Should you fit a raised air intake to a Discovery 3 or 4?

- The Mantec raised air intake is built to the same spec as the genuine Land Rover part but a third of the price. So is it worth fitting and how good is it? I don't relly need one but man do I want one! I think the intake completes the adventure ready look I'm going for. (still want to fit light guards though!) so here's a complete fitting guide and a review on this rugged bit of kit.

I would definitely seal around the intake area
I think i would only alter the top if the turbo sound or traveling wind noise annoys you, has for ram air in to a turbo engine it just dose not work like that, the turbo controls the boost pressure. Merry Xams👍
Looks a well made piece of kit that. Thoes laser cut fitting brakets look like a work of art compared to some of the cheaper ones. Great vid... 👍🏻
Not sure about the ram air idea, Kawasaki and others used it on bikes for many years, it was worth something like 2bhp at 100mph on the early zzr1100, your Discovery already has a turbo ramming air in at a lowish psi, be interesting to see though.
All the best to you and the guys at LR, see you in the new year. 👍
there is no benefit on D3/4 from "ramming" air in :-) but good placebo for those who do. Preffer to weather resistant factory style, so no water comming in, as i sealed it propperly behind the wing so it is snorkel not rai
Good work. There was a Technical Service Bulletin released about water ingress to the car via holes in that A pillar which involved taping over any holes not used for the clips. It looks like yours hasn’t had that addrrssed. There is a little kit available from LR to address it. Worth doing if you notice you are getting water in the footwell
Wow, thanks for the heads up. I'll.lppl at sealing both A pillars up. Although I don't have any water ingress at the moment.
This is the Technical Bulletin No. LA-501-006. For the A-pillar water ingress (leak). Also keep an eye on your passenger side footwell carpet. The window screen cowl warps over time and lets water pass directly into the cabin filter and works its way down pass the fuse cluster into the footwell. I did my brothers a few weeks ago, was surprised just how much water entered!
Was it serendipitous that on the road test an earlier disco with raised intake was in the other lane?
Oh and there appeared to be a red flashing warning light on your dash, so that’s the next Disco 3 video sorted, fixing the next electrical issue 😂
Merry Christmas and happy new year
Just luck. I did give him a wave! The light is for the epb which is in need of some love. Big job though!
Took me 2 days due to care taken not to brake rusty bolts. Definitely use light gauge room taped on to help put all the lines back in the same way. May as well replace the brake shoes while you are there since you have to take them off. Bodsy’s brake bible very helpful.
That will be a fun video. Keep up the good work!
It makes me wonder if Mantec already tried the ram air idea and found it didn't work so decided to leave them blank.
I believe the original version produced for LR had slots at the front. Later in the production they blocked them off.
Interesting...
Interesting video - does it affect the MPG?
Doesn't seem to.
Tank empty, EPB fault, but fitting an RAI. My kind of humor.
Yup, get the important stuff out the way!
Brakes the clips and says someone else did it lol
I didn't break them all!
Sorry, it’s a gimmick you don’t need that devalues your vehicle.
