  • Before dropping some coin on the Sig P229 or the Sig P226, i wanted to test one out to see if I liked it. However, I did not know anyone who had one, nor did any ranges near me have one to test. Once I found the Sig SP2022 for a great price, I had to pick one up and see how I liked it. I hope this info was helpful for you!

1:23 those are night sights bud and they works great, this is a very underrated pistol, I’d put it up against a Glock 19 all day

The SP2022 is based on the 1998 designed SP2340. That being said it is an old design. The SP2022 has been the service weapon of many police and military around the world for over 20 years, and it is not discontinued. It is still listed in the Sig Sauer website. As long it keeps being the service pistol for police and military Sig will keep producing them.
Sig is known for the high bore, P226,227,228,229 they all have high bore and they still are great guns.

The US Army tank school at Fort Knox acquired 5000 of these about 20 years ago. I do not know what they did with them. Maybe they were issued out and disposed of to foreign ally soldiers training there or used by American personnel. The gun is also popular with French law enforcement.

@@richardkluesek4301 France ordered 275k of them on 2002 and had a service contract of 20 years. That's how the became Sig SP2022. The contract terminated two years ago and I believe France now went with Glock but I haven't confirmed that.

@@katanapr3 Beretta 92s also were in French service. Whatever the official pistol now is, Glock or otherwise, certainly there are plenty of 2022s in inventory and at least its possible that reserve auxiliaries will be using them for some time to come and the former colonies are known to get military material from the Empire.

Great point about the excess space in the beavertail. Makes one wonder how that passed as acceptable with the Sig engineers, especially since it is an easy way to get the best ergos and lowering the bore axis out of their pistol. Oh well...

The beaver tail is similar on the metal framed SiSs.
The SP2022 comes with 2 full interchangeable grips. A third size can be purchased very cheaply. You must have bought a IPsec pistol which did not include the usual accessories..

Besides having an M11A1, I also eventually added a SP2022 9mm to the collection and am confident that it is a bona fide Sig, though now secondary, superseded first by the 250 and currently the 320 (military M17 and 18) as the polymer premier sidearm. The only change I made to my pistol is replacing the plastic recoil spring guide rod with a metal one, as the OEM plastic rods are known to scour from the recoil spring reciprocating. and warp, acquiring a spongy flex after some range time. I also keep a spare .40 recoil spring if +P or +P+ ammo is all that is available. There are 3 sizes of grip modules, I prefer the small, (came OEM on my gun) there are identifying marks, and wear a large glove for hand comparison. Well done on getting a good price ! The best advantages of this pistol is that the slide rails in the polymer frame are steel for greater durability long term wear compared to aluminum frames in the higher end 226/229s and the corrosion resistant coating throughout is mil spec to withstand salt water service conditions and abusive environment.

I picked one up for 450. I just wanted a sig cause growing up watching tv and the 226/229 looked so cool but over a grand is just out of my price range. I love the night sights feels good in the hand but I have to agree it’s a pretty high Bore compared to my cz p07 it’s like a sky scraper lol. It’s a nice pistol and I feel like it gets you pretty close to a 229 or alike. For a range toy or frankly just an other 9mm for the collection I’m happy with it. I will say compared to the p07 and that’s a very direct competition to the 2022 the controls on the sig are better easier to reach I have pretty average hands and I don’t have issues with the p07 the sigs are just better. The p07 is still one of my favorites but I don’t have buyers remorse picking up the 2022 by any means it’s a cool pistol and worth it’s price tag.

It doesn't come with different backstraps, but it SHOULD have come with an extra grip module of a different size than what was installed. Mine came with a MEDIUM grip module installed, and a LARGE spare. It also came with SigLites, spare mag, factory holster, case, and papers ($425 OTD). I've since installed a SMALL grip module, a Short Reach trigger, and acquired (4) extra mags.
I really wish SIG had designed it around the P228/229 magazine.

      C’mon? Really? It’s a double/single action pistol… not a striker fired pistol….. The 300 series ( I.e. p320) possibly had that problem.. a modular striker design…. Don’t like the 320 or 365 ( 300 series sigs) … they are cheap and plasticky…No offense to anyone who likes the 320…. I just don’t….. But i absolutely love the sp2022…. It’s an old school, polymer p229
minus some of the whistles and bells of a $1k sig…. But with the same buttery trigger ( the sp2022 triggers are every bit as good as their metal/ aluminum cousin… excluding the SRT trigger.) but the polymer is more durable than the aluminum framed 229 ( imo)… the pistol functions the same…. It’s the least returned pistol for repairs and recalls out of the Sig lineup… that’s what the Sig rep said when I bought one… makes sense …. The sp2022 is aesthetically pleasing… it’s a great looking 👀 gun….The grip is thinner than the 229/226 because it is Polymer… so it feels great in the hand ( 200 series sig grips are awesome, but I like the 2022 better)….. The gun is On Roster in Ca so allows Ca owners an opportunity to buy a great gun new and not get hassled….. the gun is not perfect but it’s perfect in the way you would want it to be…. Somewhat or really affordable depending on when you bought it? Value and function is where it’s at with the 2022…. Bore Axis and Beaver tails are splitting hairs with everything else that you get ( mags are expensive, only complain able downside ) This is the Perfect truck, camping, home defense gun… It’s something of a cult following with this gun … people who own them love them and keep them… If you had a more expensive sig 229,etc and had one of these you could keep round count low on the expensive sig and practice with this.. functions the same….. the sp2022 is a work horse 💎 of a gun…. You would be privileged and lucky to have one and Really wouldn’t need anything else….. That’s alot of typing 💬.
