I went through this same process a few months back…… Wish I had seen this video sooner!

I had the same issues. Top mount was a little too high and the offset was hard to find. So what I did was bring the arisaka offset mount in front of the LPVO mount and now the dot is right there every time and I don’’t have to raise my head off the stock. Obviously a preference/training thing but I found it to work pretty well on my SPR

I found that if you are fishing for the optic when you cant, it means you don't have the mount at the right height. Your height over bore is off then. Which I found so many mounts myself, weren't nailing it. I found using my 515GM with its additional mount made the cant perfect. But when I used a 509t mount, It was always so low.
To me, the dilemma is more are you using night vision or not. No? canting is a great option. Yes? Then use a top mount for ease of use. Then it comes to personal preference. To me a prism + canted red dot is super slick. I enjoy it. But not all like it.
Great video going over some issues. Spending 100 bucks on a mount and it not working is annoying. I found the Weaver canted mount on Amazon gives your dots enough pop up to keep height over bore.

What did you zero the red dot at and what did you zero the LPVO at?

I went red dot 50 yards. 25 years and closer felt too close with the high offset. LPVO is at 50 as well actually as it will hit same spot at 200. Then accommodate drop a bit for everything further. Obviously, 50 yards and in will be red dot targets. 50 yards and out will be LPVO

My brother in retardation I’m about to fix you. I have run the arisaka with a holosun 503r, arisaka was listed as being taller than T. rex unless they updated from 2021. But the rmr size optics are fine as top mounts but aren’t as good as T2 types for offsets. The holosun 503r uses a rotary dial and has a circle crosshair so you know when you’re level for zeroing and sits a hair higher than a t2. I’ve used it in force on force and it’s fast, it’s great when you’re pulling security down a hall. My zero is also my zero within 200 yds because it’s the same height as my scope. Also it can be used for “passive” aiming. Is a top dot easier for passive? Yes but I don’t like the height over bore and it makes port and barrier shooting more difficult because your bore can easily be covered but your eyeline can see the target. For gas masks I’m leaving. Screw being in a Chen environment
