- In "Uncle Andy's A Sensation" Taryl goes over this old Sensation mower brought in by Uncle Andy. These tiny old machines were used for mowing in-between rows at cemeteries and other hard to reach spots. So let's get this old baby running like new again and take it over to Podunk cemetery for some mowin'. Oh, and that knucklehead Uncle Andy tries lending a hand only to end up lending his head - to a cinder block! In another funny yet informative how-to video from your pals at Grass Rats Garage... And as always... There's Your Dinner!!

you guys are a riot...
Is that really your first name? "Taryl" just curious
@@matthewadolph51 I know his real name but won't list it here.
Sensation cemetery mower? Seems like maybe Gravely missed an opportunity here.
I used a sensation as a teenager, my dad got it at a garage sale. Great mowers. I liked the heavy duty bearings on the wheels. Eventually the cast aluminum deck developed cracks in the sides so I reinforced the deck sides with steel plates which I drilled and bolted on. Good times
FYI = Sensation Lawn Mowers was a commercial lawnmower brand created by Howard Phelps in 1944.
The Sensation Lawn Mower Company was located in Ralston, Nebraska, USA. In 1966 the company was sold and relocated to North Omaha, Nebraska.
In 1982 the Sensation Lawn Mower Company was purchased by Gilson Brothers which kept the brand name Sensation and married the products to what would be become a very
distinctive orange and white color scheme.
In 1988, Gilson was bought out by Lawn Boy, which was in turn acquired by Toro in 1989.
This mower would’ve been a great skit for the Halloween episodes maybe next year 🤔
Ya have a zombie from the cemetery bring it in or the tall man from Phantasm bring it in.
@@yellowveedub yes that would be perfect 🧟
Taryl's Halloween edition
I could see Taryl as an opera singer. With his outro signature "whooooo" ! The amount of standing ovations, would be memorable.
I love these antique stuff - nothing beats that quality. What a cracking mower - cool! 👍
Wow! Haven't seen one of these mowers since I was a kid! My aunt & uncle lived next to a small graveyard and this was the type of mower the ground keeper used, thanks again!👍
Love the videos on 1970's engines. Keep them coming.
Cool cast base, that's a durable feature if you don't bang it against something. I had an 18" Montgomery Ward mower in 1962 or so, and it had that same Briggs engine. I bought it with $35 of my paper route earnings, and used it to mow yards in the neighborhood for three blocks in any direction. I charged three dollars for most yards, plus or minus fifty cents. There was a corner house on a steep hill that paid me four bucks, but maybe it should have been more. I had to drag the mower backwards, going sideways across the steep hill on three sides of the home. Back then almost nobody trimmed their sidewalks - but I would do it for an extra dollar, on my hands and knees with hand clippers. Nobody except pros had powered edgers, and string trimmers had not been invented yet. I made plenty of money mowing yards, at least fifty or eighty bucks a month, back when minimum wage was $1.25 I was making three dollars an hour or more.
The worst job ever was sweeping a long drive. The wind was blowing, and as soon as I finished from front to back enough detritus had blown in that I had to start over. I swept at least four times. Finally came a lull in the wind and I went to collect my fifty cents - and she paid by check! The corner grocery cashed the check, but it was illegible and they had to ask me was it fifty cents or five dollars. I was sorely empted to say five dollars, but I just couldn't do it.
Many years later I drove around and mowed yards for free when I guessed that the resident might not afford a regular service. It was a goodwill gesture and I made many people very happy.
Better than anything on TV. I'll tell you that. Great video guys
I had a little 3 wheeled Bunton cemetery mower. It was great. Cast magnesium deck.
Great jobTaryl. Your channel beats anything on tv. Always learn something and have a good laugh at the same time.
You and your crew are awesome, love your talents, taryl sons and friends for making the videos, teachings and comedy, BIG THANK YOU
Nobody can sing it like you Taryl ! Let it out baby. Screech it, Screech it, Screech it out loud 🔊. KISS
There was a old guy he would turn his push mower upside down for a few seconds and then turn it back right and it would start up first pull every time he said it was like using a primer bulb lol
I believe those mowers were sold around 1965
Love watching the skits I can tell you guys have as much fun making them as we do watching them
Taryl, You and the gang do SENSATIONal work! TYD!
Josh
We had a Sensation 20 inch mower when I was growing up back in the 1950's. It was neat because you could flip the handle over and mow in either direction.
I love the little acts at the start of the video! Such a fun channel slippers and taryl crack me up! As old elk skins says fire 🔥 it up 🆙
For all you Grass Rats out there, if you haven't seen the story of Muffkin the cat's rescue, You're missing the greatest episode on this channel
Always puts a smile on my face.
Great job!
I used one of these when I worked for the city cemetery! Thought I'd never see another.
That must have a power to weight ratio of a MiG-31 😂
"For the love of Harbor Freight..."
That's Tshirt worthy stuff right there!
I stumbled across your videos a few months ago and have been watching ever since. I have always enjoyed working on engines and your videos have inspired me to begin the small engine certification process. I got several of your tee shirts, and my wife loves the black button up shirt. Thanks for sharing these videos. They have been a real inspiration!
Great little mower, OK if you struggle to handle the bigger stuff too! Thanks for showing, and the laughs too guys👍
I see now Uncle Andy came from a broken home. Yeah! He broke most of it himself. What a real sensation!
i love this channel. ive learned so much over the years of watching taryl that ive been able to pass on some of the info and tips ive learned here. thank you taryl.
Very neat , scary, not too much, but FUN to watch!
Thank you for the Air-Cleaner-in-a-Bag trick. You're right. Our hands are always grimy and that not only keeps the filter clean but also keeps us from immediately having to wash our hands with Go-Jo. You ROCK, Tarryl!
INXS were actually cemetery maintenance equipment salesmen, even after they hit the big time. Their first song was a sales jingle to sell these little guys. "Are you ready for a NEW SENSATION?" That jingle made 'em rich when they released KICK. The surviving band members still sell cemetery equipment to this day. True story
I like seeing old equipment come back to life interesting on how they were designed thanks for the video
Terrell, I'm jealous of that one.
Great job
Wow so many Rock Stars all Writing Songs about Lawncare. Who knew? Well they probably knew a lot about Grass ! 😆😂🤣
A little humour goes a long way. I use to tell my daughter to sing solo. So low nobody can hear you lol
It gets us all flustered when you "Serenade" us Taryl lol Where has Junior been?
One cool little mower.Enjoy all your videos. All the best to you all.Theres ya dinner.
OMG.. You guys crack me up..😂😂 Love your video's, I watch your video's a lot and learned a lot from your video's when I first started lawnmower's and still do watch them.. Keep up the video's and the good job of what you're doing, you really explain a lot how to fix them with out cutting corners and easy to understand how a person can fix them, great job Brother...😁 👍👍👍
Thanks for the video, always enjoy watching!
Hey Taryl, you are fricken HILARIOUS!!! Love your singing skills, you got what it takes!!!! And Uncle Andy, well, he's Uncle Andy and what more can I say? (He's a total HOOT too!)
Poor Uncle Andy, he really means well. He just wants to help! 😂
That's cool. I have one of those little decks hanging on the wall, around 12-14", I always thought it was just a tiny mower for tiny yards.
I might have to make the missing parts to fix it.
Hey Taryl great video my friend God bless you and your crew take care and there's your Dinner
I guess for the occupants of the cemetery, this was their only sensation. Glad you got it operating again.
I loved those old 70s mowers with the controls on the blower housing. I haven't seen one in a very long time. MonkeyWards used to sell them.
I can’t believe how good you are at working on everything! Nice job!
What a coll little mower ! I think i felt a sensation just listening to it run ! LOL
You keep fixing things with these awesome videos and I'll keep watching!! Love the videos.
You guys are great love watching your show funny and informative!!!
Michael Hutchence says "Don't quit your day job."
Heh heh! Nice job on the mower.
What a cute little Sensation mower!
That blank face Taryl had 😂 like he already knows where this is going
Love how your videos are entertaining and informational, and you do have a voice of an Angel😅
Love seeing those old dead machines then Taryl bringing them back from the dead!
Wow lot of history in that mower! Man uncle any has a real hard head! Funny skit
your videos are really educational and funny. I always have to smile
Great job , great video . Especially the American Idol auditions !
I like how you can flip the handle to keep the discharge always to one side. Easy turning, easy clipping management. I kinda want one now.
There’s a Facebook group check it out. There’s yur dinner
My neighbor had one in the 70's and loved it.
The singing kills me 🤣 oh that's great!
Dang Skippy the little lawn mower is cool thank you so much for the information I didn't know you had to preload that choke before putting a carburetor back together thank you very much for your tips love the channel keep it going
one of those antique push or reel mower wooden handles on this thing will look so sweet! love the one piece aluminum cast housing on the mower! defiantly a collectable and a neat little everyday mower . 4 stroke reliable briggs motor, should last and last!
That's cool. Have seen a few hayter hawk 12" graveyard mowers here in Ireland. They've a little roller on the front and back too.
That mower is to die for,, lol
Taryl, , you are a master at fixing small engines, but you can leave the singing to Roger Daltrey. LOL.
I have one of these little Sensations, almost exactly the same. Mine doesn't have the control knob on the top of the shroud, but it's the same green mower body. It's a 3hp white 1967 Briggs, so this one is probably closer to the mid/late 60s. Cool little mowers!
Geesh first the swisher pull behind, which I'd like to have now this sensation, which I want. You guys have all the cool stuff
That’s a great mower for tight spaces!
Another good video from you grass rats, cheers !
Looks like an early Pilishave rotary shaver prototype.
Thanks for the laughs Taryl 👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
Some older corded electric mowers were bi-directional, because of cord issues, such as the twin bladed Sunbeam. Motor in middle, belt drive to blades. 16" or18" cut I think. Black and Decker had a single blade model.
That mower looks very similar to the Bobcat commercial mowers we used to use on the crews back in the 70’s. Same type of cast deck and inset wheels. Sturdy mowers.
Lovely little mower Taryl 👍🏻
INXS were an Australian rock band, formed as The Farriss Brothers in 1977 in Sydney, New South Wales.
I love the insane humor of taryl and gang
Had a big 6hp sensation 22 in. Look like an old Jacobsen deck as I recall. There is an owners group. They were one of the last manufacturers allow to sell mowers without blade brakes, because they were marketed solely to commercial users.
From Fargo North Dakota, I love your videos. I like your style and your videos are informative and fun to watch. Keep them coming
Great little mower!
Love these videos!
Sensations predecessor was BobCat. These were also manufactured in a 21 " push and self propelled models, all aluminum decks, quality was evident in the ball bearing wheels. These trim mowers were used before the invention of the common light weight string trimmer.
I love it you call mufflers muffkins lmao i used to call them that years ago as a kid😂🤣
Good fix Taryl! Realy cool mower too.
Cool to learn the pre load for the choke. Im good at carbs but that i did not know. Thanks tarryl.
Andy finally got a good deal from Ronnies Used Equipment and Parts Store. That was and easy one. Andy thought he was getting a 21 incher. Ha ha ha ha haaa....Thanks Mr. Dactyl!
Really enjoy your videos. If Podunk County High School has a mechanics dept. they would be very fortunate to have you as an instructor. The instructor when I was in H.S. knew what made an I.C.E. work but not sure he had ever done a complete overhaul and he was very, very, dry. Looking forward to the next one as always.
Thank you for your videos!!
Most of these old B&S verticle engines have a jacked up exhaust valve, I mean burnt. I usually reface them with a drill and a bench grinder, back to mowing. Set the valves and the points, really great engines.
It looks like a older bobcat walk behind lawnmower I have a bobcat with an icy 5 hp Briggs it’s really old but it still runs Great video👍
Hey Taryl, You Drain that Fuel out the same way I do it. 7:33
Good job like that little mower
With that singing, you should be on the stage...next one out of town...lol
I Like that Lilliputian mower. You are a genius!
intro always the best lol
You are so talented!
I found a Hahn Eclipse push mower someone threw out, it ran good but a little hot, so I sold it, cool video. Thanks
When you said "wiggle it just a little bit" I laughed my @ss off because I say that all the freaking time when I'm working around somebody and I'm trying to tell them what they have to do to finish the job sometimes you have to wiggle it you know just a little bit LOL keep on making the funny videos and educational I do appreciate them very much I'm a jack of all trades and I can make anything that has a combustion engine work again and I have a lot of customers that need help just like your business
How nice - the new air filter element MATCHES the color of your sweat shirt....
Breaks n scrap 'em 🤣🤣🤣
Oldie but goodie, those type of carbs I swap out with a 3x primer stye tank and carb, like going from carb to fuel injection lol
We love you Taryl and crew. Happy Turkey Day to all of you also
