Why is it mandatory to cover your hair but you can still wear makeup and do your nails? Genuine question! I don't know anything abt this religion so I'm curious.
Other people besides family are not allowed to see the real hair of a married woman, but nowhere does it say that we can't wear makeup etc. It depends also on the community you belong to, in very strict ones they don't wear makeup or only very natural makeup and in other communities you can wear it. The Rebbetzin in my community came from Morocco so she wears quite heavy eye makeup even though she is Chabad....it just depends! But the Torah mentions women wearing cosmetics and makeup so it's fine
