Hi Thomas, thanks for the video! Nice shots and a good hunt! I also like hunting for deer very much. It is still so original and alone to master. Thank you. Greetings Tom
Yes, deer hunting is what I come back to. Having limited time, I've simply decided to focus more on hunting and less on shooting competitions, so there will be more hunting films in the future. Good luck with your film projects, you certainly started at a higher level than me - promises well for your future films!
Roe is the first deer I started hunting, and a deer I always like to come back to. Excellent hunting and very little work compared to many other deer species.
I shoot the 6.5x55 but in old Gustav 96/38 mauser. Made in the year 1900 but is still in superb condition. I have a mild’ish load for it. 43gr IMR 4350, Sierra 142 SMK. Such a sweet shooter. Beautiful video as always friend.
I remember those. Shot a few but they've been overshadowed by the surplus Mauser M98 stockpile left behind here. Ballistically the 6,5x55 have always been good, almost same class as the 7mms. For us Scandinavians it is sort of priceless that we are now seeing a big US push behind calibres we've been using for a hundred years. Same thing with clothing, with the exception of fabric sofistication, they seem to be a few decades behind in the know-how. On the same note, I would have liked to see 7mms have an equally strong position here as there are just so many good bullets available there. The big 6,5mm push have only been in recent years with Hornady discovering the market potential.
Nice buck and good shooting. Always going for neck shots when close ? I'd think that you would have taken advantage of the Blaser safety system and going for "condition one"..... :-)
I go for whatever vital shot presenting itself the best way, I'll try not to run a deer through and burst the digestive system and the assosciated bacteria. Through coincidence, this season has presented a lot of shots giving me the choice between sharp angle, vegetation or with the first buck here, very close range. With the Blaser, I normally carry a cartridge in the chamber and uncocked, but I never transport the rifle in a vehicle with a round in the chamber. Sometimes I'm tired and busy with loading camera equipment and I simply forget to chamber a round. Better to have routines that puts my error on the safe side. People that hunt with me have noticed that I verbally declare the state of my rifle when I enter vehicles (or we meet up) "the rifle is empty// the chamber is empty // rifle is loaded and uncocked"...
the second buck seemed exceptional vs earlier animals you have videoed...savvy safety tip on having someone who knows where the houses, cars and expensive cattle are in relationship to your line of fire...would a truely high hocksitz give a safer trajectory?
It's not difficult finding deer on these ground, but knowing where to intercept and shoot them is a different matter. You have to KNOW where you can pass the hedges and access various fields, these can't simply be pushed through. For instance, the first buck was not shootable where he was, so we had to move into an adjacent field and hope he would come through the tractor gate and cross into that. Yes, hochsitz will definitively improve safety here, but I don't have the patience for that when I have the option of hunting with Iain instead.
In this instance it is Hornady 123gr Amax which performs like a big game bullet on the little roe. All conventional 6,5 bullets 120-140gr seems to do the same on the roe, Hornady Amax/ SST, Nosler Ballistic Tip/Accubond, Sierra Gameking etc. Can't tell them apart from the result.
I totally understand the need for a guide under these circumstances. That being said, if it's legal, would the use of an inexpensive drone with streaming capabilities, give you up to date information that might be useful?
Drones sure work, but the expense/runtime/task of flying/noise and total experience completely negates any benefits for me. I would need someone to fly the drone and I would need to carry a screen and everything would have to be high enough not to disturb, run for hours and have a camera capacity beyond private use.
Thomas I'm going to Norway in June. that you recommend me better to go with the family (I wife and 6 year old son). Oslo only! rent a car and move to a cool town ??? please tell me something. We will be there for a week. thanks Thomas
Sorry, no. Too expensive & I have wide feet and are limited to what boots fits and not what's best. I don't know enough about boots to do an eductational film.
As always perfect well done what a fine cracking border buck... loveing these clips of my home...
We should make an effort to have coffee next time I'm over. As it was, last trip was a lot of stress, deiving and queing.
lovely clear and bright video, thank you Thomas
Thanks, glad you liked it!

@@THLR Thanks a lot! I learned the first steps from your videos! Thanks for that! I am a real admirer! Greetings Tom
Thanks Tom, very generous of you!
Brilliant video excellent footage
Roe bucks are my favourite.
Excellent shooting

I'm glad you brought back the intro 😃
I think this is about as far as I'll go with voiceovers and flashy effects.
@@THLR I concur...stay the course silent Knight
Nice Roebucks with 6.5x55 Swedish cool ! I’ve been looking at the 6.5prc as a possible next caliber option myself .
It makes sense. Seems like everything Hornady puts their engine behind succeeds. And there is a strong development in 6,5mm bullets as well.
Great video Thomas
Thanks Antonio. Working on the next one right now.
Excellent as always sir
Thanks again Jim. Audio is not good yet, but I am practicing and trying to capture and stitch in better audio.

nice, so being in my wonderful land of Scotland, save me one!
There's plenty around, Scotland has a very good game population.
Добрый вечер очень интересно вы снимаете 👍👍👍 спасибо вам большое и удачи вам 🤝😊
Thank you, glad you liked it!
Beautiful shooting. Would you care to expand on the position of the stalker relative to your muzzle in the first shot?
More than 45 degrees off muzzle plus I asked and he ok'ed. GoPro lens isn"t good for perspective.
Now that's one Big Bull
Amazing isn't he? Had to stop and film him
It would be interesting to now the bullets you are using when you shoot.

I will need to do some research.
"click" Oops. We've all done it. Or at least I know I have 😆.
You don't feel too smart with that "click", but it all ended well...

Super Thomas !! )) Danke! ------>>>>> [+] =)

thomas: can u do one of educational videos about footwear 4 hunting? like u did 4 clothing ep 252?

@@THLR too bad. i think that u are talented enough in film edits to put a short piece together.
