed the front grill opening and front fender radius slightly.
@PetesSnakeBiteKit Remember there are differences in original 427 Cobras. Street versus SC and competition cobras. Even the street cars had some differences. There were some narrow hip street cars. The Kirkham was an SC version, and I didn't notice any differences. My car is a common street version. However, my car doesn't have an oil cooler scoop. The car had front end damage before I purchased the car so it may have been removed at that time. I will send you some pictures of my car.
Pete, I've decided I want an "FIA" type car. I'm getting a bit older 😃 71, and called Kirkham a few weeks ago. I want a 302ci, dual exhaust, no scoop, etc. Just a quit little cruiser. A "gentleman's car". I stepped back a bit when I was told "thank you for your inquiry, we will build that car. It'll be 300k+" ....... It looks like I'm not so gentlemanly after all! Wowser, It was humbling.....
I met David Kirkham for the first time in 2014 I went by the shop to see the cars, very cool guy gave me a tour. They were 75,000 then, my how times have changed. Having said that, they are works of art, money is the only thing stopping me!
@@PetesSnakeBiteKit Oh, come on Pete! Texn8 got a price for a completed car and your comparing the 2014 base kit price. No drive train, no options and a FILED aluminum body.
@@larrysmith6797 I am not saying anything bad at all. Kirkham’s have built a niche, I put them in a class of their own. They are the top of my list, well under $4,000,000.00 class. BTW, apples to apples, turnkey minus w/filed body now is $200,000.00. That is almost crypto growth, good for them. Thanks for the comment, Pete.
Brilliant comparison. It would be the Shelby/Kirkham for me with the CSX#, out of my reach in reality but I’d go Kirkham, the metal body polished up is awesome.
I have seen pictures of the copper body and I have seen a block and calipers in their CNC, they make some very cool stuff. My Hurricane build with a Windsor is my budget. Unfortunately Kirkham is out of my budget. But IMO, the coolest stuff in the Cobra world. Thanks for watching, Pete.
Hi Joe, ERA is top notch for sure, I priced out what I wanted to do with a few companies and ERA was above my budget, maybe next build. Thanks for watching, Pete.
You do realize an aluminum CSX6000 is a Kirkham with slightly different suspension and brakes, right? Kirkham is a supplier to Shelby and has been for decades. Shelby also sells the Kirkham Daytona Coupe (not the Brock/Superformance Coupe).
Hi Larry, Yep, I did know that. It makes the CSX tag pretty expensive if you ask me. As I said a few times, if money wasn’t an issue there would be a Kirkham in my garage. Plus Kirkham is less than 20 miles from my house. Been there many times to look and drool, super nice guys. Thanks for watching, Pete.
A Kirkham Cobra can be purchased with 1960's suspension and brakes which the Shelby continuation cars use if they are aluminum. Kirkham also has the option to use billet aluminum suspension parts and Wilwood brakes, they will build them which ever way you want. Also the original spec brakes and suspension parts are interchangeable w/OEM and are used in restorations as well as vintage racing.
Great vid, I’m in the market for a Cobra and exactly making the same comparison. Do I pay much more for a Shelby aluminum body with it being a Shelby, not a replica or whatever but the real deal, I want that dash signed, Shelby’s sweat on the steering wheel for that price…. Or go the Kirkham route which I dearly fell for when I saw one in the flesh and blood. What sold it to me was the dash and interior, the billboard tires….. on 15’s. So dilemma time, do I tell the wife the Shelby Daytona Coupe in aluminum I originally wanted (not really just yet) is the same price as her stable refurbishment, I’ll foot the bill but I’ll get the cheaper Shelby Cobra in aluminium 🤣😂 When Classic Recreations built my GT500, I told my wife I was getting my ‘65 GT350 refurbished with a new body kit but she switched off within one second as usual. I had to leave the GT350 with my brother for a year, then he said he was giving it to me as a gift and she was none the wiser 🤣😂🤣 She says all my cars look the same, I say that about her horses and she goes mad 🤣😂 I blip the cars past her paddocks and that drives her mad as she says it frightens her horses 🤣 You think I’m lucky, I’ve had 20 years plus of punishment not being able to spend my hard earned money. Lesson learnt, if you like partying, drinking, women, cars, bikes, leaving the toilet seat up - don’t get married! They grow old and saggy but want to stay forever young under a surgeon’s knife and look the part but with the sex drive of a 90 year nun🤣😂🤣
Hi Bryan, Yikes, I didn't realize they were that much. Are you in the market, that would be an awesome car! Full on CSX number and aluminum body, the real thing baby. I truly they were in my budget. Thanks for watching, Pete.
@@PetesSnakeBiteKit I would love to be, but, I like the Roadster spec over the S/C. With the 42 gallon tank, 511cu. in.
