The fact that you sewed the zipper backwards twice made me start believing in myself because that's exactly what I would do and then have a temper tantrum over it 😭😭 You are such a wonderful creator and seeing your mistakes is SO freaking refreshing and real and inspiring
I have done that several times. Even after years of sewing. 😂
I couldn't stop laughing after she sewed the zipper backwards twice 🤣 I love that she left that in
Dude I always do stupid stuff like that’s it’s so goofy
It is really, really common to do one thing wrong several times. Happened to me with sleeves, ugh, gotta hate sleeves!
I was just thinking I really need to see her take out the seam ripper to find this project believable. I am a believer now. ❤️❤️❤️
Padding out Mannie to your exact proportions was a great idea. Add in your mad skillz, and the world is now officially your oyster 🌈 Can’t wait for the 🌼🌸🌺🌻
Honestly so happy to see someone with way more sewing experience than me still making mistakes. It's just really encouraging to be reminded that everyone messes up sometimes
If I sewed the zipper wrong twice, I would've quit right there and given myself a week to calm down lol.
The base dress has such a great shape! I can't wait to see how it will look with all the flowers on it!
Right!!
You are so talented I'm an 11 year old Crocheter with a market business and i absolutely love your channel.😍😍😍
Can't wait to see you add the flowers!
Our aesthetics are wildly different, but you make sewing feel more accessible and fun, and I appreciate it. One of these days I need to get my sewing machine cleaned up and tuned so I can get started!
Eekk! I can’t wait to see what it turns out like!!
You taught me how to crochet! Love your vids
😮
@@official_em1ly Thank you xx
Can’t wait to see the final dress! And can we just…for a second…you can use that dress pattern in a nice lightweight cotton fabric for summer. You can use that dress pattern for formal. Take pride in your work! ❤
Jenna making a video on sewing tips: "Don't cut corners, make a mock up and maintain your machine!"
Also Jenna: *cuts corners, ditches the mock up, does bot maintain her machine*
Seriously! When you confessed to sewing the zipper wrong twice I yelled out ‘omg yes I’ve done that too!’ You are most definitely not alone there. Thanks for sharing your adventures-whether with yarn, fabric, bike, or whatever-I enjoy them so much 😊
I love that we all have these shared experiences with sewing/sewing machines. The craft can be enraging yet we keep on going and it truly is a test of patience and perseverance. I love sewing and always think my projects will be a piece of cake...then everything goes wrong.
I’m glued to the edge of my seat.
So eager for the results! You’re a master at this craft!
At first I thought this was another "this is the sewing mistake I made" comment, and then I remembered that you aren't actually glued to your seat. 😂
@@phedran 😬
@@phedran same, me too! :)
You did great. Fixing the fit on your dress form was fantastic. Sewing takes hours and hours, even for those like me with a degree in fashion design.
I love that you included all the pitfalls, struggles and triumphs of the whole process. Beautiful! I also love the hyperbole. 70 days! Ha!
You made my day! Can’t wait for the final, completed, ultra amazing, hugely collaborative, floral dress!
I loved that you shared the journey to the end because it is so inspiring to beginners and seasoned sewers alike. You go, girl.
You are sooooo relatable! All of the things (taking forever to get the pieces cut out, using random things instead of the proper tools, not maintaining your sewing machine and being annoyed with it when it has problems when all the fluff inside makes it make mistakes …) happen to me as well and I love seeing that I am not the only one 💃🏻
Thank your for making ever entertaining content 🫶🏻
You should add to the title that those are the flowers made by your followers! That’s the most important thing in this whole project! That’s what makes it so special. It’s not just another dress ❤️👍
Nope. She should do what she wants. Gifts don’t come with expectations. That makes them payement.
@@noeraldinkabam
1) Nobody said she had to do it as payment, just that mentioning the sources of the crocheted flowers would really communicate how special the dress is. Also, more fun and interesting (like when crocheters make afghans out of the granny squares sent in by their viewers). It shows how close - knit (or closely knotted, in this case? Lol) our online community is.
2) There was no need to be so combative. Don't assign malice when there was none.
3) It's spelled payment*.
Obviously you don't know Jenna's content and habits. She even says it in this video. "I am lazy and like to take shortcuts" something like that. We don't need to be updated we are all on the same page. You go Jenna, it's a beautiful dress and can't wait to see how it turns out! I love you always and forever 💗😂
She mentioned it and was pointing it out ALL ALONG since the very beginning of this project...
If one needs more recognition for their crocheted flowers: maybe you shouldn't join 🤷🏼♀️🤔
Oki, she does what she feels best!! Cut it out 🥱. You are The best ❤❤😘😘🥰✌️✌️
I've been sewing 40 years and no matter that things like sewing the zipper backwards, (twice!) still happens. The joy of sewing!
The level of patience you have for this is insane!
so excited to see with the flowers. You definitely need to make the everything dress in more colours because WOW she cute
Yes! And mini, midi and maxi versions.
Love the new apartment 🎉poor baby Benson . Good thing he has a good mommy 💖
Ok I love your channel. So hate to say anything but it is driving me crazy I must. The one thing I learned from my mom ,a seamstress, is the first rule of sewing aways WASH/Dry the fabric! Especially cotton. Fabric is stabilized for the roll but with cotton it will shrink. Once washed and dried then you can iron and cut out your fabric. You would have enough to make a coat and get way more wears.
Loooove how this dress is turning out so far! 😍 I saw a hemming hack recently that said to get the hem even, cut your fabric, then hang the fabric on a coat hanger or manequin for a few days. This lets the garment stretch to the shape that gravity will make it, so THEN you can make the final cut and it will stay how you cut it!
So excited to see the finished product! This is shaping up to be a work of art, and it's just so special that the community got to be a part of this!
You’re level of excitement when you finished the dress is exactly how I feel when things work out! You did an amazing job!
🤣🤣the struggle is real! I can't tell you how many times I've repeatedly sewn something in worng. Glad it's not just me. Get after it! looking good👌
Believe me you’re not lazy! Not one bit. 🙌🏻 your creativity, determined , motivated, a great teacher…. I can keep going but you get it, you’re not lazy! Poor Benson ❤️
Hi Jenna, please do a collab sewing video with Micarah Tewers! That would be so fun!
Sending some Benson love to Sir Benson as he heals
Jenna, I just loved seeing you strutting your stuff up and down your hallway. You make me laugh. And so you say why ? Well I have had 3 strokes and some days there is nothing to laugh about so that does make you really special to me. (Not as in eating the paste special). Cant wait to see the dress done so that I can see you strutting your stuff on the runway, I mean your hallway. Lots of Love to you !!!! ✌🏻♥️
I knew it would fit cause in the beginning you had a tshirt on underneath. You can make yourself more dresses like this its stunning
I love it! Great job!!
I want you to know that I am retired, and you have inspired me to learn to sew and crochet!
I now have a sewing/craft room with 6 sewing machines. (including vintage. Sew cool), and a serger. And a cabinet stacked with yarn.
I am having so much fun being inspired by you, so thank you! 😊
busiest week of my life, i literally screamed with joy when i realized yesterday was jenna wednesday. cant wait for part three :D
I'm so impressed! Perseverance, Perseverance ! 👋👋👋You remind me of all of us that watch you , never give up, great job Jenna.
Top tip: kids’ felt-tip markers are the best and cheapest fabric markers! Check that they say “washable” on the packaging and test on a scrap of you specific fabric, but I have hardly ever had a problem, even after ironing over the marks. But to be honest, 90% of the time I use pins over drawing on the fabric at all, it’s so much quicker.
Oh the serger problems were so triggering. That is why I got rid of my serger! There are always problems with tension, with fuzzies, with lumpy seams. I just use my very good sewing machine for everything now. Works perfect!
Most people use a ruler from the ground to where the edge of the dress is to get an even length all around. That way, where ever you measure it from the ground, it will all hit the same point on the ruler.
You are so real, as you show the good and not so good parts of your sewing travels. Love your style, and creativity... the fact that you rebuilt your manny before you got going with your dress. So impressive. Can't wait for vid #2 on the flower dress.
That DRESS, tho! It seriously looks amazing in the skin tone base fabric. Can’t imagine how great it will look with the flowers on it!
You’ve done yourself proud and I think that you don’t quite believe that your sewing skills are as good as they actually are. 10 out of 10 🥰. This really is the perfect dress for anyone, at any age, size etc to wear. You could keep this pattern for future dresses and just adjust it slightly to make it in to a completely different dress. I can imagine it made in a rich velvet with wispy voile/chiffon sleeves. It’s simply beautiful. I can’t wait to see it completed with all of the gorgeous flowers added. Then you need to find a red carpet to walk down and show this off. ❤xx
Ahhh, those seamstress problems! I used to make corsets for fun and my worst was I'd be sewing along a difficult part, get to the end, think I was done, only to realize that my bobbin had run out at the beginning. I've definitely raged and then put down a project for a while after something like that lol. I commend you for not giving despite your seamstress problems!
Almost always have to sew zippers in twice because I sew them in backwards....nice to see it happens to others. Thank you for being so vulnerable.
Jenna!!! I am crocheting rn because of u! You have inspired me so much The thing I love most about your channel is how real you are and your personality. ilysm!
That's so great! What crochet project are you working on now? I'm crocheting a scarf with Lion Brand Scarfie right now.
The silhouette of the dress is so timeless! Would love to be able to pattern something so fitted and perfect ♥
I really love that you show the realities of making your own garment because shit like that just happens even if you checked twice, even if something g you thought would take 15 min takes hours and all the little achievements too as someone who did go to school for ✨️fashun✨️ I really enjoy watching people be confident in just making the thing with reckless abandonment. JUST DO THE THING!! Love your vids think your cool hugs to the doggos 🐶
Congratulations for growing as a seamstress and designer!! Am looking forward to the Big Reveal
okay so right off the bat, the way you have stylized your tops is EPIC!! a criss-cross tie at the side T paired with a backwards racer back one???!!!!! LOVE IT
You persisted and met those challenges-Well done! As a knitter I am always unraveling my work. When we find our mistakes and decide nope I'm not going to ignore it and then try again. That is powerful.
You're the best Jenna, your videos are a highlight of my day! Can't wait to see the finished dress! Have you considered crocheting some details in the end, to cover up some potential bits where the dress may appear? Like the bits between flowers on the shoulder straps. And glad to see I am not the only one who finds dried mangoes mind blowing.
3rd time's a charm!!! I just love your hole attitude even when you mess up you still keep it happy!!!!! You GO GIRL!!!!! You always make me laugh!!! Thank you for being you!!!
My hems look like that too. I lay it on the ground, fold it in quarters lengthwise an measure from the waistline. Then cut through all four layers at once following the markings from the waist. It may work on you since you are so slim. As for that dress fitting everyone...it makes me feel hopeful at 64.
Fits you like a glove, you're a total wonder :D I crossed my fingers on the third attempted zipper.
What a fun adventure! You should have a photo shoot in this dress when it's done! Look out New York fashion week!
Use pattern paper or a soft cotton to lay over your fabric while you're interfacing. Protects your fabric, iron and ironing board.
Jenna, There is this thing called a hem marker; It is basically a weighted block of wood with a yardstick attached that stands up (you can DIY one with some E6000 all purpose, hot, or wood glue).. As you twirl your model around*, you mark your fabric at the same mark on the stick.
NOTE: Also, you should dress your model in the garment and let it hang for 24 hours, maybe 48, before hemming... that way If there are any bias cuts, they will adjust to the hang and be hemmed properly into a straight hem. Another thing is, if your feed dog is it acting up and feeding tOo much too fast or not enough fabric through (equal to what the pressure foot's tension is) on your layers, that will show also and you may need to re-seam a piece or two. That can be why if it wasn't your cutting you come out with janky ends to all of your pieces not matching at the hemline. Of course two it could be the fact that you were pushing it through too fast and the layers were mismatched as to how fast and how much each was going through. So if it's not the machine, it's you.
* i suggest putting the hem stick in one place, and twirling the mannequin in place due to the fact that tile floors with cement underlayment can be unlevel. If you move the stick to a different place you can get a different measurement, you see, and a wonky up-n-down hem. Sewing is rather patience game, than a race to finish - the optimal word here being "Finish".
tbh the more you eyeball and wing it draping the easier it gets!! i learned to self draft patterns pretty quickly this way
also most local antique stores get giant rolls of linen all the time & its super easy to get a huge one for cheap!!!!
i like how you ensure us that Benson is fine or else we will feel sooo bad for him
You need to make your "Perfect dress " in black. How much better could it get?
You always make my day when you post a video. Keep up your creativity 👏.
I love the dress ❤
I have one piece of advice 13:45
I think that you cut the fabric correctly and all the pices were the same length the problem is that the side seams are not straight they are curved or sloped and get stretched out when sewing the seams.
I found that it is helpful to stay stitch the the pieces immediately after cutting and before sewing the side seams together I sometimes used to have this problem when sewing the sleeves side seams but stay stitching fixed it.
I hope this is helpful 😊
You made my day. I was smiling and chuckling through the whole video. Yes, I have gone to a store and bought an insane amount of a product because it was available at the time. I also have sewn a zipper in wrong more than once. The fact that you didn't lose your cool was amazing. Can't wait to see the finished dress!
Well done! I love that you show the highs and lows of all your projects. Keepin’ it real.
This is so exciting! The fact that your foundation garment turned out so perfectly means the rest will follow beautifully. Can't wait! Bravo on persisting until… 👍🏻
I was so happy for you during the video that I was yay clapping throughout! And as I'm sure many people have stated, I'm so glad you left in the zipper fiasco - I cannot tell you how many times I make the same stupid mistake more than twice and it can be so enraging just because of the time alone. Congrats on your work of art!
Hey Jenna!! Just wanted to let you know that your my idol and I absolutely love you!!❤ every time you post smth I’m super excited to watch it! Please never stop making videos!🤩🫶 no matter what happens just remember to keep your head up and that you’re not alone🫶❤️❤️
To do a hem, you measure up from the floor with a yard stick (meter stick?). Perfect hem every time. Learned that a zillion years ago from my professional seamstress grandmother! Thanks, Gram!
Jenna I love your videos! They are so therapeutic to watch!
You're immensely talented and you make me want to learn!
absolutely love your videos. truly an inspiration for me. Often times i get a spark of creativity and give up on the idea from just uncertainty of what to do/what to do next. Youve shown me theres beauty in just going for it and doing it, and figuring it out as you go.
Your dress fits perfectly. 😊😊😊😊Was a bit wide-eyed when you cut into your cotton fabric without pre-washing it. Holding thumbs that it will not shrink when you launder it later. Waiting impatiently for next installment. 😊😊
hopefully it'll never be laundered, especially after all those crochet flowers go on as shrinkage will be a much lesser issue than ending up with a big heavy ball of felted yarn fibre! 😅
i made my sewing hams from left over cotton fabric and wood chips from the pet store that you use for hamster cages. just another DIT idea for ya to do 😊
So excited for part two!!! The final outcome's gonna look so good! 🧡
you are creating so much peace and love in this world with your vids jenna. we love you so v much! im always excited when your vids pop up on my feed. love from atlanta.
To cut the hem evenly, measure from the floor to the skirt and spin Mannie around keeping the same height from the floor.
Loooks PERFECTT so proud!! I think you should put a tool underskirt it’d give it better structure and shape for when the flowers go on
Thank you for the tip about the ham! I rolled up an old hand towel and pull one of my orphaned socks over it. It works!
Thanks!
Clearly it is working!!! I loved the under dress too 😊
I was laughing so hard, at the 2nd time the zipper went on backwards. I would have put it down until the next day, LOL. You keep on going and it's perfect and beautiful. GREAT JOB!!!!!
I can’t remember what clip of Benson it was on your last video, but my two year old was watching with me and said “That’s her kangaroo!” 😆
Enjoying this series! Thanks for the entertainment.
My mom was a seamstress and we shared so many funny sewing and crocheting memories 😂.
She despised zippers 😂😂😂 Proud of you and your dress 🥳
Ah! The struggle is real! Thank you for showing us how to prevail and the GREAT results!!❤
Hi jenna, just dropping in to say I'm waiting for the new video since Wednesday ☺️
What a dreamy lifestyle 🎉 Love you so much, you delight my days❤❤❤
I was waiting for this update, and I can't wait to see more...it's such a lovely project
Will done on getting your measurement bang on, that's not an easy feat by any means, it looks amazing, you should be extremely proud of yourself. Can't wait for the next part though, I want the dress to be finished already, I want to see it in all its awesomeness!
OMG I can't wait to see the end result!!!! I'm already in love with the "base" dress 💖💖💖
Jenna, I love your vids and I think you are amazing. Your dress is beautiful. Can hardly wait for next week to see how far you got with the flowers. Hugs to Benson & Jack - so cute.
You absolutely amaze me. I had an Aunt that would have us pick something from sears catalog. Then she'd cut a pattern out of the newspaper .
Jenna you’re amazing!!! ✨💕🌈🔥 You’re so inspiring and thanks to you I found the confidence to sew my own special day wedding dress even though I didn’t go to fashion school 🥰 thank you for showing the WHOLE process you go through 🧡 makes me feel like I can do anything with enough practice 🌸
sewing the zipper on backwards twice was so funny this is why we love u
love this, and your content!! Cannot wait to see the end! ALSO you can totally make your own ham for pressing! A really good way to use up scraps, as can stuff it with fabric. x
I can't wait to see the final result
it's so beautiful
She is Talented truly
You made me lol while I was drinking my coffee when you said “ it will be up to my nipples”. Didn’t expect that. So now coffee is all over my dog, Gracie, who is not amused at me! I love watching your videos. Can’t wait to see the finished dress.
I think I would have sewn the flowers on before I added the lining that way no stitches from the flowers would show, but that is just me, I'm no professional myself and that is a banging dress!
I died💀 the zipper is EXACTLY something i would do, as well as the seams not matching up at the bottom! Lmao im so glad yours worked out for you
DAMN GIRL, SEWING FROM A PATTERN (Vogue) IS THE EASY WAY TO GO WHEN MAKING A DRESS. MY MOM & SISTER HAVE BEEN SEWING FOR YEARS & ONLY SEW USING PATTERNS. TRY IT. YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID!
Truly the most relatable sewing video I’ve ever seen 😂 looks great so far!!
Oooo yummie...i am crazy about dried mangos.
THE INTERFACING HACK IS A GODSEND!!!!
