    I found myself looking at these traits and thinking of my younger self (I’m 48) and realizing that the younger me had none of them. It filled me with a brief sadness, thinking I would never be a high achiever. But I looked at the list again and realized that the current me had a lot of these traits. Not all. The point being, that these elements aren’t always innate. You can cultivate them over time.

      More importantly, a lot of whats said here is... total nonsense, not backed up by the literature at all. Personality, Character and Trait theory are so inexplicably linked, that you can see what they're trying to get at, but it's not actually a thing. personality for one is not described or measured like that anywhere in research except here. For that, check out MBTI, Hollands 6 types, 5 factors, etc. etc. etc. The other thing to note is, you do not have drive. You don't, its nonsense. Its how much drive do you have? Its not a binary answer its a 1 - infinity type answer, and more importantly, drive in what. So don't put yourself down, you're developing and you always will be, there is also only the mildest correlation between personality traits, vocational interests and success, in fact the link is so bad it really makes you wonder how the hell anyone would even try and make the connection. That isn't to say there is no link, but rather it isn't anywhere near as clear cut as most people think.

      @miesvaillanykyisyytta3252 3 роки тому +3

      This sounds like a false dichotomy. The more money you have, the more dangerous you can be because more money = more power. Example: Donald Trump. How about a surgeon? He or she is tasked with saving the lives of people using intricate scientific knowledge but he or she might also get away with doing a bad job intentionally because of the stature of his profession and the way doctors can protect each other; even bad doctors. Is that guy dangerous though? At least he does not go out killing people (most likely) and you don't really need any knowledge or fitness to do a lot of damage; just look at the Columbine shooters.

    When I hire staff I evaluate the candidates answers to the interview questions but an important factor is how a candidate will answer a question he/she doesn’t know the answer. It’s usually a technical question but the way they answer is a good indicator of how they will pursue the answer if part of my team. My gut feeling for hiring also plays a big part in my hiring process for the final selection.

    • @Kaleidoscope_Instructor
      @Kaleidoscope_Instructor 3 роки тому

      I was once offered a position in a technical field that I had a small amount of experience in. Before the offer, during my second interview, they asked a question like this and I answered honestly -- that I didn't have the experience to give a right or wrong answer, but how I would go about getting the answer, so on and so forth.
      I ended up declining the job offer for a different job that was closer and paid a bit more, but it was really great to interview with folks that appreciated the honesty and humility in my answer -- and also saw the willingness to learn and grow within the role. Glad to hear there are more companies out there with this mindset in the hiring process.

      I'd nominate Situational Awareness. All of the other 9 traits are invaluable, but you have to maintain a constant awareness of what's going on around you. That applies to every aspect of life and work, whether you're a truck driver, a soldier, crossing a street with your family, noticing a growing pandemic in the world, or running your business, you need to a constant understanding of your surroundings and what's happening, so that you can anticipate, plan, and act accordingly. Adaptability is only a measure of how well you can do this, but you need the knowledge and understanding of a constantly changing environment.

    "Adaptability" should be number one. Most people do not like change. As it tends to be change for the worse most of the time. But the only constant thing is change.

    This is a good list. I do agree with Jocko at 3:55 . A large chunk of a person's life is spent working. Anyone who is helping contain the chaos of work, effectively reducing the stress, is a likeable character. How much someone knows about Jimi Hendrix means little to me when I'm preparing food for 500 ppl. If we can work together and deliver on our objectives effectively, you could be Justin Bieber's #1 fan and I'll think you're good sh1t. A few screws loose, but good sh1t 😅👌.

    The only problem with this is that personality and character are the same what they meant was “Persona”, persona is the correct word for what they referred to as “personality”, I think everyone gets the idea regardless but wanted to toss that out there for anyone that got confused

    I forget what documentary I was watching but it was an Ex-Delta guy talking and he said the Army's Selection for The Unit isn't about finding the guy who can do the most push ups, run the fast mile, etc. It was about finding, "The Right Guy", he didn't really go into depth as to what that is/was at the time but I understood what he meant...
    Can you work well within a team? Can you learn to tolerate and thrive with others who you may disagree with on political issues, religion, etc.
    Team before self and mission before self...no other way it will work long term..

      I wouldn’t join people who’re homophobic. “ don’t ask don’t tell” 😂😂😂it took Obama to repeal it . but why would I want to prove anything to them when I know I’m tough? I’m cool with jokes from people I know but not cool with ft ( abbreviated the first letter and last letter of the word because UA-cam deletes me every time I cuss even if I’m quoting someone) the job I had the longest was moving furniture for six years since eighteen till pretty recently...they turned out to be not homophobic. we’d crack jokes and act goofy but one of the most respected guys was bisexual and he was 55 years old and an absolute animal. a big dude with a ZZ Top beard but very kind and just an awesome dude. he was married to a woman who thought it was hot. there was a guy who was homophobic and a bully with giant syndrome and one day we started chasing him around acting like we’d grab his butt . he said he never wanted to work on a three man crew with us or work a two man with the other guy “ Hogey “ .

    I was passed for a smooth talker and the hiring manager did not hire me. I got in 6 months later same place different department different manager. 1 year later the smooth talker got let go and the manager quite of that department. I was transferred to that department. 2 years later I’m now in the highest non manager position (SR Engineer). The hiring manager came back and is now on position less than me). I’m an introvert and kind of a weird person. BUT at work I do things that I think the manager won’t know or see. For every ten things the manager always sees one or two by an accident. They love this. Just work hard, do things for the reason of not being recognized. Don’t complain.
