The whole point of the movie is that you shouldn’t judge based on looks. If he’s good looking at the end, that’s just hypocritical, like the ugly duckling. You’re only valuable because you’re pretty! That’s the implication, so I really appreciate that Adam’s human form wasn’t attractive.

I feel like Mulan does the "Girls are just as good as guys" trope really well. They don't preach about it, but instead shows a woman who care for her father so much that she wants to take his place in order for him not to endanger himself. She did what she did for a loved one rather than an agenda. I respect that very much.

Also Mulan wasn't good because she was a girl, she was good because she had the ability to think outside the box. She was the one who figured out how to use the weights to her advantage when climbing the poll, and she wiped out an entire army in one shot by just aiming the rocket at the mountain top to cause an avalanche.

Tangled is a solid 8 because I really like the vibe and Mandy Moore does a great job and it's a really thoughtful development of the Rapunzel mythos. Frozen is just so cookie-cutter and I don't know how it got so popular.

It had endearing protagonists, pretty animation, a hit song, and the first Disney ending where the heroine saved herself and I mean that it was literally her own action that reversed the freezing.

My sister said that one of the reasons Moana was good is because the main character is female and everyone is hawaiian. I asked why that should matter, and she said that no other disney films have done that. Lilo and Stitch never happened.
Spox, I'm pretty sure they're Samoan. The movie refers generally to the Polynesian islands for its base but the characters are Samoan (at least Mau'i is). I live in American Samoa, so watching this movie was a little different than other Disney movies.

They are a mixture of Polynesian cultures with aspects which all Polynesian cultures share, or they at least have no preference, eg. her ancestors sing in Samoan and Tokulean

Same. I f**king hate Zootopia. It tries so hard to do anti-racism and sexism and it just fails miserably. Judy is naive, Nick is unlikable, the detective plot is far-fetched and thin, the songs are annoying as hell. The best character is probably the fat leopard.

I don't get the appeal of Tangled... It's good, but left me pretty underwhelmed in the end. Flynn just feels too much like a generic Han Solo type, and Rapunzel's story gets a really anti-climactic ending (she finally realizes the truth about her family... by looking at a painting of a sun? Am I the only one who doesn't see the poetry there? Also, her reunion with her parents is not nearly as emotional as the movie wants it to be, because we barely even know them, and because it doesn't really fullfil Rapunzel's arc in any way.)
Gothel was a great villain, though.
Still, I'll take Frozen over it, any day.

The only real opinion I had a problem with was giving Hercules the same score as the goddamn travesty that is Home on the Range.

wisemage0 I'd personally argue against that one. Everything about Frozen bored me to tears. The pacing in the first half is far too quick, we aren't given enough time with the sisters to feel the weight of Elsa abandoning Anna or their fight in Elsa's castle, the second half drags its feet until the last 15 minutes, Hans as the villain makes no real sense; and the way it's sprung on us without any kind've foreshadowing felt cheep, the Trollrocks are absolutely nonsensical and the total lack of an explanation for their existence is infuriating (outside of Elsa's powers and their existence, Frozen seems to take place in our world. So why include magic beings without explaining them?), the book detailing their existence being brought up a grand total of once makes it feel like an uneeded mcguffin, and the film is overall visually boring (IMO). I'd honeslty put it right on par with Hercules in terms of quality, as Hercules suffered from a lot of the same issues, and felt like an overall hallow film where nothing in the story really mattered.

I genuinely believe that if those Gargoyles were less prominent, e.g almost not there, that film mightve won best picture.
I totally agree. However, without the gargoyles, it would definitely have been too dark for children, so I see where Disney was coming from.
We definitely need one of those "without" edits that cuts every scene with the gargoyles out.
I thought they were fine while movie kept their existence ambigious, like "it's all just in the Quasi's head because he had no friends and was alone through his entire life", but then in the end they bloody defend the cathedral and it's just... NOPE.
P.S. This is especially hurts because Disney already had an animated, dark and epic series about gargoyles. #XanatosIsTheBestDisneyVillain (Seriously, the guy has multiple tropes of villain badassitude named after him, he is that awesome)

As a kid, when I first watched hunchback, I hated it. I thought it was too scary, and I didn't understand the character's motivations. I felt like plot was too mish-mashed for some reason. (Turns out that the plot really was a mish-mash, a whole retcon of Victor Hugo's original book.) And the gargoyles were actually my favorite part as a kid.
Personally, I loved Aristocats. It's one of my favorites.

I really loved Wreck-It-Ralph not for it's story but because it showed that the film makers really understood and respected video game culture, which is basically unheard of in the industry. And having a few made up games for the main settings is brilliant as it makes the film not feel like an advertisement.
Too bad they ruined that in the sequel.
getting the video game culture was already hard enough, but trying to make a movie based on the internet is impossible, especially since it won't age well in like a year

Excuse me I grew up with "Home on the Range" and I'd like to ask how anyone could rate it low. What did you grow up with, "Shrek"?

If it makes you feel better, on his Patreon he did a somewhat longer review of these movies and he said that he’d probably give Fantasia a 7 or an 8 if you can find a version without the narrator spoiling everything. He also said that he didn’t remember why he gave Home on the Range a 6 and said that he should change it to a 5.
Fantasia was kinda boring to me. when i watched I just watched a bunch of random animation with songs in the background. I think's its cool to listen too, but not really good to watch. I respect that Walt wanted to be experimental, I just don't think it worked out very well. I honestly don't get why people love it so much.

I like it because I can just ignore the narrator and watch some legitimately stunning animation bring classical music to life without a single spoken word. That's really cool. If you don't like classical music, then you'll be bored out of your mind with this movie.

Personally, I think princess and the frog is one of the best Disney films, since they
1) approached Tiana's race actually pretty accurately for that time (1920's)
2) had genuinely likeable characters,
Tiana was hardworking and downright adorable,
Naveen is a cool, airheaded virtuoso, who slowly became less self-centred and he was actually really nice to Tiana after the first few scenes of them together, and his rich background actually helped build his personality quite well,
Ray was a great little addition, with his hopeless romanticism and belief in his Evangeline,
Louis because he was excitable, and an overall fun character to follow,
Mama Odie because, well she's Mama Odie
And Charlotte because she was actually genuinely nice to Tiana, they'd been best friends since forever despite social differences, and she's one of the only rich characters in Disney that isn't bratty and mean
I definitely agree. Also the setting was beautiful and all of the voodoo animation was super exciting and interesting.
Princess and the Frog is probably one of my favourite Disney movies ever. too bad a lot of people haven't seen it

Went and rewatched Pocahontas. It’s actually not that bad. One of the better love interest introductions imo, with all that nonverbal communication in the scene, and the songs are really great.

Snow White, one of the most important and greatest films of all time. It ushered in the very medium this list goes over, and convinced skeptics of the power of a full length animated film. It contains such beautiful music and art, although it's getting close to being 80 years old we still love it - 4/10.

Miles Greb I never really liked Snow White all that much. Her singing voice I found grating and as a character she didn't have any development. And while Bolt is by no means a masterpiece, it focuses on a character who's delusions of grandeur and lack of real world experience shaped his world view forcing the main character to not only change how he views the world and those around him but himself as an individual.
Bolt has more than _just_ a dog. It has a cat :v
But seriously, the way the movie portrays the story, it puts an entertaining take on the qulity of undying loyalty, which dogs tend to be notorious for.It dives into the topic of making amends with one's losses and beautifully and equally comedically portrays how a dog behaves the way it is taught and influenced to- in this case, a superhero who, even though he has no real superpowers in the end, that aforementioned aspect of undying loyalty made him a hero in the end nonetheless.
The issue with Snow White is that if it *hadn't* been A) the first feature length animated movie, and B) the first Disney movie, it wouldn't have left more than a footnote in the animation industry.
The animation ranges from barely passable to insanely dated even compared to other early Disney works, the audio is absolute garbage do to the period's recording hardware, with exception to Heigh-Ho every song is forgettable, the voice acting was barely passable, the story was uninspired, and none of the characters had character past a single trait.
you don't see people screaming about how utterly amazing pong is. just because it started something great doesn't mean it won't age.

How is Tangled underrated? It's a rather popular Disney film that was financially successful, critically acclaimed, and people are still talking about it. And for some reason, people always feel the need to mention it in the same sentence as Frozen. I feel like I'm in the minority, but I was really underwhelmed by Tangled. All this "Tangled is so much better than Frozen" crap is ridiculous.
I never hear anyone say Tangled is great where I live. Maybe it's more popular where you live?

The speech that John Silver gives Jim in Treasure Planet makes me cry EVERY TIME. I was 7 when I first watched it and now I'm 21 and it still gets me. It's really personal to me which is probably 50% of the reason why I like it, but it also has a good story and fun action scenes.

Sorry, but I disagree.. Tangled was far better than Frozen and it didn't need a hit song to be the better movie.
I'm not saying Frozen is a good movie, but Tangled is worse. I could care less about the songs, but even then they have to be in some consideration. Tangled has what going for it? Frozen at lease had a better story. Not good or even mediocre, but still better than Tangled. Also Big Hero 6 is the worst, as it tried too hard to appeal to the young audience.
