This is great, love hearing about the design process.
I just use my 15 bucks rain jacket und my 15 bucks rain pants. Works wonderful. I take a ride every Time it's raining and I won't get wet at all.

Love Gore Wear. Not only there jackets but there windstopper material too. Haven’t had a chance to try there padded bib shorts normally I stick to Assos. But all there other gear is top notch. Great video
The bib shorts are seriously chefs kiss good a bit of a hidden gem I never see many wearing them other than me it's all castelli and rapha.

Since I started hiking as a teenager 30+ yrs ago nothing comes close to Gore-Tex. The biggest advance has been how they made the material so much softer. I still have my first hiking jacket.
People who dont appreciate Gore-tex simply haven't done enough riding in the rain. As good as the scotchguard is, just few abrasive muddy rides and it's straight back to being a participant in an osmosis experiment.
Well VAUDE did this kind of jacket 2 years ago...with a pertex windshield and a 3 layer ceplex membrane, nearly at the same spots... just a lot cheaper. it was called the croz UL i think but it didnt sell very well

#gmbntech Hi, friends! Weird thing just happened after I changed DT Swiss star ratchet from basic to 54T. It works with no problem, but the sound :(. After some hour of heavy ride the hub became almost silent, compered to what was just before the ride. I rode a few hours more , but still silent. Came back home, did some bike wash and boooom , the hub is "singing" again. What can cause it? Thanx!
hi, how it is laminated(gore tex membrane) on the outer shell? Glue? by heat or how?
My problem with Gore is simply the price, dropping £400-500 on a rain set as a student is totally out of the question, especially when I can get things that can last me 2-3 years for £100-200. Sure Gore might last longer, but we don't know if there is some better tech out in 3 years time or if I have a crash that will wreck it no matter what, plus spending £400-500 is a lot of money.
For me it I will pay those prices for skiing kit because to me that is where I feel like I will need to stay dry and warm. So maybe people who want that feeling while biking I can understand why someone might spend that amount
good idea is to buy on sale if you can, sometimes some shops get overload of stock and can sell for great deal,
also if you got Outlet stores, those they sell things that are not the latest product, but with heavily reduced price.

@@mtbboy1993 I have never seen gore products in any of those shops and when they go on sale, then it is usually a 20-30% discount at most, which still puts them quite above a lot of the competition. Granted I live in Denmark, so I don't know if gore shows up in outlet stores in the UK or any other country, I can only speak from my experience. I understand that they are probably the best of the best right now, but they also know what they want for their products. I don't think that I will buy gore until I have finished my degree and been working in my degrees field for some time.
Is the fully waterproof jacket noisy? Can you use this jacket for running as well?
When I was looking for my jacket, there were 1, 2 & 3 skin Gore jackets. The single skin seemed too fragile for MTB, and the triple skin less flexible (& perhaps too hot?). The 2 skin seems durable, but is comfortable as a warmish ride jacket on a cold morning, and is my choice when rain threatens. My older jacket does let water through in strong rain. How does that happen when it's the fabric pore size that keeps cold rain out? Washing is followed by Nikwax application.
Leaky seams probably.
Even if the gore is keeping the rainwater out, my sweat is soaking me on the inside :/

Did you guys notice that Ludvic had a terrible time keeping his eyes open when looking at or towards the camera? He managed to get them open to look at Doddy but they'd close right up again if he looked towards the camera. Odd.

It's not a physical but a psychological issue. Some people are unable to make eye contact, in many cases due to childhood abuse issues.

The Sales manager is like "Sacrebleu...you woke me up and you don't know why we have more products to complicate customers?"
I still think "breathable and waterproof" is just snake oil. I've never had one that breathed enough to actually cool me, much less "let water vapor" escape.
I am afraid that is my experience as well. Not on bike but in the mountains. But anyway, still better than nothing. And quite expensive. But - especially in the mountains - it can save the life.
It is not breathable in the term we associate it with. You still sweat inside with no cooling from the outside. The only difference is that the membrane allows the sweat VAPOR to escape, so you don't boil. 5y GoreTex user, I use it only when it is 0-5°C and pouring with rain. All the other times I prefer WindStopper. Even if it gets wetter from the rain, I am still dryer inside.

Gore Tex doesn't work in climates where the humidity is high. The difference in humidity between the air inside the jacket and the air outside it drives the vapour through the membrane. If you ride in the UK, it should come as no surprise that it doesn't work for this reason, particularly for high effort sports like biking - it's probably reasonably okay for low intensity hiking. It supposedly works very well in cold dry air, but most places with that climate don't have much rain in the first place.
Todd Hanson I have a Rab jacket that uses eVent and it is incredibly ‘breathable’. I always sweated like a dog in a GoreTex jacket. One day I was out and about with my wife, it was rainy and grim, she was wearing her GoreTex Paclite jacket and I was wearing my Rab eVent. She had to take her jacket off because she was getting hot and sweaty, I was comfortable the whole time.
I heard a rumour that in order to get a license to use GoreTex fabrics companies have to agree to not use any competing brands, which is why most brands offer GoreTex in their premium models, and in in-house technology (Hy-Vent for The North Face) in their lower ranges. You’ll struggle to find a company that offers GoreTex and eVent jackets.

The only jackets that I've ever had (although not for biking!) that were truely waterproof are waxed jackets. I've worn a barbour out and have a drizabone for about 8yrs now for general outdoors, groundswork, fishing and they do actually keep dryness (but I do rewax say every 4 years).
I've not used Gore, but over the years had sooooo many technical or sports jackets for mtb and fishing and they all let water in by the end of a winter... without fail!. Sometimes round the neck, sometimes at the armpit.... always the back somewhere if you also use a camelback/rucksack.
Does anyone have a truely waterproof "technical" jacket and trousers that keeps them dry and for a full winter season and more? I kinda feel I've just given in and accept I'm getting a soaking, always pack a towel in the car and prey I don't get stopped driving home sitting there in a Tshirt and my padded pants!

Usually it's not the rain that bothers me, but cleaning the bike from all the mud on an apartment's balcony is the real pain. Tend to prefer ride only when it's at least semi-dry.
Not really viable in the UK as that would limit the rides considerably

this month it has been raining a lot.
few days had -5 in the night, last month.
I clean it in the shower, then I hand try it, starting from the grips, this has to be done after evry single ride in the winter due to salted bike paths and roads, whole bike gets covered in it.

Some jeans/baggies and a casual shirt can be great for a dry day riding a bike park with some sort of lift access or shuttle! But if you are riding in wet weather we think it's really worth investing in some technical garments! If you are comfortable and dry you can ride for longer 👍

13:45 normal fall weather in Norway. 14:24 had few of those moments when riding, or harder, sudden extreme wind, the worst part of it is having to ride weirdly to keep going straight, but not used GoreTex Jacked in year, had one old but was fro ma thrift shop and was from the 80s I think, the brand does not exist anymore but was Gore-Tex and was quite heavy and bulky.
I also used Gore Tex Asics shoes, but been using a Bergans jacket for the last few years I got it for a good deal in my local sports shop, but I managed to tear a big hole in it, so had to fix it with Gorilla Tape.
I have't tried new Gore Tex jackets.

GORE Wear have hands down the best gear against the elements. I've tried I don't know how many jackets, bibs, shorts or even overshoes but theirs have done the job to a point where I said out loud "seriously? It's THIS good?!".

You should delve into the actual invention of GoreTex. It relates directly to the 1988 Winter Olympics and a Canadian company called Sun Ice and a certain individual who happens to be a friend of mine that brought together the companies that developed Gore Tex. You might not know that Gore was a company that was focused on making artificial arteries. Cool story.

Gore's patent for Gore Tex expired recently, thats why you see so many similar fabrics. Theyre all about marketing now to jack up prices.
I did not know that, where did you get the info from?
The main Gore-Tex patent expired in 1997 and some companies have brought out similar products over the years. We think the fact that many large outdoor brands choose to use Gore-Tex fabric in their garments over other alternatives shows their position within the market.
I just wear my rain jacket. No 250 euros + needed.

Same when I used to do match fishing. Daiwa gore-tex was £250 for trousers and £250 for the jacket. Had them for 10 years and never leaked. Being England I spent a lot of time sitting in the rain so I think it was worth it. But that was just sitting on a box staying relatively clean, I don't think I'd like spending that kind of money for it to get filthy or potentially ripped on branches etc every time I wore it.
Simon was thinking the same, I had Halkon Hunt make mine, expensive but worth every penny. Always been reluctant to spend the money on a goretex Mtb jacket because of the chance of ripping etc. Maybe I will take the plunge.

I have gere tex Gore Active jacket.It is not waterproof.It was as new, but after 1 year of use not so.I tryed what they recomended to restore waterproofness, nothing work( special soap for geretex ).Same thing happend with la sportiva goretex hiking boots.Goretex is big lie, nice marketing, nothing else

Nothing is really waterproof, just some keeps you dry for longer. Jacket that doesn't breath just makes you wet from inside out. Breathable shower proof jacket and merino underneath all you need. Even when wet merino still keeps you warm.
10% more breatable then a plastic bag.
But it is plastic.
