As always! It is a pleasure to watch your videos, I wish i have the time and ambitions to make movies as you do. I am very excited today as i had a successful hunt myself yesterday with an awesome farmer who knows his business (Hunting), put me to a young stag that we take home! Thank you for your great videos again Thomas, have a very merry Christmas and awesome New Year!
Merry Christmas to you as well. Great to hear you got out hunting, I have to date shot only 1 stag and I must say that overall I find the reds a very rewarding species to hunt. Almost always nice scenery and long "deer contacts". Enjoy the upcoming season!
belated Merry Christmas...Christi and I are being kept very engaged with new GSHP pup "JET". your cinematography like Christi's horsemanship just keeps getting more & more refined...guess I know what you might become after providing "separation"...hope the girls enjoyed Christ Mass
Thanks CR, hoping to improve. Just back from another trip and looks like the new lenses/ camera was a good investment - I simply have more control over the images captured now.
Thank you for the great content. It's more than hunting, it's cinematography! I enjoy getting the notification when you upload a new vid. Keep up the great work!
Thanks for that Jordan, I've tried to learn new skills over the last year and hope to bring a new film every two weeks. I still have a fair amount of material, so fingers crossed I'll be able to maintain that ambition until March at least. I don't have a good track record with new years resolutions :D.
Yes quite. I like the early stuff best too, tend to get Pratchett overload when I read too many in a row. Neil Gaimann is also excellent, love Neverwhere. Didn't like the televised version too much, although the demon character is brilliantly done.
hey Thomas, I had a question in regards to your video "How to build a long range shooting system", what formula you use to calculate the drop between the long range and the shot range?. Thank you
For the windage I use a formula based on the relation between the distance and click correction. For drop I use no formula, but either Applied Ballistics, Hornady 4DOF, Lapua Ballistics (it depends on the bullet I use)
So after you zero at the short range (lets say 100 meter) then you shoot at long range (900 m) you get ur drop at 900 m in mils or moa. You compare the drop obtained from actual shooting no with the ballistic calculator? I thought u would calculate the drop between 100 and 900 m using a formula, therefore the values obtained are for the conditions the rifle and the ammo from actual shooting.
@@cheeta662244 No. I zero at a short range (around 100, exact range doesn't matter as long as you know WHAT RANGE you zero at.) I then enter my ballistic data into a calculator and get a suggested trajectory table. These suggestions are verified with live fire. An example here ua-cam.com/video/gug0jNJ62Bw/v-deo.html. Once I have my basic trajectory, I compensate that for changing weather conditions, example here ua-cam.com/video/pITUhPZf1MQ/v-deo.html. This is all incorporated into my BDC system seen here ua-cam.com/video/L9Yzyu3uXzc/v-deo.html
After verifying the drop with live fire, is the drop consistent in clicks whether moa or mil. I mean lets say the drop difference between calculator and live fire at 541m was 2 clicks. Would it be 2 clicks at 250m as well?
@@cheeta662244 no. You press "Ballistic calibration" on the calculator and enter your data. The ballistic calculator will now produce 100% trajectory. Much of this procedure have been eliminated with use of radardata such as in Hornady 4 DOF.
How do you find the accubond performing in your 6XC? I understand it is a stronger bullet than normal spitzer, and works well only if driven fast enough - how are your weight, speed, expansion and meat damage results ?
I haven't shot enough game to really say anything than "like it". It does the job excellent, I have a V0 of 920-930 msec if I recall correctly. But then again... shot placement & roe are easy to put down.
Ha! Normal hunting distance? I grew up in Maine were the normal hunting range was inside 100 yards. On Nantucket island it’s inside 50 yards. Here in Wyoming I took an antelope at 638, last year 600 and the year before 587 yards......Great filming.
Thanks Christian. It is Mechanix fastfit, not really a good glove but it's cheap. www.mechanix.com/us-en/taa-fastfit-coyote-government. Granqvist gloves are much better, but also 2x the price. www.norsegear.no/granqvist-m1009-desert-combat-glove-lambskin-beige.html I went with Mechanix because of price, but with hindsight I should have got another Granqvist pair. The Mechanix wear out much faster than the Granqvist and I haven't really saved any money. And the Mechanix is a veritable sponge in wet condition, seems to suck up water at the slightest touch.
@@THLR Was actually positive it was the same gloves you have been sporting throughout the series. Have had a few pairs of mechanics, but as you say they are not really great in the wet. Need to get a pair og Granqvist 👍👍
They are the same to me. With regards to barrel availability, R8 is the way to go and also the reason why I switched from R93. I was perfectly happy with my R93, but would not buy that rifle today (due barrel availability)
I like to feel like a big man, and in Scotland I'm a head taller. On a more serious note, my location dictates I have to travel 3-10 hours to any hunt I do, so Scotland is very managable with only 5.

Good video, I have watched every single one you have made...Thanx fer sharing !!.....Interesting why aging is done by antlers,...when biologically speaking, teeth are the most accurate.....
Thanks for that Eric. Allthough trophy assessment doesn't seem to be a big thing in Scotland, I suspect that the habit developed from judging live animals. For example the chamois I shot in Austria was judged from exterior and the head was retained and assessed by the "Tiroler Jagerverband" before it was released to me. Not sure what method they used, but the paperwork that came with it says "Alter 15, Bewertung I" and this was filled in by the "Bewertungskommission". I suspect they might have looked at the teeth.
@@THLR aha and how does perform on fox and roe? Does it make a good exit and blood trail? Meat damage on roe? I order myself a new rifle in 6,5creedmoor but still dont know wich ammo to use so any advice helpfull, im shootinf only factory load... What do you think about norma sirocco II bullet??
So far I have only had one roe move from the place it was shot with a 6 XC. That was a strong blood trail. I have found 6,5mm 120 to 140 gr bullets to be extremely reliable on roe. I would not use Scirocco, but any conventional lead nose or ballistic tip style bullet. I have had extremely good results with soft bullets such as Sierra Gameking, Nosler Ballistic Tip, Hornady Amax. If you use a big game bullet on the roe, you MAY have cases of insufficient opening and deer running away. I have mostly been focused on dropping the deer where it stands and have not been overly worried about meat damage. If that is a concern, I would use a copper bullet and be prepared to track the deer.
@@perninjo I was a bit unclear. Scirocco is a nice bullet, but I feel it is a lot more expensive than what is needed for roe. Roe does not require a bonded bullet.
