Some of the fanfictions I read have either mentally scared me, made me cringe, or almost made my eyes bleed. Then you find that one perfect one that actually has good effort and a good plot and IT HASN'T BEEN UPDATED SINCE 2011 AND THEY LEFT THE STORY AT THE CLIMAX SO YOU NEVER FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENES AND YOU WANT TO THROW THE COMPUTER OUT THE WINDOW.
Every time I read a cheesy scary story I can always hear "and YOU became skeleton AND WROTE THIS" echoing in the back of my mind. Talk about being nostalgic for the good old days, this video brings me waaaay back. I never did publish anything on Wattpad, but god the stories on there were really like that... now it seems like eons ago

You can add that account, use the docs on the extra acct to write the draft of your fic, and delete it from switch accts when you're done. You can also use that extra email to sign in and out of an extra ao3 acct.

I know right?? This sounds like a joke, but the BEST fanfiction I ever read was a "Jack the Giant Slayer" fanfiction. (The ship was Princess Isabelle x General Fallon.) Like, I'm dead serious...This fanfiction had perfect grammar, very descriptive wording, a lot of intense action scenes, and the main couple had excellent chemistry without having to rely on sex (they couldn't really have sex anyway, because Isabelle is a human and Fallon is a giant, but I digress). That fanfiction was so daggum good, I can easily say it was 10 times better than the movie it was based off of. But, it hasn't been updated since like, 2016, and the author has neither finished it, nor uploaded any other fanfictions since... :"(
Although the large majority of good fics end up on the dreaded perma-hiatus, there are some fantastic ones I read that were actually resolved. The Fallen by SylviaDragon (undertale, obviously) manages the impressive feat of both being very well written and actually finishing the goddamn fic. Without any (too) fucky shit to boot.
Yep, it's all mostly about "me and Jisung having hot sax". Back then when Wattpad was still new, there were very interesting fanfics about different movies, cartoons, series, etc. Loads of them were about exploring "what if the plot went this way" and were waaaaayyy better than what it's in Wattpad fanfiction today.
Lets not forget -OP OC's -Ridiculous Clothes(Stuff that they cant afford IRL) -Really Convoluted Twists that affect all characters -Retarted Plot Twists -People who haven't "watched the show" make stories about that show and all the characters are not acting how they would in the show(RWBY has the worst of this, as i'm told)

Even though I don't write any, I have always sucked at writing any letter, story or whatever the teachers made me write (specially on exams.. God, I used to get so nervous and effing sweaty palms, thank goodness that's done, even though I'm 30 I still remember that shit very vividly) ... And I get it, English is not my first language either! Ok? But there's just a maximum amount of bullshit that even fanfiction readers can take! Everytime I find one of those rare fanfictions that are incredibly good I always try and leave comments on each chapter to support the writer because I want them to feel encouraged to continue. If my positive comments can motivate the writer to keep going It makes me feel quite good, specially if that means the probability of them abandoning the fanfiction gets reduced. Don't forget to give support to these writers my people.

If you're into Danganronpa or Fire Emblem Three Houses, I suggest Blackened Skies and godspeed respectively. Just... don't go on the explicit stuff. It's smut galore in there.

I'm embarrassed because I had a FFN account (but lost the password and the computer I wrote on)....to my memory, there was a gritty slice of life Pokemon thing (with an older Ash and Brock as lovers, Jesse and James having children and out of the gang)...and a bit of terribly dark poetry (because edgy teens man). Apparently I had one reader wanting more, but I'm embarrassed as hell about it.
My biggest criticism of Fanfiction is; A) You cannot delete your account. You cannot. You simply can't. B) Lack of tools for formatting and fonts. I have the option to copy and past in stories from Word, but unless the specifics are perfect, I get a shit ton of code mucking everything up! C) I get to put pictures on my stories? Cool! I hate it. They're tiny and no one can see them. D) I wish I could -Strikethrough- words. It comes in handy when a character is writing something and makes a mistake. E) "You got a notification from FanFiction!" Yey! "Someone put a chapter up!" That was ME, you Idiot! F) Is for Friends who do stuff together.
Oh my god, the tiny pictures, the notifcations, the lack of strikethroughs... I feel all this in my soul. Especially the pictures. I paint my own cover illustrations- SURE WOULD BE NICE IF THE GOOD PEOPLE ON FFN COULD _SEE_ THEM! Then you have the opposite problem on AO3- the pictures are so huge the formatting of the entire page warps around it.
Man... The fanfiction world. So many grammar errors... So much sex... And apparently there's some kind of trend with characters getting into life-changing car accidents.

@Reidun Olsen Oh, ok. Honestly on dA, it's hit or miss like other places. Some are interesting, some not so much. Some are written well and some are hard to understand/read due to poor grammar and spacing.
Unironically there is A LOT of things that can be done in Wattpad. Really, you just need to make compelling backstories with your original cast of characters and you’re practically set, a cut above most the things you’d find out there. Took a while to realize that it’s not that high of a barrier to push through lol.
I've actually read a really good Vocaloid fanfic that was loosely based off one of the more popular songs. But I'm actually part of the fandom and it featured an infamous ship that a lot of people hate for no reason that I happen to like so I'm probably biased.
"My party only had six pokemon in it, there all unown. They spell out YOUR DEAD" This killed me... Wrong Your, Pokemon, and a team can only have 6 to begin with so "only" 6 is redundant as hell

The yaoi scene is so funny, because the author never actually described the setting of the dinner. To me, it's seems like their at a house eating dinner but since the wording of the introduction is off, they made into a diner. I find that to be hilarious.

If I'm doing like a Disney AU of something then my first chapter is most likely going to be a cast list but I don't expect any reviews so I get to writing the first chapter straight away and then update when I can
You can actually have both of those problems, anorexia is the problem where you don't eat it doesn't have to be a certain body type. Some people's bodies respond very differently to the skipping of meals. Some get boney and some save as much fat as they can and get bigger.

Mind you, i have nothing against gay pairing, but they are usually written by teenage girls who dont know a thing about relationships.

You can add that account, use the docs on the extra acct to write the draft of your fic, and delete it from switch accts when you're done. You can also use that extra email to sign in and out of an extra ao3 acct.

This sounds like a joke, but the BEST fanfiction I ever read was a "Jack the Giant Slayer" fanfiction. (The ship was Princess Isabelle x General Fallon.)
Like, I'm dead serious...This fanfiction had perfect grammar, very descriptive wording, a lot of intense action scenes, and the main couple had excellent chemistry without having to rely on sex (they couldn't really have sex anyway, because Isabelle is a human and Fallon is a giant, but I digress).
That fanfiction was so daggum good, I can easily say it was 10 times better than the movie it was based off of.
But, it hasn't been updated since like, 2016, and the author has neither finished it, nor uploaded any other fanfictions since... :"(
Although the large majority of good fics end up on the dreaded perma-hiatus, there are some fantastic ones I read that were actually resolved. The Fallen by SylviaDragon (undertale, obviously) manages the impressive feat of both being very well written and actually finishing the goddamn fic. Without any (too) fucky shit to boot.

Back then when Wattpad was still new, there were very interesting fanfics about different movies, cartoons, series, etc. Loads of them were about exploring "what if the plot went this way" and were waaaaayyy better than what it's in Wattpad fanfiction today.

If my positive comments can motivate the writer to keep going It makes me feel quite good, specially if that means the probability of them abandoning the fanfiction gets reduced. Quality writing requires creativity, author research and planning and a willingness to scrap sometimes quite large chunks of output that just don't work. Just sitting at keyboard and banging out a thousand words of whatever makes it through the hangover or whatever... doesn't

I'm embarrassed because I had a FFN account (but lost the password and the computer I wrote on)....to my memory, there was a gritty slice of life Pokemon thing (with an older Ash and Brock as lovers, Jesse and James having children and out of the gang)...and a bit of terribly dark poetry (because edgy teens man). Apparently I had one reader wanting more, but I'm embarrassed as hell about it.
As a fanfiction reader, I can confirm that this is, at least, 102% true.

My biggest criticism of Fanfiction is;
A) You cannot delete your account. You cannot. You simply can't.
B) Lack of tools for formatting and fonts. I have the option to copy and past in stories from Word, but unless the specifics are perfect, I get a shit ton of code mucking everything up!
C) I get to put pictures on my stories? Cool! I hate it. They're tiny and no one can see them.
D) I wish I could -Strikethrough- words. It comes in handy when a character is writing something and makes a mistake.
E) "You got a notification from FanFiction!" Yey! "Someone put a chapter up!" That was ME, you Idiot!
F) Is for Friends who do stuff together.
Oh my god, the tiny pictures, the notifcations, the lack of strikethroughs... I feel all this in my soul. Especially the pictures. I paint my own cover illustrations- SURE WOULD BE NICE IF THE GOOD PEOPLE ON FFN COULD _SEE_ THEM! Then you have the opposite problem on AO3- the pictures are so huge the formatting of the entire page warps around it.

One of many things that annoy me about fanfiction is that the ones that are actually decent are never finished.
Man... The fanfiction world. So many grammar errors... So much sex... And apparently there's some kind of trend with characters getting into life-changing car accidents.

@Reidun Olsen Oh, ok. Honestly on dA, it's hit or miss like other places. Some are interesting, some not so much. Some are written well and some are hard to understand/read due to poor grammar and spacing.

Unironically there is A LOT of things that can be done in Wattpad.
Really, you just need to make compelling backstories with your original cast of characters and you’re practically set, a cut above most the things you’d find out there.

I've actually read a really good Vocaloid fanfic that was loosely based off one of the more popular songs. But I'm actually part of the fandom and it featured an infamous ship that a lot of people hate for no reason that I happen to like so I'm probably biased.

The yaoi scene is so funny, because the author never actually described the setting of the dinner. To me, it's seems like their at a house eating dinner but since the wording of the introduction is off, they made into a diner. I find that to be hilarious.

If I'm doing like a Disney AU of something then my first chapter is most likely going to be a cast list but I don't expect any reviews so I get to writing the first chapter straight away and then update when I can

You can actually have both of those problems, anorexia is the problem where you don't eat it doesn't have to be a certain body type. Some people's bodies respond very differently to the skipping of meals. Some get boney and some save as much fat as they can and get bigger.

This is why I left Wattpad a few months back. I still keep my FFnet around bc there’s a lot of hidden gold on there, but now I mainly chill on Ao3.

If you wanna use ao3, you gotta use the filters tho because 90% of those are either fcked up or gay/bi (even tho the characters were supposed to be straight)

@Popsicle Jolt the fandom does matter, but not too much. For example, even with stuff like supernatural, rwby or harry potter, 90% of the stories are just about the characters suddenly being gay. Mind you, i have nothing against gay pairing, but they are usually written by teenage girls who dont know a thing about relationships.
