It is evident that Lucid was born in Formula One Electric. This level of energy and space efficiency is core to Formula One, be it ICE or BEV. Kudos to them. The odd thing when listening to their comments on manufacturability, why do they make so few cars? In theory they should be in the 100’s of thousands by now. The problem is not the engineers, it’s either their manufacturers or management…. I suspect the latter.
Really enjoy the technical deep dives provided by this channel. When everyone else is regurgitating specifications your interviews with the engineers behind these amazing vehicles is truly inspiring.
Great technology and enthusiasm from the team. A real shame is that the whole company (Lucid) is now worth less than 7 billion dollars (Petty cash for Tesla) Lucid has fallen another 5% today having already fallen 45% in the last 12 months. I do hope that even if Lucid fails into bankruptcy that all this great technology lives on with a company that will use all their great research and patents. It is very hard to see how Lucid can scale to profitability fast enough to survive. Lucid Motors, a California-based electric vehicle has lost varying amounts per car sold, including: Q1 2024: Lucid lost around $350,000 per car delivered Q2 2023: Lucid lost around $338,000 per car made Q3 2023: Lucid lost over $227,000 per car sold March 2024: Lucid lost $400,000 per car sold
Cool stuff however I have to point out that lucid neither designed engineered nor manufactured their headlights and micro lens array. That was done by a supplier.

I’m starting to understand that Lucid is marketing themselves more like a watchmaker than a car company. They use terms such as “in-house” as a differentiation because there are cheaper and more efficient systems out there but that doesn’t seem to be their goal. They are marketing luxury and technical novelty over profitability.
they have been upfront about being a luxury electric car maker, and making other luxury ICE manufacturer as their competitor, but they're bleeding money in achieving their goal in a market share that are too minute to begin with. It's important to strive for ambitious goal, but more importantly to make money while you're getting there, which is what Tesla did. Doubt Lucid could achieve that without someone like Elon at the helm.
Wow, I knew Lucid had some impressive engineering, but I feel like this is next level. Aesthetically those drive units are a work of art, completely aside from the compactness, efficiency and scalability. The differential inside the rotor was genius. Having everything balanced and inline with the axle surely cuts down on NVH as well.
When you compare this technology with what Volkswagen or Audi offer, it's no surprise they want to keep building combustion engines. It's truly striking how much more advanced other companies are.
Rolls-Royce, Maybach, Mercedes, Porsche etc need to be discussing with this company..this is not mainstream or cost effective manufacturing in any way whatsoever.. Lucide is a nemesis, an enigma, a weirdo within the EV.. probably like thier CEO..

Next I'd like to see their drivetrains meet lightness. What can be replaced to drop weight? Will Aston Martin really get their drivetrains? Or more? Curious to see what can be done with higher ticket cars. Carbon battery modules? Integrated battery box and chassis from carbon? A clever BEV drivetrain with a clever McLaren-like chassis could challenge the gas powered Porsche 911.
You arnt going to get much lighter than this on the drivetrain side. The vehicle around it has to be lighter. And more energy dense cells would be lighter.
That twin rear drive unit allows a very capable RWD sport/supercar like the Porsche 911 GT2RS, AMG GT Blackline, etc. Mate it to a battery that is not overly big and a light chassis and body, and total weight could get close to that GT2RS or Ferrari 12cilindri or Aston Martin Vanquish. Torque vectoring is very handy and the twin motor allows ~700 hp for a lot of time with higher peak bursts.

Think I speak for many when I say we know Lucid makes well engineered products but it becomes a moot point when their products are priced out of the general market. Volume drives prices down and current price points within the current Lucid product line will not sell in volumes. Next I'll watch a video how Patek Philippe are made. ;-/
Lucid has a problem trying to be perfect, when it just has to be good enough. They are working on the flat part cost curve where a huge amount of money only gives you a little gain.

Their paper is virtually worthless. If they ever start making money, the profits go to the Saudi princes. Anybody can make a great product if you throw heaps of cash at it. The secret is making a good product that people can afford. This is what put Detroit on the map 100 years ago, and what makes Tesla a world-beater, actually able to compete with the Chinese, even in China! My dirt cheap new model 3 went 10.9 seconds in a quarter mile at 125mph, and goes almost 4 mi on 1 kilowatt hour. And the price of the car was virtually pocket change.
When I know that Peter Rawlinson was the CEO of the company and that he had been fired from Tesla and yet he was receiving the highest salary in the world, I knew that the company would not succeed.
They have every tool to be successful... sadly I only see one car driving around.... amongst many other Ev . Heck, I see 10X more cybertrucks . I think they need new leadership

No, but plenty of them have been examined and quality checked, and it wasn't good !! Between poor paint and gaps, plus cheap materials. They're not even as nice as cheaper vehicle. They're better than a couple of years ago, but sadly, they are not as good as they should be.

In the future when Gravity affordable model late 2025 and mid-size suv, you all will see the technology that lucid had. Technology is a key 🔑
Tesla would also be bleeding money, they just have more investment coming in. Tesla is not funding their r&d with earnings. Not by a long shot. Lucid, Tesla and all other players in the EV game know that this is a technology race won by dumping money into r&d like there's no tomorrow.

Profitability in the manufacturing industry doesnt happen over night. The constant expansion that comes in that industry is not free. SO I dont understand why you are shocked? This is basic economics
It may be argued that Elon Musk is the greatest engineer alive today. But it cannot be argued that he is the greatest salesman that ever lived. He is the king of government subsidies.
Those subsidies are available to all manufacturers if they choose to qualify. Elon actually advocated against them but he’d be a fool to leave them on the table. You know this. So stop making yourself look stupid.

We did a teardown on their motor and battery pack. Videos are on our channel.
Tesla should buy Lucid and integrate their powertrain and other technologies into Tesla designs
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The factory is the product, manufacturing at a profit is the point. Who cares about their engineering if it misses the point.
Could silver windings be used to reduce heat losses? Would that work, and if so, by how much? Especially for performance use, it might be worth the extra cost. Around a euro per gram of silver.
Think I speak for many when I say we know Lucid makes well engineered products but it becomes a moot point when their products are priced out of the general market. Volume drives prices down and current price points within the current Lucid product line will not sell in volumes. Next I'll watch a video how Patek Philippe are made. ;-/
the 2k mould for the frunk must cost a fortune...
Lucid has a problem trying to be perfect, when it just has to be good enough. They are working on the flat part cost curve where a huge amount of money only gives you a little gain.
Loocid motors is the next FISKER.......😂
Still just a load of posh talking that's all Peter has taught them 😂. All this posh talking doesn't actually do any walking. Where are these lucid, lucids. None in Australia, I doubt we'll ever be able to afford one here. Nice talking about your fantastic FAMILY car company. How about you just get on with it. Ridiculous bla bla bla I keep hearing but shared are still falling. BYD is eating all your breakfast dinner, lunch and tea in Australia 🦘. Bye lucid
This really is impressive tech, but with Tesla just announcing their new powertrain tech for the cybercab will be of similar efficiency to Lucid they may have taken too long to scale up to take advantage of their tech. I think eventually they will just be selling it to a legacy automaker like Mercedes or BMW.
I really want to see the machine that inserts the copper weave into the stater.
I do wish them success. I generally like their designs & engineering. They need to keep aggressively working on costs ... they're still just burning cash like crazy & need to fix that before the Saudi fund decides to give up on it (which ... ya never know).
why ? does America need MORE unaffordable LUXURY cars.
besides the American LUX car market is almost DEAD. and Tesla model Y is the #1 selling LUX car in the USA.
@@markplott4820 And that has exactly WHAT to do with wishing a company some success? At least keep commentary relevant.
@JT_771 Loocid itself is irrelevant.
@@markplott4820 They rather are, yeah. But I still wish them well; see no reason not to.
MUNRO - please explain why Loocid motors is burning through CASH , without being PROFITABLE.
MUNRO - just have a think, Loocid is selling $200k cars that COST over $300k to make each ....😂
Are you new to manufacturing? Typically new factories burn a lot of money because expanding is not free. Tesla went through the exact same thing when it started, so its really not a new concept.
It’s about the machine that builds the machine.
LUCID GRAVITY SUV OF THE YEAR 2024 2025 2026 🏆🏁🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🎆🎇🎆🎇🎆🎇🎆🎇🕺🕺🕺😁👏👏
No doubt
GOOD MORNING🌞🙋♂️❤️ YOUSEFALHASHAN I'M WATCHING IT RIGHT NOW WHILE I WAIT FOR MY CUSTOMERS TO ARRIVE. HAVE A GREAT START TO YOUR THURSDAY MORNING MY LUCID BROTHER TOGETHER AS ONE LUCID 🏆🏁FAMILY❤️ ADDING ON AND HOLDING STRONG GOONIES NEVER SAY DIE!😉👍🙌💎💎💎💎🫡💯
@ 🔥🔥✅✅✅
I'LL BE BUYING MORE LUCID SHARES THIS THURSDAY MORNING HOPEFULLY 170 SHARES IF POSSIBLE YOUSEFALHASHAN 🤞🍀😁🙋♂️❤️😉👍
@ adding lucid share is always a good idea, whenever I got cash, I went to my investment account and make buy order.
By the time, we have to believe and wait ( which the most difficult thing)
Their paper is virtually worthless. If they ever start making money, the profits go to the Saudi princes. Anybody can make a great product if you throw heaps of cash at it. The secret is making a good product that people can afford. This is what put Detroit on the map 100 years ago, and what makes Tesla a world-beater, actually able to compete with the Chinese, even in China! My dirt cheap new model 3 went 10.9 seconds in a quarter mile at 125mph, and goes almost 4 mi on 1 kilowatt hour. And the price of the car was virtually pocket change.
Anti Gravity sounds way more cool😎
When I know that Peter Rawlinson was the CEO of the company and that he had been fired from Tesla and yet he was receiving the highest salary in the world, I knew that the company would not succeed.
Is “breakdown” the best word choice for the headline here?
Yes, because we already did our own teardown of their motor last year.
Never trust anyone with two watches.
They have every tool to be successful... sadly I only see one car driving around.... amongst many other Ev . Heck, I see 10X more cybertrucks .
I think they need new leadership
Why is so much horsepower needed for a vehicle, unless the vehicle is super heavy.
This German guy is trying to sell so hard. Guess ya gotta with billions in the red each year. I hope it works out for Lucid in the end.
I love that Lucid doesn't just pretend, but actually care for customers. Their work on frunks is exemplary. Basically ruins me for all other EVs that immediately look like LAZY design.
Lucid goals to make cars more sustainable all by lucid technology.
Can you afford one? .... at the end they have to sell cars.
@@CHMichael I couldn’t afford, but there are people can afford. Also when it comes to mass production, lucid promises to bring three different models for its Midsize platform, they are in the clay phase now.
@@CHMichael Here in Saudi I see it more than any other EV
‘Twice as powerfull’?- compared to weight? How efficient is it compared to, say, a Tesla motor?
4 times the price compared to Tesla.
Lucid cars are incredibly efficient and beautiful !! The real problem is that they are extremely expensive !!! If they could come up with an affordable option or two, they would do really well. Tesla is phenomenal at technology, but let's be honest, their build quality isn't good.
Clearly you have not owned a newer Tesla.
No, but plenty of them have been examined and quality checked, and it wasn't good !! Between poor paint and gaps, plus cheap materials. They're not even as nice as cheaper vehicle. They're better than a couple of years ago, but sadly, they are not as good as they should be.
I own 2 teslas. A 2022 model X and a Cybertruck. Prior to that i owned a 2019 model 3. The fit and finish is better than any car i have owned and at 71 i have so many. Do you even own a car? Are you even old enough to drive? You sound like a teenager. Tesla sells millions of cars. Yes, millions.
@@rayc.8555 Tesla is a cheap car, thats why. Just because they sell a lot of garbage doesnt make it a good car.
You sound like a tesla bot. Just another EVer that can't admit the truth !!!! The fact you bought the pos of a refrigerator says it all. Good luck, princess 👸
The CEO of this company that is bleeding money like a wounded bull remains negative and spiteful of Tesla. How can you take them seriously if this is their mission?
Oh and this car looks like a cluster fu$&
The ceo of tesla is equally spiteful of lucid. What’s the problem?
It’s all investment to ghe future, lucid are in very critical part of any business, building factories, expanding studios and brand awareness. That’s all investment now for the future. In the future when Gravity affordable model late 2025 and mid-size suv, you all will see the technology that lucid had. Technology is a key 🔑
Lucid is expanding, building new facilities. Tesla lost billions and billions for over a decade. How quickly people forget.
Tesla would also be bleeding money, they just have more investment coming in. Tesla is not funding their r&d with earnings. Not by a long shot. Lucid, Tesla and all other players in the EV game know that this is a technology race won by dumping money into r&d like there's no tomorrow.
Rawlins is a pompous wind bag, constantly throwing shade, while lining his pockets with endless Saudi money. Meanwhile their current cars have no path to profitability.
Alot of pro Tesla comments. And you talking about Saudi money reminded me of the time Musk used Saudi money to get Twitter.
They said the same about Tesla
Profitability in the manufacturing industry doesnt happen over night. The constant expansion that comes in that industry is not free. SO I dont understand why you are shocked? This is basic economics
Love how these engineering deep dive and tear downs have become marketing videos.
All that impressive technology yet they have failed to do it at scale
Because its a new factory. If that still confuses you then take an economics lecture.
Tesla will look at their powertrain breakthrough, and find a way to improve on it.
WEhat a lugh . lets talk about vrap
The vehicle is amazing. But the business just isn’t working
These big watches of both... Looks kinda stupid
All very sexy but also extremely overly costly.
MUNRO - hint, Looocid motors wont ever SCALE.
😮
TLDW
MUNRO - in 2024, Loocid still has not figured out COST CONTROL.....😂
⚠️WAKE ME UP WHEN Lucid Motor make profit selling EV's 😂
MUNRO - from engineering perspective Loocid is a dog & pony show, a flea circus.
First!
Loocid motors in 2024 is not even using DISCREET castings in FRONT & REAR ends......lol😂
Dis ist dumb
MUNRO - hint , Loocid is lying through their teeth.
MUNRO - Looocid may be the Smallest motor, but the MOTORS dont last for MILLIONS of miles.
SOME Loocid cars have Burned out DRIVE units already & BATTERY packs too.
Looocid does NOT have a 1 million mile Drivetrain.
Unfortunately the Loocid motor design, does NOT last even 200k miles, the battery needs replacement in 1 -2 years.
MUNRO - hint, Looocid motors is the NEXT FISKER, let that sink in.
Fisker had to outsource their production and not nearly as competitive as Lucid
@MrCarGuy - Loocid is Fraudulent.
MUNRO - I thought this talk was ONLY About the Looocid motors Drivetrain.
then WHY are you wasting time on the very crappy Engineering of the FRONT end ?
the Looocid FRONT end is made , too Expensive.
its got LIE-dar, radar (also a LIE), and too many SENSORS when , only 8 HD cameras can do it.
MUNRO - the problem I see w/ Looocid motors is, there are way too many EXECUTIVES at the top , they have 20+.
need to cut to ZERO , still maintain Board members but operate FINANCIALLY lean.
Looocid motors in 2024 is not even PROFITABLE.
Tesla Motors in 2011 was not profitable. And they weren't for years after the Model S first delivered
@MrCarGuy - Loocid motors is OLDER than Tesla.
with nothing to show.
Loocid is ALL marketing & hype. it can't even outsell the model X.
fun fact Loocid motors is Fraudulent.
Love the engineering!
Too bad this American made car is actually 60% owned by the Saudi Kingdom🥲
Yours limited . is nothing. Your take my inventive
