To this day it amazes me how this channel is still slept on... The production quality of EACH video is off the charts. The information provided is invaluable. Keep doing what you are all doing
I think SG has earned a reputation for not simply driving a car and giving an opinion. They put a lot of effort into learning the background behind it and giving exposure to the unsung heroes and workers behind the cars that led to their creation. They have an appreciation for the work just as much as the final result. And automakers see that.
I dont drive an EV. Im not an engineer... Yet i loved every second of this video. These long form videos are so interesting and insightful. No one has done what you guys are doing, in any format. We appreciate what amounts to the "backstage access" of these companies and vehicles. Your hard work and dedication is second to none. You guys truly have created something unique here. Keep kicking ass boys!
I heard Cammisa talking about how much interior space there was, but seeing Jack in the third row, laughing with Mark is extremely demonstrative of what Peter is talking about when it comes to packaging! Wow.
The passion that Mark and Jack have for the automotive world is tangible in their work like no other journalists. The quality, content, and subjects of these videos are impeccable, and deserve recognition and appreciation far above what they get. Keep up the amazing work, guys.
What a fascinating individual. His principles and lessons resonate so much with me as a (much smaller) business owner - the "whole design" approach (never losing sight of the big picture), the constant worrying or babysitting of every little aspect, the "how does this product improve the customer's life" (instead of "how do we list meaningless stats") product design & marketing strategy. Wonderful to listen to.
My good God guys... You're just knocking out these monster productions lately! . Thank you to the Geese, their Partners (Nvidia etc) and the CEO and CTO of Lucid! . Hopefully this will cause Rivian etc to open up their doors to you 🙏
HUGE shoutout to you guys for bucking the trend and producing long-form deep-dive content like this. I know it's not necessarily as lucrative, but I genuinely appreciate you doing what you want to do because you're passionate about it. Your efforts are greatly appreciated and I hope this series gets the views it deserves.
Superb. No one has ever done this in any medium. And boy do I have more respect for Peter Rawlinson. He put up with Musk, and he was doing 110-hour weeks in his 60’s?! Holy moly…..
Thanks for a great interview. Peter will be remembered the same way Steve Jobs is, as a man who saw the future of a company and lead it there by sheer willpower and guts. I think Lucid will become the future Ford Motor Company of EV's and we as Americans are blessed that we have a country that attracts people like him.
Lol the same guy that can't bust a profit, sold 60 percent of his company to the Saudi government, and lied about the minimal work he did at Tesla? Lucid factories are last gen designs. And they recruit 2nd tier talent from top manufactures
At 30:24 Rawlinson briefly mentions licensing their technology to other car companies. I think this is the most crucial factor in Lucid's long-term success in the global car market. Lucid has the best/most efficient electric motors and the best/most efficient battery packs in the industry. Much like they did with Aston Martin and now (maybe) with Genesis, they need to continue to pursue licensing their technology and selling to other car companies. For an established legacy car company, they would get the best battery and electric motors on the market without spending hundreds of millions of dollars in R&D to develop their own, and with something that can't compete with a Tesla anyways. For Lucid they would sell technology and components they already have without having to build factories, supply chains, brand, market, manufacture, and sell cars to consumers. It's a huge win-win for both. Lucid should pivot from being completely B2C to B2B, with a little bit of B2C.
Love the emphasis on value consciousness rather than cost consciousness that Peter described. Really glad to see this documentary series and to learn how Lucid is undertaking this work.
If I ever am in the position to get a Lucid, I will because of this video. It's refreshing to hear someone talking with passion for the one main thing they are working towards innovating and inventing for the better of mankind. Some of the greatest inventions of all time came from different industries with happy accidents in making or innovating something on an EV that can be used to help lives in the medical field. He is a smart man with a purpose that doesn't have a god complex.
Thank you for presenting an intelligent discussion on this topic. I own a Lucid Air Pure (after owning 3 other EV’s, including 2 Teslas) and am continually amazed by the tech, drive, and constant software improvements. I have great respect for Lucid and will look forward to future episodes.
I can’t believe it took me SO LONG to find this channel. You guys are incredible and the interview with Peter was so eye opening and informative. Really awesome being able to see behind the curtain. Thank you so much for doing what you do!
Normally I'm here for the Top Gear/Grand Tour level humor but this is quite intriguing. I didn't think I've ever seen anyone touch on this before. Great work fellas!
I jumped up when Peter Rawlinson discussed specialism vs generalism. In healthcare, this is a conversation I have a lot. A theme of the 20th century was to hyperspecialise while losing many roles for individuals who knew enough about lots of things to have strategic oversight. This is true in engineering, medicine and many other fields. In the third decade of the 21st century, we're just learning how to recover some of the lost art of the "jack of all trades" to mix the best of specialism with the best of generalism. To listen to Rawlinson just "get it" about a theme I've spent years discussing with others is very interesting. He's a gifted man.
There’s a bit of Colin Chapman’s Simplify, then add lightness to this man’s philosophy that I feel should be elevated by the hosts. Instead of larger batteries, make them more energy dense and reduce losses. More efficiency drives weight loss, leading to more interior space & to a degree reducing cost. All touched on in the video, but it feels like Chapman at work in the modern age. Beautiful cars, I sat in one at the La Jolla Concours years ago and its interior was miles ahead of Tesla. I hope I get to drive one someday.
Awesome video! I like the fact that the commentators did what they do well, be auto nerds, not comedians. This was a very informative video in a way that nobody else is doing.
Amazing work gentlemen, thank you for this. I know there are a lot of people in your community who appreciate the level of insight you're able to gather from these folks, and I am really happy to see that you're getting the opportunities. Keep it up!
Very insightful. Great questions. This interview really gives insight to his personal background and thought process. After this interview, I can totally see why he left Tesla & his differences to Elon.
Such unique, compelling long form content. Any engineer in any discipline that watches these videos will be inspired to go back to first principles, love their craft and create great products.
I think this is the hardest I've seen Peter strain to think, you did a great job of having a really in depth casual conversation that got him into his thinking mode not just his media mode.
The budget question and answer was great. I'm an engineer in aerospace industry and has seen money wasted on dead end R&D projects because "use it or lose it." If you don't spend the funds this year, you won't get the funds next year. Having leadership that is able to identify valuable use of R&D funds is huge. Difference between being Engineer lead vs Project Management lead.
I've always appreciated lucid for being so open about their engineering prowess. This is a very refreshing change from all the other manufacturers which hide behind corporate speak and not answer questions related to engineering. Lucid is very prod of their engineering and it shows in their products. The attention to detail they have and the passion shows too! I'd love to own a lucid air one day! This interview was fantastic. I hope there's another follow up episode with a factory tour and other interviews with the product teams to delve deeper into the manufacturing and engineering process.

All were Gerry Anderson "Supermarionation" children's programmes. I forgive Peter for this tiny mistake as the shows were quite similar. Seems like only Tesla and the Chinese (but I repeat myself) can make good inexpensive EVs. Seems like only Tesla and BMW can make good middle market EVs.
Geese, Your work here is not only refreshing but important. I appreciate demystifying what is happening with Lucid and allowing us to “look under the hood.” Due to who they are and what they stand for, when the Gravity is readily available we (my wife and I) will be supporting the company.
One of the most memorable interviews I have heard or watched in a long time. That CEO is a visionary. Tesla used to have that vision of democratizing electric cars, it obviously has lost focus with things like the cybertruck.
Never seen a more delusional comment. Tesla's products are priced far lower, with lower priced models being prioritized before the Cybertruck _AND_ an even lower priced model prioritized after Cybertruck
Cometh the moment, cometh the man: Peter is a true gear-head and a humble leader. I cannot think of a more appropriate vote of confidence than to buy a Gravity as my next vehicle.
I think you could make some pretty big strides in terms of exposure and viewership, if you hired someone to cut up these longer form videos into digestible shorts or clips to get a more mainstream audience interested. Love your work, one of the best auto channels on youtube.
Boy, Lucid sure is a compelling auto engineering company. I hope they can emerge when the market has been against them with covid(supply) and now demand. I can't help but think the gravity should have been the first car made with a Truck/ Van version built on top of that platform. I hope the Saudis are patient and they get to make some product when the market rebounds and infrastructure is more supportive.
I mean the Saudis got plenty of capital from Aramco, I hope they are patient as their oil will run out and betting big on a company with the engineering talents of Lucid seems like a wise, and relatively cheap, move. Just look at their dumb projects like the Line city or the 1km skyscraper lmao.
This is true true car enthusiasm. I dont care what the marketing team has to say, how much power it has, or how many screens. I wanna know about the technical engineering and design philosophy. From the engineers and designers.
I just got through the intro and ironically enough, at work today, I was day dreaming about snagging a preowned Air Pure in a year or so or finding a good lease. I thought to myself how I hoped you'd do a long form series on Lucid like you've done with Mazda and some other brands like Honda. Lo and behold, here we are.
Thank you for carrying the automotive engineering and "maker" torch on YT. The mutual respect bw you both and the brand's personnel allows you to ask smarter, sharper questions that your core audience could never really ask. It's you, Engineering, and not much else.
Fascinating! I love the idea of a smaller Lucid-quality car with a 40kWh battery that could go 200km. In your introduction you mention marketing, and how true it is. We are starved for honesty in the products we buy. You've been banging that drum for years, and gradually you have broken through a lot of barriers with your channel. Nice work!
Mark, my dad has been in R&D at GM doing power electronics for over 3 decades now. You'd have some VERY interesting conversations with him. Development engineers get all the glory, but R&D is where everything starts. Also: MORE INDIAN ENGINEERS ON VIDEO PLEASE! Indians all over the world are the core workforce of every engineering team, no matter the manufacturer.
I have a lot of respect and admiration for Peter Rawlinson; a lot of engineering history, a lot of wisdom, now the head of a cutting-edge EV start-up. I want Lucid to succeed so badly. I just can't afford their Air. If they ever built something closer to my level of access, I'm in, head of the line. "Lucid exists to advance the state of the art of the electric car to benefit all of mankind." wow, Mr. Rawlinson.
Great interview. I'm still hopeful that these guys (and Rivian) make it through the early stages and on to better days. I bought 98 shares of Lucid at $2.11 a few weeks ago, and it's at $2.40 now. It's not going to be Bitcoin, but it's nice to keep an eye on it.
I am genuinely rooting for this company. I'm over having an I.C.E as a family/daily driver. Lucid air is the only EV I genuinely admire. Great vid Mark & Jack. Looking forward to Wednesdays. 👍🏼
Peter Rawlinson is slowly going from being the laughing stock of the EV world to gaining respect world wide. I think he is building something great and his passion and commitment are visible in Lucid's products. I am buying one
I think that having episodes about how the cars are produced and the engineering of the production line, is more interesting than the engineering of the car. Lots of companies have designed a car, but then failed to produce it. Like Lightyear, for example. They did all the engineering to make the most efficiënt EV, including functional prototypes, but it didn't matter. Production is the hard part.
It is incredibly frustrating the politicization of EVs especially when it comes from the general public that couldn't tell you the oil weight in their current vehicle. The propulsion method of the vehicle is such a weird thing to reflexively get polarized about.
Brilliant, looking forward to the rest of this series. I have to admit seeing pictures of the Gravity when it was announced I didn't care. But now seeing the packaging of the car, as Peter said keeping the car as small on the outside as possible while being as big as possible on the inside is quite impressive.
Superb and compelling interview. Congratulations on a very strong start to your new series. This will keep my returning to your channel. Mr Rawlinson's philosophy re. budgeting very enlightened. His final comment about not being distracted by politics even if someone else is - perfect note on which to end!
Holy shit! I just saw the new Lucid ad campaign. Yes! You build the best damn car!! That commercial has to be worth a point or two on the stock market. Finally a decent ad for Lucid. Love it.🎉❤
Look I don’t know if they’re paying you guys but they should be. Between this and the Sapphire video I’ve got so much respect for these folks. Looking like my first ever EV will likely be a Lucid or a Rivian (R3X) at this point.
First of all, I want to say is good luck on people calling you sell outs on EVs. Personally I love what lucid is doing, what you do and this video is incredible. ❤
On a side note a bmw I3s does 200miles with a 40kwh battery pack so this car does already exists since 6 years Otherwise truely enjoyable intervew and in deepth analysis as usual thanks a lot !! I am a True petrol head with an high octane collection but would love to have a Lucid as a daily sadly not sold here in France.
Brilliant insight!! Please, please do a series like this with RJ at Rivian !! Both Lucid and Rivian need the population to understand how advanced these vehicles are
Mark and Jack, your ACE. Lucid is without a question the best engineering team to talk to, to do an in-depth technical review of how to engineer the best cars (sorry Tesla fan boys). And would't you know, another former Lotus engineer makes good. Colin Chapman is looking down with pride ;-)
I am so looking forward to portions of the Gravity’s UI making their way into the Air. My Air is the best no compromise luxury daily driver that combines supercar performance and handling with the usability of a stylish and practical car. No other car does this quite the way Lucid does.
I don't care about EVs at all but as you said the engineering touches all vehicles, and as a kid that always dreamed of making his own cars, it was truely interesting!
in many ways, Lucid vs other Manufacturere is analogous to the SavageGeese channel vs other automotive channels. Higher quality, non boiler plate press releases parroted on schedule, drowned out by the louder and more brash competitors. Stay true Gents, we appreciate you.
Loved the density of information in this video. I still think electrification is fraught with risk. Lucid has styling and price issues, but those can be addressed. Electric cars are also at the forefront of "you don't own it, you license it" trend in automobiles (it was happening pre EV, and its only accelerating) that many (me included) abhor. And electric cars are primarily politicized because politicians tried to force consumers into them, either by allocating tax dollars to subsidize them, or flat out banning ICE vehicles going forward. Many of the issues faced by a company like Lucid would be far less critical if we had a governing class (in the west at least) that actually demonstrated competence, rather than demanding obedience to dictates not grounded in easily communicated facts.
Yikes. I want a Lucid. I knew they build a very good automobile, but I wasn’t sure they would be around long term. This interview gives me great confidence in this company.
Lucid is by far the leader when it comes to packaging imo. they put so much care into the layout that the massive space, cargo, range, are all side effects of their passion for good packaging. The gravity is definitely my dream "fuck you" money daily driver.
he's right on the 40 khw car being kind of the holy grail here, for the planet, for consumers, for sales volume, and you need EFFICIENCY to do that shit.... and you can't leave any stone unturned, design methodology, this, that, all the things.

Came for a Lucid Gravity review, stayed for the long conversation, didn't get to hear about how the Gravity drives.
Really nice content!
It drives amazingly well. As everyone who tested it.
The playlist (insight) I have always dreamt about as an engineering student!
Aw man, I felt all those shots at GM, specifically Cadillac. With the VISTIQ coming to market, I’d love to see a comparison in the future to Gravity.
Nice work!
A Lucid with a 40kwh would theoretically be in the ball park of 350 to 400 kms.
@@Alberto-xw8vx Ah, cool. I've never had an EV so I'm not familiar with range. Thanks
"Lucid exists to advance the state of the art of the electric car to benefit all of mankind."
wow, Mr.
Wow... I expected this one to be boring, but I was so wrong. Well done! Great guest.
Peter Rawlinson is slowly going from being the laughing stock of the EV world to gaining respect world wide. I think he is building something great and his passion and commitment are visible in Lucid's products. I am buying one
Fantastic interview. This is the real stuff. Lucid is the only EV company that actually has my attention.
The CEO is the definition of the word "gentleman".
It is incredibly frustrating the politicization of EVs especially when it comes from the general public that couldn't tell you the oil weight in their current vehicle. The propulsion method of the vehicle is such a weird thing to reflexively get polarized about.
Just dropping by to say thank you, Mr Goose.
Honk!
These videos are great. Thank you for going through the trouble to bring these in depth insights.
Love it.🎉❤
Imagine if Rawlinson and Gordon Murray would work together on a car.
Here's to hoping they can start turning a profit. Competition breeds innovation.
This is why I love this channel. Thank you for bringing this content to us.
On a side note a bmw I3s does 200miles with a 40kwh battery pack so this car does already exists since 6 years
Otherwise truely enjoyable intervew and in deepth analysis as usual thanks a lot !! I am a True petrol head with an high octane collection but would love to have a Lucid as a daily sadly not sold here in France.
14:10 Rawlinson to the industry: I don't think you ready fo' this jelly
Brilliant insight!! Please, please do a series like this with RJ at Rivian !! Both Lucid and Rivian need the population to understand how advanced these vehicles are
Love all these in-depth engineering interviews!
What an absolute documentary of a video. Great work guys. Enjoyed every second of it
Mark and Jack, your ACE. Lucid is without a question the best engineering team to talk to, to do an in-depth technical review of how to engineer the best cars (sorry Tesla fan boys). And would't you know, another former Lotus engineer makes good. Colin Chapman is looking down with pride ;-)
Telsa, Rivian and Lucid are all doing amazing work in the EV space. Unfortunately only one has figured out how to manufacturer a car for a profit.
I am so looking forward to portions of the Gravity’s UI making their way into the Air. My Air is the best no compromise luxury daily driver that combines supercar performance and handling with the usability of a stylish and practical car. No other car does this quite the way Lucid does.
this is so amazing, thank you so much mark and Jack, this is seriously so fucking cool
Love the fact that you said - "engineering first, instead of marketing and PR"
Peter sounds like a smart and reasonable person and I really hope they succeed
Thanks!
Amazing interview! Always look forward to another one
he's right on the 40 khw car being kind of the holy grail here, for the planet, for consumers, for sales volume, and you need EFFICIENCY to do that shit.... and you can't leave any stone unturned, design methodology, this, that, all the things.
Rawlinson says too many things without saying the actual thing. Good interview.
This is why I love this channel.
This is incredibly captivating. I cannot wait for more of this content!
This was such an amazing interview, thank you so much for this. Added this to my favorites!
