the image of PRINCE sitting alone, eating mac n cheese, and /still/ being sassy about it is everything lol
being sassy about lol
I aspire.
Yeah? Seems dreary and dumb to me.
Lo
Sassy. Lol perfect word to describe him
I suspect Prince had an incredibly dry sense of humor, and the fact that no one could ever tell if he was joking or not was part of the fun for him.
I love how Hader gets a big kick out of stuff. That guy loves to laugh.
I’d put him up there with Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Eddie Murphy and Phil Hartman in terms of best SNL cast members. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are also two of the greats.
he looks high!
Bill Hader's laugh should be bottled as a cure for depression.
Prince's response was cute. He just wanted to be a regular guy at the party enjoying his mac and cheese. It was totally meant as a joke.
Prince was clearly joking, chill Howard. I laughed so hard listening to the story.
That totally sounds like something Prince would say. Since he was 17 years old, people have told him how amazing he was. Surely, he had to have a million ways to respond to people constantly coming up to him with praises.
Why is Howard being so damn pessimistic about Princes’ response. I think he was being funny and snarky and Fred didnt know how to react to it.
I thought the exact same thing. Even Fred was trying to be like "no it wasnt like that". Howard was probably projecting his own anxieties
Clarissa R He’s insecure.
I know! I was thinking Howard must have social anxiety or some other issues where he thinks of the worst case scenario in a social situation. I don’t get how saying “do you know what I think the greatest is? This Mac n cheese.” is in no way belittling. Objectively there’s nothing negative about it. The story Fred told was funny. If I was there if he like “really it’s that good?! Ill have to try some.” But damn Howard must distrust ppl and their intentions. Howard be acting like prince knew Fred wanted confirmation from him and activity with and it.
Or dude doesn’t like prince.
Probably because Howard is such a people person. He can’t imagine someone not engaging with fans.
Howard should understand more than anyone bc he hates compliments.
I actually cannot imagine a cooler response than "you know what I think is the greatest? - this mac and cheese." How perfect is that? What else is he supposed to say? He's Prince. He had people telling him that crap every day of his life. As someone who's been around the absurdly famous for as long as he has, I'm surprised Fred (or Howard for that matter) didn't appreciate it on that level.
Bill Hader is the cutest person ever
"Why did he say that?"
Because he was a normal guy with a good sense of humor! Jesus, have you ever see an interview with him?
IKR? I don't know what's wrong with Armisen or Howard for thinking that was a weird response. To me it sounds like he was just trying to make Fred relax and say, "Yeah, welp...can't disagree with that. Lemme get a blow of that...it looks like it's the shit" and then have a laugh. Instead, Fred gets all weirded out. I don't get it.
There are fans, and then there are fans who know...
Exactly!!! Howard seem like he was reaching for some bullshit
Prince had a good sense of humor....but he was far from a "normal guy".
He said it as a way to respond to "you are so great".
Oh please more of these three together
YESS.
Do some searching. There are a few long form Documentary Now interview panels that are pure gold!
I need them to sit a little closer next time.
I could listen to them all day. The Documentary Now panel where they go off on Pierre is AMAZE
Add Mulaney and Rafi (can’t spell his name) and it would be the best
I talked to Fred for 10 minutes or so at work in 2018 or 2019. He's so genuine when he asks how you are doing. Just an absolutely delightful person.
"You know who will tell you when you had a bad show? New York City" had me rolling.
I think Prince was being sincere too! I think he lived a life where he had to acknowledge the impact he had on people, but was always aware he was just a dude that wanted to play his music.
I think Prince was deflecting praise, instead of inflating his ego with it. (And, also saying he was enjoying his mac n cheese.)
I really like Bill, and Seth, and Fred.
I think that what was out of Prince's hands, is what F, S, B and, especially H would do with his answer.
It surprised me how no one in the video saw what I saw, and instead turned it into something else.
(Granted, he also may have been suggesting he might have wanted to be left to enjoy his mac n cheese).
I think he was being cool about it.
I think this lends itself to that conversation:
“I don’t consider myself to be the best, and I don’t like compliments… they distract me.” - Jimi Hendrix
Prince was always on another astral plain to us. Actually he still is 💜
god I love how bill just laughs at everything
Bill Hader's amazing impressions are one of the things that's kept me going this year
His Vincent Price is timeless.
"it's the Prince Shooooooow, Prince Shoooooow" Prince was just being funny and sweet w the mac n cheese. It's actually just a humble thing to say and divert the convo from seriousness of how awesome he is / was.
What a trio. Just amazing.
He should have said “damn, I better get some of that Mac n cheese then.”
If it was me, I would have pulled a Chris Farley and start screaming at myself as I left Prince's table. "Dang it! That was SO stupid! I knew I'd screw that up!"
When you are Prince you know you are Prince. He knows he is great. I doubt it was to humiliate him. It was probably damn good Mac and Cheese.
I like Prince's response. Would have responded the same... 🤣
Mac'n'Cheese, pancakes...man loved his carbs.
Pancakes... LMAO 😅😅😅
Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories! 😅😅😅😅😅
I always deflect compliments so this doesn’t seem weird to me at all. And if I’m eating something, that’s definitely what I deflect to. Prince wasn’t being mean ☺️🎸💜
I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves the closing shots of SNL with everyone talking
Kinda feels like Howard has a little animosity towards Prince.
I think he just is so interested in his persona that it come off that way
He likes to tell a story about when he went to an intimate, small, private Prince concert, and Prince insisted on performing with the lights out so no one could see him. I think he was insulted and felt like he wasted his time. He may even claim to have walked out - I forget the details - seems like maybe there were no chairs, either. So yeah, he probably does have animosity towards him. Howard's ego is as big as anyone's in show business.
Has always praised his talent.
Yep. From when he went to his show and Prince kept the lights off.
Howard told a story where Prince performed at a private party but had the lights turned off and this pissed Howard off. He's a big fan of Prince's music.
That WAS funny about the mac and cheese. Why is there such discussion over a simple joke?
I think Howard made way too much about Prince's mac and cheese comment!
Bill Hader is just magnificent. Awesome actor.
whenever bill hader laughs i smile
Tbh, it just sounds like Prince was a shy person.
So funny. Prince story is so Prince. Love that eccentric about him.
Conceding greatness to mac 'n cheese is the definition of greatness.
These guys are freakin legends!! SNL has never been the same without em.
Howard is big time projecting. Or doesn’t like Prince. To say prince was trying to humiliate him bc he said “you know what I love? This Mac n cheese.” is just kinda sad. Seems exhausting to always think everyone is out to get you or humiliate you.
I find what I like about SNL is that it seems all these people are nice down to earth individuals, is easy to root for them during and after SNL
I think Prince was just really in the zone with his delicious mac & cheese. You know he loves his comfort foods! 🧀
just love how Bill randomly doing impressions of Prince and Lorne Michaels :D
Bill is physically incapable of *not* doing a Lorne Michaels impression lol
Maybe Prince was sort of saying - please don't interrupt me when I'm eating. Love U Prince!
Bill Hader is adorable love him so much
Snl cast members live such magical lives
This story is VERY Prince. He does what he likes. If he wants Mac and Cheese, then that's what he eats. You can't fault him for marching to his own drum.
Miss Bill hader on snl and Fred armisen
It's true those two guys funny as shit
When somebody comes up to you and says you’re the greatest, that’s really awkward. What was he supposed to say? He must hear that 12 times a day.
I listen to Howard religiously, but can’t remember this interview. And what funny guys.
Fred is such a fan boy:)
I THINK HE WAS MAKING A JOKE ABOUT HIS OWN FAME. YOU THINK HE'S THE GREATEST. BUT ITS NORMAL TO HIM..
We said... he was a musica
Genius but it came naturally to him like math to Will Hunting or something :)
Yeah, I was actually surprised (and disappointed) by Fred's reaction (Prince was funny). I would think he'd understand as a fan... (...)
I agree. I think he was poking holes in fame. A commentary on the absurdity of celebrity. It’s why he disassociated the man from the symbol(ism). Cerebral man. He got it.
So when he borrowed then smashed Kirk Douglas's guitar on Fallon, he was doing it for God?
No need to worship him like he was some kind of saint. He wasn't.
what Prince was trying to get across was "I am sitting here eating. Do not disturb". It's not an accident he was on his own at the time.
I💓U Prince 🕊🕊🕊
Prince gets complimented all the time. What was he gonna say: "Omg, thank you for your unoriginal compliment." If you meet your idol, tell him/her something other than "I think you're the best."
the fireman sketch was actually really good in my opinion, one of my favorite, i laughed so hard and still do when i re-watch it.
Prince has heard he's the greatest for 40 years... So it's probably a standard response for him 😊
Howard is sooooo projecting.
I need Fred to do ASMR. He has the most calming voice and is so pleasant to listen too
Someone needs to curate these prince stories and put them in a book
Dude, how many times do you think Prince has been told he's the greatest.. that's like telling Eddie VanHalen he's a great guitar player.. at some point that compliment gets old to death to the artist themselves. I just think prince was a funny dude and people forget that about him sometimes.
Yeah exactly. Wanted to distract the attention away from himself... while eating Mac & cheese. Kinda obvious, or so it seems
Sitting shoulder to shoulder. Those were the days. Damn you Covid 19!
Great anecdotes and sharing. Thank you.
Legendary
Spot on impersonation of Prince.
Prince stories are the best!
He’s prince 👑 eating Mac and cheese 🧀 , post work night. who wouldn’t be like leave me be with my glorious bowl of carbs and cheese.
Such a shame this is the only way to hear the show. You can’t download the app in Australia to listen. Currently in the worst lockdown in the world and would love to binge on Howard podcasts! 😭
Please don't bash Prince, Howard. He had an other worldy quality that was authentically him. He traveled to the beat of a different drum, and I'm sure he didn't mean to hurt, Fred. Besides a really well made Mac n Cheese is hard to beat! RIP Sweet Prince.
Congrats Howard n HSS show! 1M u tube subs. thanks for all the years of fun, laughs n bitz. Big fan since 1996, yall nutz, luv it, xojodia, G's mom, NE Massachusetts
Prince was being humble and making a little self-depreciating joke. What else is he supposed to say... "ya, I am. Thanks."
I love these Prince stories
It's Prince being funny.
Oh I would love to see more of them together
Love this interview! ❤️
Bill has the best laugh.
Four comedy legends in one room!
They're all such cutiesss 😭😭😭
The last two lines... 😂🗽
"That thing you did at the firehouse was dumb." They better not be talking about Jerry, PUT ON MY IPOD
I don't even think Prince was joking or being mean. I think he was sincerely REALLY into that mac and cheese.
Luv Bill & Fred, super funny...bill is adorable
I think Howard has thee best laugh. You know something’s funny when he does his laugh.
Great questions
Congrats on 1M subscribers!
I don't think Prince liked all the adulation.
Word... Because too much is insincere and simply celebrity worship, right?
It would be creepy for anyone.
Great clip, these 3 could do a whole show together...
the mac and cheese story is one of the most prince stories out there
That musta been SOME KINDA MAC-N-CHEESE!!!
It seems to me that Prince was basically saying: Leave me alone, I don't want to deal with a "fan" right now
I mean how could Fred respond to that? Lol, Prince was so bad ass 😂
Why are they sitting on the couch so crammed? Like their waiting to get scolded by their mom or something .
it's adorable innit
These 3 guys did awesome after SNL!!!
Bill Hader with that new york accent is doing things to me
Hey Now!
If I had an event and was hungry after and I liked mac n cheese I would think it was the greatest too. What was he supposed to say lol ya you are right I am the greatest 🤣
That is soooooooooo funny. Many people have said since Prince his passing that he was such a funny guy..........
I remember seeing Ian McKellan try to swoop in on Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy flipped out about it a little bit during one of those standing goodbyes... It was so real it still makes me laugh to think about.
✨✨ HAPPY 1M SUBs ✨✨
He finally hit 1 mil subs awsume!
Don't tell me Bill Hader went through his entire life not knowing Prince had a deep speaking voice.
So the charlie murphy pancake story is true!
Of course
All the Charlie Murphy stories are true
Confirmed multiple times
@@nifemi_o RIP Charlie
Duh. He was the brother of Eddie Murphy, one of the biggest stars of the 80s. Charlie was his bodyguard. Damn. Why do you even join these conversations when you have no culture lol
Love you Fred
