I was a kid and teen when all these ads aired. Epic flashbacks! As an aside, when I was a kid, I thought the song 'Secret Agent Man' was saying "secret Asian man" I don't remember seeing the Golgo 13 commercial, but maybe it all makes sense now! Lol
i watched 7 out of 10 of those commercials growing up. Star Wars, Konami, Mike Tyson, Tetris, Game Genie, Super Mario 3 & Paper Boy! That Crystalis commercial looked awesome! Glade you had that as one of your picks as i never saw it before! Thanks for the fun memories!
Man, the Mike Tyson commercial was it for me. I remember wanting the game so bad but my parents never bought it for me. 🤷♂️😢 I had to play it through my friend and I was hooked! Another commercial that is very memorable for me, is the crazy lunatic Zelda wierdo guy. 🤣Zelda! Zelda! Zelldaaaaa!
I love how they barely put any effort in trying to make that spider in the swords and serpents commercial look even a little bit real by just wiggling it around like a kid would with a toy spider xD
This is an episode where it’s just nice to sit back and bask in the nostalgia. Hits you right in the heart. Though I’m getting to the age where I can’t really tell if I actually saw these commercials or just wish I had.
After beating Wizards and Warriors, I saw this commercial and knew immediately my next game purchase. I asked my mom if she would get it for me for an early Christmas gift. She went and borrowed money to get it for me that week. She's great!
Thank you for your service for the USA! Great list too! Wizards and Warriors was such a tougher game for me. I never beat it but the commercial is cool.
Man! You brought back memories! But the one commercial that really got to me was the one for Crystalis. Back in the days when it came out my young self thought it was a continuing Zelda game. Lol I was all confused thinking Link changed to different color clothing and why was the game made by SNK lol. Nonetheless, I was really hyped about it and I consider it one of the best RPGs for the NES.
That's just great. I haven't seen most of these commercials. So this was a real driven to the past and I sure miss the old school video game for hills not it's not the way it used to be that nothing is. And that's why you have this channel I know. I didn't want to be one of those funny daddy saying that used to be better in my day! But yet, here I am.
I remember the American ad for Legend of Zelda, where it showed game screenshots with some guy saying "Zelda?" over and over. I remember thinking "Wow! This game looks like Gauntlet!" Gauntlet being an arcade game I was addicted to back then.
Funny, i don't think we got the first half of these commercials here in Canada....i def remember the last half of them, though (especially the Mario and Punchout, they were on heavy repeat).
Ironsword is a great game with amazing music, but is extremely difficult. The first Wizards and Warriors game is the easiest, because you have unlimited continues, and you always start off right where you die. Even in boss fights.
The Waltz of the Sugarplum Fairies used to scare me as a kid. I saw a horror movie where dolls came to life and attacked people while it played. Which is why I never chose that music during my Tetris games. True story.
I like how the version of Ironsword in the commercials shows Kuros in his "acorn" helmet from the other games rather than the "cross"/"eyeballs" helmet they went with in the end.
Being that I was watching Sportscenter in a loop when I wasn't playing video games, I don't remember most of these. I'm sure ESPN showed Punchout as I remember that one. I also remember the Ironsword one, too. I loved that game, although the dungeon memorization factor kicks my butt now. Excellent fresh new idea for a video! That's why I love your channel. Because I do reminisce a time when life was just a little more simple.
if not for the commercial i saw for the SEGA Master System, i wouldnt have known about it until i was an adult, as i explored the game consoles i missed out on via emulation, but didnt discover that until my 20s. EDIT: pity that so many commercials have become lost media, i dont remember seeing commercials for NES games but i do remember Genesis, SNES and Gameboy commercials.
Have a look at the old Intellivision commercials. They are pretty fun. They usually compare gameplay with the Atari to show how much better the graphics were. And I can't forget Mr. Intellivision.
x Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt x Super Mario Bros. 2 x Super Mario Bros. 3 x Simon's Quest x Goonies II x Bases Loaded x Paper Boy Other than Skate or Die, every title of this list of all the NES games we had was on this video!
Castlevania 3: Dracula’s Curse had a commercial that has stuck with me ever since I saw it, which has gameplay footage, but also shows Trevor morphing into each of his comrades, much like he seems to in the game. For a long time, it wasn’t available on UA-cam, but that changed a couple of years ago.
Man I remember so many of these from Saturday morning cartoons... how does Mario 3 not finish first though... that commercial was total hype for 10yr old myself. I had Ironsword as a kid. I was able to beat it as a teen it's pretty solid with some good ideas. The fact you get unlimited continues (I think) makes it approachable and beatable. You should give it a go. I have not played W&W 1 & 3 though.
Wish I could go back and slap my young self silly for hitting pause instead of recording the commercials. I didn't understand what I was missing. Great Video Sir. Cheers
I always liked the commercial for Super Mario Bros. 2 mainly because of the music. It really starts to get going, then at the 27 second mark it suddenly winds down.
Ahh the star wars game was such a pain in my ass. I could never get pass the level were you have to destroy the tye fighters. When I finally beat it I ran around the house celebrating... I was 33😂
I'm surprised you like the Konami commercial in the 6th entry. That commercial has not aged well. I personally would've went with the Dragon Warrior 1 commercial.
I remember being conflicted about it - thinking it was both cool and lame at the same time. If it were any other game it would've just been lame, but Mario got a pass.
@@Fortefyre I also understand what the developers were trying to do with this convoluted password system, even though the logic was questionable. Since the game allows for 1 or 2 or 4 players at once, one could use their character(s) in different games. They could take their characters anywhere to play at their friend’s place if they had a copy of the game. Aside from that, I liked the game then and I still like it now. It’s Wizardry Lite, and I don’t mind. Even though they got the concept of armor class completely wrong. lol
Did anyone ever watch the actual Japanese animation shows of Golgo 13? I always wondered why they were largely in the NC 17 section of the video store, and when I watched them as an adult it makes sense. It's basically animated p0rn..
I think you're kind of missing the point of this channel, like....by a long shot. I don't claim to have nostalgia for the 80s, I'm literally saying I watched all of these commercials and these are the ones I find the best. It's not a foreign concept lmao.
The Acclaim double wireless controller was utter garbage if you had a television that used a wireless remote control. Both operated on the same wavelength. If I accidentally pointed the controller at the tv, it would change the channel and the volume. I can only imagine that the Acclaim controller that you talk about here does the same thing.
I was a kid and teen when all these ads aired. Epic flashbacks! As an aside, when I was a kid, I thought the song 'Secret Agent Man' was saying "secret Asian man" I don't remember seeing the Golgo 13 commercial, but maybe it all makes sense now! Lol
I ALSO THOUGHT IT DID LMFAO. I had to take a second listen lol.
i watched 7 out of 10 of those commercials growing up. Star Wars, Konami, Mike Tyson, Tetris, Game Genie, Super Mario 3 & Paper Boy!
That Crystalis commercial looked awesome! Glade you had that as one of your picks as i never saw it before! Thanks for the fun memories!
You bet! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Appreciate the nostalgia in this video, takes me right back to the time.
I'm glad you enjoyed the ride :)

Yeah that 3 am inner city circle k crackhead guy shouting P-p-p-PEA HATS
I love how they barely put any effort in trying to make that spider in the swords and serpents commercial look even a little bit real by just wiggling it around like a kid would with a toy spider xD
Haha work the budget I guess lmao
In the Ironsword commercial, I noticed that the kid is using that POS Acclaim wireless controller. Nice continuity.
Oh no...I own that one...damn....

That's epic! What a great memory!
I had forgotten the Mario and Tetris ones!
Thank you for your service also.
Thanks!
Great list, man. I remember the classic yet cringey Zelda commercial with the nerd that raps. All these clips bring back some great memories.
THE LEGEND OF ZELDA IS REALLY RAD, THOSE BADDIES FROM GANON ARE REALLY BAD, yeah, point-dexter and his goofy ass friend lol.
Thank you for your service for the USA! Great list too! Wizards and Warriors was such a tougher game for me. I never beat it but the commercial is cool.
Thanks! It was just a job at the end of the day lol.
That backflip with the controller while dodging the claw was sick dude haha nice controller commercial
Right?!?!

I could see that haha.
The SMB3 commercial gives me goosebumps every time, I also loved the Zelda commercial, lots of other people in the comments did as well.
Yeah Zelda is a good one, but I thought it was so eccentric that it's distracting lmfao.
Great Nostalgia. The Bases Loaded 2 footage at the beginning got me. I remember that commercial and begging my parents for that game. Good times.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
What a good concept for a video and your research and presentation were excellent. Well done.
Thank you! I appreciate it :)

Yeah I know what you're talking about lol. If you told me that guy had severe psychosis I would believe you! LMAO
Yeah - he also recited the names of a lot of the enemies, like "Leeverrrssss!!!"
Funny, i don't think we got the first half of these commercials here in Canada....i def remember the last half of them, though (especially the Mario and Punchout, they were on heavy repeat).
There were some unique ones in Canada and the UK, but most of them involved sponsorships through food items believe it or not lol.
Golgo 13 was definitely one of my favorite games on the NES. It made me feel like I was a secret agent back in my young days.
I'm dreadful at it lmao.
Ironsword is a great game with amazing music, but is extremely difficult. The first Wizards and Warriors game is the easiest, because you have unlimited continues, and you always start off right where you die. Even in boss fights.
Yeah, like almost everything hits you at any given time, it's insane lmfao.
The Waltz of the Sugarplum Fairies used to scare me as a kid. I saw a horror movie where dolls came to life and attacked people while it played. Which is why I never chose that music during my Tetris games. True story.
I tried playing Tetris with Music C the other day, and it didn't feel right lol.
I like how the version of Ironsword in the commercials shows Kuros in his "acorn" helmet from the other games rather than the "cross"/"eyeballs" helmet they went with in the end.
I didn't even notice that!
Golgo 13 is a total baddass series dude kills everyone like an even more ninja John Wick
I've always wanted to read it.

I remember the Dr. Mario one.
I also just now remembered one for Star Tropics.
Dr. Mario had a witch doctor one that is terrifying lmao.
Speaking of Golgo; Golgo 13: The Professional is one of the first anime ever to have CGI.
Interesting! I need to brush up on my anime.
A+ video!
LOVE IT! Awesome commmercials!
Thank you!
Wish I could go back and slap my young self silly for hitting pause instead of recording the commercials. I didn't understand what I was missing. Great Video Sir. Cheers
Thank you so much!
This was a great video. Brought me back to a simpler time. Thanks
I'm glad I could facilitate that :)
For some reason. I remember people saying the Super Mario Bros 3 commercial was creepy. I have a soft spot for the Simpsons NES commercials.
I guess it was kind of culty lmfao. I think the "you cannot defeat us" one was super creepy.
No video game collection is complete without the Game Genie...they were totally worth it back in the day.
I have one lmao.
I always liked the commercial for Super Mario Bros. 2 mainly because of the music. It really starts to get going, then at the 27 second mark it suddenly winds down.
Yeah the commercial is more serious than the game itself lmao.
I do love the P-40 plane footage for the Sky Shark ad. I’m kinda a nerd when it comes to WWI and WWII era planes
Same here to some capacity, not nearly as much as you likely are, but my entire youth was F-16 avionics maintenance lol.
@@Fortefyre the F-16 was a fantastic machine! Me though, my fave from that era has to be the F-4. That thing just looks badass
The F-4 was soooo cool.
I still love the John Kaiser "Zelda" commercial
Pea...Pea...Peahats!

Ah yes, the inner city 3 am Circle K crackhead Zelda commercial :P

Star Wars started off ROUGH on home consoles lol.
When I saw the Golgo 13 commercial, young me thought the song said “Secret ASIAN Man 🎶 “.
It checks out lmao
I liked the commercial for the OG Legend of Zelda
That crazy dude? LMAO
I'm surprised you like the Konami commercial in the 6th entry. That commercial has not aged well.
I personally would've went with the Dragon Warrior 1 commercial.
I didn't mind it that much. The Dragon Warrior one was a little bit too gimmicky for me, but I'm a goof anyway lol.
I only vaguely remember the mario 3 commercial.
It's a powerful one :)
I remember being conflicted about it - thinking it was both cool and lame at the same time. If it were any other game it would've just been lame, but Mario got a pass.

Thankfully.
Mercifully.

That movie The Wizard was the biggest video commercial.
Haha for multiple products. But I considered it more "product placement".
Punch-Out is a rhythm puzzle game masquerading as a sports games.
That's what I though.
This is the Star Tropics commercial: ua-cam.com/video/QW_bKv_QPNY/v-deo.html&ab_channel=buphelow
Oh yeah, I saw that one lol. The dancing trees is what I remember.

LMFAO well, that was the voice I was going for so, props for recognizing it.
@@Fortefyre spot on brother.
10:45 - "Rhythm Game"?? eh... i can see it, i mean it helps to have rhythm, since you cant rapid fire the attacks.
Yeah. I don't know some people even call Sekiro a rhythm game.
as a kid i really thought that nintendo paid millions of people to assemble in the country to make the mario face
As an adult I would still believe it lmfao.
