How to "Get Low" The RIGHT Way 🔬

  • Too many coaches instruct their players to "get low" without knowing the technique behind it, which leads to frustration and possibly even injury. If we truly want to drop into these low positions, we need to understand how it's done.

Hip mobility is really important to get low. If you start playing at a young age you can easily get low, but at an older age it's really important to do mobility and stability exercises

Attention to Detail on Jrue Holiday?? he’s one of the most underrated scorers and defenders in the game in my opinion but he gets overlooked because he’s not so flashy.

The first detail of relaxation lit my light-bulb, that really changed everything, change of pace is really just us relaxing and tensing our muscles and body and switching between a tense and relaxed state.

4:05 is sooooooo true. I taught myself how to play basketball. Got absolutely obsessed freshman to sophomore years of college. Tore my meniscus while warming up, had to wait 6 months to get back into basketball like I did pre-injury.
A year later after cooking people like I used to I started to get busier with work & senior year school work and put on about 10/15 extra pounds. I kept trying to play the game as I did pre-injury while I was putting on more weight - the bad kind. Eventually I had a really bad ankle sprain and it happened about a week before the gym I went to closed for a 3 month renovation.
When that renovation ended I went back to hooping started getting cooked by other people... a lot... I was 25 pounds _heavier_ than I was 3 months ago. I eventually I hit the weight room to work on getting back to the weight I was pre-injury (ultimately 10 pounds more than pre-injury) and my game started to go back to cooking people instead of being cooked.
Now that covid hit pause on everything I'll have to do most of that work again, but now I know how to do it safely. I love this channel details make all the difference and I love it for that reason.

Dude thank you so much. I can’t even explain how much this helped me. I work on dribbling all the time and my handles are great but for whatever reason it just never translated to game time ball handling. Like I could handle the ball I could just never do anything with it. I finally understand why. This is literally mind blowing for me 😂

This is something I’m always teaching/sharing with players. I refer to it as levels. All running is a type of falling and driving a basketball even more so. Our shoulders act as a brake/balance so like if they are even or behind our hips it’s fucking impossible to accelerate. We want our shoulders in front of our hips and feet with our body on a diagonal plane when accelerating on drives. Also when your shoulders are back you’re on your heels as opposed to toes so there is no locomotion/force in your steps pushing off...

It's curious the things players need to be able to do which require strength and some that require relaxation and simple mobility. Relax, let yourself drop, but then be able to hold that and swivel to go in another direction. These are amazing to see and a big part of pro ball. In college there are far fewer players who do them well or need to.
