Prospeed discontinued this rack and only have a new version that costs $400 more and doesn't look as good as the old version😢. Guess I'll go with Terrafirma.
Loving this video series this week. The prospeed rack looks awesome on the Discovery. I definitely want one for my Disco!! Great to hear that it doesn’t whistle or make wind noise. Have you noticed any drop in fuel economy? Will you be adding any more accessories, like a ladder or work light? Super excited about your overlanding in Norway videos. It’s something I’d really like to do as an adventure from the UK. Keep the content coming, this is one of my favourite channels :-)
Thank you so much Rich, you just made my day with your comment. :) The Roof Rack can't be faulted so far and I do really recommend it if you are not planning to put a roof top tent on it. I do not plan to put a lot of weight on it, only to have a place to put all the dirty stuff when I go on trips. The Discovery is only rated to 75kg, if you deduct the roof rack and floors you left with 42kg, and you can't find a roof rack that light. If you only have the roof rack you maybe could find a roof rack at 50kg but I haven't found one yet. :) I will be mounting an awning, 2.5m x 2m, a light one, and some camping lights and then leave some weight for carrying wood for camp fires. When it comes to fuel economy I maybe have gone up 0.1L per 10km but that could just be my driving. Usually is about 0.8L to 1L per 10km. I just calculate with 1L per 10km to make it easy. 23,52 mpg if the internett is correct. :) Norway is a mush if you can, not to far to drive from the UK and if you take the new ferry from Holland to Norway it's almost no miles compared to driving around. But Perry have done it many times now so way doable. :) Thanks again Rich, I will walk with a smile the rest of the day. Cheers, Simon.
Thank you, I bought it direct from ProSpeed a while back. Took about a year before I got the video out and just after the video was released they said they have stopped production. 😱 They are looking into making a new type of rack but I haven’t gotten any details yet. So I guess second hand is your best bet. 😊 Not sure why they stopped production but will see if I can get some info about it. 👍
Volvo PV with a Canoe on the roof, I would have liked to have seen that. A picture of that by a lake, can't get more classic northern summer vacation than that. . :)
Hey and thanks! It's Prospeed Uk who used to make these. They have come out with a new line of racks now, a bit more customisable and modular so shipping is much less. Mine is a single unit and freight cost didn't put a smile on my face. 😅 I am super happy with mine so they make quality products. I haven't tested the new one so I can't say for sure, but I would think they are up to the task. If you do go the ProSpeed way, let them know that Simon @landroverdrive sent you. 😉 Best, Simon.
Great rack that, the V2 of the one I have and I love how they integrate into the roof line and look factory fitted/designed. Enjoyed the music over the video too 👍looking forward to the road trip videos 😁
Hi Simon and yeah the rack definitely looks factory, something I really like. And I got to say that the best part is that there is no wind noise 👌 which probably would have driven me crazy on the daily drives. 😅 The Overlanding in Norway series is in the works but will spend a lot of time on it making the best release so far. 🤓 Many more other videos coming in the mean time. 😉
Hey Yoav and thank you so much! 🤗 I try to make the garage videos as helpful as possible so anyone can do it. I’m not a mechanic and personally I like when no details are left out. 😊 I already have tested it on some trips as you saw at the end, but I do hope I get to enjoy it on many more. 👍😊 Cheers, Simon.
Questions: 1. Why didnt they just sell a single piece top? 2. Do you put a tent up there? 3. What did you say the roof weight limit was? 500kg/1100lbs?
You mean a single piece plate? I guess the weight for one thing but also the modulation, you can mount them in different ways and together with other things. You don't have to have the plates on, anything can be mounted on top. :) Roof top tent, at the moment no and I don't think I will be doing so. If I was going the roof top tent way, on the car, I think I would have bought a hard shell roof top tent that can handle a load on it self, like the maxtrax, then I would have used roof bars and not a roof rack. Many alu hard shell roof top tents now can both have load bars on them and you can mount a awning to them. :) The roof weight limit is only 75kg for the car, if you follow the manual of the car, which we have to here in Norway. The roof rack can carry 250kg dead weight. Static weight, when the car is standing still. Dynamic weight I don't know and will find out. Dynamic is when the weight you have on the roof rack starts moving, while offroading, hard breaking or you impact with something. You maybe know all this but just putting it out there. :) If you hold a rock in your hand, you can feel the static weight. If you start swinging the rock from side to side or around, you can feel the rock getting much heavier. Thats the dynamic weight of the rock. Putting the weight on top of the car and the cars start going from side to side, off-roading, then the weight of what you got up there, say a 50-60kg roof top tent, becomes much more. :)
Thank you Aksel! It was worth the wait in the end. The new series is going to be epic, I can't wait to get stuck into editing the whole thing. :) Just seeing some clips gets me all geared up for a new trip. :)
Thank you so much! The price is in the higher end but it’s a solid product and with all the years of good reviews I think it will be worth the investment. If you only going to have a roof top tent on I would consider only roof bars. 👍😊
@@LandRoverDrive I must admit that I envied you a bit and started to think about such a rack for my Disco. But the costs would be high. For this time, all I have to do is admire your car 😜😜😜
@@arekguinness2342 Yeah I understand that, I had to sell the Defender to afford fixing up the Discovery and buying the roof rack. If you see the project discovery playlist you can see all the resent things I have had to fix. I have to save up for a long time to afford the upgrades so things take a lot of time but worth it in the end. 👍😊
Thank you Grahame! :) I use the quick rust remover spray to loosen it up and then the air compressor to blow it out. The quick rust remover spray has a compound that makes the liquid cold, down to about -30 to -40 degrees celsius, so it vaporises quit quickly leaving the holes dry pretty quickly. :)
@@grahameroberts8109 Yep, about 2cm deep and closes off :) 8 holes / nuts welded on - So think it should be prett strong and I won't have an issue alter on. Been some horror stories about roof rack mountings, but haven't seen any with the ProSpeed one. :)

Great stuff, but where did you get the rack? I’ve been trying to buy one for over a year, with no joy from ProSpeed!
