This is probably my most favorite video of Rabbi Tovia. For, I was a christian whenever I stumbled upon these teachings. And for years I had struggled with a number of teachings in the New Testament. My heart was troubled. For years I prayed for God to show me the truth, I only wanted to find the truth, something just wasn't right. I saw the contradictions, so I prayed, and I prayed, and Hashem had mercy on me, and led me into the truth. I began listening to the Rabbi. I just couldn't get enough. The pieces of the puzzle began to fall in place. I was like a sponge, soaking up the truths that I had so deeply yearned for. But, it was this very video that convinced me. It was the final piece of the puzzle that made it all complete. I never imagined that my search for truth would lead me to Judaism. But, don't get me wrong, it was not an easy transition, because, the roots of christianity had been with me from birth. It was scary, to say the least. I struggled with rejecting Jesus, because if I was wrong, I'd go to the lake of fire, I thought. It was frightening, very frightening. But, the more I learn, the freer I am becoming. And it IS "joy unspeakable and full of glory". I am so thankful for the work that Rabbi and William are doing, I can never thank them enough.

HOWEVER. read Isaiah 7.4 to 7.9. You will clearly see that Hashem will deliver Judah from the 2 kings that are coming after King Ahaz ,and it will be within the 35 year period! As it is written in Isaiah 7.8. Furthermore starting in Isaiah 7.10 God is revealing his future plan for the house of David because if the house of David gets destroyed then how can the Messiah come? @@always1st59 a lot to unpack in your comment, but that makes for a good comment. I will get through it with consideration; however, one thing stands out to me that isn't as i have understood it. You ask who the child is that will "turn from evil and choose good". I have read this passage many times and always understood it, as written in the King James, as "before he may KNOW to refuse the evil, and choose the good". This has never stood out to me as indicating anything about the actual choices that the child would make, whether or not he would be "righteous" in line with others in Tenak that are referred to as "righteous", or that he would be sinless in line with the claim made of Jesus. Can you explain what you mean in light of the text saying " 'know' to choose" and if this changes how your argument should be understood?

@@lindamckeown3198 Let's look at this legally. When I came out of Christianity, only one God, God the Father made sense. However, I still believed in Yahshua (Yeshua or Jesus) for my salvation though thinking I must believe in him (if his lineage was found accurate outside of the NT), and that if he ever existed, for the forgiveness of sins. But as you may have learnt, a human sacrifice be it of priestly lineage or not, is an abomination to HaShem. Further you may note that the Messiah must be of the lineage of David whereas you see in the NT that the "Messiah" was born of a virgin of the seed of God. This is not factual if you believe in One God. Technically, it should be outright grounds for rejection of the NT and there is virtually no need of further clemency, intervention or deliberation in the matter because it doesn't qualify the "Jesus of the NT" as the Jewish Messiah then in the first place. What I'm saying is, there is no need to look further for proof outside of the Tanakh through a historical figure called Yahshua/Yeshua/Jesus because IF God intended for us to know this historical figure for salvation, He would have ensured the fundamental premise of his existence is accurately penned as lives are at stake. The NT fails as the primary supporting document for salvation for the Jew in the legal context immediately. The NT Jesus then could be considered as having a separate mission not associated with the Jewish Scriptures. So belief in such a Jesus would mean belief in the TRINITY and not in the One God who gave the Jewish Scriptures. Secondly, I can either believe in one God or the Trinity but not mixed. I cannot be called a Jew for Jesus (the Trinity) and still be a Jew as one of the fundamental tenets of a Jew practicing Judaism is the belief that God is One and that God Himself forgives sins. So I've got to be a Jew who does not believe in Jesus/Yahshua/Yeshua as the Messiah not for the forgiveness of sins (thus a belief in One God) or a Christian who believes Jesus is the Messiah (belief in the Trinity as nothing less accepted by the NT) but certainly I cannot be a Jew for Jesus or a Christian for HaShem. It's an oxymoron. This is a little technical and legal for those who kinda know what I'm saying as I was battling where the belief in Yeshua fits in. But as I see, it cannot fit anywhere. It doesn't need to fit anywhere. It will be totally contradictory to have any belief in Jesus/Yeshua/Yahshua for anything and still believe in the One God because Jesus/Yeshua/Yahshua as portrayed in the NT fails to fulfill the criteria for Messiahship as reported by the NT itself. Belief in a sacrifice albeit human is not a justification for salvation according the the Hebrew Bible. So, the existence or denial of the historical figure is not in question at all in fact belief in this historical figure whether of royal descent or not is immaterial so it seems, it is the salvation through belief in a disassociated historical figure reported by the NT taken out of context that is in question. It's like saying if I believed in Yeshua/Jesus, I would be believing in an entirely Christian movement that has nothing to do with the God of the Hebrew Bible!

According to my view of the immortality, infiniteness and unending nature of God, He never dwelled on earth inside a single individual being completely contained in that individual alone to the exclusion of everyone else. But He is there in every individual as He is all permeating. This is what I call the spirit of God in man. Hence, I do not believe God was in the historical figure of Jesus/Yeshua as God the all encompassing single entity but He existed as God the divine spark as one of many entities which is in each individual albeit encompassing the whole. I see a distinction between man and God and I will never equate God and man as equal. So the historical figure is of no consequence to me apart from teaching me about God the Father. When I hear the historical figure speak, I hear him speaking about His Father. Everything else that Paul, John and so on speak are of no value either because again, there is no supporting documentary evidence apart from some miracles to "believe" in a "resurrection" for the "forgiveness of sins". It's like a whole different thing. Like a religion I can convert to. Like, what's the deal why should I believe someone was resurrected. I know anyone who believes in God the Father has a chance to be resurrected so what is special about this historical figure. That because he resurrected, he is God? So my point is, when we break this down to the reasons, it all falls apart.

We are living in an era where religion will have no place. I'm overwhelmed by the fact that we agrue with others. I was a devout catholic. I left that religion after gaining wisdom. We grew up believing what we were taught. Continuous curiousity for truth and wisdom led me to Rabbi Singer. I enjoyed his lectures and appreciate his respect for others who have a different opinion. I really enjoy listening to this Rabbi even though I am a Christian who has studied both Hebrew and Greek, wrote a doctoral dissertation on translation at a major university, primarily focused on Bible translation, attended messianic congregations and currently attend a conservative shul. I see many good things in Christianity but I became extremely bothered at the way Jews are evangelized, methods which do not even agree with New Testament scripture. I have really learned a lot from listening to him since it is actually a very complex issue.
How can you continue to believe in Jesus as your God or savior when you listen to him. Honestly, why bother? He is better versed in the gospel than any pastor or church leader and he is well versed in the Hebrew scriptures (Torah and all its books).

@@jdub7101 So Tovia Singer is making the case saying that this verse from Isaiah 7.14 has nothing to do with Messiah/Special Child. And that Isaiah was sent to King Ahaz to tell him that he will be delivered now and not 700 years from now by this child to be born as described in Isaiah 7.14. Its a compelling argument. HOWEVER. read Isaiah 7.4 to 7.9. You will clearly see that Hashem will deliver Judah from the 2 kings that are coming after King Ahaz ,and it will be within the 35 year period! As it is written in Isaiah 7.8. Furthermore starting in Isaiah 7.10 God is revealing his future plan for the house of David because if the house of David gets destroyed then how can the Messiah come? For it is written that he comes through Judah and the house of David. Because as mentioned by Tovia Singer, Ahaz was a wicked King. Yet God delivers king Ahaz and Judah, the house of David for King David's sake as God keeps his promises all the way back to Abraham,Isaac,and Jacob. BERESHIT/GENESIS 49.10 "The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his" ( THIS IS OBVIOUSLY SPEAKING OF MESSIAH). Thank you so much. Living in Brisbane Australia I haven't met anyone jewish. Having confusion with Christianity from a young age I really didn't look elsewhere else other than a number of other Christian churches. I'm doing my own study and finding God more everyday. I went to Christian seminary and didn't learn Hebrew. How sad that I had to learn these truths at 40 years old. We were taught to use the Strongs concordance which is very biased towards Christianity.
The literal [exact] translation of the Hebrew of Jeremiah 17 verse 5: *"Such did YHVH say: Cursed is the person who puts their faith in a man [literally: באדם, in a man, it doesn't say בבני אדם which would be "in man-kind/humans", it says באדם "ba'Adam", "in a man"] whom puts flesh as their helper and from YHVH (the Creator) does their heart veer from".*
Who is Yehweh and what is the significance of the Dead Sea scrolls and the texts that predate the bible? Who decided to put the Old Testament and New Testament in the Christian bible? Who was Jesus talking about when he said that “you are of your father the devil, you brood of vipers”? Why such detail in Jesus texts? Rabbi Singer has a point that to best understand the Hebrew Bible, it is most helpful to learn ancient Hebrew. That is quite challenge naturally - and the Rabbi is correct, if you take it up in college - too late. Nevertheless, so many New Testament readers, Christians, rabbis and everyone else studying the New Testament also have the similar issue - as how many know Aramaic and Greek. There is a reason this lecture is given in the language which has become the language of the Western World - English, which is a derivative of German, French and even Dutch - and that's not even all). Hopefully, we do the best we can - and the Almighty's message comes to us in a way we can wrap our minds around. I have to disagree with one aspect of what Rabbi Singer brought up about New York. It surely wasn't for the faint of heart growing up in Brooklyn, but if you went on the handball courts (which the Rabbi mentioned) some of the best players through the years were Jewish, and to this day they mix it up with everyone else New York has to offer. I even played a couple of Rabbis who ventured to the Coney Island courts.
I learned more in one Sermon with with Rabbi Singer, than I learned in 40 years at the Christian church. Rabbi Singer is truly a blessing from the Lord God ♥️🙏💕

the MT that he cites is in itself flawed and one needs to actually read and understand textually and poetically why. The scribes removed and changed the text even in the torah to make things sound nicer. Deuteronomy 32 is a good example - read the different texts and see what makes the most sense. If you understand how stanzas work then you will see why the MT is buggered with. Not only that is sons of Israel is a pretty ridiculous change - since genesis 11 when the nations were split - there was no Israel, no Jacob yet even. ---derp.

This is probably my most favorite video of Rabbi Tovia. For, I was a christian whenever I stumbled upon these teachings. And for years I had struggled with a number of teachings in the New Testament. My heart was troubled. For years I prayed for God to show me the truth, I only wanted to find the truth, something just wasn't right. I saw the contradictions, so I prayed, and I prayed, and Hashem had mercy on me, and led me into the truth. I began listening to the Rabbi. I just couldn't get enough. The pieces of the puzzle began to fall in place. I was like a sponge, soaking up the truths that I had so deeply yearned for. But, it was this very video that convinced me. It was the final piece of the puzzle that made it all complete. I never imagined that my search for truth would lead me to Judaism. But, don't get me wrong, it was not an easy transition, because, the roots of christianity had been with me from birth. It was scary, to say the least. I struggled with rejecting Jesus, because if I was wrong, I'd go to the lake of fire, I thought. It was frightening, very frightening. But, the more I learn, the freer I am becoming. You should read all of Isaiah 7,and take special note of who the kings are that threaten the kingdom of Judah. Who they are and what happened to the Northern kingdom of Israel is closer than you might think.

You ask who the child is that will "turn from evil and choose good". I have read this passage many times and always understood it, as written in the King James, as "before he may KNOW to refuse the evil, and choose the good". This has never stood out to me as indicating anything about the actual choices that the child would make, whether or not he would be "righteous" in line with others in Tenak that are referred to as "righteous", or that he would be sinless in line with the claim made of Jesus. Can you explain what you mean in light of the text saying " 'know' to choose" and if this changes how your argument should be understood?

However, I still believed in Yahshua (Yeshua or Jesus) for my salvation though thinking I must believe in him (if his lineage was found accurate outside of the NT), and that if he ever existed, for the forgiveness of sins. But as you may have learnt, a human sacrifice be it of priestly lineage or not, is an abomination to HaShem. Further you may note that the Messiah must be of the lineage of David whereas you see in the NT that the "Messiah" was born of a virgin of the seed of God. This is not factual if you believe in One God. Technically, it should be outright grounds for rejection of the NT and there is virtually no need of further clemency, intervention or deliberation in the matter because it doesn't qualify the "Jesus of the NT" as the Jewish Messiah then in the first place. What I'm saying is, there is no need to look further for proof outside of the Tanakh through a historical figure called Yahshua/Yeshua/Jesus because IF God intended for us to know this historical figure for salvation, He would have ensured the fundamental premise of his existence is accurately penned as lives are at stake. The NT fails as the primary supporting document for salvation for the Jew in the legal context immediately. The NT Jesus then could be considered as having a separate mission not associated with the Jewish Scriptures. So belief in such a Jesus would mean belief in the TRINITY and not in the One God who gave the Jewish Scriptures. Secondly, I can either believe in one God or the Trinity but not mixed. I cannot be called a Jew for Jesus (the Trinity) and still be a Jew as one of the fundamental tenets of a Jew practicing Judaism is the belief that God is One and that God Himself forgives sins. So I've got to be a Jew who does not believe in Jesus/Yahshua/Yeshua as the Messiah not for the forgiveness of sins (thus a belief in One God) or a Christian who believes Jesus is the Messiah (belief in the Trinity as nothing less accepted by the NT) but certainly I cannot be a Jew for Jesus or a Christian for HaShem. It's an oxymoron. This is a little technical and legal for those who kinda know what I'm saying as I was battling where the belief in Yeshua fits in. But as I see, it cannot fit anywhere. It doesn't need to fit anywhere. It will be totally contradictory to have any belief in Jesus/Yeshua/Yahshua for anything and still believe in the One God because Jesus/Yeshua/Yahshua as portrayed in the NT fails to fulfill the criteria for Messiahship as reported by the NT itself. Belief in a sacrifice albeit human is not a justification for salvation according the the Hebrew Bible. So, the existence or denial of the historical figure is not in question at all in fact belief in this historical figure whether of royal descent or not is immaterial so it seems, it is the salvation through belief in a disassociated historical figure reported by the NT taken out of context that is in question. It's like saying if I believed in Yeshua/Jesus, I would be believing in an entirely Christian movement that has nothing to do with the God of the Hebrew Bible!

According to my view of the immortality, infiniteness and unending nature of God, He never dwelled on earth inside a single individual being completely contained in that individual alone to the exclusion of everyone else. But He is there in every individual as He is all permeating. This is what I call the spirit of God in man. Hence, I do not believe God was in the historical figure of Jesus/Yeshua as God the all encompassing single entity but He existed as God the divine spark as one of many entities which is in each individual albeit encompassing the whole. So my point is, when we break this down to the reasons, it all falls apart.

We are living in an era where religion will have no place. I'm overwhelmed by the fact that we agrue with others. I was a devout catholic. I left that religion after gaining wisdom. We grew up believing what we were taught. Continuous curiousity for truth and wisdom led me to Rabbi Singer. I enjoyed his lectures and appreciate his respect for others who have a different opinion. I really enjoy listening to this Rabbi even though I am a Christian who has studied both Hebrew and Greek, wrote a doctoral dissertation on translation at a major university, primarily focused on Bible translation, attended messianic congregations and currently attend a conservative shul. I see many good things in Christianity but I became extremely bothered at the way Jews are evangelized, methods which do not even agree with New Testament scripture. I have really learned a lot from listening to him since it is actually a very complex issue.
How can you continue to believe in Jesus as your God or savior when you listen to him. Honestly, why bother? He is better versed in the gospel than any pastor or church leader and he is well versed in the Hebrew scriptures (Torah and all its books).

And that Isaiah was sent to King Ahaz to tell him that he will be delivered now and not 700 years from now by this child to be born as described in Isaiah 7.14. Its a compelling argument. HOWEVER. read Isaiah 7.4 to 7.9. You will clearly see that Hashem will deliver Judah from the 2 kings that are coming after King Ahaz ,and it will be within the 35 year period! As it is written in Isaiah 7.8. Furthermore starting in Isaiah 7.10 God is revealing his future plan for the house of David because if the house of David gets destroyed then how can the Messiah come? For it is written that he comes through Judah and the house of David. Because as mentioned by Tovia Singer, Ahaz was a wicked King. Yet God delivers king Ahaz and Judah, the house of David for King David's sake as God keeps his promises all the way back to Abraham,Isaac,and Jacob. BERESHIT/GENESIS 49.10 "The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his" ( THIS IS OBVIOUSLY SPEAKING OF MESSIAH). Now let's for sake of conversation say that 7.14 does not talk about a virgin birth and let's say God is not showing that as a sign, and Alma is not another way to refer to virgin in those days. This is fascinating. I do understand his point. I also believe that many people that were raised in the church, in Christianity are afraid not to believe in Yahusha, because they've been told all their life they'll go to hell if they don't believe in Him. The more I personally learn about the scriptural changes, it makes me wonder. Either you go by The original Scriptures or you don't. I never understood why I was told to Sabbath was on Sunday when scripture said it was on the 7th day. I now honor it on the 7th day. I now honor the Commandments. Most christians think you can just keep doing the same sins and just because you believe in jesus, your sins are wiped away. Somehow I just don't believe it works that way. Thank you so much. Living in Brisbane Australia I haven't met anyone jewish. Having confusion with Christianity from a young age I really didn't look elsewhere else other than a number of other Christian churches. I'm doing my own study and finding God more everyday. For me Christianity was keeping me away from God.

But to my amazement I met the most wonderful man I have ever known and he happens to be Jewish and he had your tapes and book I told him I wanted to listen to it but he said no but again I insisted and to my wonderful surprise I understood first time in my life thank you so much for being used by the father of Abraham Isaac and Jacob I now listen to all your lectures a lot of people think that I’ve done this because of having a Jewish husband but no my eyes were open to the true God creator of all things and I have you to thank .
So sad that children could be emotionally abused by their parents and the church leaders. My father who grew up in Poland and as a young child experienced such anti Semitism from adults and children. They never dared play in the parks and at 16yrs left and went to Cuba. Eventually got his family out years before the Holocaust.

How does this passage refer to a nation and not a person?

Who is the sin sacrifice? Is it a nation, how is that not a human sacrifice?

How can a nation justify many and bear their iniquities?
12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 53:12)
So Israel died a death, was numbered with transgressors and bore the sins of the many.
All this would mean is that instead of one man dying for our sins, a whole nation had to die and become the sin sacrifice to bear the iniquities of the many.
It disproves the argument that God doesn’t demand a human sacrifice, it actually makes it worse by saying God demands a whole nation to be a sin sacrifice. So instead of one man God asked thousands of men to be sacrificed? Really?
Each time Rabbi Tovia Singer speaks about this chapter he argues that the servant refers to Israel but even in Isaiah, when we study it carefully, the servant takes on many meanings referring to different people.
"But take utmost care and watch yourselves scrupulously, so that you do not forget the things that you saw with your own eyes and so that they do not fade from your mind as long as you live. And make them known to your children and to your children’s children: The day you stood before Hashem your God at Horeb, when Hashem said to me, “Gather the people to Me that I may let them hear My words, in order that they may learn to revere Me as long as they live on earth, and may so teach their children.”... "Like a man of war" is correct, but that is a comparison, not saying that he IS a man. Please stop reading through Isaiah looking for Jesus. He isn't there.

I went to Christian seminary and didn't learn Hebrew. How sad that I had to learn these truths at 40 years old. We were taught to use the Strongs concordance which is very biased towards Christianity.
The literal [exact] translation of the Hebrew of Jeremiah 17 verse 5: *"Such did YHVH say: Cursed is the person who puts their faith in a man [literally: באדם, in a man, it doesn't say בבני אדם which would be "in man-kind/humans", it says באדם "ba'Adam", "in a man"] whom puts flesh as their helper and from YHVH (the Creator) does their heart veer from".*

Rabbi Singer has a point that to best understand the Hebrew Bible, it is most helpful to learn ancient Hebrew. That is quite challenge naturally - and the Rabbi is correct, if you take it up in college - too late. Nevertheless, so many New Testament readers, Christians, rabbis and everyone else studying the New Testament also have the similar issue - as how many know Aramaic and Greek. There is a reason this lecture is given in the language which has become the language of the Western World - English, which is a derivative of German, French and even Dutch - and that's not even all). Hopefully, we do the best we can - and the Almighty's message comes to us in a way we can wrap our minds around. I have to disagree with one aspect of what Rabbi Singer brought up about New York. It surely wasn't for the faint of heart growing up in Brooklyn, but if you went on the handball courts (which the Rabbi mentioned) some of the best players through the years were Jewish, and to this day they mix it up with everyone else New York has to offer. I even played a couple of Rabbis who ventured to the Coney Island courts.
