    The 18-55 frustrates me. Great info about the 18-135 (Zoom Creeping - LOL). For vlogging I use the 10-18. It's sharper wider and I love it.

    Been using the 18-55mm lens for awhile on my 80D to vlog, or even create short horror movies, and I decided to buy the 18-135 so when I am creating, I don't need to be super close to where I am pointing at. That, and vlogging wise and pointing out to something random, or planes, or... just something random.. Like your creeping lens joke. Haha. The 55mm lens, is good for close shots. While I use the G7X Mark 2, just zooming in is so slow when I want to catch a bird flying, like I saw a Bald Eagle flying around our area, and it was gone by the time my G7X zoomed far enough in to actually capture it (While I quickly parked on the side of the road to get it with my hazards on! Safety first!) The weight I am not to worried about, my 80D definitely is heavier than my G7X. But, my canon 80D was my first DSLR, went from a Nikon L840 to Canon 80D. LOL.

      If you want 1 lens to do everything, yeah I'd say the 18-135 is better. That's such a versatile focal range it's a great do-everything lens! I can't say anything about image quality in the 18-55 range, I haven't done extensive testing, but if you're JUST vlogging, It can be really nice to have the 18-55, it's significantly lighter and with the money you save you may be able to buy another lens with more range. But if you wanna do everything with just ONE lens and can afford it, the 18-135 makes more sense. Hope this helps!

    I've been tempted to start practising wildlife vlogging for my behind the scene stuff. But the idea of carrying my 6D with a Sigma 150-600 C the lens alone being 1.9kg and I have a 700D which I thought would be a good camera to try for vlogging, but I sold my 18-55 to camera store so now I'm thinking I should pick one up 2nd for cheap vlogging, as 700D if I keep the grip on has a much better battery life than compact cameras like the canon gx7 What's your thoughts?

    • @JoshWiniarski
      @JoshWiniarski  5 років тому +1

      That sounds like a solid plan to me! Especially if you're going to be carrying 1 camera with a big piece of glass on it you'll probably want to keep your vlog camera small and light. Admittedly, carrying 2 DSLRs at once sounds like a little bit of a pain, but if you can make it work I bet you could make some sweet BTS videos! Again, it sounds a little cumbersome, but having a good camera strap for you wildlife camera would probably make it tolerable.

    Hi, I have a Canon T6i with the kit lens and whenever I vlog my toddler it is trash at auto focusing (and loud) and I can't seem to get a good video. I am not the best with camera stuff so I figured I'd ask you for your opinion. I was going to get a vlogging camera like the G7X MII but don't think it would be necessary to spend a lot of money on that. What camera lens would you recommend for my T6i for vlogging with good focusing abilities that won't make a rattling noise? I heard the canon 10-18mm might be good, thoughts?Thank you so much for your help!! :)

    • @JoshWiniarski
      @JoshWiniarski  5 років тому +1

      The canon 10-18 is a very popular vlogging lens. It's nice and wide and should be fairly quick at focusing. The reason you are hearing what you describe as a "rattling noise" is likely just the lenses' motor. You might have the older EF-S 18-55mm . The newest version has an STM motor which makes it nearly silent while focusing which is ideal for video. If you like the focal range on the 18-55, i'd recommend the STM version (it's what I use it in all my vlogging videos like my most recent video if you want an example). If you use face detection to focus (which I assume your camera has but I'm not 100% sure) then a wider lens will help keep more of your face in frame which will help autofocus track you which is a big plus to the 10-18mm. Hope this helps, let me know if you have further questions!

I think it matches with the STM lens you mentioned but for some reason it does not give me the best quality as far as focusing (major blur) and some rattling when I am vlogging/videoing my toddler for home video purposes. Does the camera I linked here have the face recognition? If so, do you think the 10-18mm will help keep my toddler in focus more? Thanks again, you are a big help :) Are there any other lenses you would recommend to avoid this problem/ having to buy a vlogging camera like the g7x?

    • @JoshWiniarski
      @JoshWiniarski  4 роки тому

      Realistically, there won't be much of a difference in either of these lenses in terms of sharpness or bokeh, as they're both entry-level lenses. If you're looking for faster apertures and more sharpness in this price range, you'll want to consider the 24mm f/2.8, 40mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.8, 17-50 f/2.8 etc. Hope this helps!

    • @JoshWiniarski
      @JoshWiniarski  5 років тому +1

      That depends on a couple things. So typically a lens wont focus unless your holding the shutter button half down when taking pictures. If you're taking video it depends on the camera body. For instance, a Canon 80D or Canon SL2 has continuous auto-focus in video mode so the lens will automatically adjust without holding the shutter button down. Cameras like the canon T6 and canon 60D do not have this feature, and will only focus in video mode if the shutter is being pressed. Hope this helps, and if you have further questions let me know what camera you are using and what settings and I can try to help further!

      Depends how far away you plan to be. If you're looking at a lens like the 70-300mm, I would suggest the 55-250mm instead. It won't zoom quite as far, but it's image stabilized which will make the shot much smoother if you're filming video on a crop sensor camera. Hope this helps!
