    There will be lots more to come with this 18-135mm lens when I get a chance to take it out for a proper photo shoot.
    I hope this video helps at least give a good area what it’s a cable of at a glance.
    Do you have a favourite lens that goes with you everywhere?

    I use the Tamorn EF-M 18-200 on my M6 Mark II.
    It is my "Go to" daily lens and delivers sharp images across the range.
    For low light I drop on the Sigma 16 or 30 mm EF-M lenses which are brilliant.
    These 3 lenses also do not need a lens apapter so are "natural" fit.

    • @RustyRoj

      The Sigma 16mm is one of my go to lenses. I love it. I will definitely look at getting the 30mm one day.
      The Tamron looks really nice.

    • @ww1www
      @ww1www Рік тому +2

      @@Anthony2lars There is a black plastic ring at the camera end of the lens that is actually pretty easy to remove, and without it just snaps on the speedbooster. As far as I remember it causes some vignetting, so you need to crop a bit of the image.

    Just came across your video. I'm new to photography and it is quite daunting trying to figure out the best investments for lenses and a camera. I spent days looking at lenses for all sorts of brands, focal lengths, and second guessing which brand I was going with. I ended up getting a Canon 77D and this lens but was still unsure because every video claims to have the "inside scoop" on which lens and camera combo is the best. Thank you for the transparency and I feel more comfortable with my purchase. Looking forward to using my new equipment. Cheers.

      Glad I could help. I have a real love for cheaper lenses. And it’s always good to think about resale for when you do need to look at upgrading. When your learning, I believe it’s far more important to get the best out of what you have and only spend the big dollars on lenses when you have a really good idea of what you like to use. Best of luck with your photography journey.

    I agree with you RustyRoj, I got the 18-135 as a kit lens with my 80D and it's a great all-rounder.
    On another subject, I'm thinking of going mirrorless but not sure about the M or R lines? Do you have any advice? Cheers - Mike

    • @RustyRoj
      @RustyRoj  3 роки тому

      If you want an upgrade then I don’t think the M6MarkII would be enough of a jump from the 80D but then it all depends on your budget and if your reason for going mirrorless is to shrink your gear then the M6MarkII is definitely the most compact full feature camera. The native M mount lenses are smaller too.
      If you don’t care about the size and want the upgrade, maybe see if you can get an EOS R for a good price. Otherwise, if I was upgrading I’d probably be looking at the R6 if I was sticking to Canon.
      I hope that helps.

    My own go to lens for the EFM mount cameras will be the 18-150mm EFM lens. It's way more compact and very sharp as well. I had to return the 18-135mm EFS cos it was too bulky. I'd recommend the EFM 18-150mm instead.

    • @RustyRoj
      @RustyRoj  3 роки тому +2

      Yes the 18-150mm is way more compact. I recommend it to people too. For me I felt I got sharper images from the 18-135 but also it was half the price so I’m happy to live with the bulky ness.

    Nice video. This is a great lens and as been my main go to lens since I got it back in 2012. I have photographed weddings, portraits, pets, landscapes, zoos and travel with it. If I need a smaller lighter combo I swap it out for my 24mm f2.8 STM and 50mm f1.8 STM. I highly recommend it as a general purpose lens.

      One trick you could try is stand further back from your subject and use the zoom to get closer. This should help compress the background and give a little more of a bokeh effect.

    Thanks for this video, can you compare the telephoto pictures to other lenses that work well with the M6? Also, I think you would like the 18-135mm IS USM "NANO" (iii) + PZ-E1 (power zoom) + BR-E1 (remote shutter). Looking forward to your videos and pictures!

    • @RustyRoj
      @RustyRoj  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for watching. That's a great idea to do a lens comparison, though I would be limited to the lenses I own . I'll have to think of the best way to make it interesting and useful.
      I did look at the USM nano 18-135mm lens but I don't think I'd ever use the auto-zoom accessory enough to justify it. The STM lens has the same optics for a much more affordable price where I live, along with quieter auto-focus and slightly better image stability in my opinion too. Either lens is a great choice depending on how you would use it but the STM won out for me.

    I’ve been looking to find the best lens for portraits and street photography. I’m new to all of this but I’d like to get away from the standard lense. I do already have commlite adapter with a 50mm lens

    • @RustyRoj
      @RustyRoj  Рік тому

      In terms of carry around lenses with a decent reach then I love my 18-135 for this. The bokeh isn't the best with its high f-stop if you are shooting people but sometimes you need to make small sacrifices to simplify your set up.

    @rustyroj: nice video.. is the 18-135stm sharper than 15-45 kit lens? Thanks

    • @RustyRoj
      @RustyRoj  3 роки тому +2

      From my experience, yes. I think most who have done proper testing would agree from what I’ve seen.
      The advantage to the 15-45mm is the wider angle and how compact it is.
      I still use both all the time depending on what I’m doing but if I could only take one lens with me on an outing it would definitely be the 18-135mm because it’s so versatile.

    • @RustyRoj
      @RustyRoj  3 роки тому +1

      It is a lot heavier but it doesn’t bother me as it takes the place of two lenses so it evens out. If weight is a a concern for you then maybe look at the EF-M 18-150mm. It’s more compact and lighter and almost as good optically.

    How do you remove the vignette from pictures? I have as a adapter Viltrox speed booster

    • @RustyRoj
      @RustyRoj  2 роки тому

      If it’s a speed booster you will need to use EF lenses and not EF-S lenses. This is because the speed booster focuses the light inward to match the fov of a full frame sensor. This works well with full frame lenses like EF but if you use it with an aps-c lense like EF-S you will always get vignetting and the only solution is to crop it out in post.
      To get the most from EF-S lenses you need an adapter that isn’t a speed boost one.

    • @RustyRoj
      @RustyRoj  2 роки тому +1

      It’s a possibility over time but I haven’t had any issues so far at all. It’s nice and snug.
      There is also a lock so at 18mm at least I can lock the lens, preventing it from zooming at all.

  • @ixxgxx
    @ixxgxx Рік тому +1

    if that's the lens you are using for self blog here, best to go down to 16. 18 not wide enough.

    • @RustyRoj
      @RustyRoj  Рік тому

      You’re right, the 16mm I start the video using is a much better vlogging lens given it’s wider angle but if you can only carry one lens and need a good amount of reach while still being able to vlog, I still feel this is a good choice. Especially for the price.

    • @RustyRoj
      @RustyRoj  3 роки тому

      They’re are both exactly the same optically. If you can still get the STM it will be cheaper as the USM is the newer model. I feel the STM is a bit faster a focus but only slightly.

    • @og3139
      @og3139 2 роки тому +2

      The Stm is more silent and suitable for videos. If you are doing only photography the Usm is little bit faster at auto focusing.
      I have the Stm and for my opinion the Usm at the current price is not worth the upgrade over the Stm.
