Got a new 800 the other day and it’s terrific. Only complaint I have is the small gas tank. My 2013 Toro 5000 has a 10 gallon tank (ish) and I can go all day.

I just bought a new Is700z (2022) All of the complaints I have read about seem to have been fixed in the newer models. More deck wheels, bigger tires front and rear. Mine has the suspension seat. I use the seat belt and the roll bar. Last summer I rolled my JD front deck mower. It is a bad feeling for your blades to be pointing up and the roll bar is stuck in the mud. I used mine for the second time today, still getting the hang of this ZTR but it does a great job, rides great and after major back surgery 20 years ago I am very mindful of machine seats and how they ride. The dealer did not put the grease zerks in the front spindles, but reading the manual told me what to check and what should have been done. Mowed once and had a flat tire, but that comes from mowing my place.

Hey Aaron, just a quick follow-up to let you know I bought a used 2020 ferris 800. It has the 27hp briggs, 61" deck and full air suspension seat. It only had 276 hrs on it and was very well maintained and looks like new, so hopefully it will last me a long time. I did have the hydro oil and filters changed, but everything else was up-to-date. I've only mowed a little with it, but I can already tell that the ride and productivity is much improved for my property! Thank you so much for your feedback and help! Merry Christmas, and I hope you have a great 2023!

My ISX 800 also lost one of the air filter thumbscrews, sometime while mowing for 3 hours!

I have an 800 Ferris with a 61" deck and I love it. Mine's got 450 Hrs on it. The seat on mine also leaned back too far. I took a piece of pressure treated wood I think about 1-1/4" or 1-1/2" square, used zip ties to strap it to the cross member that the seat rides on and that pitched the seat up right where it's comfortable now. I know what you mean about the ROPS hitting low tree limbs. Even folded down, they can catch a branch and if you're going too fast it'll flip it right over on it's back. I've never had mine go right over but the front casters came up several inches. Like you said, it really gets your attention. Nice video, Thanks

Thanks for commenting! I never did anything about the seats but I was sure what to do yet but that sounds like a good idea. Thanks for the info! They are awesome machines!!! How does a 61 in handle hills? Or do you have hills? Just wondering if the wider mowers are better on hills.

@@aaronstractorstuff7521 My Ferris seems to handle hills just fine. I do one lawn that's scary steep. The casters seem to be kind of light, not quite bouncing but it feels like they want to while going up the hill in one spot. I go pretty slowly and have the ROPS up and the seat belt on. It's as steep as I would want to do. I don't think I'd want to traverse the hill though. The mower seems to want to drift down hill, kind of crab walking if you will, on really steep hills. I figure that if I don't feel comfortable doing it then I don't. One thing where the Ferris is no good at all is wet spots where there's standing water. I have a John Deere lawn tractor that can go through spots like that with no problem at all. That weighs 650 Lbs while my Ferris weighs 1100+ Lbs. The only reason I can think of is the weight. Other than that, I'd never be without a Ferris if I could help it.

@@douglaspost8480 okay. My lawn tractor will drive straight through a little standing water and it weighs 750lbs. My ferris going straight usually just gets sucked up in it even though I'm going fast through it. It weighs about the same as yours. Something about how the weight is or something. Most of the weight is in the rear of it. Maybe that's different too. Who knows. Thanks for replying. I thought a wider mower would do better on hills.

mtd invented the suspension for a zero turn first what this is based on. In sure they pay royalties to mtd to use there design. first came out in 2006 ish cub based there commercial tank series on the mtd platform. Truly the shocks are not needed nor is the rear suspension. The articulating front with a suspension seat is more than enough.
These are nice mowers. They are going to far though they could dumb down the engineering like the mtd models its based on. In my mind is see it as slowing down the ground following by adding the shocks.

I know what you mean about the seat sitting too far back. Mine's the same way so I zip tied a block of wood about an inch and a quarter thick on the cross member the seat sits on. That sits the seat up just right and the zip ties have lasted several years so no worries about them holding up. I really liked the mowers up until recently. It runs rough and back fires intermittently. I've had my local Ferris dealer look at it. They've rebuilt the carburettor and checked other things and $400.00 later it still does. It's only got a little over 500 hrs on it. Guess I have to look for another mechanic.

I bolted a 2×4 under the seat on mine. 😆 it works great!! That's always frustrating!

That 700 can be backfitted with a suspension seat platform.

I’m getting a new Ferris-is 600 for this year and hopefully it won’t give me any more trouble compared to the old pony tractor I used to have I’m ready for a good mower that’s going to last 🙂

My Stihl dealer sells Ferris mowers as well as the Stihl line of products. They must be pretty good stuff for him to sell them.

Do you recommend this isx 800 for 1 acre? I prefer the speed, agility and time saving aspect and I think this would last me a lifetime. Worried about it being overkill or something or it being too much mower for 1 acre. I have a JD D170 54" (I know not apples to apples) and I am tired of moving at 3 mph and turning the darn steering wheel 100 times per cut.

I bought the ISX 800 for my I acre lot for 3 reasons. First, I wanted a high quality unit that would last a long time. Second, the seat comfort was much better than the lower priced 700 model as I test drove them both. Third, I wanted to mow my lawn/yard in about 30 minutes. It is more of a yard than a lawn with bumps and holes. Very pleased with my decision. You really do get a high quality unit.

@@brucefredrickson9677 thank you for your quick response and feedback. Those are my points exactly. I figured it will last and it would be the last mower I would need to purchase as long as I maintain it. It’s up there with some of the best as far as quality and performance for the price. Thank you.

Hey Aaron, nice video. I'm looking at buying one of these mowers for my personal home use because my land is old farmland and really rough, but the prices have gone up by 30+ % or more since this video. My question is, how much real-world difference in comfort can you tell between the old style suspension setup on the 700 vs the newer fully independent setup on the 800? Do you think that for comfort difference the $$ would be better spent on a 700 with a better suspension seat, or on the better suspension of the 800? I know the ultimate would be the 800 with an air ride seat, but the $$ now for that are prohibitive for me right now. Thanks so much for your feedback!

    • @aaronstractorstuff7521
      @aaronstractorstuff7521  Рік тому

There is a substantial difference between them as far as comfort goes! I checked on a couple really rough yards i mow and it cut off around 1/3 of the time because the bumps didn't bother me. It's amazing!!!!!!! But the new 700 has the suspension seat now too. Otherwise the only differences would be price and the 800 has a little bit heavier transmission and the suspension on the frame is a little different but if they both have a suspension seat i don't think you'd notice a difference.
That's what I was told by a salesman. Also you might consider the 600 too. It'll be somewhat cheaper and you can get a 48 or 52 inch deck. That's only 4 inches different so it probably doesn't cut too much time off if you got the 52 but there would be a little bit. You would be able to get a little closer to things with the 52 also. My friend bought a 600 this year with the 52 in deck and I think it was around $7000.00. It goes just as fast as my 800. I got the 800 because everything is a little bit bigger and I bought it for commercial use. I know how it is trying to figure out what you want or need and what fits your budget. 🙄😆 Hopefully that helps!! That's why I made this video.

@@aaronstractorstuff7521 Wow Aaron, thank you so much for your quick and very detailed reply, and yes, that's extremely helpful! My current zero turn is supposed to be sold by the end of next week, and then I'm going to go out and take a look at the ferris mowers. A couple of the dealers I spoke to on the phone told me the 800 is the way to go for my needs, but the cost difference is substantial, so I'll take a look at the 600 and 700 too. I'd prefer the 61" deck just to lessen my cutting time, but my current deck is 52", and I could definitely still do 52, especially since I'm sure my cutting time will be lower with the speed difference that I'd gain with the ferris suspension. I'll let you know what I wind up choosing, and my experience with it afterwards. Thanks so much again for your detailed reply, and have a great weekend!

@@anthonyblanton9006 you betcha!! Okay......yeah a 61 in 700 or 800 are pretty expensive. I bought my 800 the spring of 2021 and now i checked the price and it's $2600.00 more. Crazy!!!! 61 vs 52 I'm sure you'd notice a difference in cutting time. I've never used a 61 inch. I thought about it but a lot of the yards I do are small town yards and the 52 is perfect. 61 would be a little too big for some of them. You'll be able to fly over bumps and hardly notice them!!! 😃

shaft robs to much power so you would have to have big engine and shafts would be to heavy in yards
