      UPDATE: I passed my msf course this past weekend with flying colors! The biggest struggle for me was U-Turns at slow speed maneuver, BUT, the coaches provided me some feedback and applied it and I was making slow speed maneuvers in a U-Turn look like a cake walk! Go in with an open mind, ready to learn, receive the feedback and apply it and you'll do great!

    A friend of mine encouraged me to take the MSF course and obtain my license instead of just buying a bike and "ride dirty." I was happy that I took the course because I definitely learned some things on top of getting a discount on my insurance because I passed the course. The written test is mostly basic defensive driving knowledge. Study the acronyms S.E.E. , T.C.L.O.C.S, and F.I.N.E. - C. Other than remembering the acronyms, you should be good on the written if you pay attention. Mistakes while riding are ok! Just don't make too many lol. I think 16 points or less gets you a pass. Points are accumulated when you mess up. The biggest thing I can say is stay upright. DO NOT DROP THE BIKE. That could potentially be an automatic fail. Really, I'd say that 90% of people should be just fine. The instructors do not set you up to fail.
    Lol, I'm done now! Thanks for the video, 6! RESPECT 👊🏾.

    Just passed the course this past weekend. Was my first time ever sitting on a motorcycle. Dropped the bike once during braking in a curve. Pressed the brakes too hard and didn’t have the handlebars straight. Then to make matters worse I had to switch bikes before the test because the one I dropped wouldn’t turn on. Damn. Lol. Passed the test though so all good and got a nice lesson on emergency braking in turns.

    Thank you for this, 35 this year, never even driven a manual car, and that fact has my confidence about succeeding in the course low, but I've got my MSF course booked for early August. It's good to keep in the front of my mind that they aren't there to fail me - but they're there to help me succeed. Ridden a bicycle since I was a lil' jit, and still ride at least once a week during the riding season - mostly theraputic to get out and away, always wanted to ride a motorcycle but was just never exposed to it.

    • @6GearCutloe
      @6GearCutloe  Рік тому +4

      I'm glad you mentioned the Bicycle part. I'll probably make a video on that. Most people come to the course and haven't ridden a bike in YEARS. Riding a bicycle will put you ahead of the other for sure because you'll have the mechanics of riding on two wheels down. Shifting gears is only difficult when you first get started. Understand that it's supposed to be difficult because it's a brand new skill you have to learn. Understanding that will help you to not get frustrated. You'll only shift to second gear in the course, and you'll only do that about 5 or 6 times. No worries at all! You'll do great!

      @@uptownkickzz5931 Thank you! I just finished day 2 (day 1 on the range) and I was doing so much better than I expected, then I confidently layed the bike down. Did a no-stop slow approach waiting to go for the next part of the course and then I went forward when the person in front went - but they stalled and I quickly stop'd but it layed the bike down oh so gently. Embarassing, but no scratches or damage to the bike or me thankfully. The group I'm in is really great, 6 people 4 girls and 2 guys including myself, everyone's really upbeat and encouraging. I'm nervous for tomorrow, hoping I don't do something stupid again and it's supposed to rain, so if I pass I can atleast get past the unknown fears of weather and maneuvering around safely.

    Just finished day 1 of 2 of the MSF, was doing really well that I could lead the group in the drills. All of us struggled with the stop into low speed turn but have done some more research on how to get that going. I think the most important part of all this is to really understand what the drills are enforcing in your habits so youre safe on the road. Great vid Cutloe you a DAWG

    • @6GearCutloe
      @6GearCutloe  Рік тому +1

      That's exactly what the drills are for. They know those slow speed drills are hard, especially for new riders, but they want to show you how important it is to get comfortable with those drills because anyone can go fast but it takes skill to maneuver the bike in slow speeds. Thanks for checking out the video brother! Let us know how the second day goes.

    • @pappabear7617
      @pappabear7617 Рік тому +1

      @@6GearCutloe Hey so passed the class no problem, did the course on the KTM 200 that the school provided so it was one of the better bikes of the fleet. Never road before other than ATVs etc so I know what going "fast" on a machine like that feels like so I think that helped a lot. Actually got to be the Bike Lead for most of the drills and the skills exam. I was happy with instructors and the knowledge they had to give and the attitude the rest of the class had towards learning. After you complete this class and get your license, you still have such a long ways to go but you can feel confident that if you apply the skills you learned in this class, you'll have that foundation to grow as a rider. My journey with that starts today and I hope the people that find this video and this message understand that you can accomplish any challenge with the right mindset and self assessment. Finally happy to say I'm apart of the club and can do that biker wave lmao

    It is great to see MSF endorsement; I took mine in 2010 and I had been riding motocross from age 12..I'm 49 years old now. I still learnt lots of things!! I did se two people not make it off the course, one was a teenager that their folks brought and he wasn't mature enough, he kept dropping the bike and not really listening to instruction. The other was a lady, petite and she wanted to start riding because she had lost her husband who had left her a full dresser Harley, she didn't want to sell it. There was no way she was riding that dresser, she was not confident enough and too petite, she was dropping the training bikes left and right. I honestly felt sorry for her; the instructors gave her their honest opinion not to ride.

(Test anxiety) I am a female, 60 years young and getting back on a bike was on my bucket list. Road in my early 20’s. Stopped while raising a family. Bought my Dyna Lowrider in June. Have been out riding. Just need to work on the slow speed and tight turns. I got this! Right? 😬

      Thank you for checking the video. You'll be fine. The written test is pretty easy if you're paying attention and ask questions for anything that you may not understand. The slow speed turns are difficult for everyone, even experienced riders. The key is to look where you want to go and believe in your throttle Control in the friction zone. All of this will make sense during the course. Check back in and let us know how it goes. Good luck!

    Great video. I was the weakest rider in my class, but I was there early every day and asked questions and let the coaches know what I thought were my weak points were and tried to listen to what they said. Three riders that I know were better than me failed the exam. All three put their foot down multiple times during the final exam phase. I went wide on U turn and missed a cone in the curves section and probably got points in every stage of the exam and passed. The coaches didn't let on how we scored until we went inside. I think that was the worst part of the whole course. Everyone drop their bike at least once if not more during the 3 day course no big deal, just don't drop it during the exam. the student that dropped their bike the most during training had the best score at the end of the exam. Remember make sure you do the e-course before you get there or you won't get to ride.

    Yo, how are you liking those dainese pants? Got mines a few weeks ago. Feels warm and comfy with protected knee armor, but it feels a little baggy. Fell down on it doing slow speed maneuvers and the armor it did an excellent job, barely felt the bike on my leg and the pants was still good.

      I started riding at 34. Zero riding experience. Didn't even know how to drive a manual car. MSF Basic Rider Course will get you started. You'll learn how to get the bike moving and how to turn the bike at slow speeds (harder than it looks). Those skills will set the foundation you need to start learning. After the course, you'll need to practice on a regular basis until you're comfortable enough to hit the public road. Find an empty street or parking lot and practice practice practice! Good luck family!
