    He makes a great point about the cue cards--even the most seasoned cast members and guest are often looking at them in skits and it's quite noticeable. Marty is such a pro.

      Lorne typically demands the cast and guest actors to use the cue cards, to avoid mistakes (and ad libbing, especially for the host).

      The writers are re-writing the material sometimes up to 1 minute before air so the cue cards are apart of the structure. Unavoidable for most. Some just do it better or wrote the sketch so they know it down to it's smallest beats. I get his point but I'm sure it was frustrating. He is such a cool dude regardless. An American treasure ( I know he is Canadian). I don't care. He's ours now.

    This is the first time I've ever seen him being completely serious. He's one of my favorite comedians ever and seeing the "real" Martin Short being so introspective is interesting.

    Martin Short is the best, most hilarious human being to ever be on TV or in the movies. OK, Steve Martin and Billy Crystal, too. I vividly remember Ed Grimley many eons ago (and a galaxy faraway), cleaning up his pad, prancing exuberantly, in anticipation of Dame Tina Turner's visitage. Martin Short. We could go on and on. What a talent. What a delightful, eccentric man.

    An incredibly talented artist. Not only is he funny but he can also sing and is light on his feet.
    His face is also wonderfully malleable, I always imagined him doing an impression of Thom Yorke.

    Still the best and most underrated season of SNL. It’s forgotten because it was one of the few seasons that Lorne Michaels wasn’t attached. They didn’t rely on political humor that season (it was a Presidential election year) every week like modern SNL does.

      Part of that is he kept returning as a guest, so some of the continuing sketches he was able to continue.
      Still, I don't think ANYTHING beats his 'royal gynecologist' sketch.

    As soon as STCV had Ed Grimley l kn ew he was going far. Edmonton used to film SCTV and I was so proud of ITV studio in my youth. Canada is proud of such an icon in comedy. Born and raised in Edmonton ,Alberta and I’m still here,Let the good times roll 🇨🇦

    Nothing more annoying on SNL then when you can CLEARLY see the actor reading the cue cards. Nothing takes me out of a skit faster. Good for Martin for giving them the slip.

    There is a small group of very talented comedians that I consider to be the same in there approach but yet totally different. This small group consists of, Martin Short, Steve Martin, Robin Williams, Jim Carrey, and there's like 2 more I can't remember. The one that says " I get no respect".

    It’s funny hearing Martin say he didn’t like reading cue cards. In the early years I never noticed people reading cue cards and then by the late 90s and on that’s all it became. Very inferior show done that way.

    That was one of the best seasons in the history of SNL. Even the final season that featured what was left of the original cast (Gilda, Jane, Bill, Loraine, and Garrett) wasn't half as funny as the '85 - '86 season with Martin Short.
