I have an earlier Columbia Outdry rain jacket (membrane on the outside; can't wet out; uses no DWR) and so far have been very happy with it. At least one model they offer now has pit zips and handwarmer style pockets that zip. To my knowledge, Columbia offered a backpack tough version of their Outdry technology before Gore made available their trail version of their Shakedry technology. Gore originally targeted the running community with their Shakedry technology. Yes, this technology is a little heavier than DWR solutions but when you really need to be dry in heavy rain conditions I think the weight penalty is worth that cost. My Titanium Outdry (no pit zips; earlier version) weighs 13 oz /369 gr in a large. I am 6'3" and about 195. There is ample room under it for layering of mid and base layers). First of all, by far the most thorough review of this product on the internet. Thank you for that. I’ve been through the ringer with rain shells (arc’teryx, mtn hardware, Columbia out dry, visp, etc) and all have failed for one reason or another. This jacket checks all the boxes for me outside of pit zips, but alas perfect gear across the board doesn’t exist. I Saw you’re 6’1 - 160 - and the medium seems to fit pretty snug. Im 6’3 190ish athletic build and I’m waffling between L and XL. I generally wear a L in most brands (like all mentioned above for example) but the cut of this jacket seems to be quite short? Short cut rain jackets are a deal breaker for me as packs tend to make them ride up as is. Any input is greatly appreciated, and thank you for all your fantastic content, keep it coming.
Hey Matt, thanks for tuning in! I just got back from 5 days on trail with a ton of rain and this thing held up like a champ! Warm and dry even with days of consistent rain. I totally get it about the search for the perfect jacket but honestly I haven't really missed the pit zips as much as I thought I would. As far as sizing it's a tough call. I heard that Gore changed their sizing in the last year because they were known for running small . So a medium actually should fit like a true medium. From the sizing I have experienced I would probably lean towards the XL if you are 6'3 190. Gore has free returns so if you could go down a size it wouldn't cost you anything besides a little extra time. If you pull the trigger let me know how it works out! -Juice
XL has arrived. It’s a bit roomier than I’d prefer, but sizing down to L won’t allow for as many different layering setups. I plan to utilize this jacket for trail running in the pnw rainy seasons and my wind/rain layer for backpacking. It seems to be the ultimate all in 1 piece…Can’t wait to see how it performs, especially breathability. I’ll report back after some testing.
I’ve been trying one of these at home. Fits well, and does feel durable and well-made. I notice it doesn’t have Aquaguard (or similar) sealed zips. Have you found any water comes in on yours through the front zipper? It does have a decently wide patch of the Shakedry fabric running behind the length of the zipper so I’m hopeful it should be OK, but thought I’d ask.
That was a fear of mine as well. I had a Gortex jacket made by Arcteryx with a similar zipper and it leaked. That has not been the case with this jacket as I've never had any water leak through the zipper. Apparently the water flap under the zipper does its job.
You may have misspoke starting @1:38. The long mouthful of Gore's marketing is Gore-Tex active with SHAKEDRY technology. The exterior layer is the gore-tex membrane with SHAKEDRY technology. Basically, a gore-tex membrane on the outside with some Gore magic sauce = SHAKEDRY. The backer isn't a separate Gore-Tex active fabric/membrane, the backer is is just that a backer made of 100% polyamide. Basically, Gore-Tex active isn't a separate membrane in of itself. Gore uses the Gore-Tex "active" to describe their line of products "designed for the intense aerobic demands of athletes and ideal for done-in-a-day activities."
It's great stuff right? Montbell does sell a Shakedry jacket for backpacking www.montbell.us/products/disp.php?p_id=1128632. However, from what I've read it's the original thinner Shakedry material that most other companies are using for running jackets. The Gore R7 is the only production jacket I l know of that is using the new Shakedry which is 30% thicker.
What type/size and weight (roughly) was your backpack during the hiking trips that you used this jacket for? Did you notice anything even close to a 'wetter' fabric underneath the backpack straps, or did it not soak up any water there either even after long periods of downpour?
For the most part I used the Zerk 40 pack by Mountainsmith which is a 40L pack that weighs about 24 oz. I carried anywhere from 14 pounds all the way up to 35 pounds using this jacket. The fabric did not wet out or even get close even under the pack straps in extended downpours. I had a few multi day rain storms and even then I was totally dry underneath. There were others in the group who's jackets did not fare so well. It's crazy that this jacket just wont wet out!
I have had both a North Face HyperAir and Gore Wear H5 fail on me and be refunded by the manufacturer. Mode of failure remains a mystery as water would still bead on the outside, but somehow also soak through, even in light rain after only 15min. Worst areas were shoulders (used with hydration pack for cycling) and inside of elbows.

Just bought this jacket and tested on a short trail run, and I have to say I am pretty impressed (and happy) about this jacket! My only concern is, like you said it as well, the durability - any news from your side, is it still fine? (Also, I am unsure how good this jacket will survive 1 year of regular machine washing sessions...)
No issues whatsoever. The Shakedry is still in tact and waterproof. I don't regularly wash my rain jacket so I'm not sure if that could have an impact the more times it goes through the wash (probably). If a funk builds up I'll wash but other than that I'll just air dry and continue to use.
It depends on the helmet but it probably would! I heard they are discontinuing Shakedry due to environmental concerns so you better snatch it up quick!
How does it hold up against tree abrasions? I have heard it is good for mountain biking. Do you think it capable of taking a couple of impacts before breaking?
Thanks Juice! I run 3x a week for cardio health and decided up my jacket game as my Kuhl waterproof packable jacket is simply non-breathable. There are a zillion waterproof/water resistant/water repellent jackets out there, and videos like yours really help make narrowing down the multitude of options so much easier. Along with the R7 I'm looking at the Arc'teryx Norvan LT Hoodie and Zeta SL, Patagonia Houdini and the Ronhill Gore-Tex Shakedry. Unfortunately there are supply chain issues everywhere so little or no stock. Guess I'll be holding onto my Kuhl for a bit longer... Thanks again!

Hi. Thanks for the review. I’m looking to get the trail version for mountain biking because it’s 30% thicker and my concern is durability. How to you think It would hold up to small bushes or the odd branch rubbing up against it.
It should be fine with small bushes or the odd branch but like any gear it's always best to minimize the possible damage those things can cause. Mine has definitely seen some branches but no issues so far.
just wanted to add that for those looking at this jacket, i'm 5'9" 175lbs, regular build; 34" waist and 40" chest and the XL fits me perfect...enough room for a mid layer and not too tight. i agree that the fabric wrist closures are not the best because they take a long time to dry but today on my mtb ride it performed very well...steady rain the whole ride and did not get wet at all. really happy with this jacket so far.
You mentioned downside lack of pockets. This R7 ShakeDry came out at the same time as the H5 ShakeDry, with the H5 made more specifically for hiking. Where R7 was specified for use with light backpack, H5 was specified for a hiking backpack. Also, the H5 has the front pockets. Slightly heavier than the R7, but more fit for the use you gave the R7. I'd love to own one (ShakeDry jacket with hood for use with backpack) but unfortunately both of them are not available anymore 😔
ShakeDry and softshell very water-resistant fabrics makes me feel like another kind of tech item that used to feature in Star Trek series now actually becoming reality 🙃
The H5 was a great jacket, unfortunately Gore discontinued their hiking line like you mentioned. I mention the H5 and Andrew Skurka's review of it on another of my videos. The Gore R7 is still available, there's a link in the video description for Amazon or you can find it on their website. It's a pretty amazing material!
hello, one question, compared to other Shakedry jackets does this compress less? From the video it seemed to take on a slightly larger volume. And that volume would be inconvenient if I had to carry it with me and I don't have a backpack.
I'm so over reapplying DWR on jackets and tempted to give this a go. How's it gone long term for you? I know it's only advised to be used with a light pack, which is a bit vague. What's your gut feeling on using this on multi day hikes where you might be carrying 20-25 pounds?
Hey Gavan. No got feeling required here. I've been using this jacket on every trip for the last two years for a few thousand miles and carrying anywhere from 15-30 lbs (for an FKT). So far I've had zero wear and it has never wet out. If you backpack or run a lot and are looking for the lightest and best rain jacket on the market this is it. Even after two years there still isn't another better rain jacket.
@@juicehikes5436 Thanks again for your input. I ended up buying a local brand here in Australia 'Kathmandu' Zeolite Gore-Tex Shakedry. Their gear is not something I'd usually recommend, but it seems to be the same heavier fabric as the old H5, and R7 Trail. Those Gorewear options weigh in at 235g and 175g respectively. More weight in the H5 as it had more features and pockets. The Kathmandu jacket is 220g with no pockets or add-ons much like the R7 Trail. Most of the lighter fabric jackets I can see on the Gorewear site exclusively for running or cycling seem to be around 110-135g. Fingers crossed this one holds up with a pack!
I believe Gore changed their sizing over the past year. Their stuff always used to fit small to size but I've heard that's changed. If you are a true M you'd probably be ok.
The R7 is holding up great! You can't go wrong with either, the Visp is also a great jacket. A few friends have the Visp and really like it. I will say the R7 will keep you dryer if you are in extended rain than the Visp but other than that they are both pretty even.
For the price you really can't go wrong with frog toggs. They are cheap, lightweight, have good water resistance, and are pretty packable. The downside is the durability so it's more of a disposable jacket and it doesn't add much warmth to your system. If you are looking to save a few bucks I would say go with the frog toggs for sure!
Prob the frog togs UL rain suit everyone gets at Walmart more worth the price than the xlite... Breaths the best and wets out the least of all rain jackets. Durability only an issue if not careful. I just pretend it's the 90s and baggy jackets are in. Pro: it's 16$ so you don't have to be paranoid about it getting damaged. Con: no pockets, pit zips or cinch chord as waist. Imo perfect if it had the waist cinch chord to trap heat it breaths so well tho needs no pit zips
Hello. I bought this jacket based on this video as I needed something for riding downhill. As wind protection it is second to non, but when I come home moisture builds up and I get wet. I was expecting more breathability as everybody talks about shakedry like about miracle. Riding down around 12 degrees celsius and having only 1 base layer under neath. Am I doing something wrong?
Hey Jozef, there is no material on the planet that is as breathable as your skin. This jacket is as breathable as you can get but if you are a heavy sweater during exercise there's not much you can do. Maybe ditch the base layer and just wear a t-shirt underneath? 12 degrees celsius is pretty warm to wear a base layer as well as a rain jacket IMO.
Could this replace a Patagonia Houdini air jacket? I know im comparing a windbreaker with this rain jacket but people praise the shakedrys breathability
Still like the day I bought it! No visible wear. It hasn't gotten a ton of use this year as most of the places I've gone have been extremely dry but the jacket is still going strong.

If they could copyright the "Klättermusen" (swedish brand) pockets it would be perfekt. They have two pockets on eatch side of the chest that are placed quite hight up so you can use an hip belt and srernum strap with the jacket and still have full use of the pockets.
Hi, I like this jacket due to the hood but will propably use it more for cycling. Is it still okay to go for this one or would you get the cycling version? This one unfortunately doesn’t have a hood. Also I think this one is more universal in general. I think having this long backside hanging down while jogging is more annoying than having your butt not covered occasionally while riding your bike.
Have you found a new version or alternative to this jacket? I’m looking for something that will keep me dry and not get hot/stuffy. This jacket seems to be unavailable now

Thank you. It does look like the Montbell is the lighter fabric: "When the fabric is exposed to friction it can develop a shiny appearance. Although this has no effect on the performance of the membrane, applying excessive friction to the membrane may cause fabric ripping and result in water penetration. DO NOT place this product near sharp objects or apply excessive force. " I like the cuffs on the Montbell and I don't backpack a huge amount of miles or pack with a large load. Plus the price is better. I will add the Montbell to my "wish list".
You don't want rain jackets to be Warm. That means that the breathability is not the best. Also is it blue sign approved, recycled materials or recyclable. Patagonia's Storm Racer jacket is 3 layer and is blue sign approved,uses recycled materials and is recyclable and weight is very close.
Sounds like a cool jacket, Patagonia is definitely leading the way in the outdoor industry when it comes to using recycled materials which is awesome. Since it isn't listed in the description I don't believe this one is. Keeping the wind off you provides warmth while still allowing the jacket to "breathe" especially when put on over a mid layer. Like I mentioned in the video, there are very few comparable jackets on the market when it comes to breathability unless they are using this same material. Thanks for watching!
I'm not as familiar with the cycling gear Gore makes but typically I see that the c7 series has more options and maybe a little more race focused than the c5 but I'm not 100%. For their rain jackets I'm pretty sure they are both made of the same lighter Shakedry material.
The reason they don't have pit zips is because the membrane that provides the breathability relies on the temperature difference between the outside air and the insulated air inside the jacket. If they had pit zips, the outside air is allowed inside and will decrease the breathability as the warmer insulated air is used to push the moisture out. If your using pit zips for "extra breathability" and intentionally bypassing the membrane, then just unzip the front of the jacket.
Both a North Face HyperAir and GoreWear H5 have failed on me. Primarily used for cycling/day hikes with a hydration pack, both jackets performed great (HyperAir was even better) and were permanently beading rain. However after 2yrs the HyperAir started soaking through and the H5 had the same problem after only 6mos. I'm not sure why these failed as the membrane was still beading water and looked like new, but shoulders and inside of elbows would get soaked. I got refunded on both jackets and I'm looking for another Shakedry product because I like it so much :P
Whats the Waterproof lvl? I like a jacket that can take atleast 20,000mm hydrostatic rating and 20,000g/m2 in breathability. Whent to Gore website, couldn't find any info on that... Anyone know?? Greatings from Sweden
Gore doesn't post it but Montbell does who uses the lighter version of the Shakedry. They claim 50,000 g/m2 waterproofness and 80,000 g/m2/24hrs for breathability.
I’m always very dubious about praise heaped on rain jackets. In my experience, if you’re engaged in any kind of physical activity other than a gentle stroll (without a pack) and it’s raining - you’re gonna get wet. Not doubting your own positive experience but since you yourself say you’re missing the pit-zips then it ain’t the “holy grail” is it? The holy grail (for you) would be this jacket with pit zips ....and a couple more pockets...and different cuff fabric 😜
Honestly I would be skeptical as well because prior to this, I’ve never had a rain jacket that has kept me dry. I say in the video that it’s the “Holy grail of rain jackets available today” because you’re right, if it had pit zips and a couple more pockets it would be better in my opinion. Gore actually made this jacket it was called the Gore H5 Shakedry but they discontinued their H (hiking line) over a year ago and that jacket is no longer available.

Personally I’ll buy an Arc’teryx norvan SL (the non insulated one) for the same price, as it is the exact same thing. I’ve owned my norvan for almost 3 years and I’m a huge fan of its performance.
The Norvan is a really great jacket but it’s not the exact same thing and not made for use with anything more than a running vest. The Norvan features the 1st generation Shakedry material which is thinner and less resistant to abrasion. Gore made this 2nd generation Shakedry 30% thicker for use with a pack. If you never really wear a pack the Norvan is fantastic!
Holy grail and breathability 😏two big words 👍Breathability jackets doesn't exist 🤷♂️some are a little bit and some are not . As soon you sweat it's over,that's my experience.
No rain jacket is going to be as "breathable" as your skin so if it's warm the best bet is to just embrace the rain and power through. This jacket is as breathable as you can find, but you can still sweat out in it if the temps are too warm.

Nice! Looks like a great jacket. Is it the same material? I couldn't tell by the website and I haven't seen the V2 Shakedry from any other company. Arcteryx and several other companies use the Shakedry material but it is a lighter less durable version of it.

You’re not getting the activity this jacket is made for. The gore tex membrane is the exterior.. there’s no nylon face fabric. It’s made for running or biking.

I would definitely recommend. Use varies person to person but mine has been going strong for 2+ years with zero wear and is still totally waterproof.

It depends on the helmet but it probably would! I heard they are discontinuing Shakedry due to environmental concerns so you better snatch it up quick!
How does it hold up against tree abrasions? I have heard it is good for mountain biking. Do you think it capable of taking a couple of impacts before breaking?
Hi Rob, I would say yes but obviously like anything it depends on the severity. I've taken it through brush quite a bit and never had any issues.

Thanks Juice! I run 3x a week for cardio health and decided up my jacket game as my Kuhl waterproof packable jacket is simply non-breathable. There are a zillion waterproof/water resistant/water repellent jackets out there, and videos like yours really help make narrowing down the multitude of options so much easier. Along with the R7 I'm looking at the Arc'teryx Norvan LT Hoodie and Zeta SL, Patagonia Houdini and the Ronhill Gore-Tex Shakedry. Unfortunately there are supply chain issues everywhere so little or no stock. Guess I'll be holding onto my Kuhl for a bit longer... Thanks again!
Thanks for tuning in. All the jackets you listed are pretty great so it sounds like you're down to a pretty good list. Keep in mind that the R7 is the only jacket made with the more durable Shakedry. The other Shakedry jackets you listed use Gore's lighter less durable Shakedry.

Hi. Thanks for the review. I’m looking to get the trail version for mountain biking because it’s 30% thicker and my concern is durability. How to you think It would hold up to small bushes or the odd branch rubbing up against it.
It should be fine with small bushes or the odd branch but like any gear it's always best to minimize the possible damage those things can cause. Mine has definitely seen some branches but no issues so far.
just wanted to add that for those looking at this jacket, i'm 5'9" 175lbs, regular build; 34" waist and 40" chest and the XL fits me perfect...enough room for a mid layer and not too tight. i agree that the fabric wrist closures are not the best because they take a long time to dry but today on my mtb ride it performed very well...steady rain the whole ride and did not get wet at all. really happy with this jacket so far.
What about durability after 2 years use?
You mentioned downside lack of pockets. This R7 ShakeDry came out at the same time as the H5 ShakeDry, with the H5 made more specifically for hiking. Where R7 was specified for use with light backpack, H5 was specified for a hiking backpack. Also, the H5 has the front pockets. Slightly heavier than the R7, but more fit for the use you gave the R7. I'd love to own one (ShakeDry jacket with hood for use with backpack) but unfortunately both of them are not available anymore 😔
ShakeDry and softshell very water-resistant fabrics makes me feel like another kind of tech item that used to feature in Star Trek series now actually becoming reality 🙃
The H5 was a great jacket, unfortunately Gore discontinued their hiking line like you mentioned. I mention the H5 and Andrew Skurka's review of it on another of my videos. The Gore R7 is still available, there's a link in the video description for Amazon or you can find it on their website. It's a pretty amazing material!
hello, one question, compared to other Shakedry jackets does this compress less? From the video it seemed to take on a slightly larger volume. And that volume would be inconvenient if I had to carry it with me and I don't have a backpack.
It may be very slightly more volume but probably not anything you would notice. Are you just stuffing it in a running vest or something?

I'm so over reapplying DWR on jackets and tempted to give this a go. How's it gone long term for you? I know it's only advised to be used with a light pack, which is a bit vague. What's your gut feeling on using this on multi day hikes where you might be carrying 20-25 pounds?
Hey Gavan. No got feeling required here. I've been using this jacket on every trip for the last two years for a few thousand miles and carrying anywhere from 15-30 lbs (for an FKT). So far I've had zero wear and it has never wet out. If you backpack or run a lot and are looking for the lightest and best rain jacket on the market this is it. Even after two years there still isn't another better rain jacket.

@@juicehikes5436 Thanks again for your input. I ended up buying a local brand here in Australia 'Kathmandu' Zeolite Gore-Tex Shakedry. Their gear is not something I'd usually recommend, but it seems to be the same heavier fabric as the old H5, and R7 Trail. Those Gorewear options weigh in at 235g and 175g respectively. More weight in the H5 as it had more features and pockets. The Kathmandu jacket is 220g with no pockets or add-ons much like the R7 Trail. Most of the lighter fabric jackets I can see on the Gorewear site exclusively for running or cycling seem to be around 110-135g. Fingers crossed this one holds up with a pack!
Does it fit small to size? A measurement tool says I should get size L but I usually get M
I believe Gore changed their sizing over the past year. Their stuff always used to fit small to size but I've heard that's changed. If you are a true M you'd probably be ok.
How is R7 holding up? Trying to decide between this and EE Visp.
The R7 is holding up great! You can't go wrong with either, the Visp is also a great jacket. A few friends have the Visp and really like it. I will say the R7 will keep you dryer if you are in extended rain than the Visp but other than that they are both pretty even.
Curious with your experience with rain jackets. I'm about to cheap out for a frog toggs xlite. You ever own one?
For the price you really can't go wrong with frog toggs. They are cheap, lightweight, have good water resistance, and are pretty packable. The downside is the durability so it's more of a disposable jacket and it doesn't add much warmth to your system. If you are looking to save a few bucks I would say go with the frog toggs for sure!
Prob the frog togs UL rain suit everyone gets at Walmart more worth the price than the xlite... Breaths the best and wets out the least of all rain jackets. Durability only an issue if not careful. I just pretend it's the 90s and baggy jackets are in. Pro: it's 16$ so you don't have to be paranoid about it getting damaged. Con: no pockets, pit zips or cinch chord as waist. Imo perfect if it had the waist cinch chord to trap heat it breaths so well tho needs no pit zips
Hello. I bought this jacket based on this video as I needed something for riding downhill. As wind protection it is second to non, but when I come home moisture builds up and I get wet. I was expecting more breathability as everybody talks about shakedry like about miracle. Riding down around 12 degrees celsius and having only 1 base layer under neath. Am I doing something wrong?
Hey Jozef, there is no material on the planet that is as breathable as your skin. This jacket is as breathable as you can get but if you are a heavy sweater during exercise there's not much you can do. Maybe ditch the base layer and just wear a t-shirt underneath? 12 degrees celsius is pretty warm to wear a base layer as well as a rain jacket IMO.
Could this replace a Patagonia Houdini air jacket? I know im comparing a windbreaker with this rain jacket but people praise the shakedrys breathability
It's personal preference but I use this for a windbreaker as well. I haven't felt the need for both a windbreaker and a rain jacket.

Still like the day I bought it! No visible wear. It hasn't gotten a ton of use this year as most of the places I've gone have been extremely dry but the jacket is still going strong.

I’ve had it for over two years now with zero wear. Obviously individual wear may vary depending on your use but it’s been great for me.

If they could copyright the "Klättermusen" (swedish brand) pockets it would be perfekt. They have two pockets on eatch side of the chest that are placed quite hight up so you can use an hip belt and srernum strap with the jacket and still have full use of the pockets.
Hi, I like this jacket due to the hood but will propably use it more for cycling. Is it still okay to go for this one or would you get the cycling version? This one unfortunately doesn’t have a hood. Also I think this one is more universal in general. I think having this long backside hanging down while jogging is more annoying than having your butt not covered occasionally while riding your bike.
The hood is a deal breaker for me. Also this material is the trail version which is 30% thicker than the cycling version.

Tough call but the jacket does run on the smaller size. I'd probably go with a large if you want a puffy under it.

Thank you. It does look like the Montbell is the lighter fabric: "When the fabric is exposed to friction it can develop a shiny appearance. Although this has no effect on the performance of the membrane, applying excessive friction to the membrane may cause fabric ripping and result in water penetration. DO NOT place this product near sharp objects or apply excessive force. " I like the cuffs on the Montbell and I don't backpack a huge amount of miles or pack with a large load. Plus the price is better. I will add the Montbell to my "wish list".
You don't want rain jackets to be Warm. That means that the breathability is not the best. Also is it blue sign approved, recycled materials or recyclable. Patagonia's Storm Racer jacket is 3 layer and is blue sign approved,uses recycled materials and is recyclable and weight is very close.
Sounds like a cool jacket, Patagonia is definitely leading the way in the outdoor industry when it comes to using recycled materials which is awesome. Since it isn't listed in the description I don't believe this one is.
Keeping the wind off you provides warmth while still allowing the jacket to "breathe" especially when put on over a mid layer. Like I mentioned in the video, there are very few comparable jackets on the market when it comes to breathability unless they are using this same material.

Do you know the difference between the c7 and the 1985 c5 ?
I'm not as familiar with the cycling gear Gore makes but typically I see that the c7 series has more options and maybe a little more race focused than the c5 but I'm not 100%. For their rain jackets I'm pretty sure they are both made of the same lighter Shakedry material.
The reason they don't have pit zips is because the membrane that provides the breathability relies on the temperature difference between the outside air and the insulated air inside the jacket. If they had pit zips, the outside air is allowed inside and will decrease the breathability as the warmer insulated air is used to push the moisture out. If your using pit zips for "extra breathability" and intentionally bypassing the membrane, then just unzip the front of the jacket.

Both a North Face HyperAir and GoreWear H5 have failed on me. Primarily used for cycling/day hikes with a hydration pack, both jackets performed great (HyperAir was even better) and were permanently beading rain. However after 2yrs the HyperAir started soaking through and the H5 had the same problem after only 6mos. I'm not sure why these failed as the membrane was still beading water and looked like new, but shoulders and inside of elbows would get soaked. I got refunded on both jackets and I'm looking for another Shakedry product because I like it so much :P
Mines still going strong after a year and 1000 miles with no soak through. Hopefully that continues because the Shakedry is amazing stuff!
Whats the Waterproof lvl? I like a jacket that can take atleast 20,000mm hydrostatic rating and 20,000g/m2 in breathability. Whent to Gore website, couldn't find any info on that...

Gore doesn't post it but Montbell does who uses the lighter version of the Shakedry. They claim 50,000 g/m2 waterproofness and 80,000 g/m2/24hrs for breathability.

I’m always very dubious about praise heaped on rain jackets. In my experience, if you’re engaged in any kind of
physical activity other than a gentle stroll (without a pack) and it’s raining - you’re gonna get wet.
Not doubting your own positive experience but since you yourself say you’re missing the pit-zips then it ain’t the “holy grail” is it?
The holy grail (for you) would be this jacket with pit zips ....and a couple more pockets...and different cuff fabric 😜
Honestly I would be skeptical as well because prior to this, I’ve never had a rain jacket that has kept me dry. I say in the video that it’s the “Holy grail of rain jackets available today” because you’re right, if it had pit zips and a couple more pockets it would be better in my opinion. Gore actually made this jacket it was called the Gore H5 Shakedry but they discontinued their H (hiking line) over a year ago and that jacket is no longer available.

Personally I’ll buy an Arc’teryx norvan SL (the non insulated one) for the same price, as it is the exact same thing. I’ve owned my norvan for almost 3 years and I’m a huge fan of its performance.
The Norvan is a really great jacket but it’s not the exact same thing and not made for use with anything more than a running vest. The Norvan features the 1st generation Shakedry material which is thinner and less resistant to abrasion. Gore made this 2nd generation Shakedry 30% thicker for use with a pack. If you never really wear a pack the Norvan is fantastic!

Holy grail and breathability 😏two big words 👍Breathability jackets doesn't exist 🤷♂️some are a little bit and some are not . As soon you sweat it's over,that's my experience.
No rain jacket is going to be as "breathable" as your skin so if it's warm the best bet is to just embrace the rain and power through. This jacket is as breathable as you can find, but you can still sweat out in it if the temps are too warm.

Nice! Looks like a great jacket. Is it the same material? I couldn't tell by the website and I haven't seen the V2 Shakedry from any other company. Arcteryx and several other companies use the Shakedry material but it is a lighter less durable version of it.

You’re not getting the activity this jacket is made for. The gore tex membrane is the exterior.. there’s no nylon face fabric. It’s made for running or biking.
