He abuses contact to get steals, his defense in these examples is illegal. You cannot legally use your body to block the dribblers direction of movement, unless both feet are set beforehand.
Matisse Thybulle is an extreme pest on defense, too. The way he plays it is so different from everyone else; the offense never sees it coming. And if they fake him, he just bites right back on them. Legendary stamina
Defenders often are just reactive when they can also be proactive. For example, you can fake a poke or jab at the ball-side hand to force the offensive player to switch hands. Because you’re expecting it, you can get there and poke it away before it gets to their other hand. Basically, you as a Defender can create situations where the ball will be out of the control of the Offensive player for a split second. Don’t just react to the offensive player’s moves. Dictate their actions whenever you can.
The ball handler was going at 25% on the drive, what do you mean? He had plenty of room to recover. He made the read before the feed, and had time to get position.

Im a pretty good stealer myself. The perfect time when trying to get a steal is when someone does the under the leg and behind the back. The ball will eventually needs to travel one hand to the other. Just get ready to reach when the ball travels to their other hand.
I know what you mean I pride myself on my defense I usually catch their rhythm and wait till it’s about to get to their hand to launch my arm in to poke it out and usually results in an open layup
I don't understand why so many players take defense for granted. Everytime I either make a steal or a block, it feels like I already scored on my opponent. It's a great moral booster.
I love the videos! I made the basketball team and i rely more on my defense than anything. Coach told me i should watch more film and these vids help. Keep it up!!
Dope video. Can you please do a video on how Elfrid Payton allows the offensive player to go by him and then wraps his arm around the offensive player and steals the ball but doesn't poke it away? He actually controls the ball after he steals it! He did it last season when he had 7 steals in one game.
This video made me understand why hardens layup is so effective at drawing fouls. If he puts the ball out people are trained to swipe, so he just keep his arms out and wait for the swipe instead of bringing the ball back to his waist to finish
For younger players, knowing how to configure their hand helps to keep them from spraining their fingers is a good tip. I didn't know how important until I took martial arts as a kid. I'd sprain my index and pinky on my shooting hand so many times and would just have to shoot layups for a couple days
@@KahinAhmed72 I think the best advice I got was to keep the fingers slightly flexed. If you look up the war they teach how in martial arts how to have your hand to do an eye gouge on UA-cam that is what helped me from sprains
Pros are much better at swiping cleanly at the ball. I rarely see it in college without a foul called. The best time to steal the ball is when nobody has their hands on it: cutting through a passing lane for a clean intercept is best, but even in a one-on-one defensive position some players dribble too loosely and you can swipe it on the dribble. Best when the offensive player is near is to just tip the ball off course, and then scramble to go get it first.
🔥Fire video as always. Getting players to fall in love with the defensive side of the game as well. One of the best ways to steal the ball is against a crossover. I have a detailed breakdown on to steal crossovers on my channel if anyone's interested.
Honestly it’s just watching the ball and being ready to launch as soon as you see them committing to the pass. You kinda sag off a little to make the pass seem comfortable and just wait on the pass
Respect. But who cares? He came up in the film reel I was watching and I thought it was a good play to demonstrate what I was talking about. Never said he’s a top defender
@@ByAnyMeansBasketball I'm just joking around as a Wizards fan I see Rui's defensive lapses, just ironic that a good example to use since he's such a bad defender haha no beef
I have a question. Is it a foul to pry the ball out of someones hands? People in my local games try to do this all the time and i view it as pretty scummy and lame, but im not sure if it's actually illegal. To clarify, i have both hands on the ball getting ready to make a shot, someone runs up to me, grabs the ball while its still in my hands and literally just tries to pull it away.
I’m pretty sure most of these examples are illegal defense. When the defender shifts into the dribblers direction of movement and stops or shifts them by creating strong contact without being planted, it’s a blocking foul. When you are creating contact with the dribbler and reaching around to pick the ball, it’s a foul. Tough defenders abuse the contact and reach. All these ball handlers need to do is use their defenders contact against them by running into them so they can draw a foul.

So don't trust in your own goodness to save you. Transfer your trust to the savior and ask God to help you turn from your sins and you will receive God's free gift of eternal life. God loves you!
