I've been a hardcore Tesla fan for years, but this is what I've been waiting for. Finally, someone made an amazing 7-seater EV with efficient use of space, and it even has a frunk! Lucid has grown on me.
Very cool interview. I usually find car designers discussing their inspiration and themes for design to be pretentious. Here, I found the ‘landscape’ and related ‘mid-century’ themes actually interesting and clearly executed.
Why are you nervous?! You have a great looking car there! Be proud for designing it! This what i want, my next car, far way more better than my model y! Lucid Gravity, can’t wait to have you!!😍🔥
As long as Saidi’s keep giving the company money, they will hang on. Their production of their high priced vehicles has been so low, that doesn’t cover high cost to manufacture. They loose over $100k per vehicle & thus not sustainable. Rivian still looses quite a bit per vehicle.
Love how the Lucid vehicle looks and performs. On the 3rd Row, how far forward was the 2nd row with the gentlemen in the back? It didn't look like it was all the way back. Too bad the seat that was folded forward blocked the view to see if the seat was pushed all the way forward to give the 3rd row max legroom.
I think I read it can tow up to 6000 lbs. How well will it tow ? What I love about this vehicle is it is efficient , it has excellent range and it can tow . There are few EVs that can do all those things well. Plus , their technology, including their amazingly designed motors, is top notch
Where is the charging port and what is its 400v charging speed? Did they resolve the issue with the 44kw max on the most abundant charger in North America by a factor of more than 4 times that of the rest combined? Do they split the pack in two, or use a proper 400v on-board charger? What is their solution? And is the port on either the passenger front or the driver's rear? Those 2 issues are what's hammering the sales of the current Lucids. If they haven't solved both of those, they might as well fold now. The sales of the Gravity will be as low as the current ones are.
One reason the Prius can't match the drag coefficient of the Gravity is because it's not an EV and lots of exposed exhaust system holes underneath. You can't put a cover over that stuff.
True, plus it's a larger and longer vehicle which I believe does help with drag coefficient. And also a bit silly to compare to a different vehicle like the Prius, because since the Prius is smaller even if it's drag coefficient is a bit worse, it may have a lower drag force due to it's smaller cross sectional frontal area.
@@frankcoffey agreed, I was just pointing out how they tried to compare it when Cd is literally only one part of the drag force equation and it's length also helps along with what you mentioned.
For pricing, expect it to cost about $15K USD more than the Air of any equivalent trim. So, if a well equipped Air Touring is $100K, expect s similarly equipped Gravity to cost $115K. This is from speaking with a Lucid store manager.
If only they do childseat tilt for 2nd row and wondering if there is a space for 3 true seats in 2nd row as well. I also wonder if doors with frames are better for SUV and give better noise isolation. Still - this is mega - can not wait for Pure Version in EU !!
5:27 thanks for asking that question. Not sure he was able to explain or answer it. Like was he referring to the vehicles rake or attitude? Or maybe just some marketing BS injected into the tour. Edit - ah see he is the interior design manager, so perhaps just regurgitating other talking points that he isnt as familiar with.
My guess: They went with 23” wheels in the rear for aesthetics, but stepped down to 22” wheels in the front for a smaller tire diameter, which helped lower the hood line for aero. Because EVs don’t have a center differential, there’s no need for the front and rear tire diameters to be equal. A question I’d ask: we know larger diameter wheels with lower profile tires have higher total weight and higher rolling resistance, but are aero-focused large wheels more aerodynamic than aero-focused smaller wheels?
I get the "I was a smart phone baby" interface, and I understand the compelling cost savings and simplicity of a software UI vs hardware controls, but I am very much not convinced it is an appropriate interface for controls typically used while driving a vehicle or to even have available to the driver of a vehicle. I think all of these controls on a screen are a fad that will go away when either something better or legislation forces change. If it were not for road and wind noise, kid noise from the back, etc. then voice might work. Otherwise, I suspect physical controls are going to return for a great many functions currently only on the screen.
It’s cool and I would love to drive it, but it looks like a large Hyundai family crossover rather than a high end luxury car. Maybe with different wheels and black paint?
80-85K.. cheap car with all these features and crazy/fancy design. People are comparing this car with Tesla/Rivian SUV 😂 No comparison at all. This piece is in the another level
@schorschoppenheim1825 Who in their right mind will sell that for 40k? Although, I do believe that they need to come up with a low priced vehicle that will hand high margins and still have the other expensive luxury models. No one will see this and say they want a Tesla.
It’s a nice looking suv , far better then ugly model Y or x , its better than Rivian although Rivian is better then model x , however a smaller lucid suv would be great a mini gravity .
I've seen the show car twice at the Lucid studios in West Palm Beach and Miami. What it most evokes is the R-Class Mercedes of yesteryear, which was itself a cross between a minivan and an SUV in terms of looks. Frankly, I think that's a good thing. I just don't get the visual appeal of these tall, hulking, often boxy SUVs that block lines of sight all over today's highways. It's as if everyone has entered a race to see who can sit highest above the road in the largest, least efficient vehicle possible. The combination of their space-robbing huge engine compartments and their high centers of gravity that degrade driving dynamics all hold little appeal to me. Lucid pulled off a miracle of space packaging with its Air sedan. Kudos to them for now bringing a sleek, well-handling vehicle to market that has almost the interior volume of a Cadillac Escalade or Chevy Suburban in a package that is almost four feet shorter.
Can they make enough to meet demand? Does it go as far as they claim? Can recharging be done easily at any recharge station? Can warranty problems be dealt with efficiently? Because the Air missed the mark even though it looks really good and on paper is amazing.
I enjoyed the Lucid Gravity review. Not sure if Lucid is incorporating any vehicle security. With the astronomical rise in auto thefts, I would have liked to see more security features, such as a biometric immobilizer, vehicle motion alerts and tracking too, given that SUV's make up the majority of stolen vehicles in north America.
I have the air and kept hearing how it looks like a Buick. After I got the car, I have to say it looks nothing like a Buick. I am positive this car will look nothing like a minivan in person.
as long as the price is reasonable. But, all the EVs still cost too much due to battery price. Battery price alone is around $20k. I'd say we have to wait another 3-5 years for it go come down significantly. Great car, but I pass.
There seems to be zero excitement surrounding this old-man-looking car. take a look at Rivian-they’re creating some cool-looking stuff, and even they are facing challenges. What chances does this Saudi-owned company have?
I heard Rawlinson speaking about wanting to have as much or more space than a minivan. It looks like a Kia Carnival. I love Lucid, not knocking them, but this just looks more minivan to me. The 3rd row up and the cargo space is small. I think my Rivian has more cargo space with the 3rd row up. I love the frunk on this, I wish my Rivian opened like this does. Having driven the Air, I dislike the curved edges screens, it cuts apple play and is just not as functional as squaring it. I would prefer the option to have Apple/Andriod car play on the main pad screen, I like the tile spaces and the wrap around dash.
80K? Wide range of consumers? I think not! Yet another potential nail in Lucid's coffin. 50k should be the most for any ' luxury' vehicle in my opinion.
What a Beautiful Vehicle. Out of all the EVs this is the one that I like the most.

Great review for cool suv, Gravity is best future for Lucid motors

They are excellent vehicles. Already have a Sapphire, and will preorder Gravity in a couple of weeks.

Finally the only 7 seater Electric SUV that really has "7 seats"

Beautiful vehicle and luxury ❤️
I will do my best to get one of those 🙏🏼
Compared to the Tesla this is like the Mercedes-Benz of electric EVs that Mercedes couldn’t make.
Amazing interview with some great tech.
Hope Lucid will succeed. Lucid Air is such a solid car and the same will apply to Gravity as well.

I like the exterior and the interior. And most importantly, the range is better than that of any competitor; it is a luxury that's not annoying.
Does it have smart cruise control like GM Super cruise or Ford Blue Cruise?
Did he mention the NACS port ?
Other then the front wheels being smaller then the rear ones and the touch sensitive controls this electric SUV is almost perfact...

I want this car so bad!! Is it "dangerous" to buy a car from a company that hasn't shown much profit to this point??
There's always a risk with a startup (look at Fisker, for example), but Lucid seems to be in it for the long-ish haul.
"surfacing inspired by aeronautics" is marketing speak for "I'm not sure what exactly I'm talking about, but please think of us as high tech"

Buzz is 10" higher. That gives it the Buzz the proportions of a van. Lower Gravity makes it wagon/MPV ish.
