  • Hi, Dave Cahill here with Cahill Golf. I am at the Cimarron Golf Resort in Palm Springs, Ca. Today I will talk about hitting a pitch shot from hard pan to a green that is about 10 feet away.
The task I want to accomplish is to make sure my angle of descent into the ball is steeper rather than shallow. If the angle is shallow the club will bounce off the ground. The three things I can do to steepen the club’s angle of descent are as follows. Move my center of gravity points slightly ahead of the ball. Position my hands ahead of the ball. And finally, steepen the backswing a bit by picking the club up slightly with my hands.
Here is the skill: Move the center of gravity points (sternum, head and hips) a little to the left, position the hands ahead of the ball. Your weight should start, remain and finish on your target foot. When taking the club back slightly steepen the angle of the backswing with the hands while maintaining your center of gravity on the left or target side. On the way through maintain the hand angle, keep it firm. The upper and lower body move together. Maintain the hand angle as the left elbow folds slightly pulling in towards the left hip.
