Travel Vlog 308
I explored the mountain town of Flagstaff, Arizona, with a thorough look at the amazing, pedestrian friendly downtown. Later, Nic & I went to the Grand Canyon National Park. Finally, we dined at a unique restaurant local to Flagstaff.
I Lived in Flagstaff and went to college there years ago and from your video it hasn't changed a great deal. I always loved the great hikes in the area and fishing in the mornings before class. I live in Canada now because I am a Canadian and it was nice seeing the place again.
There's been a lot of growth just outside of downtown. Downtown is crazy crowded in recent years, it's obvious he was filming in early morning before the swarms.
I think Flag was around 40,000 population when I went to school there. @@elchicharron9503
There’s been a lot of construction there the last three years and it’s still going.
I was getting homesick for some reason today. Then I saw this. My home town. I was thrilled to say the least. Planning on spending some time there this summer. This is great to see. We lived on Coconino Street in Grandfathers house. I got all moochie seeing downtown, San Francisco Street. The sign for Babbitt Brothers Sign. 😎Cool. Can't thank you enough for this.
My mom lives in Flagstaff, and is housekeeping manager at the Monte Vista hotel . Its definitely the coolest hotel in town.
Monte Vista is a fun place to stay
I stayed there at the beginning and end of my Arizona trip last year. Very nice place. The bar there seemed to be THE happening hot spot in town, and open late.
I was born in Flagstaff! Cold place in the winter!Beautiful town!❤❤
It's lovely to see you touring a town that isn't abandoned for a change! What a pretty place.
A great video ! Flagstaff is a beautiful town. The old church is gorgeous, and I love historic hotels, especially "haunted" ones ! The Grand Canyon is absolutely breathtaking ! Thank you so much, Joe and Nic, an awesome video as always !😊💖
Thank you, CL!!
I almost fell off my sofa watching you walking that ledge. Fantastic video. Im so happy to have seen both places and your wonderful video brought it all back Thank you both.
Thank you!!
I love how steady and slowily you pan the camera, the interesting commentary, editing and cohesion of your script...thank you Joe...can't wait for the next one😀
You can buy that house at 603 fountain street for a cool $850,000 ! It has 6 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and is about 2400 feet. It has been on the market for 696 days! (I wonder why!!)
It started at $995,000 on 6/15/2022 and has been discounted multiple times since then, but still no takers!
Seems a bit pricey, TBH.
Yes! Flag is extremely expensive city. They have experienced many leaving because of that.
"Frat house", I'm sure it needs a lot of TLC.
Party house!🎉
whatta dump for that kind of money. no thanks.
Thanks for this. Been seriously looking at a trip there. I like small-ish towns with a good downtown but with style and not full of giant high rises. Nice to see parts of a town that aren’t totally trashed, the parts where a tourist would spend some time.
Thank you. I grew up here and miss it, the scenery, and the culture.
We lived in Mountainaire in 80’s. Super nice. It has grown huge huge since then.
Attended NAU in 1979- 1980. I loved Flagstaff. Arizona had only blue skies in those days, unless it was raining or snowing.
In the mid 1970's I spent a few weeks at the Air Force's Fort Tuthill campsite, adjacent to the Fair Grounds a little South of Flagstaff. Really loved the place. Back then it seemed it was mostly college kids and cowboys around town, which I found sorta nice since I was 25 at the time. I do remember it didn't mess around with snow there and we received 14" overnight once. I always thought it would be a great place to retire but I ended up in Alabama which is a little friendlier financially.
Good morning Joe and Nic...I'm telling you,I have withdrawals waiting for a new video.. Loved this video and our plan is to visit here..I had no idea how cold it was there,I always thought Arizona was warm.. ! I held my breath watching you two walking that ledge.. Funny thing tho is you walking in front of Nic instead instead of behind her in case she slipped..Looking over those cliffs had my heart in my stomach..The church was gorgeous and I also hope they fix it up..The bill for your food,wowza.. That one drink was $45!! But what we always say, cut the bill in half as we always have leftovers..Safe travels to you both,Love and hugs..
Thank you for the great comment. Regarding the food, we gotta give you guys something interesting to watch! That's why we go to places like that. :)
Yay, you finally made it to our home town of Flagstaff! Looks like you enjoyed your visit. We certainly enjoyed the video, thank you for taking the time to film it and share it.
We loved it there.
I was there in 1984. its much more built up with food places now. most food servers then were college students. thanks for the memories. then Amtrak stopped there thats where we got on and off
Did the road trip from LV to Flagstaff then Kayenta and return. A notice in the hotel stated" Flagstaff is a railway town! There are no hotels from which you cannot hear the railroad" they got that right.
Loved the place. Love the vids.
Awesome, I like that!
I bought a few art pieces when I was there. Love Flagstaff.
Sleeping Giant Observation Tower
This is the best YT video I've seen with a good representation of Flagstaff. As a lifelong resident, I'm happy you enjoyed a bit of the city and it's history. Come back to visit. 😺
Thank you!
Hello from Sedona.
Bravo Flagstaff for light pollution acknowledgement. Should be law for everyone for right to connect to universe.
Very nice town. And Arizona has some beautiful scenery.
Wow! That train is moving! Where I live the trains are required to slow down, before passing through town.
$850,000
6 bd2 ba2,400 sqft Hope you & Nicole are having a wonderful time. Grand Canyon is so beautiful, but so scary though. My Saturday routine, wake up and watch Joe & Nicole. 💙💜
😮 wow, it just didn't look that big! I guess it's like the tardis "it's bigger on the inside" lol
Whew I think I would want more and better for that amount.
Also, the house is right off the University campus - literally an alley separates the house from campus. Will always have high rental demand. (40+ year Flagstaff resident)
What are the real estate taxes on a $850k house? The town doesn’t look prosperous.
House for sale has Greek lettering college fraternity sign. It is unlikely to be in very good condition.
Flagstaff looks beautiful, and the meals were stunning.
Very nice to see people walking around this is a fantastic place to live.
Hi Joe
Thank you for sharing this nice video. It's evening here and your video made it more enjoyable. Cool downtown. Nice video as usual.❤
Awesome!!
I’ve been watching your videos now for about a year. The videos always are interesting. Thanks for the education.
Thank you, John!!
Hey guys, I wanna say that I love the videos! I traveled a bit in my 20s and 30s but I've been locked down for a little over six years where I am now, but I do miss the road trips, and you guys bring that to my living room; so Thank You guys, sincerely! 😊
When you mentioned the train running through the middle of the town: we have a LOT of those situations in Northwest Indiana (I loved your Gary episode, btw - that's where I'm originally from) where I grew up. In fact, in Michigan City, Indiana, which isn't far from Gary - there's a street where there's a train track running right down the center of the road! It's pretty wild!
Thank you for the great comment!
Always look forward to another one of your trips. It was great as always!
Another beautiful video Joe. Great itinerary for this trip, the GRAN CANYON. Thanks !!!
A very interesting and beautiful video. The town was very nice but indeed expensive. The meal looked great but I cannot remember you ever spending so much on a tab. This may be your record high and only one hard drink. The Grand Canyon shots were vertigo inducing. I worked in the shipyard in Philly years ago and those heights are greater than a dry dock. Nicole is a daredevil, I'd be afraid of slipping as I noticed you were for her. Thanks for another Saturday morning video. Many of your viewers will never get to visit the Grand Canyon. With this video they just visited it. Mission accomplished!
Grand Canyon is about 1 mile from top to bottom. I get vertigo really bad, so this was (ahem) interesting.
Great history lesson on the town of Arizona and the Grand Canyon. Love the content that you provid. Thank you for inviting us on this journey with you. Continue to keep us informed about different locations around the world.
Flagstaff is always a good destination. There's something about the San Francisco Peaks
and trains that draw you in.
Fun fact: At Grand Canyon North Rim, you can see the San Francisco Peaks ( the other side from where Joe and Nic were)
Good food and beer in town, too!
beautiful town and nice place thanks for sharing joe and Nic 👍
Omg… could not believe that Nicole stood on that very high cliff !! Made me dizzy, I’m proud of her!
You and Nicole add so much flair to the show along with the travel tours with the shout to the resturants and food critiques towards the end ❤
I loved Flagstaff back in the 70's, that is, until I found out that they had 17 feet of snow in the winter time. Wonderful museum there. Been back many times on the way to GC.
Love the drive and up close and personal! Thank you!
You certainly know what good architecture is!
One of your best videos. As a traveling historian you tell the story of the places you visit with video and facts and figures. No need to get so close the edge - don’t become a statistic!
Wow, thank you!
I seriously nearly shat myself watching,I thought she was going to trip with those boots.
@@alexpanagiotidis1811For inexplicable reasons, many canyon visitors decide to tempt fate with improper shoes, and in this case with a balance distracting bag 🤔
You are absolutely right, why do people feel the need to do stuff like that, it not impressive to anyone
@@alexpanagiotidis1811 yes me too; i was very nervous
Thanks for sharing this video and showing how it's look like Arizona, famous town in the world
What a nice visit. We visited the Grand Canyon just last August...my first and likely only time. It's stunning, but after a while, you remember that you're just looking at a hole in the ground. HAHA.
You and Nic inspire us. We are now tentatively planning a road trip to drive Rte 66, and then drive Rte 50 on the way home....two of the most historic eat/west routes in the country, both predating the interstate system. Should be fun. It's all about the journey and the people we meet along the way.
That sounds awesome!! Be sure to check out some of the dying towns like Tucumcari. They're fascinating!
Great video! thanks for reviewing the food. It looked awesome!
Beautiful landschapes, and the diner and drinks ar good. A perfect day, thanks for charing.
The grand canyon is beautiful. I've never seen it personally. Thank you. However, Nicole scared me getting out on that rock!!😢
I was terrified watching Nic out there.😩 Nic are you brave or nuts? No harm intended. You just scared the crap out of me. ❤
One of my best memories of my time at NAU was the strong smell of pine in the air, especially in the morning. Not a Pine-Sol smell, but a sweet pine scent. Great memories of Flag.
In the Video the thing that impressed me the most was the Church. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for always showing your dinner tab. Looks great!
Great tour😍You’ve inspired me to take a trip to Flag from the opposite end of Arizona.
Great times, I have only been to Flaggstaff AZ once to visit an Uncle, but it was beautiful. Never been to the Grand Canyon maybe one day. Thanks for sharing and you have a great day and safe travels
Lovely video, hopefully I could visit Flagstaff soon again.
FANTASTIC!! ❤
Thank you for an awesome video!!
I so glad you visited my hometown ❤
One of my fav channels too. Watching those subscribers grow. Good for you Joe. I'll keep looking for new vids
Flagstaff is one of those beautiful western college towns: San Luis Obispo, Chico, Boulder, Santa Fe. Love it there, especially coming after the Mojave in the west or flat Colorado Plateau from the east. The pines and mountain air are such a relief.
The repartee of Joe and Nic at the edge of that part of The Grand Canyon was funny ! Typical of an old married couple . That Nicole was a real daredevil .
Right! And yes, she is.
@@JoeandNicsRoadTrip i said the same thing about Lord Spoda when he entered that huge formerly grand now abandoned church in downtown Detroit .
This trip brought back memories. When we lived in Tucson many years ago we stopped over in Flagstaff and spent the night before traveling on to the Grand Canyon. After 100d + days of the heat in Tucson, the snow and temps there were a welcome relief. Very quaint town. Thanks for sharing. Retired, we now live in Gold Beach, OR. Another quaint town and an area worth seeing.
That house was selling for $850,000. Oh my😮
Beautiful Town Thanks for sharing
Love this video. I lived in Flagstaff from 1989-2008, great place to do life. Lots of hiking❤. Now I am in Northern Idaho.
As always a plesent and entertaining video. Thanks to Nic and Joe. 😊. Though I am not a National of this country, but how I wish to live in a place like this, I hate to see this beautiful city get spoiled ever.
Just another awesome video!! Joe....you do a great job.
Thanks!
Thank you for the great memories and new information which passed me by since i stopped there in Flagstaff briefly in '93. Going from a factory visit in Phoenix to Grand Canyon. I stood exactly where you did and remarked, "It's big innit" to my colleague. 🇬🇧
Wow, I really liked this video. Very nostalgic for me. I went to college at NAU for a little while in the early 90's and then I worked for few months at the Grand Canyon south rim. Flagstaff has always been one of my favorite cities. I wanted to move there at one point in time, but it's kind of expensive to live there as you quite well explained. I hiked to the top of Humphries Peak twice when I was there. That was quite the trek. But the real exhausting trip was hiking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and then back. That was just about the most intense hiking trek I've ever taken, but well worth the hardship. Those were some good times back then.
This is a very well done video - interesting information about buildings, history, demographics and I enjoyed the walking pace. Thank you so much!
I can't believe how close you got to the edge! Great vid!
I’ve spent seven of the last summers in Flagstaff so obviously I love it. And being a college town it’s more enlightened than most of the state.
Gimme a break.
Good morning Joe and Nic, thanks for this video 🌞 but I must say ya'll had me nervous on those rocks 😬😂
Loved the views of the grand canyon. I can see why I've read of visitors falling while trying to take pictures. There's no fence there. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the trip.
Nice catch of that Santa Fe Warbonnet paint scheme on the train engine at 16:37! The station is beautiful too. Can't wait to visit Flagstaff one day! Northern Arizona looks so magical!
Flagstaff looks nice. I like the old photos contrasted with how the city looks today. Love a haunted hotel!! Gorgeous court house! Church of the Nativity is stunning! Very cool observatory. Gorgeous views of the Grand Canyon! Great camera work. Food at Restaurant looked great! Looking forward to more videos!!
Thank you, Alexandra!!
I returned from Phoenix on I-17 on Friday March, 15, 2024 and went through Flagstaff, Arizona and it was snowing very hard in some areas. It is amazing how much of a difference a couple days can make when the elevation is above 7,000 ft above sea level.
I was in flagstaff exactly once- and I had a great time! Gotta do that again. The observatory is super cool!
Beautiful architecture and murals.
Thanks again for another fantastic video Nic and Joe. Greetings from Australia.
I once drove from Flagstaff through a treacherous, blinding snowstorm (no big deal for me... I'm from NE Ohio) down to sunny 85-degree Phoenix/Mesa in just a few hours. Wildest change I've ever seen. This was in March... I was out there for to see some MLB Spring Training games.
Also, that shot of Nic at the rim was AWESOME. I have to say, the first time I saw the Grand Canyon, I was moved to tears. Also, also, love your architectural leanings. Cheers.
Thanks!!
Thanks for great video, I enjoyed your relaxed presentation
I hiked across the grand canyon in one day 2 years ago. It's cool to look at it in videos now and remembering pulling that off
Thoroughly enjoyed the tour.
Flagstaff is my favorite town in the whole country. In 1978 I was coming from Kingman Arizona into Flagstaff. I could see the mountains in front of me for a long time. I saw dark clouds moving in from the north and as they passed those mountains ahead, it turned them white. One of the most fascinating natural sites I’ve ever witnessed. Coming into town there was a small café on the left that was log construction. I wish I had the foresight back then to buy property there when it was affordable. I would live there now, but it is no longer affordable.
Hi, just found your site, we took a road trip last May/June and visited Flagstaff and The Grand Canyon amongst other places. This video bought back some special moments. Thank you. Simon ✌U.K. 🇬🇧
Yet another fascinating video.
Great episode. Thank You
The flagstaff courthouse is beautiful! The more you show of this town, I think I would like to live there. Oh, I'm from indiana!!
Been watching your videos for a little while now. Gotta say, they have a nice calm peaceful vibe which I love. Keep up the great work man.
Thanks!
Much enjoying. You make everything so interesting. Like your easy manner very much Thank you!
Thank you!
I love your videos. I am an avid traveller and watch many travel vloggers. I can almost imagine I am on the trips with you both. You are informative, easy going and down to earth and I just love being a passenger in the Jeep watching all the amazing scenery and architecture pass by. Love the end of the videos in restaurants. Can't wait to do my American road trip, thank you for posting your journeys !
Wow, thank you for the kind words! :)
I'm so glad your both doing the treck up there. I suffer vertigo, and I'm getting queezy just watching you both at the Grand canyon 😵💫
Love the videos the back streets of America
You continue to do such a great job, especially all the background information. I also appreciate your enthusiastic and upbeat personality. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much!
In 1968 I backpacked the Kaibab Trail to the floor of the Grand Canyon, spent one night outside The Phantom Ranch and came up the
Bright Angel Trail as the return route.
Doesn't look like it's change much since then:)
On a partly cloudy /sunny day, the light and shadows playing across it are something I've never forgotten.
NIc,
I'm originally from the Jersey Shore and have spent a lot of time in Eastern,Pa and you tell Joe that Tioga State Forest has the
Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania:), so there!
Cheers,
Rik Spector
Thanks, Rik!
Thanks for sharing this Flagstaff adventure. Those Grand Canyon trails look very dangerous!
Request to Nichole, "Please don't give that dare devil shot again." I wish both of your safe travels everywhere.
Spent many a summer in the 60's in 'Flag' long before the super highway. The college was primarily education and forestry. Nearby is a ski slope, slide rock, not far the Grand Canyon, and many other places to play at.
This is one of the most breathtaking adventures yet! Flagstaff is extraordinary! The architecture is fabulous. There wasn't a single thing I didn't enjoy. You the last video you did, if combined with this adventure were combined it would make a great documentary. I haven't been to Arizona and the Grand Canyon in 48 years. It's so cool to see it done in this format. I can't tell you how grateful I am for you and Nicole and your amazing channel. I'm older now and disabled and can no longer travel like I did so many years ago. Thank you for bringing all of your adventures to my television. It beats the hell out of the crap they show these days. God bless you both and may he keep you safe and healthy as you continue your adventures. You ARE my favorite UA-cam channel by far! Thank you. 🤠👍🏻❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wow, thank you!!
The largest county is San Bernardino County in California. My son attended NAU starting back in 2014 and it’s a great school in a great city! Love getting The Joe and Nicole videos on a Saturday morning! Looks like your trip is off to a great start and I look forward to the next video!,,,,
Lovely city! Congrats on your channel from Spain!
This is a really good episode. I especially liked the conversation between you and Nickol at the top of the Grand Canyon. You did a great job of communicating the He-bee Gee-bee factor out there on edge of the canyon.😨😲
Thank you!
I was getting nervous watching you walk that trail. 😬 Fantastic work on this video.
Always love your video's but loved the Grand Canyon , never seen it like this Thanks
Thanks 👍
Thank you for another very informative video!
