      The material is 100% unicorn so I have high expectations.

      @@OHMYGODDOG I only spring for unicorn that is unethically sourced, gives it a much better texture.

    Hi Juice! Where are you seeing that the gore Trail is 30% more durable than the Montbell shake dry option? This looks like a great jacket!

      Hey Matt! I reached out to Gore directly and asked. This is the response I received:
      "The GORE® R7 GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY™ Trail Hooded Jacket (item 100457) is a
      slightly heavier laminate than the Arcteryx Norvan jacket. The Norvan
      jacket is the same, original laminate, as our other style SHAKEDRY™ jackets
      (the original laminate is thinner and more susceptible to damage.) This
      newer, second laminate style, features a 30% stronger backer fabric,
      allowing the garment to be worn with a light backpack and less delicate
      that the original styles. It is only about 2 ounces heavier. Our garments
      feature a flap behind the zipper, which is intended to work as a gutter for
      any water that would penetrate through; the water is directed down the
      flap and out the bottom of the jacket."

      the weights of the r7 and the montbell peak jacket (the shakedry jacket) are basically identical, so I think they're using the same material and should be comparably durable.

    So, did the jacket live up to the expectations? Did the zipper soak through? Been trying it with a backpack?

      This is the best rain jacket on the market. I've tested in extensive hail and rain storms that lasted for more than a day and zero soak through. The zipper performed excellent and no water came through there either. During my Centennial trail thru hike the other guys in my group had jackets from EE and Zpacks and both soaked through after a few hours of downpour. Durability had been stellar as well. I honestly could not be more impressed. If you're considering purchasing there's a link in the description.

    Hello! Thanks a lot for the info! I have a wide back and had to buy a Salomon S-Lab Motionfit 360 Jacket. The same stuff.

      Hey Dennis. I've heard good things about the S-Lab Motionfit. I think it's made of the Gen1 Shakedry just like the Arcteryx Norvan which is a little bit thinner material. The Gore R7 is the only jacket I know of that's used the 2nd Gen Shakedry that is a little bit thicker and abrasion resistant for use with a pack.

      Hey! Thank you for your tactful and important clarification. What do you think of the Mountain Equipment Impellor Shakedry Jacket?

    Sizing? Height/weight measurements?

    • @juicehikes5436
      @juicehikes5436  4 роки тому

      Sizing runs on the small side so I would size up. I am 6'1 and weigh about 165 and wear a Medium.

    • @antflynn7
      @antflynn7 Рік тому

      So are you saying a medium in the R7 trail fits you okay? Because other reviews say size up. I’m a medium in Salomon Bonatti which is a close fit at 6ft 1, 170 lbs. How is it on shoulder width and torso length? Thanks
      Keen to buy shakedry before they are all gone since gore seem to have run out of it
