PETERSEN AUTOMOTIVE MUSEUM, Let's take a look at the Petersen. This was my first visit. Episode 145
I lived in the LA Orange County area for 60 years, and this is my first visit to the Petersen. Come along, and let's see what it's all about. Warning: there are motorcycles in the Petersen, but who doesn't like those too! Also, be prepared to walk a lot. On my next visit, I would do a couple hours, take a break for lunch, and then do a couple more hours. This is a great experience!

PAINT AND BODYWORK SAGA, here are all the paint and bodywork-related videos. Episode 144

I have been asked about videos that tell the whole story, like the one I published last month. It covered the entire build of my Cobra except for the body and paintwork, so here it is. This video has all of the videos and stills relating to the paint and bodywork, there are a couple of other fun things thrown in. Enjoy, Pete.

A few viewers have said, they have a hard time looking at the progress sequence of my Cobra build. While I do have a "Build" Playlist, I wanted to make it easier for viewers to view the timeline of my build. What we have here are all the Pete's Snake Bite Kit videos that are build-related in order, so you can scan through them and find the event on the build timeline you are interested in. Than...
2024 Utah Cobra Club Summer Picnic
Переглядів 1733 місяці тому
The Utah Cobra Club is a group of Cobra people, most have a Cobra, some are building a Cobra, some have sold their Cobra and come anyway. This a great group of folks that have really welcomed me these last few years. They have been going on long cruises, going to car shows, and having BBQs, and picnics for many years. This year we hosted the picnic at Pete's Snake Bite Kit studio. Thanks to Pau...
THE SCIENCE OF IGNITION TIMING, Episode 131 Progressive Ignition
Переглядів 8245 місяців тому
Building this Hurricane Motorsports Cobra has been a labor of longsuffering love, and pain, and money. Anyway, I really have enjoyed the build and the process but mostly the finished-ish product. I originally built the engine (408 Windsor) with EFI in mind and I used a Holley Sniper system, that system was not ready for prime time, to say the least so it's gone. To make the MSD distributor comm...

IS IT TIME TO SELL MY COBRA? Episode 128
Переглядів 1,1 тис.6 місяців тому
I have been asked, "Why do so many Cobras go for sale at low mileage?" Honestly, I have wondered the same thing myself. Having followed the Cobra market for a couple decades I would say the average mileage a Cobra has on it when sold by the original owner-builder is... 5,000 miles. My odometer just passed 3,000 miles so, am I more than 1/2 way through owning my Cobra? SUBSCRIBE ua-cam.com/users...
WHY I HATE TO DO PRODUCT REVIEWS Episode 127

Here at Pete's Snake Bite Kit, we are a niche UA-cam channel with less than 2,000 subscriptions. Not a big player so, I have been approached by just a few companies to do reviews & endorsements. I was really surprised how much control they wanted over how I produced a video because they were offering $20.00 in car care products. Anyhoo, Super Clean was a breath of fresh air, let's take a look! ...
COCO mats in a Cobra? EPISODE 124

There is always something to do on a project car, that's why they are called project cars. Carpet without a mat of some kind will have a hole where your heels rests, especially if it's a stick shift car. After I finished the carpet, when I was driving I was thinking about the heel print I was making in the carpet. Anyhoo... enter COCO mats they are very high quality mats made to order. Let's ta...
What is a "K" car anyway!? EPISODE 125

This episode is part of the Cobra interviews playlist. I met Kevin at this year's Salt Lake AutoRama , I was parked close to his Shelby GT-350 inside a Ford corral. We chatted a bit and I wanted to get a closer look at his GT-350, little did I know he has a small collection of fastback Mustangs and a Datsun Z BRE (Pete Brock) tribute, which you may see in the background they are building. It wa...
Off with the Hoosiers and on with the Mickey Thompson ET Drag Radials! EPISODE 123
Переглядів 6588 місяців тому
I wanted to replace my Hoosier bias ply tires and put on Mickey Thompson Drag Radials. There were a few things driving this decision. Radials drive smoother than bias-ply tires, they don't catch grooves in the road, and they can absorb irregularities in the road without upsetting the car as much as a bias-ply tire. So let's go for a ride and see how they ride. Oh ya, how about a full launch or ...
Why would anyone want a Cobra? EPISODE 121

Does anyone need a car that will try to kill you if you disrespect it? No, a car that holds 2 people, has no top, no heater, no power steering, no power brakes, no airbags, no traction control, and no ABS can not be considered a necessity. Then why it is the most copied, cloned, replicated, or continued car in history. If you have never driven one, well it's hard to explain so let's talk to fiv...
AutoRama Salt Lake City 2024 EPISODE 120
Переглядів 2009 місяців тому
I guess it's time to test the waters. To be honest, I built my Cobra to be a driver, BUT the body and paint work at The Original Garage pushed it over the top. Some days it just looks too good to drive, so I did my best to give it a super detail and drove it over to the Salt Lake City AutoRama. There were so many cars that were just amazing, I wanted to give you a peek at some of them and, oh y...

I love your Raptor!😂
Nice video Pete love seeing all the classy cars
Wow!! Congratulations Pete!! Looks fantastic!!
Thanks Howard!
The series of episodes really do work well, thank you for an enjoyable hour! (Again).
Good to know, thanks for watching, Pete.
I've had one for almost 3 years now and I bought it used. This distributor is the best. The only problem I've had is I set my rev limiter too low and my cheap tach couldn't keep up with it so it looked like my engine was missing at 5400rpm but I was hitting the rev limiter at 5800rpm. I readjusted to 6000rpm and no more problems.
Interesting, I have had other rev limiter issues before and if you are watching the air fuel meter it will read lean so it looks like a lean misfire. That one messed with my head for a minute😅 thanks for watching, Pete.
This is very familiar, hahaha. Now Im back its build time all my backorder parts showed up so i can start building
Outstanding Pete. I'm still on restrictions since my procedure but will be hitting it again soon. Beautiful car
I hope the recovery is going well Larry!
I am glad you caught it in time to have a minor (in comparison) procedure done. Rest up and take care of yourself!!
I know what is going to play through my work day today!! Thanks for putting this together Pete!
I see new owners of hurricane want 80 thousand for a new cobra it sucks
Where did you see that is that on their website?
That is turnkey(minus) price right?
@finleycraft they said I turn key 427 motor car is between 75 and 85 thousand plus 10 percent
@@robertsnelling837 yep a lot of crazy stuff coming out after hurricane was sold, so… it looks like there may be another new owner for Hurricane. News to come soon.
@@PetesSnakeBiteKit people in Iowa were nice and answered questions fast the owners now only answer when it suits them sad
If your cobra wasn’t made in the 60s then it’s a kit car!
I recently purchased a cobra replica from the mid 80's, but I can't seem to identify who made it. Was told it was an early Shell Valley, but called them and they said it's not one of theirs. Hoping you can send your contact info and possibly help me figure it out.
Here is my email I would be glad to look at pictures, and maybe one of the guys here would have an idea. PetesSnakeBiteKit@gmail.com
Amazing skills!
I also didn't realize we were talented enough to back up our Cobras in order.
Awesome Cobra Picnic! Great Videos!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you.
That was a real happening! All were wide bodies and sounded right. That little red 68 Wagon brought back some memories. My Dad had light blue 66 390, green dot heavy duty MX Cruisomatic. All those Cobras! 🐍. Beautiful day, beautiful spot and beautiful place for peace. With all the BS going on. This was a beautiful piece of what we do this!
Thanks!
u barely covered unique. not being mean but thats why i watched this.
I know not much on them. I spoke to them on the phone a couple times but I have never seen one close up.
Just watched a couple of your videos. We just bought a cobra, Gen 1 I believe. From Hurricane out of lees summit Missouri. I believe bought in 2007. The pedals are not mounted to the floor. I was wondering if you still had your gen 1 manual and if so could I get a copy of it?
I want to keep it for the information that does match, it’s like a 1.5 manual. If you contact the new owners of Hurricane they may send you an e-copy of it. Hurricane Roadsters.
@@PetesSnakeBiteKit I did contact them. I didn’t know if it came to you on flash drive and could be emailed or something. I would want to keep it as well. Hopefully I hear back from them.
@@stalyunstuff5004they sent me paper copy, I asked them for any type of electronic copy and they said it was too big of a file to send, strange. I hope they can get you something.
@@PetesSnakeBiteKit me too. At this point I’d take a paper copy. Is yours a 1000 series? How many pages is the manual? I did get ahold of them and they are still looking so we will see.
My car is 2029 so I guess it’s a S-2 car. I will ask if any guys have an e-copy
Very interesting! You may be on to something. More testing and an update video coming soon?
I had a Porsche 928S2 5 speed that had problems with the MAF. I tracked it down to the fact that for some reason the plug on the MAF itself would corrode and since the voltage is tiny, this slight corrosion was enough to make the car run rich. I just learned to pull the MAF (takes 5 minutes in this car) and clean the plug again. I thought about changing the connector at the harness end, but that looked like it would add more problems than it solved. The system was Bosch LH-Jetronic 2.2. To tell you what sort of effort it took to sort this out, there is a man named John Speake in the UK who is the MAF guru; He had the exact same car that ran perfect and sent me his MAF exchanged for mine, and it worked good for a while and then started acting up again. He later told me my MAF worked perfectly on his car. Fuel injection is a better idea but it still has its quirks and gotchas. The best thing you can do is install a wideband air/fuel ratio meter so you know what is going on. I discovered the system on my car could be set, but it didn't have the flexibility to feed the engine in all situations. You could set it lean so that it didn't stink like an old school bus at stop lights, but then you lost power at the top end. Or you could set it rich so it pulled like a bull to redline, but then smoked and stank at idle. Literally, the system was too small for the near 7000 RPM V8 engine. I discovered this via the A/F meter. I added a rising rate fuel pressure regulator and via some trial and error, got it set so that the system could run around 15.0 at idle and driving around, but went right to 12.0 at full throttle and held it there to redline. I had an aftermarket Porken ignition chip and running Chevron 93 octane, never had a bit of detonation. Porsche 928's were not known for their dragstrip domination, but this one ran in the 13's @ 105 mph when I was done with it, and that with tons of tire spin from only 286 cubic inches and 2 valves per cylinder. Great video!
Thanks!
I’ve had one in my old motorhome for over a year now and it’s run flawlessly. Helped with hill climbing performance, fuel effy, and hot starts.
That's very cool, pete. I'm curious how it will perform after you really put through the paces 😅
I’m going on three years. And your price is a bit low…
Interesting, I got an estimate from them 2-1-2021 $36,700. Things just keep going up! How long do you think before you have your car?
I built my cobra in 1991 and had to sell it during covid, i am still heart broken
They built 75 260 cobra,s. The 289 was where the legend was born. The Cobra doesn't,t need more than that. Shelby didn't,t want to use the 427,s.
You forgot a Canadian made replica "johnex" built until 2010 near Hamilton Ontario Canada
Epic!
Love this song I use to play it on my guitar all the time along with radar love. Very cool pete
I'm so impressed with the Cobra . Built the way you wanted it to be and I totally agree with your reasoning. So glad that I could go along on the ride. Wishing that I counld be there in person to share it with you. I really miss you my freind, but it's always good to see you in these videos.
Thanks Stan, it would be so fun to show you the car!!
beautiful car!
Thank you.
Very cool
Thanks Dan.
Yes, impractical daily. But once or twice a month, bliss!
I don’t mind living with it at all.
What's the price on something like this 40K?
I would hope for a bit more, if I was selling. Fortunately I don’t need to figure that out anytime soon.
Haha…$40K
This is a great video, pete. A True Cobra owner that tells it like it is no fluff
Thanks 👍
Your cobra sounds awesome Pete! Thank you for the video
Thanks for watching.
I always enjoy your videos, pete you just saying how how it is no fluff. And I wouldn't sell ethier.
i got my ffr mk1 in 06 from the builder unfinished , ive loved every second of it , i'll never get rid of it and after almost 20 years with my 30 year old car im ready for the next thirty years with it and once im gone it goes to one of my boys
That is awesome, mine is going nowhere!
Where can I get Super Clean products, they look like they work great?
Amazon and Walmart.
Love me some Super Clean, I always have a bottle in the garage. Works really well for old greasy engine bays. Thanks for sharing your experiences!
It was my dream car since I was fifteen and saw Gumball Rally. I finally have one and it is the most "Practically impractical" vehicle I have ever owned, and I absolutely LOVE it....
Well said!
Looks great to me!
Thank you!
Ooh I like it, did you have to send a template or are those off the shelf parts? Mine will have the drop pedals so curious about the fitment there.
They sent me a template that was close I trimmed to size. They also sent a blank to use if needed. A friend just ordered a set for a M 4 factory 5 and he used the blank not the template. The whole process was only 4 weeks. I was impressed with their system.
@@PetesSnakeBiteKit Excellent good to know, I will def check them out.
The importance of this can’t be overstated. You have to have a good purchase for your heels in a manual shift car, and especially in a car that is as twitchy and unpredictable as a 427 FE Cobra. Under acceleration, things are happening at warp speed. The 1000 hp Turbocharged pickups are child’s play compared to the Cobra with the 427 FE, like the snake, it will sink its fangs into you as easily as anything else. I really like the these mats. Even if you have a T56 trans with dog rings on 1-4 and clutch on 5 and 6 this sure footed grip helps keep your concentration absolutely where it needs to be. I want a 410 FE at 413 ci with twin VS3582 s at 9 psi. with a dog box T56. lol 😂 like the Cosby twin Paxton Cobra!
Thanks, I make sure a am at 100% attention before I get into this thing.
Great stuff.
Thanks Larry.
You just got to love it. The looks the sound and of course the smell
Yep, the smell of race gas.
Wow, awesome!
So what will you now be using? I saw a guy in California who used the Edelbrock Pro-Flo 4 EFI system…. I have to say… I was intrigued. I live in Colorado and about to pull the trigger on a build. I am worried about the altitude… we live at 7400 ft…. But the surrounding are is around 6200 ft… just don’t want to deal with a carburetor
That pro flow 4 looks good. My friend used on his 454 c-10 and it was great. I have an 850 Holley on my Cobra now and it’s better than the Sniper was on a good day!
Love the shirt
Thx, I saw it at a Tex-Mex restaurant in Texas I had to.
@@PetesSnakeBiteKit that’s funny!
I’m sure you drive mostly local but are there any favorite places you go?
Park city is about a one hour drive from here, great views and mountain roads. Our club is taking a drive north to Idaho this July looking forward to that!
